Bright Makeup: The Violet Glow
Another look just for fun
Thought we could start the week with something ultra bright!
You will need the following…
- Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Digit Eyeshadow (iridescent light purple), Make Up For Ever #75 Eyeshadow (bright pink), MAC Atlantic Blue Eyeshadow (dark blue-violet), MAC Stars ‘n Rockets Eyeshadow (fuchsia-purple duochrome), MAC Hush Eyeshadow (pinky highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (blue), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
- Cheeks: Le Metier de Beaute Romeo & Juliet Blushing Bronzed Duet (cool baby pink)
- Lips: MAC Viva Glam Gaga Lipstick (cool pink), MAC Luminary Lustreglass (sheer iridescent white-purple)
- Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes:
For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Digit eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend #75 eyeshadow on the outer two-thirds of the lid with the 239. Pat Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on the middle third of the lid, overlapping Digit and #75. Next, apply Atlantic Blue eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Digit eyeshadow with the crease shade and then highlight the brow bone with Hush eyeshadow. Bring everything together by applying Deviant liner on the lower lash line, then pat Digit eyeshadow beneath the liner and Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on top of the liner. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Fresh blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Viva Glam Gaga lipstick first, and then layer Luminary lustreglass for a complementing lip.

I did this look today and I received soooo many compliments! I loved it so much that I plan on wearing it again tomorrow to work!! :)
I wish you had a video tutorial for this look. I love it so much and appreciate the detailed step by step instructions but looks like this I just am more a visual learning. Thank you anyways for the idea! I really love it. :)
I love this look!! I had the MAC MUA recreate this look for me when I went to the Lady Gaga concert!!!! I had sooooooo many compliments. :-)
Simply gorgeous. And super bold, which is right up my alley! I think this is my favorite look of yours!
Christine, this look is so beautiful. I really love the color combination and the way you did your eyes. I honestly think this is one of the BEST "color" looks you've ever done! The colors just look amazing on you. Oh and btw I was reading about the "black liner" issue others mentioned and I remember you mentioned before that it irritates your eyes. Is it ONLY black or is it other colors too since I too noticed you always used colored liner (like on your lower lashline) but never black. That's really too bad though. =( It's like me and how most powder bronzes seem to irritate my skin. No idea why..
Thanks, Kali! :) Nope, it's any color. I really don't think it's so much a product-related issue but that touching that area just causes it to flare up. Normally, just applying eyeshadow, I don't really get into the lash line, but with liner, you do have to push in and work much more in/on the lash line, which is what I think causes it to kind of itch and water.
The eyes are great but I think a hot pink color would bring this look to another level. Say for instance that Illamasqua Intense lipgloss in Petulant.
This look is STUNNING. I'd run home and try it if I had that bright a pink shadow. Guess I'll just have to get one! ;) I just love Viva Glam Gaga and I need to get me a backup while I still can!
i too was wondering why you choose not to use black liner in these looks. that really sucks that it causes that kind of reaction for you, because imho i think it would really give these looks some oomph. which liners cause this reaction for you, if you dont mind me asking? i wonder what component of the liner causes this; do you have any idea? i hope the eye tenderness gets better soon, i know that hurts; what a pain!
All eyeliners - liquid, powder, gel, cream, whatever. I think it is more of sensitivity to ANYTHING touching the lash line like that. I've always had very sensitive eyes - I carry a bottle of itch relief eye drops everywhere I go. I probably have one in every room. Maybe I'm used to it, but I don't think it takes away from the looks myself :)
It has always been interesting to me - wonder why application of shadow doesn't cause the problem (but thank god it doesn't, eh?) I don't think it takes away from the looks at all though! I find upper liner to be a bit difficult to apply precisely and only do it occasionally myself and I think bold looks are awesome with or without it.
I think it's that it's the brush or the liner pen or whatever on the lash line, you know? It's right in there, between the lashes, vs. eyeshadow, I'm not pushing into the lash line :)
Makes sense! Well, just want to say that I appreciate that you do looks that show upper liner despite it being a bother - you do lots of nice stuff like that for your readers :) Just hope you don't feel obligated to do it too much!
Lovely Christine! The eyeshadow colors remind me of exotic orchids :) I steered clear of VG Gaga thinking that it would be too cool for my skin tone, but I see that you can pull it off beautifully..
Thank you so much, LuvJ! :D Yes, you can definitely rock it -- try any warmer pink or even coral gloss on top!
love these colors! i know it's just a personal choice, but may i ask why you don't like to line your eyes with black in these looks? just curious :)
It causes a reaction on my upper lash line, so it itches and sometimes causes swelling/rashes on my eyelids, but in the short-term, the itching/burning causes my lash line to water and the makeup to turn to garbage. I really can't do it very often - I did it two days in a row (maybe for 15-20 minutes each time), and my eyes are still a little tender.
oh no! that's awful! so it's only black that does it, regardless of formula or brand? that actually happened to me for the first time last night when i went to use a stila smudge pot on my waterline, which i had used in other colors with no problem, and my eyes started getting really itchy and watery, and this morning they were really puffy. so sad, i feel like the product is a waste now :(
