YSL Gloss Pur Black Coming October 2008!

Boy was I frustrated when I didn’t get in on the pre-order for this gloss when it was available online. It’s sold out already online. It’s not even out yet! There is a very, very small YSL counter at my Nordstrom’s, but I’m thinkin’ they won’t get this in stock. I really want this. Something about having a black lipgloss appeals to me, in a very hands-off kind of way. I know Lancome also has a black gloss for fall, which I am lusting after, too – I think it may be more accessible, too.

What say you? Black lipgloss — are you game?

YSL GLOSS PUR Black unites these two facets of his art in a superb Limited Edition. Transparent yet intense, it plays on the depths of black and the pure shine of a sparkle-free formula in a special offering. From plum to ebony, it dresses lips in an infinite range of shades, depending on how it is applied – feather light or rich and bold.

Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Pur Black… Coming early October 2008, only while supplies last! $28.00, available at YSL counters at select Saks, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Barneys stores nationwide, as well as Bergdorf Goodman and Henri Bendel in New York City and key YSL boutiques country-wide.

I don’t know about black gloss for me…a bit too goth for my NC15 complexion I think 🙂

I did have one idea for you though…there is a mineral company called Fyrinnae (I have some of their shadows, and I LOVE them), and they have come out with a new line of lip glosses, including a black one. The price is great too, only $2.50 for 3.5 ml, I believe. It is flat black, like the YSL one…I have not tried the lip lustres myself, but I have read many positive reviews, so it may be worth a try 🙂

I know this has nothing to do with this post, but I had to say a huge THANK YOU, Christine! I haven’t commented before but I’ve been reading here for a few months now and you inspired me to try a black and silver smokey eye (my first… I’m a total beginner with makeup – plus usually I stick to browns, as I got scared off black when I was 15 and had no clue how to use it) and it worked!

So many, many thanks!

I know that people are getting into this “trendy” dark lip look but I really think it is going to fade fast. Then, I’ll end up going “Now why did I spend $30-$40 on this?” I really don’t think I would be in the mood for this except in a really dark atmosphere and what’s the point in that? The darkest I will go is Jampacked lipglass by MAC, forget about the mattenes. I’ll sheer out the lipglass when I wear it though. I don’t even do black nail polish. It just does not look good on me. I feel like I look sick or something. Some people can really pull off that, but black lips-no way for me! I don’t really think this is worth it. Black honey by Clinique I will do, but not a completely black lip gloss. I tried on those mattenes and I look scary and depressing. I’d rather brighten my face than look kind of whorish!

lizzii Avatar

i think the same thing Lil. like really. besides, i’m not one for trends in makeup. i wear what i want and i wear it because i like it. you see some girls wearing it because it’s “sooooo high fashion” blah to high fashion, especially when it comes to looking dead. and keeping up with trends is pointless because they change so often not to mention it gets rather expensive. i’ll pass on any dark lipstick. give me pink! ^_^

Christine would you rock the black gloss with more confidence than Bing and Jampacked? You seem much more comfortable with the deep dark reds than purples/blacks.

Ohh could you try bing with comet blue? Since Comet Blue has purple flecks in it too, it might be a nice combination.

Macaddict Avatar

Totally got to have it!
I think that on top of red or even pink lipstick, it would add some depth! 🙂
I do wear Blak Honey from Clinique and the bluish-black nail polishes from Chanel and Mac already.

There’s only going to be 500 sets of the red lipstick/black gloss from Lancome. Eep! I’ll be working with MAC’s black lipmix combined with clear lipglass. I couldn’t justify the price tag for YSL’s gloss.

Shayla Avatar

the black lipgloss intrigues me, cause i’ve always found the goth look pretty cool (when done well…..not jr high-ishly)

it’d come in handy for halloween…but if that’s all i’d use it for (which it probably will be), i’d stick with cheaper lipstick/gloss.

Jelisha Avatar

I’ll never wear it but I want !
Just to look at it and to play when I don’t have to leave the house.
Why oh why does it have to be limited ed. – women would s t i l l buy. Right?

Bonnie Avatar

I’d probably buy a black gloss (I like the idea of a patent-leather look on the lips). I have an eggplant-purple, almost-black lipgloss that I like, but is very hard to wear and keep neat.

claudine Avatar

ok we have a huge YSL Counter here so i will definately check it out in Person hehe
but i wont buy it since i would never wear it. But it definately is so pretty to look at :o)

Nepenthe Avatar

I haven’t seen any promo images showing it on lips, but I get the impression that this will wear more sheer (kind of like Lancome) than it seems in the packaging. Black is such a great way to add depth, as most have seen with a black base under eyeshadow – but I’m intrigued to see how it works as the finishing layer. I don’t think I’d rush out to buy YSL – but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out.

I think the dark lips is a great way for people to show their creativity, and make different products that might be out of their comfort zone work for them. The flexibility of makeup is half the fun because in my opinion, the same thing day after day gets boring!

Marie Avatar

If ANYONE can make black lip gloss look decent, it has to be YOU, so if you manage to get your hands on a tube, please post a photo of yourself wearing it. 🙂

But, for me, I will not be buying this. It’s too Goth for me and the only time I would seriously use this is if I am going to a costume party as a goul or a vampire. I really can’t imagine this looking good on anyone but like I said, all your face-of-the-days are lovely so I am curious to see how you make it work. 🙂

I had a black gloss years ago from Wet n’ Wild, and I loved how it looked on my lips. Granted, I was in 8th grade, but it was a very sheer wash of black over my lips. With that in mind, I’m guessing it’s going to be a very shiny gloss (think patent leather) that will layer really well over lipsticks to tone them down. The thing that could get iffy would be if it added too many grey tones.

I have a black gloss from Sephora & one from Smashbox (black on one end, white on the other. They look killer over red & pruple lipstick! YSL is massively over priced, but despite this I still want it.

Cordelia Avatar

I’m pretty excited about all the dark lips this fall, and I will be rocking the black lip gloss as much as possible! I already picked up Bing, and I’ll be looking for a good sheer black gloss that doesn’t cost $40. I figure all the knockoffs will arrive momentarily.

Once again the MU lines will get your $$.
I have worked for many of them and they know how to get ya!
Enjoy it all, ladies.
Whatever floats your boat.

Saks 5th Avenue NYC Still has some in stores… it cost about 24 dollars and no, the Lancome won’t be cheaper (as it oosts about 50 dollars in a set only, with a red lipstick that’s limited edition too) and there are only 500 lancome sets to be available to the US…
Can tell for having one of the YSL Gloss Pur that it is AWESOME, you can decide how dark you want the result to be, it tastes great and does not yellow teeth (my teeth are far from being white and it looks GREAT!)
