Will you buy a beauty product just because the packaging is awesome?
Will you buy a beauty product just because the packaging is awesome? Even if the product inside is so-so or even bad?
If it’s a so-so product or worse, then no, definitely not.

I am definitely guilty of this. However, if the packaging makes me happy, I am less irritated about a lesser quality product, LOL! I guess it evens out 😀
In general, If the product is a 6/10, the packaging might be what convinces me to buy it (especially if I’m considering between several products), but if something is completely average and I would never have even considered purchasing it, the packaging may get me to glance at it and swatch it, but probably not purchase it.
My one exception was probably the Venomous Villains collection; I am a complete Disney nut, and while I don’t regret my purchases (I limited my picks to things that I’d be able to use, and didn’t buy the colors I thought were ugly!), there are definitely things I would not have considered had they been in the normal MAC packaging.
im a sucker for for cute packaging, and a collector so id say yes!
Nope.
no, definitely not!
I most certainly will. I have a separate stash of items that are purely collectibles for me. These are items I bought because they are cute or packaged cute, with no intention of ever using.
I definitely do that too! I have some e/s from Guerlain and the quality is crap but the packaging is soooo beautifull that i couldn’t resist :o)
Never!
If the quality is 5/10 or above, and not too expensive. I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging.
Yes. I bought the Dior Night Diamond shimmer powder pretty much just for the beautiful black, crystal studded compact. The product itself is fine, but yeah, i bought it for the compact. I also have an Estee Lauder pressed powder compact that again, I bought for the compact design more than the translucent powder (which is awesome btw).
Yes, but only one time ;), for “les météorites” de Guerlain !!!!
I bought Mac to the beach highlighting powder because of it’s package. I used it 4 times and hated it
I am definetly a sucker for cute packaging…and have made a lot of bad purchases due to the fancy package. I guess that’s how the makeup company makes money…whoever’s on the marketing team..they def. know woman pretty well…just kill them with irresistable cute bottles, fancy pattern-embossed eye shadows, and blinged out lip gloss and lip stick wands. Take Jill Stuart makeup in Japan for example…because of the cute packaging it generated a ton of hype in asia..so of course..the curious little me…decided to splurge on a couple of items…and it turned out the product is nothing but average…sigh…it’s such a mental torchure sometimes.
ask me after i buy one of the wonder woman quads 😛 lol
Seems like this question has already been asked?
No, I will only go for good products. But I think cute packaging is a nice extra.
I totally agree.
no never, all my make up is in a drawer and i never get any out to just stare at the packaging, and im not one to get a compact out in public to touch up so the packaging is never a deciding point on whether i buy make up or not.
Sometimes- depends on the price of the product and how likely I am to use it. Case in point being the Bobbi Brown Powerful palette- love the case, but not for $130 (Australian price) and when I wouldn’t use half the palette.
Yes… I’ve totally bought products just for the packaging alone, but so far I’ve been pleasantly surprised that the items I choose usually end up being of quite nice quality. For example – Shu Uemura’s Golden Snow highlighter that came out of their holiday 2009 collab with Tsumori Chisato. I would have bought it even if the highlighter was crappy, but happily it’s one of my favorites.
No, never ;- ) The result on the skin is the most important for me.
YES. Many Japanese brands release gorgeous packaging but the product is very mediocre… cough Jill Stuart!
Definitely not. Its the product itself that counts. I never got the fascination with product packaging – I prefer them sturdy, not cutesy looking.
If the quality is really that bad! I wont !
No, not really. However, if I have to choose between 2 good products, the packaging will influence my choice.
I might be more drawn to a product because of it’s packaging but if I really don’t like the quality I wont get it. For example, I LOVE the tokidoki packing but not to impressed with the product
Just because the packaging is pretty?? Hell no. If it’s a good product, then the cute packaging is a bonus but if the product sucks there is no way I’ll buy it even if I ADORE the packaging.
Depending on the product and price. It has some packages that are so beautiful to collect items and only!
I’ll never buy something purely for the packaging, but it might tip the scales a little bit if I can’t decide, or it might be something I would never have noticed if the packaging hadn’t called out.
Never just for the packaging it would be a waste!
nope. absolutely not. but i am likely to NOT purchase a product because i think the packaging is hideous.
Not at all just becuase the outside is cute it doesnt mean the inside is worth the price tag.
Never for extra luxe/fancy looking packaging. I bought one of the Revlon ColorBurst lipsticks because of the lattice-designed bullet 😉
I’ll only cave if it’s superdupercuuuute xP
Nope – I’m more of a beauty “on the inside” kinda girl when it comes to that stuff. Pretty packaging/palettes always look prettier inside of my ever-growing makeup monstrosity of a collection – but I’m all about functionality, so if it doesn’t work for me, it’s gone. (that being said, I’ve had the same Victoria’s secret perfume sampler box in my bathroom for 5 years, just because it’s a pretty place to hide the air freshner on top of the tank of the toilet. it was bought for that purpose, and it’s traveled to 3 different apartments with me. but i’m pretty sure that’s not what we’re talking about…LOL)
Nope, it has to be a good product. I hate when it seems like you’re just paying for the packaging.
I have done this before, but if I find out the product inside is terrible I will return it.
I’m a sucker for packaging so if the product is dupeable, but of useable quality, I’ll pay full price for it. Pretty makeup makes me happy. ^_^
Generally no, unless I can reuse the packaging in some way I’m really excited about and can’t find a substitute.
yes, good example is all the mac collections that come in special packaging.
I don’t even want to look at the products for the “Wonder Woman” collection because of the look =(
No. If it’s a bad product I’ll return it if possible. The only exception may be perfume – even if I don’t like the scent anymore, I like to display the bottle still!
Yes I totally would, when MAC came out witht the Liberty of London collection I totally bought for the packaging, but was pleasantly surprised with the products. (ie beauty powder in shell pearl).
Cute packaging makes me happy inside, however, I wouldn’t buy a product the product itself was bad. Quality of Product > Packaging
I’m guilty of buying themed MAC beauty powders I know will not show up on me just to get the compact to swap out blot powders with. *shrugs*
No; it´s the product that counts and I like to wear the makeup I buy. The pretty packaging in some MAC collections is sure cute, but I really do not buy more due to the different packaging. I am equally happy with “regular” packaging, as long as the product is great!
I think ive done it twice for the BOS Alice n Wonderland & NY BOS i couldnt pass those two eventhough i knew most colors were the same. So yes I was a sucker 😛
I don’t think I would, because I can’t justify wasting money of the cosmetic budget on a product I just don’t love, even if the package was really awesome (unless it was really inexpensive like $2).
🙂
Not usually. I’ll oooh and aaaah over the packaging, but hold back if I don’t think I’ll use it.
Never, UNLESS the product was cheap enough and I could reuse it after somehow by putting something else in it.
Absolutely… especially mascaras!!! If the packaging is cute, there I am buying it.
Never.
