It’s probably a close race between Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy, Marc Jacobs Beauty Intro(vert), L’Oreal True Teal.
Thanks to CJ for today’s question! Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.
Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy, UD Stash, Sephora Surfer Babe.
BH Party Girl Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Chase (dark brown) – cheap and lasts a long time on my oily lids
Maybelline’s Hypersharp liner in Jet Black, MAC’s Teddy Kohl and MAC’s Black Black Chromagraphic Pencil.
Two that I use almost every single day are, Nyx Slide-On w.p. eye pencil in Jet Black for my tightlining of my upper waterline by my lashes, and also used a lot for my lower lashline, and I usually do my cateye of my upper lashline with Essence Gel liner in Midnight In Paris.
Definitely LSD from Urban Decay. It’s my go-to for a winged liner look, plus it goes with most lipsticks. I love how it is unassuming, but when built up and seen in the right light, the sparkles truly shine through. It is gorgeous!
UD Corrupt and Bourbon are neck-and-neck, but em cosmetics waterliner in Royal Amethyst is my favorite bright. It doesn’t budge from my waterline and it’s a really vibrant purple.
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Perversion by a landslide. It’s my HG black eyeliner pencil. I love how incredibly black it is, and how creamy it is. I can put it on heavily, then quickly use an angled brow brush to flick out a cat eye. It sets quickly, and once it’s set, it stays set. It works great on my waterline. I use it almost every day.
Love UD Perversion! It’s the blackest black pencil eyeliner I own. It goes on beautifully and doesn’t budge. It’s definitely my most used pencil eyeliner. But I am a fiend for eyeliners and I also love Laura Mercier Ground Espresso tight liner cake, Bourjois liner feutre pen and Illamasqua Precision Gel.
Probably my Sila Kajal liners in amethyst and grey and my black Smashbox cream liner and my Nars Larger Than Life liner in Rue Bonaparte
Definitely Sephora brand eyeliner in Fairytale. It’s such a beautiful glittery green, and it always makes me feel put together. I try to branch out and go for others I own, but inevitably come back to this. Whenever I have my husband pick one, this is the one he goes for!
Urban Decay Crave, before that it was Demolition. Matte dark brown is almost always my choice.
MAC Teddy on my lower lash line. Anything goes when it comes to my upper lash line. My most reached for are TT Spark of Envy, UD Rockstar, Sephora Sailor Suit, Sephora Fairytale, MAC Undercurrent, and MAC Petrol Blue.
Intro(vert) is really lovely – I nearly broke down and bought it but instead, I got a liner from Sephora that is exactly the same colourwise, though not quite as delicious to apply. My most used liner has to be GOSH Metallic Brass – it goes with everything, every day!
Metallic Brass was #5 on my list – definitely in my everyday pile 🙂
I sense a pattern here, Christine. 😉
Mine would probably be my Jesse’s Girl Liquid Eyeliner or my KATE Slim Gel Pencil, both in black. If we’re talking colored eyeliner, it would be my Essence Long-Lasting Eye Pencil in Bling Bling. It’s a lightly shimmered gold-bronze that adds a subtle definition on my lower lashline.
For me, it would have to be the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Black Matte (applied with an angled brush), YSL Creme eyeliner in Jade Black, and Chanel Yeux Stylo in Ardoise, although at the moment am enjoying MAC Royal Wink for a pop of color.
Have recently tried a couple of black pen liners but I find them harder to work with.
A close tie between Marc Jacobs Luna(Tic); the pale icy lavender shade, and Illamasqua Severe: discontinued, I think, and a really rare intense cool pink based burgundy shade safe to wear around eyes.
Urban Decay “Roach”! I love it!
I use this one often too!
For a black pencil liner, I use Ardency Inn Smooth Ride black eyeliner, but for a nice dark color that isn’t black, I use UD Empire 24-7 Glide-On pencil a lot.
For liquid liner, I always use MAC Liquidlast if I’m doing winged liner because I love doing really enormous wings that cover most of the lid. My eyelids are hooded and super oily and Liquidlast isn’t affected by that at all.
Most likely Urban Decay Demolition. I usually do a natural look for work and that makes it very easy without being too dark.
Urban Decay Roach! It goes well with so many neutral palettes! I have to get a few new ones every year
Clinique Quickliner Intense in Intense Black.
UD Rockstar, Marc Jacobs Brown(out) and UD Naked3 double eyeliner.
MAC Eye Kohl in Tarnish. It’s black with a hint of dark green. When used on the waterline, it makes my eyes pop more than basic black does.
Mac Teddy and Rimmel kohl kajal in Nude
I rarely use eyeliner anymore!
Marc Jacobs Blacquer and Urban Decay Freak.
Daniel Sandler waterproof liner in Black or Cargo Swimmables in Black. Urban Decay Whiskey if wearing Brown.
This one’s easy: MAC Rich Ground fluidline. It’s my go to staple as it is very close to my hair color and looks very natural for everyday wear.
UD Scorch for lower lash line and UD Zero for tightlining
Still my Smashbox Limitless eyeliner 🙂
I’ve been using L’Oréal Lineur Intense (black) for over 25 years, so… As for pencil/waterline, I use Essence Long Lasting Eyeliner Pencil; before that, it was L’Oréal Le Khol in Onyx, but the Essence is better, cheaper, and doesn’t require a sharpener.
My go-to eyeliners of the moment are Gosh Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Black Ink and Gosh Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Truly Brown. Since I have been unable to find these eyeliners where I live, I have a friend send them to me from NYC. I live in Southern California and have not found a source for Gosh yet. I also reach for the Pixi eyeliner called BlackCocoa. I can’t use that one any where near my lower lash line or water line as it burns my eyes but I have had no trouble with it on the upper lid.
I completely finished my beloved UD Half-Baked – ever since, my most used eyeliners are probably Sephora Collection Blonde Ambition and Black Lace.
Urban Decay Bourbon
UD Perversion, but Roach gets a fair bit of use as well.
Currently UD Zero or Whiskey smudged on the top water line and outer lash line and MAC Desiger Purple on the bottom lash line.
Undecided. MJB are my candy yet I LOVE CT’s and have all of them, too! I use something different every time because anytime I’m in a position to wear makeup, I’m in a different mood and get creative. I have light green/aqua/gray eyes and have recently been very much enjoying the following combinations: Tom Ford Spice on upper lid, MJB Peridot or Blue it away (? Name) on lower waterline and lash line to pop the eye color. TF 2015 & Blue me away (whatever) or Top secret/ sunset is beautiful! TF Platinum with Lolipop or the orange sorbet.. Midnight, any, really. 🙂 I really want to try THREE brand eyeliners from Japan. OMG they lol gorgeous! Especially the dark blue-Violet one! Well.. They have amazing pinks, burgundies as well.. Sigh. So pretty! Please google them! I’d love your review, Christine! 😀
Most used of all times must be Bourjois Metallic liners in black and brown. These days I’ve been using Sephora Contour Eye Pencil in Tiramisu.
Mac Duck, MUFE 24L or Sephora Nano in Gris Gris. (I don’t like black on myself) Nyx matte baby blue for waterline.
correction: it is not NYX, it’s a GOSH Velvet Touch liner in Ice Blue. I keep it in my purse for brightening the eyes/cancelling pink waterline.
Stila All Day Waterproof Eyeliner in Black
Essence Gel Eye Pencil in Cocoa Bean
Clinique “Egyptian”
MAC “Permaplum”, “Uniform” “Stubborn Brown”
Estee Lauder “Black Plum”
Bobbi Brown Black Mauve gel liner (upper)
Sephora Nano pencil in Azur Blue (lower)
I think it’s been discontinued 🙁
UD 24/7 eyeliner pencil, color LSD for lower lashes.
I also use UD on upper lid but vary colors daily.
My most used eyeliners would be Laura Mercier’s Sapphire and Plum as well as Mac’s Blue Ivy and Powersurge.
Sidebar: My Mom and I had a pre-Mothers Day shopping/ lunch date today and she was wearing her most used eyeliner – UD Mainline – on her upper lash line. It looked so pretty in the sunlight. She is 75 and looks so modestly gorgeous in her makeup. She’s my inspiration. Happy Mothers Day everyone!
That’s so great!! Personally I love Mainline in the waterline with a neutral eye for a pop of color.
My Mom is the one who got me into makeup. When I was a bit older, I remember doing her makeup for her. It was a fun thing we shared. I was 24 when she died. She was only 55. This was 19 years ago, so I now realize how young 55 is.
Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms out there. And if you are lucky enough to still have a Mom, be sure to spend some time with her this weekend.
Aww, that’s a sweet story! I googled Mainline, and wow, it’s a gorgeous navy teal. I’m going to have to check that out.
Awesome! 75 + Mainline (one of my drop dead favorites!) She rules! I hope you and she have a Happy Mother’s Day.
I big agree with Kris, below. I am so sorry you lost yours at such a young age (both of you.) Funny how age perception changes as we, ourselves, age. It’s also incredible how hard-wired +/or socially modeled out behavior/language is. The older I get, the more I hear my mum coming out from my vocal cords: her expressions, her reasoning, her bullshit detector. But I never got makeup from her: I think she owned less than 10 products in her life, though they were classics. My paternal GM never even owned a lipstick… I think the term is bluestocking. My maternal GM bought a lot of product, but she had no ‘sense’ of makeup + was easily swayed by SAs. She spent a lot of money in an OC way. Just today, i am realizing that I never associated her with makeup, probably because she had no skill, and she bought an SL of stuff in any category that interested her. She had a closet stacked floor to ceiling with towels she had embroidered, hemmed, mono-grammed, etc. when she died in the late 70s. Now, that’s compulsive. Even as a small child, I recognized her psychiatric impairment…and i was probably so absorbed in thinking about her strange brain, that I didn’t pay enough attention to her face.
Mother’s Day is a very hard holiday, even if there is some truth to it being created by the greeting card industry.
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack, MAC Black Line and MAC Prunella.
For the longest i was using an eyeliner from Avon until a friend of mine introduced me to the Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Perversion. I was instantly in love!!!!!!!! I love how fast it sets in my eye since im usually on the go all the time.
I tie between Urban Decay’s Scorch (bronze shimmer) and MAC’s Technakohl liner in $$$ (slightly lighter bronze-gold.) Both are great for pale-faced blondes.
Hands down Bobbi Brow Gel Liner in Cocoa Mauve Ink and Black Mauve Shimmer. I’m a pale redhead, so a harsh black can be too much. I own about 40 stick eyeliners, mostly UD but they don’t give me the defined line I like. My eyelids (not my hands) are too shaky for liquid. Love my Bobbi Brown Gel Liners!!!
Going by those I’ve actually had more than one of:
-Marcelle waterproof pencil in black (one of the only properly black liners I can tolerate)
-UD Oil Slick (it’s apparently a soft black, but to me it’s a charcoal with silver shimmer!)
-UD Graffiti (DC now *sob*, bright green)
-UD Stash (gold shimmered khaki)
-UD Corrupt (silver shimmered dark warm brown)
UD’s 24/7 liners and Marcelle’s waterproof liners are my two favourite formulas. I have a tonne of colours in both, but the above are the ones I keep repurchasing. Third place would be MUFE pencil; my most used of that little collection is the burgundy.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
That would be MAC Costa Riche and Teddy
I don’t use eyeliners – because I have hooded, slightly almond shaped eyes and I wear glasses…..
I have tried wearing eyeliner under my lower lashes and it hasn’t looked right.
But I guessed which eyeliners you were going to say Christine, because they always look lovely on you.
You also wear Sephora’s My Boyfriend’s Jeans too. Love these colours.
Rimmel exaggerate eyeliner in black, or bare minerals a big and bright eyeliner, in black
Recently I have found myself reaching for my MUFE black matte liquid liner or the NYX matte black liquid liner. For my lower waterline, I have been gravitating towards using Cynthia Rowley Eyeliner crayon in a light blue. (Not sure of name of the color.) If I want something darker for my lower waterline, it’s Gucci’s color pencil in Black, which is probably my favorite for use in the waterline. Pricey? Yep…but worth EVERY penny.
Lancome’s Hypnose Dazzling in Rouge Cabaret (a beautiful, cream eye shadow that I purchased specifically to use as an under-eye liner), Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Amethyst, and UD’s Underground.
What, which “one” Christina I can’t chose one. 🙂 O.K. lower lash water line is always Marc Jacobs new gel line. Amazing, they do not move, don’t irritate the eye and they last all day. Up top… It’s a tie for a gel I love the tarte gels, very easy to work with but MAC is pretty good too. If I’m doing a liquid sharp wing then It’s the Kat Von D tatoo ink, love the new color options she added. My favorite color is always a brown. They are easier to work with and look a little less harsh.
Urban Decay 24/7 Double-ended Pencil in Zero/Whiskey
My current faves are Julep’s Gel Eye Glider in any color (I have them all!) but this week smoky plum or rich brown seem to be winning, or my other fave is Urban Decay’s 24/7 eye pencil in Voodoo. Love that vivid purple, now that I am pushing my boundaries with more colors. I really like to layer them, smoky plum Julep with UD Voodoo on top.
I loooove MAC Teddy. I think it’s a universally flattering shade, and so creamy. It does smudge a bit though.
I LOVE the Milani Infinite liquid eyeliner, I can literally swim with it on and it’s perfect afterwards. It’s also really dark, I use jojoba oil to remove it so I don’t accidentally damage my lashes removing it
I use 2 different ones. Stila liquid liner and Avon Glimmersticks Liqui-glide (automatic pencil that goes on super creamy and lasts all day).
Jordana Made To Last 12HR gel pencil in Black Point – ridiculously good and super cheap!
A bronze from maybelline I’m trying to use up.
i use ud perversion and black velvet like they’re seriously gonna go out of style.
for softer looks, definitely makeup store darkest shadow or mac coffee on the waterline (which i won’t count to last more than a few hours, but still)
NARS Abbey Road and Bourbon Street Larger Than Life Eyeliners, YSL black cream eyeliner and Rimmel’s nude Kohl have been staples in my collection for years
UD Stash, makes my green eyes pop. UD Rockstar, Psychedelic Sister, lovely purples. For black, UD Perversion 🙂
Bobbi Brown gel liner in Black Ink.
MAC Coffee. No doubt here.
In a general sense, black eyeliner is my most used. I don’t have multiple, usually one at a time and I am currently using Stila’s pencil liner. Works well for me… I have terrible seasonal allergies and it has lasted through my watery eyes. Howver, I still have yet to find any liner that wows me.
Dolly Wink pencil eyeliner in brown or Urban Decay demolition 🙂
Hi Christine-
Have you heard anything about Tarina Tarantino’s beauty line being phased out or anything? I was on the website today and the selection looked kind of small. According to Dermstore, Spark of Envy has been discontinued!:-(
Hi Jess,
Tarina Tarantino is stating that it’s not discontinued, but the packaging is changing later this year 🙂
Oh, awesome! Thanks for the info!
I usually only use a black one on my lid (UD Perversion), but I have recently purchased two of MACs Pearlglide liners in Designer Purple and Undercurrent (Teal) and I’m in LOVE!! I randomly swatched these while browsing and was floored and how pretty they were! I’m usually not one for colored eyeliners but so far I have used them for a pop of color on the lower lash line and as a base to intensify shadows.
UD is my go-to, hands down. If any other pale-skinned specs wearers are reading this, you know how it’s soooo easy to overdo eye makeup when you wear glasses every day, never tan, and maybe have sensitive skin to boot. I have brown/hazel eyes and dark brown hair, so I reach for browns a lot – UD Bourbon and Stray Dog especially. Desperation is a great warm grey – I have difficulty wearing blacks, as they look too heavy for day wear, despite loving Perversion. Ink (matte navy) is great for brown/hazel eyes since blue really pops brown. Riot is a good matte plum. Stila Silver Dollar and Pearl work well for uplighting, though I’m not sure you can still get those.
Still looking for a good blue-gray, which is just enough definition, plus popping the brown – any suggestions? I need a won’t-budge liner since I live in Texas, but a lot of higher-powered liners irritate my eyes. :-/ Thankee in advance for recs!
L’Oreal Lineur Intense Liquid Eyeliner in Carbon Black.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper
Now that I’m doing tightlining more than lining my lid I use Bareminerals Round The Clock – Waterproof Eyeliner 11pm (a very dark grey). When I used to line my lid I used a (now discontinued) Catrice brown gel eyeliner or L’Oreal eyeliner pen in black. (Super Slim, I think)
