Right now, I’m using Bare Escentuals (well, bareMinerals, I guess) Deep Foaming Cleanser to cleanse, Renee Rouleau’s Elderberry Toner to tone, followed by Differin (prescription), and finally bareMinerals Nourishing Cream for Dry Skin to moisturize.
Thanks to Tracy for today’s question!

loreal 360 clean daily cleanser
clean n clear daily astringent
caudalie vinoperfect radiance serum
lancome absolue premium bx moisturizer (this is a bit greasy for my taste… still trying to find the perfect moisturizer for under 50$)
Pond’s cold cream to melt makeup. Philosophy Purity to cleanse. Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash.
Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 to tone. Lancome’s Genifique serum concentrate.
I was using Philosophy’s Miracle Worker cream day & night. But I have since gone back to using my old favorite Lancome’s Primordiale cream. I use the eye & night cream from that line at night.
biore steam deep clean (love it )and pore strips followed by tattoo glue salve to moisturize.the rosemarry is helping my dry skin and to ballance my skin
Same as the morning, My 3 step skin ID system (I swear by it) and I just started using Neutrogena’s light-night cream. I’m not sure how I feel about it though…any one have suggestions for a good night time moisturizer, cuz I definitely need one, but it can’t be too oily.
Step 1. Clarisonic Mia with Gently Hydro Cleanser
Step 2. Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion (toner)
Step 3. Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair
Step 4. Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Corrector
Step 5. Cetaphil Moisturizer
Step 6. Shiseido Benefiance Eye Cream
Step 7. Andrea Lash Revitalizer
Depends on my makeup.
If I wore liquid foundation, then I’ll take it off with Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser. I’ve tried sooo many different cleansers and nothing seems to beat it!
On the other hand, if I’m just wearing a mineral/powder-based foundation, then I honestly don’t bother doing anything before bed anymore (well, maybe a couple swipes with eye-makeup remover pads). Wearing light makeup to bed doesn’t bother my skin at all, but too much washing and moisturizing makes me break out.
Clean off my makeup with whatever I have handy, either Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Cleanser (which is actually anti-acne but takes makeup off REALLY well) or Laura Mercier One Step Cleanser, followed by Antipodes Vanilla Pod Cream or Palmers Night Renewal Cream, depending on how dry or flaky my skin i,s as well as Palmers Anti-Wrinkle eye cream.
Cleanse: Alternating nights with Origins Clean Energy and Olay ProX Brush and matching Cream Cleanser
Tone: Alba Botanica Hibiscus Toner
Serum: EL Advanced Night Repair (testing) or Jeune d’Age Organics Anti-Aging Serum
Medicine: Neutrogena 2% salicylic acid for spots
Moisturize: Desert Essence Daily Facial Moisturizer
Sounds like a lot, I know! But it takes less than 10 minutes.
Clinique Extra Mild Cleanser, Clinique Clarifying Lotion 1, Josie Maran Argan Oil followed by Estee Lauder Time Zone Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream. And on occasion, Persagel on stubborn pimples.
Ooh! Fun one! Right now I use:
1) A cream cleanser (Clinique’s Extra Mild one or Aveda’s Tourmaline Charged cleanser)
2) Olay’s Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir (as an AHA exfoliator) – I’m looking for a good retinoid product to sub it with, then I’ll just use the Olay in the mornings and the retinoid in the evening.
3) Estee Lauder Perfectionist [CP+] Serum.
4) Moisturizer – Which I often switch around. Sometimes I use an oil blend, sometimes I use an actual moisturizing product, somtimes I just use coconut oil or my own whipped Shea butter cream. All depends on how I’m feelin’ ๐
Morning routine is the same without the AHA at the moment. Like I said, when I find a good retinoid product, I figure I’ll switch the AHA to the mornings and use the retinoid at night. I just haven’t found one that I REALLLLY really like yet. Suggestions? Anyone? ๐ lol
Christine: How do you test all these products? I’m feeling bad for your skin because it must always get a wake up call from all the changes in your skin care routine! I couldn’t do it because I have sensitive skin! Kudos to you.
I currently use:
Makeup Remover: Neutrogena Night Calming Cleansing wipes (the best ever!)
Eye/Lip Makeup Remover: Lancome Bifacil
Cleanser: Philosophy Purity Cleanser (saved my life from acne!)
Cleansing tool: MIA by Clarsonic (also saved my life from acne!)
Moisturizer: Philosophy Hope in a Jar (night)
Philosophy Hope in a Tube with SPF 15 (daytime)
Exfoliator: Philosophy Microdelivery
Eye Cream: Mary Kay Firming eye cream but I want to try the Kiehl’s Avocado eye cream
I generally rotate in a new product every 4-6 weeks, so I do not change my entire skincare routine at the same time. I test all products for at least 4-6 weeks unless it’s a cleanser, then I usually test for 2-3 weeks (sometimes longer, of course, but never less). By rotating something new in every few weeks, it helps my skin from going nuts because of any switching but also enables me to see how each product is working on my skin (or not working).
It varies SO much but usually a wash off cleanser (if I’m lazy, a cream cleanser and warm, wet face-cloth), retinol cream from Alpha Hydrox or NeoStrata, Clarins eye cream and Clarins Blue Orchid Oil. And EA Eight Hour Cream on my lips.
Perricone Citrus Facial Cleanser, which by the way is the only cleanser that I can remember looking back that takes off all of my makeup in just the one rinse therefore I recommend it and you won’t be sorry, and now I’m trying out Cane & Austin’s Retexturizing Pads to exfoliate but only because I’ve had a bad rash for many weeks, and not an actual bad acne breakout even though my skin is acne prone.
I’m at my wits end about what to do about my rash!
Right now it’s pretty simple, cleans with Garnier Skin Renew Resurfacing 3-Way Cleanser and Lorรฉal Advanced Revitalift Night…I’m 25 and want to prevent wrinkles and such, I’m not sure I’m using the right stuff (Lorรฉal Cream), do any of you have any suggestions?
Remove make up with Mac cleanse off oil , then use Bobbi brown lathering tube cleanser, then tone with Mac lightful active softening lotion, then put on philosophy eye cream eyehope, then apply Mac lightful serum and finished with Bobbi brown moisturizing gel cream
Cleanser: Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics Purifying Cream Cleanser
Serum: Clinique Turnaround Concentrate
Facial Moisturizer: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream
Eye Cream: Clinique All About Eyes Rich
Also: I use Wet n’ Wild’s new Eyelash Megalash Serum at night and am seeing noticable eyelash health and growth! Pretty good results for a $5 serum.
How do you find differin? Do you find it really dries out your skin?
It dried my skin out a lot in the first 1-2 weeks, so I reduced it down to once every other night, and now I use it every night and don’t have any issues.
Have you done a review about bareminerals skincare? I love their makeup, but was curious about their skincare…especially mosturizer & cleansers.
No, I just started using it!
If I didn’t put makeup on, I wash with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. Tone with tea tree oil and water. When that dries, spectro gel moisturizer for sensitive skin, Clearisil rollerball spot treatment. If I had makeup on, after I use a makeup remover, I wash once with Life Brand Dermagel (Spectro Gel dupe) to make sure I get all the junk off my face before I use my Neutrogena.
Cleanse with LUSH Angels on Bare Skin. Remove eye makeup with The Body Shop eye makeup remover. Tone with LUSH Tea Tree Oil in T-zone and Breath of Fresh Air everywhere else. Moisturize with LUSH Celestial or Hope in a Jar. I have a zillion eye cream samples (Murad, Dr Perricone, Kiehls) so one of those (Wont ever purchase eye cream, those samples last forever). Lastly, I have a couple samples of wrinkle cream (Kate Somerville, Kinerase) that I use around my mouth and in between eyes.
Clarins One Step cleanser, the minty one, if I didn’t makeup my face too heavily, l’Occitane Red Rice Cleanser otherwise. Then Esthederm Cellular Water, and Clinique Night Youth Surge.
i wash with purpose cleanser, moisturize with neutrogena sensitive skin moisturizer, mario badescu control cream if i’m feeling dry, and l’oreal skin genesis eye serum.
First, I use my Clarisonic with my Philosophy Purity Cleanser. Then I tone with Clinique Clarifying Lotion in #2 and moisturize with Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer.
Ole Henriksen On The Go (liquid or wipes), toner if I remember), truth serum or Advanced Night Repair, and Daywear, fresh umbrian clay lotion, or caudalie vinoperfect depending how dry or oily skin is and how dry the apt is.
Cleanser – LUSH Angels on Bare Skin mixed with crushed aspirin
Toner – Witch Hazel or LUSH Eau Roma Water
Moisturizer – First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
I’m using Etude House mini U size astringent and serum and then no spot gel from Oriflame to recover my acne.
I use the Philosophy Purity foaming cleanser with my Clarisonic Mia, following by Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream, then Ziana (a prescription Retin-A gel). Sometimes Olay Intense Age Defying night cream but I find a bit too heavy for my oily skin.
Right now, all philosophy products:
Wash with purity and clarisonic mia. Follow with when hope is not enough serum and help me retinol. Moisturize with hope in a bottle (soon to try its new incarnation hope oil-free).
I will probably be switching to some Lush products soon since I just got hired there. I’m hoping their routine works better for me now that I’m on a different birth control… lush couldn’t control my hormonal acne before.
In an ideal scenario, where I don’t just scrub my makeup off and drop into bed:
Neutrogena Moisturizing Eye Makeup Remover
Cetaphil to remove face makeup
Clean & Clear Daily Pore Cleanser
Marcelle Hydra-C Complexe Eye Contour Gel-Cream
Kiss My Face 4% AHA Peaches & Cream moisturizer
or
Garnier Moisture-rescue Gel-Creme and Benzaclin
C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve on lips
But I’m lazy, so this doesn’t happen super often, haha.
1. step: bioderma h2o micellair solution (best cleansing product EVER)
2. step: a mild gel cleanser by dr. eris (a Polish brand)
3. step: mild, alcohol-free toner by dr. eris or clarins
4. step: flavo-c forte, vitamin c serum (i do a 3month treatment)
5. step: clinique all about eyes rich
6. step: as I have very dry skin and it’s still quite cold here I pamper my skin with shea-butter, l’occitane 100%raw shea butter
and every 5 days I skip the serum &sheabutter and apply a peeling product over night, it’s the peel fluid by QMS medicosmetics
Target Make-up Remover Clothes or MAC Cleansing Oil
Proactiv Deep Cleanser Wash w/ Olay Brush
Proactiv Toner or Avon Anew Serum
I go back and forth between my Olay face wipes and Pond’s Col Cream. Then I use a toner from Boscia (it came in a kit, I have NO clue what it does, but I paid for it so I’m gonna use it!), and Pond’s dry skin cream to moisturize.
Have been doing this routine for 6 months and love the results. My hyperpigmentation and acne scars are fading away.
Cleanse with DDF Brightening wash
Tone with DDF 10% Glycolic toner (only on extra greasy days and zit forming).
For eyes, Clinique All About Eyes
Moisturizer, Philosophy Help Me and Cerave PM lotion.
Lancome Cleansing Oil, then Purity cleanser with my Clarisonic Mia, then rinse, pat dry and apply Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle cream all over and on/underneath my eyes. 1x a week I use Bliss Steep Clean mask – it really helps keep my pores clear.
I remove my makeup with a wipe or MAC cleansing oil. Then, I cleanse with Clean & Clear foaming face wash for sensitive skin. After 30 minutes or so, I apply my Retin-A cream (tretinoin).
Cleanse with Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser and moisturize with grape seed oil.
1. La Mer Cleansing Foam with Clarisonic Mia
2. La Mer Radiant Infusion
3. La Mer Eye Concentrate
4. La Mer Regenerating Serum
5. La Mer Creme La Mer
6. La Mer Lip Balm
7. RapidLash Eye Lash Serum
8. La Mer Hand Cream
Expensive, but have been doing this morning and night for 5 months now and the results are incredible. Very very happy with my skin. ^^
Christine how are you liking the Differin? I was perscribed it about a month ago.. dried me out a bit so I only use it every other night now.. I can’t tell how effective it is yet..
I like it, and I think it helps. I’ve been using it for about 3-4 months now, though. I didn’t really think it was helping until the 2nd month or so. Now that they make generic… it made it easier to stick with (before it was $185 a tube for me!).
Wow, that’s outrageous! Glad they have generic for Retin-A too. I can’t imagine what it would cost for the brand name medicine.
1 – Neutrogena Oil-Free Makeup Remover (the blue one)
2 – St. Ives Timeless Skin Daily Microdermabrasion (2X since i now use a foundation primer and i don’t feel clean after just 1X)
3 – The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Toner
4 – Eucerin Sensitive Skin Everyday Protection Face Lotion SPF 30 (I have yet to find an actual night cream that i can afford AND won’t break me out ๐ so i just use the same one i use in the morning)
Philosophy Purity Made Simple face wash, or just a hot damp washcloth to clean my face (depends on the makeup I wore that day.)
Mario Badescu Special Cleasing Lotion C.
A tiny tiny bit of Origins Plantscriptions.
Clinique’s dry skin antioxidant moisturizer (totally blanking on the name, and it doesn’t seem to be on the site.)
Origins GinZing eye cream.
did you have major purging with differin?
Nope, for me, it didn’t get worse before it got better – it was more or less the same and then better.
Philosophy Purity Cleanser
Atralin (retinoid)
Skinmedica Eye Repair or Kiehls creamy eye cream with avocado
Love reading about other people’s routines!
Right now I just started using Pro-Activ so I’m using that cleanser with my Clarisonic followed by the Pro-Activ toner and lotion… Then I usually just moisturize with Hope in a Jar and Darphin eye cream.
1. Cleanse with Cetaphil Cleanser for oily skin (use w/ Clarisonic 2X a week)
2. Philosophy Help Me Cream
3. Aveeno Clear Complexion Moisturizer
4. Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye cream
Philosophy Purity w/ my Clarisonic
Philosophy Miracle Worker Retinoid Pads
Philosophy Miracle Worker Serum
Clarins Multi Active night cream
I’ll probably finish up the Miracle worker, but I’ve been on the hunt for something that both refines my skin and brightens it, so I would be totally open to suggestions!
Should also add, Fresh Black Tea Age Delay Eye Cream which has quickly become one of my favourites!
Neutrogena- acne stress control wash Or philosophy purity cleanser from a big sample i got!
Kiehl’s- ultra facial toner
Kiehl’s- Midnight recovery concentrate
Kiehl’s- Ultra facial cream
Kiehl’s- Lip Balm #1
Aura Cacia- Roman Chamomile oil to my wrists and neck
Kiehl’s- Ultimate strength hand salve
This is my night skincare routine:
1)Clinique Take the Day Off Balm-makeup removal
2)Lancome Mousse Radiance-cleanser
3)Lancome Tonique Radiance-toner
4)Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum
5)Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Recovery Complex
6)Clarins Multi-Active Night Recovery Cream
Shower and rub face with hands. Just wash with hot water. Rub long enough to get dead skin off if there is any.. and that’s about it. Not always done at night, sometimes done in the early afternoon. Basically, whatever time I feel like showering.
And now my acne is FINALLY clearing up. If only scars would fade faster…
Jeeze, a lot of people here have really long routines :/ Even when I was using products, I really only used two: LUSH’s Herbalism to cleanse (and remove foundation, as I used to wear some), and whatever moisturizer I was using at that time. I can’t see how anyone would want to have more than 2-3 steps in their regimen!
I use Kanebo Kracie Naive Olive Deep Cleansing Oil to remove makeup, then cleanse with either Soapalaya Soaps Lavender Cleansing Grains or Lush Buche de Noel. Then I tone with Ole Henriksen Pick Me Up Tonic and apply Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Clear Skin Cream. I wait about 10 minutes, then apply Avalon Organics Vitamin C Serum, then my homemade moisturizer (about 1:1:1 jojoba oil, olive squalane & rosehip oil) and spot treat with Mario Badescu’s Buffering Lotion. Plus Soapalaya Soaps Green Tea Lip Butter & Sara Happ Lip Slip.
1. Pond’s cold cream to take off eye makeup (nothing works better!)
2. A very gentle creamy or foaming cleanser. Right now that’s either Clean&Clear’s Cream Cleanser for Sensitive Skin, or Olay’s Gentle Foaming Cleanser for Sensitive Skin. (My skin gets red and irritated really easily)
3. L’Oreal’s Hydrating Toner
4. Olay Complete Night Fortifying Moisture Cream (most nights). If I’m feeling really dry, I might use Olay Active Hydrating Cream. It feels thicker to me.
Since my skin’s so sensitive, I exfoliate every 7-10 days with St. Ives Apricot Scrub.
Right now I just use Cetaphil bar soap and a facial sponge. Doubles up as a cleanser and exfoliant. I use the sponge every other night to not burn my skin out. And I use Differin too! ๐ Then over that, I use Aveeno moisturizer.
All Kiehl’s: Ultra Facial Cleanser, Ultra Facial Toner, Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate, Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Acne Blemish Control Daily Skin-Clearing Treatment, and Rosa Arctica cream. Yes, I’m a little Kiehl’s obsessed but my skin has never looked so good.
Using this routine for a few months my adult acne skin (iยดm 26)has finally cleared up and is less oily too.
1. Take off make up with Bioderma crealine h2o
2. Tone with Clinique clarifying lotion #2
3. Moisturize with Dr. Hauschka normalizing day oil (balances out my combination skin!)
I do also use a organic german drugstore brand eye cream and an exfoliator from the same brand twice a week.
YEP…I’m a guy who washes his face every nite right before I go to bed! My Niece is an Esthetician, and she used me to get her state boards. For one year I have done the same route:
Step 1 Deep Cleaning Astringent
Step 2 Silk Refreshing Apricot Scrub w/ Olay foaming face wash
Step 3 Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer
My face feels exceptionally clean, soft, and smooth!
YES, I shave my face every morning…
