The really vampy lip. Even though I really want to, I always feel ridiculous when I wear one!

Thanks to Sally for this question!

the nude lip. I have tanned skin with very pigmented lips and I just can’t find a proper nude lipstick that doesn’t wash me out or compliments my tanned..ness. It saddens me ;P

Amy Avatar

Two looks I have never been brave enough to really rock are false eyelashes, and red lips. I just can’t imagine myself looking good with falsies! I should really try them just for fun but I am also afraid of gluing my eyelids shut. OMG! LOL. And red lips… I have tried different red lipsticks and lipglosses and they all seem to make my teeth look yellow. My teeth aren’t gross or anything but it does bring out any yellowness! Maybe I need to try a more warm-toned red that is very sheer to start, instead of a blue-red. I want to try the new Viva Glam Cyndi but I’m afraid to!

Rosanna Avatar

Why don’t you try it in the store? Ask the make-up artist if you can. (they usually say yes)

The make-up artist sanitizes the lipstick, try the lipstick and look in a mirror.

That’s how I purchase lipsticks, Try before you buy.

Tessa Avatar

In terms of MAC red lips, Cyndi sounds like a good place to start, from what I’ve seen. How would you feel about a coral that leans towards red, like See Sheer? Or for true reds, Lady Bug is a lustre so it’s a bit sheerer and light and fun rather than really full on!

Mimi Avatar

I think you should go to a mac counter or store and ask for an expert to help you (make sure they actually know what they’re doing, because unbeleivably, there are some that don’t :/). Tell them your problem so they can help you find the right shade of red for you. I had the same problem and it took a while, but I found a couple of good shades for me!! 🙂
And also, if you see something and you’re courious, and you can try it without buying it, try it!! What do you have to lose? (;

Alex Avatar

Liner on the waterline. I know it makes so many looks better, but I can’t imagine taking it off, it hurts thinking about the liner or remover getting in my eye OW!

Carolanne Avatar

Same. And what sucks even more for me is that liner on my waterline just makes me look like i’m trying to hard. and it makes my already tiny eyes look even smaller. It doesn’t look right on me, no matter how desperately i want it to! =[

oh well. not everything works for everyone…

Rosanna Avatar

It bugs to have liner on my waterline – it feels dry. Your eye naturally will start to remove stuff away from your waterline so I prefer eyeliner that doesn’t stay there for hours, easier to clean too (your tears do it =P).

I have small eyes too. Any eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes should only reach like one third in and then thin out to half way of your bottom lash line. This makes your eyes look bigger.

Kapi Avatar

You might want to try a white or flesh colored eyeliner in the waterline. It makes your eyes look larger because it reflects the white in your eyes. then you can do your regular liner on the bottom lashline if you want.

I just can’t seem to pull off Red Lipstick. Cant do it!! Also nude Lipstick either….maybe I havent found the right shade. I tend to stick to lipglosses more than lipsticks…and stay in the pink family. I also cant seem to pull off the black/grey smokey eyes without looking like a raccoon!!!

AnGeLwInGz Avatar

I was afraid to wear red for years. I’ve discovered that stains can be a good way to rock a red lip. Try Urban Decay Lip Envy in Greedy. Also try sheer red glosses that give you that “just ate a lollipop” look.

Tessa Avatar

Loads!

Overly nude lips. Peachy nude is as pale as I go.
Lipgloss.
Sparkly highlights on brow, cheekbone, inner corner of eye.

There are also lots of products I just don’t “get”. Dazzleglass, MSFs…

margot Avatar

Hmmm nude lips ? I am very pale with very pigmented lips … and it seems like nude lips make me look sick … if one day I do find a color that suits me, then I’ll go for it … but until now, it’s been a disappointment every time !

Rosanna Avatar

Nude lipstick will look weird if you don’t have the right eyeshadow look.

I know I will never do a nude lipstick unless I have a reasonably dramatic eyeshadow look.

nicci Avatar

Not sure this is a trend or even make up related but I see a lot of women that go tanning a lot – the ones in which when they age, their skin looks like leather. Looks especially bad, when the rest of their body is orange & their face isn’t. How obvious…

Erica Avatar

a nude/pink lip color for my pigmented lips/olive skin tone – can’t seem to find the right one 2. red/orange lips and falsh eyelashes – NOT and bright eye colors that I will never wear.

Az Avatar

Cut crease, I think I look weird. And bold/dark lips. The most dramatic lip makeup I can pull off is pale nude lips with a little red – as if they are freezing & bleeding 😀

kfm Avatar

the faux tanned look. even the supposedly good ones never look real to me. besides, i’m pale-skinned and if i want to add some colour, i find a nice blush gives a much better effect.

rose Avatar

i cant pull anything off on my face, like concealer for my under eye bags, foundations etc. i have never been able to match my skin color or make it look natural. i wish i could…people are always asking me what happened to my eyes, i always look like i didnt sleep. however, i can pull off the crazy lip colors…love red, orange, fuschia, burgundy, so thats a plus.

Kristina Avatar

The “MAC” eye. The fashion that MAC SA’s wear their eyeshadow is just not my style and it has become a huge trend for young women. It’s just too much. I’m not afraid of colour but not so densely and multi laterally applied. May be I’m just too old for that look.

LesleyKat Avatar

I cannot get behind any of those lipsticks from the riveting collection. they are just terrible. frosted mess!

however, ladies, i LOVE an orange lip, dramatic cat-eye eyeliner, pink eyeshadow (if done right) and a dark lip (also if done right.) but hey, i’m a makeup daredevil!

Jess Avatar

black lips–only on halloween for me!
duo color lips–its just silly to wear a different color on each lip! not even cute at all!
also amy winehouse liner–its too much!
leopard eye shadow looks with the press on eye shadow–ick. I understand makeup as art but that does not enhance your natural beauty!
White nail polish also bugs me.
SUPER super long fake nails are gross–how do u live your life? lol. I just don’t like makeup looks that are too artificial.

Rosanna Avatar

Aww <3

I have hooded lids too! But I sometimes do winged liner although it'll take me a while to get both wings looking similar. The line won't show on the main lid but the wing part comes out in the end part.

dolce aria Avatar

Tan.

I am pale, and rosy, in sufficient tones of both that no bronzer can look natural. Consequently, I don’t do a lot of nude/brown lips. Although I do admit that most of this seasons trends you’ve posted from Fashion Week have left me unimpressed as well. I guess I just like the makeup presentation that comes in beauty advertisements, fashion photography, etc. Rather than the mannequin/coathanger neutrals that the runway tends to showcase.

Meredith Avatar

I’m scary pale and rosy too! I look like a corpse without some blush, but I have to cover the redness with some kind of foundation or I look like a very pale person who just ran a mile.

Michelle Avatar

For the most part, it’s blue eyeshadow. I love how it looks on other people, but I just can’t seem to get it to work for me. Just doens’t seem to work with my skin tone.

Crystal Avatar

I’m with Christine. The vampy lip, with a natural face. I love the look on the runways, its so beautiful to me I just cant see myself going out into the real world rocking it. I might try a less vampy lip and see how it turns out.

Jessica Avatar

Red lips, Dark Black smokey eyes and nude lips. I am still trying to master the smokey eye because I soo like that look. Since I am pale though it is a little harsh.

Emily Avatar

I agree with vampy lips. I’ve really wanted to try dark purple lipstick, and I did buy one to try out. I’m not sure whether or not it works on me, but I can never see myself wearing it in public.

JEN Avatar

cut crease…i just don’t get it why people do that!!!! it changes their eye shape, not enhance it. annnnd why do people wear falsies allll the time?? we gotta cherish our natural features girls!! maybe on special occasions but not everyday.

Meredith Avatar

The shiney, greasy eyeshadow look. They seem to use this look in a lot of ads that I see. To me, it just looks like the model is on heroin. That look is a no go, as well as, the black lips. i can just see my boss’s face if I came into work with black lipstick on.

Haylie Avatar

Different colored eyeliner besides black and gray. I know it sounds stupid but I just can’t bring myself to buy another color. I only like black and occasionally gray. I would love to wear a blue or green but I just can’t do it!

Natasha Avatar

The look where they use black eyeshadow all over the eyes and heavily as liner….yuck!! Pardon me for not knowing the name for the look but I’m not feeling it.

AnGeLwInGz Avatar

Matte nail polish and nude lips. I also can’t stand bright orange fake tans, especially paired with bleach blond hair. Who are you trying to fool? LOL

Vivi Avatar

Nude lips. My skin is too yellow, I think, so a pink nude clashes with my color and a true nude just makes me look sick. :/ Peaches look nice on me but rosy lips suit me best.

kcrystal Avatar

Matte nails, fake eyelashes and winged eyeliner. NO NO NO 🙂
Those are the only trends i can’t make work.

Apart from that, i can rock any lip colour except black!

Brian Kelly Avatar

Cult of Beige.

There’s nothing I can’t stand more than women who bash those who incorporate a lot of colors in their looks because it does not fit their ‘basic beauty needs’. These are the women that will lurk and troll anything just to harass people by adding remarks such as its not “wearable” or “you look like a clown”.

aradhana Avatar

i’m with you on the super vampy lip…i often end up looking goth, which is not a bad thing, but it doesn’t always suit me…i keep trying however!

Carrie Avatar

I can’t really pull off the vampy lip either, but I like to wear it around the house once in a while, just for fun. I’m NW15, so wearing it out is not going to happen anytime soon! I also can’t stand matte nails. I started getting into nail polish in November, but I will never like matte nails. I also can’t stand white eyeshadow and lots of black eyeliner, like I’ve seen many wearing.

Emm Avatar

False eyelashes, I just can never get the hang of them and because of that they are too time consuming to deal with. As well as orange or nude lipsticks. They never look right with my skintone.

Sally Avatar

It figures that my questions would get used on my wedding day and while I’m gone on my honeymoon! hehe!

I can’t get into black lipstick (I don’t even own a black top, with my skin tone, even when I’m tan, I look like Morticia Adams)

Faux tanning, I’ve never seen it not look orange, EVER.

Certain pinks on the eyes, it makes me look like a white rabbit with red eyes!

Heavily frosted lipsticks. I know that the ’80s are making a comeback, but some of the ’80s should remain in the past!

Rachel Avatar

Nude and dark lips.Just can’t work with it.
And…personally, any color with red or pink in it…like, some brown with red tone. Makes my eyes more puffy than it is already.
