When you’re trying out a new brand, do you try their bestsellers first? What do you try out first?

It’s definitely a bestseller or perhaps a really buzzed about new product that gets me!

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Same as Christine, a best seller or a really buzzed about new producf. Only exception was Suggarpill, their very 1st product i purchased were their cat false lashes, even though their eyeshadows are what everyone is talking about.

I haven’t branched out too much, from MAC, I went to NARS, MUFE, Benefit, GOSH and Chanel.

I want to say that bestsellers get to me, but most of the time I test out a brand by going for their most buzzed Eye products first! (the only exception has been NARS for their Orgasm blush)

Not usually, I love palette/value sets to try out first in case something is not compatible with me. When I first tried Nars instead of purchasing their famous Orgasm blush, I opted for the Everlasting Love 15th Anniversary Palette which contained Orgasm along with the South Beach Multiple, 4 eyeshadows, and 4 lip glosses. I found the Orgasm blush to be too pink for me so I opted to buy the full size Deep Throat blush instead and I’m very pleased 🙂

For sure.
If there is a bestseller, there must be a reason for it! Although I have to say that some brands are a bit like the Kardashian sisters. I just don’t get the hype and the products are disappointing at best.

I do, because I wanted to know what the hype is all about. There are many bestseller products that I find to be outstanding (Guerlain Bronzer, Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler etc) and others just make me say “huh?” (NARS Orgasm, MUFE HD)

Yes, normally I choose one of their most buzzed ones. Once I like a brand, I usually stick to it so, trying out new brands is kinda hard for me. To minimize the risk, I try to choose something that is supposedly very goos 🙂

Not most of the time. I try out things that get good reviews but a lot of bestseller items from brands in terms of blushes or lipsticks are shades that are not flattering on fair skin tones.

That being said the first product I fully tried from NARS was orgasm blush, but I wasn’t impressed.

I’m the same way. I look for the bestsellers or products I’ve read about in blogs that got very good reviews. I also like to look for products that catch my eye be it the packaging or it claims to do something I’ve been looking for. I’ll browse the aisles and what’s available testing and swatching as I go. You should see my arm when I’m at Ulta or Sephora. LOL

Yes, that’s what I usually do. For example, the first stila purchase was kitten. It also has to get rave reviews though, which would omit things like midnight cowboy from UD. My first UD purchase was the UDDP and the ammo palette(which has sin in it) My first NARS purchase I think would be a blush.

A bestseller will draw me in, unless a little internet research shows me it’s overrated! It depends how much the product costs, too. I definitely get drawn into buzz, as well!

Not really. I’ve had many misses that were bestsellers. For example, NARS Orgasm – I hated it. Or YSL Touche Eclat – I know it’s meant to be subtle but it did nothing for me. I try not to fall into ‘hype’ anymore because I do not want to be disappointed or angry that it doesn’t work for me but it works for everyone else, LOL!

I will sometimes swatch products that get lots of hype, but in general I end up walking away with something different… If a few products from a line are getting lots of hype, I generally take that to mean that they make good products, so I’m not as afraid to branch out from whatever product is getting the most attention. For instance, I love Nars to death, but I’ve never bought anything in the shade Orgasm (except for mini lip glosses that they put in sets)because it’s too shimmery and noticeable on me. But it was hype about Orgasm that first convinced me to check out their blush products; I just settled on a different shade.

I actually almost always try the brand’s eyeliner first. From there i will try more, but i’m always on the hunt for a good eyeliner that will not migrate down my face when i put it on my waterline.
