Posted in: By MAC Cosmetics, MAC Cosmetics, Spring 2008

M·A·C Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation (Loose) | A lightweight loose powder foundation that utilizes the power of minerals to provide the skin with a smooth, radiant, natural finish. Brushes on the skin for sophisticated, medium-buildable coverage. Special mineral complex helps keep skin healthy and nourished while the blend of moisturizers and conditioners in the formula help create a smooth, flawless application. Provides essential everyday SPF 15 sun protection.

Launched at Nordstrom’s and Nordstrom.com yesterday.  We won’t see this in freestanding MAC stores until later this spring (April, I believe!).

I’ll be checking it out this morning (in about an hour!) when I go for Heatherette swatches! ;)

wearing this as my foundation this morning. i like the coverage; it evened out my skin tone. feels like i’m not wearing anything. see how it works throught the day. looking at the packaging, wish they just made it the size of the normal loose powders; not sure i like the container the powder comes in.

I just got back from Nordstrom with my Heatherette haul and tried this loose mineral powder. I have tried other mineral powders and have never been happy with them (Bare Escentuals, Pur Minerals, etc.) because I never got the coverage, the color was not right, and I didn’t see any difference in my face after trying them. I’m so happy to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the MAC edition. I can’t believe how amazing my skin looks and the coverage I get! Everything I’ve heard about mineral makeup finally comes true for me! I’m definitely going to buy this in a couple of weeks (gotta give my wallet a break from Heatherette) :)

Hey Shefali! I’m so happy to hear such a glowing review on it - it makes me SO eager to see how it works for me (soon enough - just have to get my bum in the shower, lol!).

Christine

i would love to try this- however the ingredients include both bismuth and carmine (colour from beetles)… so this is definitely a no go for me :(

Thanks for the tip, Naomi! Guess I’ll stick with my Larenim :)

Christine

Hey Naomi! Oh no, how terrible :( I wonder how they can use color from beetles, does that not count towards animal cruelty? Odd to me!

It’s actually in lots and lots of red, pink and purple products. In ingredients lists it is Crimson Lake, Cochineal, Natural Red 4, C.I. 75470 or E120. It’s also in a lot of colored foods. There are non-bug-derived red pigments too, but carmine is really popular and actually has been used by native populations for thousands of years.

Urban Decay is great because on their website, they flag the vegan products, so you know those don’t have carmine.

Christine

Wow, I had NO idea that it was listed under all those names! Geez, Natural Red 4 really doesn’t make me think of bugs. I’m not vegan/vegetarian, so I’m fine with it personally, but what an effort it must be to ensure products are vegan!

Can’t wait for your review tomorrow. I’m all about good mineral foundation as long as it doesn’t end up chalky, but that application has me kinda iffy.

Christine

Friday, March 21, 2008

I know what you mean :( I’ve thus far HATED all the applicators that come with mineral makeup, and even the MA gave me the heads up that a brush does it better even.

Thursday, March 20, 2008

Ew, yeah, the beetles thing grosses me out too. Guinness beer has fish byproducts in it too! Creepy.

Christine

Friday, March 21, 2008

Wow! I didn’t even know beer would contain fish ANYTHING.

On the subject of the mineral, however, I did try it on my hand and it made the individual little scales disappear! I was impressed, but I haven’t tried it on my blue undereyes yet.

Christine

Friday, March 21, 2008

Oh, that does sound impressive. As soon as I’m done replying to comments, I must get my butt into the shower so I can have a clean face to try this on!

i don’t feel like getting these right now cause it’s still cold and dry and i need all the moisture that moisturizers and foundations give me. good thing they’re permanent in mac stores coz i’ll need them when it gets hot and humid. nice to know the coverage is good. wondering about the finish though, is it matte or satin?

Christine

Friday, March 21, 2008

I don’t think it’s a matte finish, maybe semi-matte?

I sampled this yesterday and it was a no go for me. I have t-zone oil and they said it’s not for oily skin. It’s has some oil (jojoba I think )and reflective mica in it which adds to the shine. She did mention that using a brush was better.

Christine

Monday, March 31, 2008

It does have silicone-wrapped mica or something, so it can give some reflective shine. It’s too bad it didn’t work out for you!

OMG! I bought this and it is seriously the best foundation I Have tried. I’ve tried a bunch of other mineral makeup and it always itches. But this……well this is amazing! :) I have and are very prone to acne and have very oily skin and it works perfect. =)

Christine

Monday, March 31, 2008

That’s awesome… I am so happy to hear that it works well for you :)

WOW WOW WOW!!!! I’ve tried bare minerals and everything in between for mineral makeup and this is the B O M B!!!!!!! Great coverage, yet NOT heavy–doesn’t feel like you have anything on and it stays allllllllllllll day!!!! Even in humid climate! :) I was using MAC Studio Fix NC30, but LOVE LOVE LOVE this new product. I actually went to get a refill of the NC 3 Studio Fix, but saw this stuff on the stand and WOW! I NEVER ask for advice and am one of those people who’s not very good with change etc…. especially if something has been working for me for a long time. lol Well, this is the best by far. Then of course, Studio Fix NC30! LOL

I also purchased MAC FIX + to use with the mineral makeup and it makes the skin sooooooooo pretty and dewy looking. So natural so soft.

Thumbs Up For MAC!

Forgot to mention, I spritz sparingly and evenly MAC FIX + and then apply Mineralize SPF 15 Loose Powder. I use the sponge by the way. But am thinking of tinkering with my Kabuki brush! :)

Don’t you think it’s a little late..cause L’oreal came out first..Wonder which is better.

Christine

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Mineral makeup has been out for awhile now, so L’Oreal wasn’t first…

Monday, April 28, 2008

Oh yes, I meant the powder kind, the one that L’oreal came out with a small brush. I’ve not tried with L’oreal though. Just curious which gives perfect finish. However, L’oreal brush is stiff but Mac’s seems soft.
