Aqua Eyes, I Love Thee!
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes ($17.00 for 0.04 oz.) is one of my favorite eyeliners–pigmented, long-wearing, waterproof, and just all around fantastic liners. I love the color range, and I have kind of gotten into a rather “collect ‘em all” mentality. You can read my very first review of Aqua Eyes (includes #5L, 7L, 10L, 12L, 15L, 17L, and 20L) as well as my single reviews of #3L, #4L, #9L, and #16L, too.
- #1L is a deep dark black (despite appearing brown in the swatch–what is it with black eyeliner turning brown when photographed?) with a soft sheen.
- #6L is a dark plummy purple with slight red undertones and soft sheen.
- #8L is a bright, metallic silver–on the lighter, brighter side.
- #11L is a medium-dark violet purple with soft violet sheen. New favorite purple liner!
- #23L is a shimmering golden champagne with a nearly metallic finish.
(What am I missing? Hmm… #0L, 2L, 14L, 18L, 19L, 21L, 22L, 24L… 13L is on its way… wow, that’s more missing than I thought. BOO!)

RECOMMENDATION: Aqua Eyes wears so well throughout the day without fading, smudging, or migrating. They’re one of my go-tos for eyeliners, and I love how pigmented and diverse the shade range is.

could 23l be a dupe for macs i get no kick?
6 and 23 are so pretty, but I rarely use light color liners and I already have a purple eyeliner! Boo! Also I don't like that they aren't as soft as the Milani ones!
The longer I stare at 6 I just want it more and more! It'd look pretty sexy as an everyday water/lower lash line color!
I love how they last all day but they are a bit stiff to use? I just find they are not as easy to use as UD ones. Do you find the same Christine?
Yeah -- they're not as soft/creamy as the UD ones, but they seem to last a little longer, so I've always attributed it to that difference. I don't find them hard/sharp or anything, but they're just not as soft as UD.
I always wanted to try makeup forever aqua pencils just never got around to purchase any, but on my list to buy
...sob!...SOB!... Can't get either MUFE or Urban Decay in NZ... no perfect purple eyeliners for CeeBee! Waaah! Seriously, #6L and #11L are GORGEOUS. I've been looking for a beautiful blue violet like that for ages... oh well, at least I know it actually exists, even if I can't get at it... :-(
:( I'm surprised MUFE isn't there, if only because they seem to have stronger international distribution than UD.
Ok, this is my inner art geek coming out, but... If a black eyeliner is photographing brown, it just means it's a warm black (often found as "bone black" if you were buying it as paint at an art store). Warm blacks are heavier on the yellow tones, which can make them appear more brownish at time. Cool black has more blue tones in it ("mars black" at the art store). If either color is diluted, either by adding white, or in this case, a camera flash, they just show more of their undertones.
Thanks, Joli, LOL! I always wondered, you know. 'Cause I sit there, taking twenty photos going, 'WHY ARE YOU TURNING BROW YOU BIG JERK' so it's good to know that it can do that and it's not really me going crazy.
im glad im not the only one who get that collect em all mentality. i swear everytime i go to sephora i need to pick one up
Thanks for the swatches, Christine! My skin tends to get a bit oily as the day goes on, do you think I would need to use something to set these eyeliners so they won't migrate?
Hey Debra, I know some people have found that these don't stay on well, but the majority seems to be that they do. IF you have serious issues with liners migrating, you may want to check out Benefit's She-Laq! :)
How would you compare the texture of these to UD 24/7 liners? I can't stand the texture of my UD Zero. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too soft.
They're not as soft as UD - which is actually why I prefer UD just a SMIDGEN more than MUFE, but they're basically equal to me.
I have the 23L. it's looks great on waterline, but the problem is the color not stay on my waterline that well.
I lovve the 23L , I think they will do amazing job highlighting the inner corner of the eyes, Ive been looking for such a beautiful color :D
I luv'em too! Numbers 20L, 2L, and 24L are my summer picks: respectively, forest green; pearly brown, and light taupe. They look great with bronzes.
I love 23L, I bought it a couple of weeks ago and it looks great on the waterline or as a base for a neutral look!
I love these liners so much! For the other Canucks on here, they're cheaper than UD 24/7 liners as well. $19 CAD. The UD ones are $21 in Canada. I guess it's cheaper to import from France than it is from the US. *shrugs*
Hi Christine! I wanna try these eyeliners, but do you know if they are usable on the lower inner lashline (Is that called the waterline)? Thanks in advance! :)
I'm loving 6L AND 23L. It will be nice to line under and around the corner of my eye with the 23L instead of shadow.
This post just makes me even happier that I got the collectors set. I knew after I bought my first liner from them I'd have that "gotta get them all" mentality too.
I added 23L to my MUFE list. I've been trying to go softy with eye looks this summer and I think this liner will help do the trick.
Omg #23L looks perfect to highlight the inner corner of the eyes or even as a subtle waterline color :) So gorgeous! You should do a look using that color!
For me, they last just about the same - Aqua Eyes just a little better - but we're talking 17 vs 18 hour wear really... and even at 18th hour on both, it's not a noticeable difference unless you're REALLY looking for one.
