Chanel Stupendous Eyeshadow Quad

Chanel SoHo Story: Stupendous

Chanel Stupendous Eyeshadow Quad ($56.00 for 0.24 oz.) is new and limited edition for Chanel’s SoHo Story Collection, which celebrated the grand reopening of SoHo Boutique. It contains for shimmering shades: a pink champagne, plum-tinged gray-brown, burgundy brown, and icy blue with silver sheen. This is one of the more pigmented Chanel quads I’ve crome across where every shade looked as rich and pigmented wet as it did dry. (Typically, products always look more intense when used wet.)

All four shades seemed rather cool-toned to me, and after using everything together, the entire collection is definitely on the cooler side of the spectrum. Though if you’re warmed, it’s still a very wearable set of products. It leans cool but it’s not so cool where I’d be leery, but just because a product leans the opposite of your skin tone doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t wear it. It’s all a matter of what you pair it with! For instance, try doing one cool area (either lips, cheeks, or eyes) and pairing with two warmer areas (whichever two you didn’t use a cool product on!).

I posted this look earlier in the week. Though I wasn’t sure the blue was going to work paired with the other quad colors, it worked out in the end. I do think it veers on being overly frosty/shimmering, though. As a way to highlight the inner tearduct, I like it, but those wary of ultra frosty products, this might be one of those danger! kind of shades.

Stupendous is consistent with Chanel’s quads–soft, buttery consistency that feels like silk and blends easily. The formula is such that the powder binds well to the lid, even without a primer (though, don’t expect it to last 18 hours if you have oilier lids!), though I’d never wear eyeshadow without a good base! (That’s beauty blasphemy!!) Some readers compared this quad to Mystic Eyes, but going by the only swatches I have posted (I don’t own it), they’re not too similar.

  • Product: 28/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: I think cool-toned beauties will find this just works beautifully. For warmer skin tones, it’s not a must-have, but paired with a peach blush, I think it’d be lovely.

  1. I like the shades, but I think I can easily find other colors in my collection to match these.

  2. I really want this. Christine do you know if it’ll be available in the UK at all? Thanks.

After seeing your swatches, I see the differences between this and the Mystic Eyes quad. In the promo video and pictures, the quads looked like they’re of the same family but your pictures made the differences so much clearer. Thank God for Temptalia! :) I’m still glad though I didn’t make the investment because these look rather frosty (and I saw that you mentioned that.) so I know that they’re going to get even less use for me that Mystic Eyes. If they had replaced that icy blue color with ANY matte shade (ok, maybe not matte green or orange), I might actually be tempted :)

This is GORGEOUS and I’m cool-toned, but I just dont know if I could hand over that much $…

The look you did with it was absolutely stunning and made me fall in love with the quad!

I did a look inspired by your one yesterday using the light side of nars cleo (pale blue green) and hustle from the UD naked palette. Not the exact same but similarish!

  6. Christine! Are you going to do a review of Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss??? I’ve been waiting for it!!!

I agree – this to me doesn’t look very similar to Mystic Eyes at all. I purchased the quad but haven’t used it yet…I don’t want to run out or make it look messy. I love the icy blue color, I don’t have anything like it.

It looks like mystic eyes to me which was a disappointment bc it’s to sheer on me (I have to keep applying) and I had fallout out. It’s such a waste bc it’s a bday present and I had high hopes. Do you know if others had the same complaint about mystic eyes?

    • I don’t remember – it was quite awhile ago, I don’t own Mystic eyes, sorry! I’m not really sure how they’re similar in colors though (based on seeing swatches of Mystic Eyes).

OMG Stupendous indeed! excellent swatches Christine – I have been dying to see some since this collection debuted – thank you so much!

  12. I was trying to replicate the look you did with this myself with existing products, and I found that the frosty blue and the darkest plum were actually remarkably similar to my favorite Nars pallet, Habenera! The frosty blue-ish is a touch more seafoam in the Nars pallet, and the dark plum is more grey-toned, but I can totally see how this works! Because Habenera is the best combo!!

As for the other colors, when the Chanel pallet is viewed without the blue, doesn’t it slightly remind you of the Palace Pedigreed pallet?

  13. wow the pigmentation on this is pretty excellent

That shadow actually looks perfect for a neutral eye. How funny, just as I was reading this I got email from The Bay about their Chanel cosmetics (specifically the Rouge Allure lipglosses) and inviting me to make an appointment for a lip makeover.

it seems like most chanel quads that come out are just some variation of Mystic Eyes basically… which is okay since they’re always wearable and they know their customer, but not the kind of thing you need to collect. this is pretty though.

  16. great neutral palette!

  17. Christy

Could you list dupes of the colors in this quad?
    Thank you.
