NARS Ecume Nail Lacquer
NARS Ecume Nail Lacquer

NARS Summer 2011: Ecume Nail Lacquer

NARS Ecume Nail Lacquer ($17.00 for 0.5 fl. oz.) is described as an “opaque white.” The description is dead-on–this is a pure snow white polish that’s opaque in three coats. It’s streaky with just one, and to even it all out, I felt a full three were needed. It dries to a semi-glossy finish, though the swatches are with a top coat (Zoya Armor). I typically get a week of wear with NARS’ polish, and despite NARS’ formula being on the thicker side, this one seemed normal and not thick at all.

The Glossover

I can see this being a color you'll either love or hate, because it is startlingly white and bright at that. It's not surprising that it is streaky with just one coat, as whites often are, and it does have really opaque, even coverage after three coats.

  1. I’m not in need of white. Plus $17 dollars for something so non-unique? Pass.

I find it funny that in the USA (and probably other countries too) white nail polish is a normal wearable color. Here in Brazil, we normally use it for the white tips of french manicures. There`s pretty much no other use for this color of nailpolish. I particularly don`t like it. When I want a whithe kind of color I use something that is between clear and white.

  3. Nicole

Ooo, I really like it. It would look great at the beach with a white bathing suit or white sundress.

  4. AnGeLwInGz

I have a $5 one from Orly that works just as well.

  5. Good to know China Glaze White Out is a good dupe.. I already have that color so I know I’m not missing out! NARS does great polish in terms of wear and longevity, but it’s the unique colors I like.

  6. I own Revlon White on White and OPI Alpine Snow. Would you believe I have owned OPI AS for over 2 years and I have never worn it? 😮

  7. This is a nice clean white, but I’m looking for a one-coater white. Any suggestions?

  8. Omg terrible I hate matte colors on nails ^^

  9. nez

Oh wow, it’s blindingly white! Kinda cool…

  10. Lara

It’s nice but not glossy enough for me.

  11. Ester

I love that look. I think I’m going to try and find the China Glaze dupe. 😀

  12. Laura

I’ll stick with Sally Hansen White On for $3, white cream seems too dupable to spend that much.

  13. Holy crap that’s a WHITE white!

  14. Rachael

Didnt MAC have a color like this a few years ago?

    • Tekoa

Yes they did! The one I’m thinking of is Vestral White. Ecume is interesting but I doubt I’ll get it. I have OPI Alpine Snow if I’m ever in a HOLY THAT’S WHITE mood.

Thats what I thought. I am not buying it, I was just wondering. I dont like the look of white all over the nails. I think its meant for a french to have on the tips. I did buy the MAC one a few years ago b/c it was in style… but I think I wore it 2 times. What a waste of money (my bad… haha).

  15. Gina

    Oooh, very pretty!

  16. Queentut

Now this is a great nailcolor. It’s clean, neutral, screams “SUMMER” and how gorgeous would this be against medium to dark skin or a bronze goddess faux tan? Awesome!

  17. I see the slightest tinge of gray to it (perhaps my phone’s screen).

  18. Good for konading, maybe?

  19. Suzy

LOL at the name…Just read between those ‘E’s. Is that really what anyone wants on their nails?
