What's your favorite black nail polish?

I don’t have one. As far as pure black, the only one I know I have for sure is MAC’s Nocturnelle, which isn’t great. I love Illamasqua’s Creator, but it has lots of silver sparkle in it.

My favorite almost black is OPI Linkin Park After Dark, which is this gorgeous blackened purple that mostly passes for black but isn’t. I don’t have a favorite pure black that I can think of.

Zoya’s Raven is soooo pretty. It does have a slight silver shimmer running through it, but it doesn’t really show up on the nail. I think it does give the black a subtle dimension though, and it applies like a dream.

Sally Hansen Hard As Nails in Black Out. It’s inexpensive, and is pretty opaque in one coat. I use black mainly as a base for layering, so I don’t see the point in spending alot of money on it.

As far as black-like shades, I’d have to go with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Midnight In NY. It’s a black base with multi-color micro-shimmer.

I love OPI Black Onyx, and I also love a long discontinued Revlon polish that was black with very fine silver shimmer. I think the polish range was called Dark Pleasures, and there was a sister range of sheer polishes.

I actually do not own a single solid black nail polish! Everything is either black with glitter or almost black. Right now my fav almost black is A England Jane Eyre. Rarely do my toes and fingers match, but I’m wearing this on both right now.

My favorite’s definitely the Wet n Wild Wild Shine polish simply titled “Black Creme”. I just used it tonight again! I’ve had it for YEARS. It’s an easy one coat to being completely opaque, and it’s 99 cents! I can’t speak for wear time since I typically change polish every 1-2 days, however.

I rarely wear solid black by itself. I use it alot for layering. I do have a love for black polish with glitter or really any black polish with some bling to it.

My go to is Wet N Wild – Wild Shine in Black Creme.
I also like Zoya in Raven, Essie in Licorice and Chanel Le Vernis in Black Satin.

For black sparkle my go to currently is Revlon in Sparkle Aplenty.
I also like Orly in Androgynie, Butter London in The Black Knight, Sonia Kashuk in Starry Night, L’oreal in Owls night and OPI in Metallic 4 Life.

For shatter my go to is Sally Hansen in Ink Splatter and for a black shatter with sparkle my go to is also a Sally Hansen in Star Burst.

The only pure black I have is an Anna Sui one, which works okay. However, I’m quite intrigued by Nevermore from Cult Nails, as it’s described as a one-coater. Illamasqua’s Boosh sounds like it might be good, too.

As for black with stuff in it… I’m currently loving Dior Diva, but am planning on picking up Shu Uemura’s Karl Black and Zoya’s Storm. I’m still kicking myself for not getting Dior Czarina before it sold out. >:

Nails Inc. Black Taxi. It applies like a DREAM and is mostly opaque in one coat. It usually lasts about a week maybe a week and a half with only some tip wear and although creamy and rich in color, is thin enough to be used as a base under glitter/fx polishes without too much bulk. It’s PERFECT.

My favourite is Maybelline’s 677 Blackout from the Colorama series. It looks like vinyl, and it’s cheap! I love it as a base for nail art extravaganza like a black & gold french with a few rhinestones or decals on thumbs and ring fingers. Ahh, more is definitely more 😉

The only pure black I have is Chanel Noir Ceramic, but I don’t use it often… I prefer Opi Light My Sapphire, the colour is almost black with the slightest flash of navy blue/grey under the right lights and I love it.

Christine, I thought you had a black from Nars? I tend to just use cheap blacks like wet ‘n wild or sinful colors or something of that nature because I usually only use it to layer. Though I do have Chanel’s Black Pearl and am looking at picking up Cirque’s Dark Horse (black with holo glitter).

My favorite is definitely Color Club’s Where’s the Soiree? It’s a pure black creme that is opaque in one coat, and it lasts longer without tip wear than any other black I’ve tried.

I still keep reaching for Maybelline Onyx. Like many people, I use black mainly for layering, so the fewer coats needed the better! Sometimes I can get get one coat, but usually it’s two.

I love Essie Licorice. It’s just the perfect glossy black creme, and I use it quite often, especially for layering. It also looks awesome on toes by itself!

I love Nails Inc Black Taxi for a true, patent-leather black. It is just… so black. Great for layering with glitters, but I use it as a background more than a wear-alone (I see hear my former 19 year old goth self shaking her head at me lol) My MOST favorite wear-alone “augmented” black is The Black Knight by Butter London… omg, the shimmer in that in the black base is to die for.

Cult Nails Nevermore is the best black nail polish, hands down. I have several of the other brands listed, and Nevermore is my favorite. One coat gives you completely opaque coverage. It’s fantastic.

I love Wet N Wild Black Creme. Awesome cheap black thats easy to work with and its pretty much opaque in one coat (depends on how heavy handed you are. I can easily make in opaque in one coat with out dealing with bubbling or lumpyness) I’ve tried China Glaze’s black and its garbage.

Reesa Avatar

I actually love Deborah Lippmann’s Edge of Glory. It’s the perfect jet black cream to wear under flakies and other fancy pants top coats. 🙂 I rarely wear a black polish alone, though.

Kayla Avatar

Wet n’ Wild’s Fantasy Makers black that they put out on Halloween. It’s probably the same formula as their normal black, but it’s honestly the greatest.

Thresa Avatar

Adoree Galaxy Black is definitely my fave. It’s black with sliver glitter. For the trend in glitters like right now, with Galaxy black I don’t have to use glitter layered on black.
