Butter London: McQueen, Vena Cava, & Victorian All-in-One!
For fall, Butter London gives us four new shades of their 3-Free Lacquers ($14.00 for 0.4 fl. oz.): All Hail McQueen,
Bumster, Marrow (mixed for Vena Cava), and Victoriana (reminiscent of the Victorian era). The first two were inspired by the late Alexander McQueen.
- All Hail McQueen is a medium beige brown with pale nude shimmer. I needed two coats for a really opaque, even finish.
- Bumster is a creamy mustard yellow. One coat was almost enough, but two coats made it perfect.
- Marrow is a muted grape purple that’s been grayed out–it’s not the vibrant shade you’d think of with the term “grape purple” but it’s so fitting. It has very subtle icy silver-white shimmer. Just two coats, though one was rather pigmented.
- Victoriana is a toned down aqua-teal with soft silver and aqua shimmer. Two coats for even, opaque color.
Butter London’s formula was on the thicker side, but it was very easy to apply and never felt goopy. It spread out easily to give nearly full-color coverage in a single stroke, though I found two coats were the perfect number for all four shades. I’d say that All Hail McQueen was the sheerer shade, but I still managed to do just two on it and get nice results. Bumster is a rather unique shade, and it’s one of those “ugly” shades that some will find pretty, and others, well… think it’s ugly.
I like the bottles, which have a removable black cap that reveals the actual cap with the brush attached to it (so it’s not as awkward in the hand as a rectangular handle!). They’re very space-saving for me, as they line up so well together!

- Product: 29/30
- Value: 8/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: These are a nice way to wear more muted, darker shades without being incredibly vampy. Bumster seems the most unique to me, even if it may not work well on all skin tones.

I love "All Hail McQueen". Do you know if it is limited edition? Because I'm doing Project 10 Pan, and I don't think I will be done with it anytime soon and I just want to know that "All Hail McQueen" will still be around when I can buy makeup again!
Do you know why Butter London changed the names of "All Hail McQueen" and "Bumster?" They have been changed to "All Hail the Queen" and "Bum."
they still have the old stickers though, so maybe they ran into some legal issues? either way, if you order one it will come with the new all hail the queen sticker, if you peel it back, you will see the original sticker with the original name on the bottom. :)
I have "All Hail The Queen," which is GORGEOUS but when I peeled back the sticker, it still read "All Hail The Queen" minus the barcode. Also have "Victoriana," which is really beautiful. Can't wait to get "Bumster" and "Marrow." "Come to Bed Red" is awesome on toes! Love Butter London polish - lots of fun with the names and colors are great! No biggie - color is still LUSH!
wow, these are pretty but i think a good dupe for All Hail McQueen is OPI's DS Classic, which i am able to get for only $6.95 on transdesign! what do you think, Christine?
All Hail McQueen IS SO PRETTY!!! I love all of these though!! OMG!! :) Butter is a cute name too btw.
Alexander McQueen is my favorite designer in the entire world...I feel so obligated to get these...not to mention they are all gorgeous!
I loved and still love Alexander McQueen so of course I have to get Bumster and All Hail McQueen :) Oh and Christine is the Chanel Soho collection going to be sold at all chanel counters or just in soho? haha
oooh , absolutely loving London Bumster - bright yellowy mustard... All Hail mcqueen is pretty too- im actually just enjoying the names so much
I believe they're on drugstore.com which ships to Canada. Not sure if they have the new colors yet, but I do have Butter polishes from that site shipped to me in Ottawa.
I have yet to see a Butter London polish in person, but I'm dying to. This collection is wonderful looking! I am especially enamored with Mcqueen and Bumster (the w/flash picture did it for me lol). Love the design of the bottle too. Thank you for the great review!
I love Marrow, All Hail McQueen and Victoriana! And such a great price. I never go through nail polishes though. :/ I don't know if I need anymore. Are these sold in stores? I've never seen Butter anywhere except online.
I have and love All Hail McQueen. I thing it's beautiful. I really like the look of Marrow and Victoriana too.
Not at all - Paradoxal is a different color entirely: http://www.temptalia.com/chanel-paradoxal-nail-lacquer-review-photos-swatches
I don´t know about those...they all look similar to colors I already have...even Bumster I don't know that I would get them even if I could
I don't have any big brands, because they're hard to find here but I have at least a really dark purple from Zara that looks like the purple in there, and also a blue glittery one from Maybelline that is probably a bluer version of the green-ish one...and I also have a yellow from this brand called Andreia that might be just a tad brighter than Bumster
on an afterthought...All Hail McQueen is probably the only one I don't have anything particularly similar too...though I have a matte version of it I think
yeah...some just chip faster...I really love the Sephora ones and the ones from Claire's specially for the color range and finishes
are you talking about maybelline's bolt of blue? that is definitely really similar, just more blue instead of green. :)
