Cle de Peau Leonardis (R3) Extra Rich Lipstick

Going Luxe: Cle de Peau Leonardis (R3) Extra Rich Lipstick

Cle de Peau Leonardis (R3) Extra Rich Lipstick ($60.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft pinked coral with subtle gold micro-shimmer. The color applies opaque in a single pass with a smooth, even finish. Extra Rich Lipsticks are absolutely a luxury item; they are head to toe decadence. The texture is incredibly smooth and creamy without being slippery or heavy. It imparts a nice level of moisture on lips and never feels drying. The formula also de-emphasizes lip lines after about fifteen minutes of wear. I get between four and six hours of wear.

Is this a color you would wear — if money were no object, of course?

  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 5/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: The faceted lipstick tube with its corners and edges makes it easire to get crisp, defined lines when applying, and the formula itself is fantastic. Just enough glide to apply beautifully without sliding off. Cle de Peau is a luxury brand, and the price ultimately reflects that, but I am pleased to note that it contains 0.14 oz., which is slightly more than the average lipstick. Worth it? It is more about whether it’s a color you’ll love, wear often, and feel good about every time you wear it.

Product & Review FAQ

Where can I purchase Leonardis? How much is it?

Saks, $60.

Is it limited edition?

Any dupes?

The closest dupes would be Laura Mercier's Tangerine (pinker) or MAC Crosswires (lighter, slightly pinker). The formula of Cle de Peau does give lips a fuller, plumper look without actually plumping them (by filling in lines and reflecting light, instead), which isn't in every lipstick.

  1. I would definitely wear that color but not at $60…I’m going to have to pass on this one.

    • Ani_BEE

      >_< I had a similar reaction … It would only be worth it if it was the ONLY lipstick shade I bought for the year.

    • Julia

Totally agreed. I am such a make-up junkie and especially love lipsticks and glosses but $60 is beyond outrageous. SKIPPING this one…

  2. Maeve

    This lipstick is lovely.

  3. Audrey H.

It looks & sounds lovely. At that price I’ll just be looking lol Thanks for the review.

So, there’s this little Japanese mall near me. It’s mostly a food court, with some small counter service restaurants, a bakery, and a big sushi restaurant (their Japanese grocery sadly closed). But they also have a beauty store that sells two brands: Shiseido and Cle de Peau.

I didn’t know there was Cle de Peau available anywhere near me! I just discovered this last week. I never thought I’d buy it because I don’t buy stuff I can’t play with in person, and you know, the prices. But MAN…now I am so tempted. It is a ten minute WALK from me.

This is really my kind of color, too, of course. I didn’t spend too much time at the store when I discovered it, because as I was about to buy a Shiseido cream shadow I realized my credit card was missing and freaked out (found it at home happily!). But I have every intention of going back and swatching the crap out of these lipsticks. I may just have to save up for this one.`

    • Definitely check ’em out! Cle de Peau’s concealer is also supposed to be amazing (haven’t tried it myself). Love their #2 lipgloss! I also love their Extra Silky Lipsticks, but they give you sooo little in them (they feel AMAZING!).

    • omg do you mean J-Town? Sorry if it’s not, but sounds exactly like that.

That colour looks absolutely gorgeous, but I’d never, never lay out $60 USD for a lipstick. It doesn’t matter how awesome or unique the shade is. It’s so posh it’s square and cut like a gem and embossed! Very luxe.

Only thing I really indulge in (wish I’d thought to comment on a previous post that asked this) is Dr. Hauschka floral deodorant. $27 CAD. Because made of good ingredients, smells awesome, and works.

I don’t actually remember what the store is called! But it’s the Boston area and the whole plaza/building is called the Porter Exchange.

  5. Amber

That is truly gorgeous – I would love to try it, but I have no Saks near me. Either way it is too much for my wallet! Thanks for the swatches Christine!

  6. Whoa…$60 for a Lippie!! I still work at my same old place..:(
As much as I wanted to hit the LOVE IT button, the Price tag made me hit the LEAVE IT one…Its a pretty color though, no doubt.

  7. $60 for a lipstick? It’s definitely “extra rich” alright…with that price tag!

No matter how much I like a colour, I’d never buy a luxury lipstick like this. It’s fun to see it from afar – nice swatches!

  8. ShockingBlue

How do you pronounce “Cle de Peau”?

  9. Arantzazu

The colour is fantastic, really. But the price is ridiculous… I won’t pay $60 for a lipstick… Not till I become rich! Hahaha

  10. I think it’s a lovely color but it wouldn’t look good on me.

$60 is past my limit for one lipstick I’m afraid, even if it has a bit more product. Tom Ford ($45) is my *absolute* limit for lipstick, and I haven’t even bought any of them yet since I like so many of the colors and can’t decide which 1 or 2 to get. *sigh*

  11. Hannah

The color is pretty, but OMG, the price is very very scary. I can’t believe anyone would pay that much for a lipstick. Does it do wonders on the lips? Wow, this is the most expensive lipstick I’ve seen.

  12. kathleen

such a beautiful lipstick, but 60$ each?! never!

  13. I always look forward to your Cle de Peau posts, but at the same time, I always regret having looked at them. lol I love CdP products, but they are just so pricey. They embody a luxury brand for me. I love their stuff.

  14. Melanie

    Pretty color.

  15. gorgeous shade! i would wear this!

  16. Polly

This shade looks so beautiful on you <3

Why do all CdP lipsticks have to be EXTRAORDINARY pretty cool!? Their shades? Flattering. Their texture? Amazing. Their price? Oh…well

I have a bad feeling that I will collect most of all shades they offer…

I've just grabbed 2 CdP lippie in the last 2 weeks and I can't afford anymore of them this month. I'm BROKE!

But still I got some on my wish list. They are T1 or T3, T5, and R3(this shade is just added, lol) and some more in Extra Silky line; 105, 109, and 119.

Luckily, my dad never allow me to have a credit card, or else I would be bankrupt!

  17. Lucie

Those lipsticks are sooooo beautiful, I think I’ll be picking up the red one pretty soon. Lipstick is the one luxery object I splurge on because I know I’ll wear lipstick even if I don’t wear any other kind of make up…it’s really nice sometimes to still be a HS student and living with my mum but have a job-lots of disposable income. In a couple years I won’t be able to afford something like this!

  18. AnGeLwInGz

It’s a pretty color but I’d rather pick up 2 Rouge Allures for the same price!

  19. vanetta stanford

$60.00….. YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!

  20. cloudburst

    Very pretty. Tempted!

  21. Nadia

Pretty colour but I really don’t think any lipstick is worth $60. Foundation? Absolutely worth paying for quality because good skin can make all the difference when it comes to makeup application and appearance but lipstick? Nah.

  22. Dana

Looks nice, but not at 60$ …. If money was no option then I would try it !

  23. Really pretty. Is it me or is it similar to Mac Blow Dry? You should live in that one, Christine.

  25. Brianna

It is soo beautiful! But it’s out of my budget. I might pick up Crosswires or Tangerine instead.

  26. Oh boy, $60 for a lipstick, I almost had a heart attack !! Though it’s a gorgeous color, I am not sure I could ever justify spending that much on a lipstick, wish I could afford it though :)
Seeing the picture, I would have thought the edges made it feel weird on the lips at first. But at the same time, you are right, must make crisp lines easier, would make sense haha.

  27. morena123

$60??? How much higher are they going to go, for the price of a lipstick?
I bet as muchas people are willing to pay, huh.
DId u buy that one cristine or was it sent from PR?? Do you get paid to review makeup????

    • Please read the disclosure, as it is always there if I did not purchase it myself and have something to disclose. I do not do paid reviews — they are against my editorial policy.

  28. Jennifer

Christine that is absolutely gorgeous swatched, and even prettier on you! Thanks for sharing this!

  29. Heather

Oh it’s darker than I thought from the initial picture

  30. karen

I like the color but the price is way too high. I understand this is a luxury brand, but my price limit is Chanel for lipsticks.

  31. Miss Silver

Looks gorgeous on you! Wish I could afford it. And I love the idea of a multi-faceted lipstick!

  32. shilpa

    its lovely……….

  33. Sarah

Oh man oh man… If I had a budget that would allow me to spend this much on a lipstick, this one looks like it would definitely be worth it! I can’t let myself EVER see this in person, or my budget is in big trouble! Absolutely beautiful product and shade. Thanks for reviewing this and letting me live vicariously through you!

  34. virginiaisforluvrs

I love this but I think it would lean more red on me (and the suggested dupes didn’t work for me). Do you have Chicago Peach? I’m wondering how they might compare, if at all. Thanks!

  35. I hate the color in the tube, but love it in the swatches…but I’ll pass, way too expensive.

  36. Perri

ack $60…. I was going to say I want this but with that price I’ll save my money and get some MAC lipsticks.

  37. Bunnyr

Porter square? Haven’t been there in a few years I now live in Natick. Love cdp!
