What's your favorite type of finish for your lipstick?
LUMINOUS!!! That means a moderate amount of fine pearl and light-to-moderate sheen–it should be a little dewy on the lips but between the shine and pearl, it also gives lips a smoother, plumper look.
Creams, but sparkles and duochromes get a lot of love from me, too.
I love anything creamy, sheer… tinted lip balm, tinted lip oil, lip stain, blotted…in a tube and easy to apply…gives a my lips but better look. I don’t mind reapplying. I want something that is effortless and comfortable that gives me some shine and in a pretty, flattering shade that goes with most looks! Doesn’t have to be fully opaque. I don’t mind very refined glitter as long as I don’t feel it. Doesn’t have to he super shiny. Just some shine, some color and ease and comfort…is my jam!
Satin. Almost like matte, but not as drying and with a little bit of shine.
Same!
Cream, satin, or semi-matte.
Pure matte (like mac retromatte)! Love them! Yes, a little drying, but with a drop of almond oil on your lips on the evening before, before go to bed, issue solved.
Cream with a rich sheen is my numero uno! Think UD Cream, Nars Audacious, MAC Amplified or PML Luxetrance. They look great and feel wonderful while being worn. I also love me a good luminous finish, too.
But, when it comes to a bold red lip, I do prefer a matte in that particular shade. Believe it or not, MAC Ruby Woo does not bother my lips! Then again, I do wear MAC Prep & Prime Lips under it, so that helps.
Sheer, preferably with glitter. Tinted lip balm, tinted lip oil (like the Clarins one), frosted or sparkly lipsticks, as well as luminous ones. Also, love duochrome ones. However, I don’t wear lipstick much, I prefer lipgloss.
Cream with a little sheen and fully opaque. I loved MAC’s Liptensity for this and am sorry to see it go. My favorite formulas are PML Luxetrance, NARS Audacious (some need a zhooj of gloss mixed in because I have found them too matte) and MAC Love Me, Amplified or Satins
We have virtual twin taste in lipstick finish, Pearl!
??
Anything but matte, basically! I like something moist and comfortable to wear but also with good wear time – MAC Amplified Cream is a good example. Clarins used to make the most wonderful lipstick – it was long-wearing without being dry or feeling and looking like you had Sharpie marker on your lips. Of course, this whole formula – Rouge Prodige – was discontinued!
Metallic with some good pigment underneath.
Matte, maybe Satin as a second option.
I simply don’t like for me any lipstick that has shine, gloss or any sort of shimmer, even the slightest. I like how other finishes look on others, I like editorial looks with glossy almost wet formulas, but for me is has to be a Matte. A natural Matte let’s say, I most definitely don’t like the flat very dry Matte lipsticks.
I love luminous finishes too! Seems hard to find anymore in a lip formula! Any suggestions appreciated!!
Dior still has them. Also a lot of Japanese brands still make those.
My favourite kind of finish for a lipstick is creamy, luminous, satin and a bit shiny. Metallics for bronze shades get a lot of love from me as well.
Christine, out of curiosity, which is your favorite brand of luminous lipstick?
Guerlain Rouge G, ColourPop Just a Tint, Burberry Kisses Sheer, L’Oreal Colour Riche!
I can’t pick one, so I’ll put my top 3: matte (especially Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution formula), satin, and shimmer.
I love anything in the range from glossy to cream to satin/matte. I just love lipstick!
I love luminous ones too!! That’s why I absolutely can’t do without my dior ones…
Satin. Matte finishes tend to look cracked and dry the lips out, also on smaller lips they are not flattering. Shiny ones are not long lasting, smudge easily and need touch ups. Shiny lipsticks are my least favourites, they are sticky and again, they require maintenance during the day.
Velvet matte (the type of finish you find in bullets, not tubes).
My favourite formula is MAC’s lustre lipstick formula – sheer-to-medium buildable coverage and a shiny lustrous finish. It’s slightly moisturising, which is great. I totally avoid matte formulas these days, for both dryness and I prefer a more natural finish on my lips.
