With such a vast array of colors & brands available, and with more women going with what they like as opposed to what is “on trend”, I really don’t think there will be one. Perhaps in smaller, suburban regions there will be a color worn by most women, but even among those regions there will be variety. As for major Metropolitan areas, I think women are more confident, and tend to go with what they like as opposed to what the industry pushes on us. I live in Los Angeles, and I have not seen one person wering orange lipstick, which I thought was supposed to be the “color of the year”. Even clothing stores are trying to push orange clothing, but again, not commonplace, and I think it’s probably even less so in cities like New York or Chicago.
@xamyx All of this! I think that there will be “moments” of embracing colors in fashion that will eventually filter out to the general public, but I can’t see there being one defining look.Â
Agree.
A sheer pink!
The *whole* decade?! Lmao yeesh that’s a long time. But just based off of more recent trends, I’ll definitely say something bright (orange, coral, hot pink, etc) because that seems to be a go-to for the cosmetics industry the last year or two.
Either coral or nude lipstick that goes with smokey eyes.
Hmm.. in my opinion nude colors are fashionable nowdays, rather then coral or peach.
While I don’t necessarily like it, I think its going to be one of those so-called “universal” pinky-brown/beige shades.Â
I was going to say definitely coral
I def think it’s coral!! I love that color..
Definitely red!
purple
Hmm I’d have to say either hot pink or red, I’ve been seeing those around ALOT lately!
yeah, what she said ;-0)
I dunno, I’m thinking nudes maybe…
BERRY COLORS
I think something loud! Maybe a neon pink or bright coral.
No.
I think you’re right, Christine. It’ll be somewhere on that corally/orangey spectrum. I could live with a few years of Ruffian Red, myself.
In my opinion the classic lipstick color for the last decade is nude. I think of colors like like YSL Rouge Volupe Nr 2, YSL Tea Rose, MAC Creme Cup, Creme D’Nude etc. keeping in mind that these colors were published at the end of the decade.
Â
To answer the question for this decade (starting 2010) is difficult. On the one hand the color nude is still up to date, but bright reds are becoming more popular, especially for night time looks. So I say bude for daytime and reds for nighttime.
I really think we need to break it into two parts: spring/summer and fall/winter. I agree for spring/summer coral is the color for this decade. However, for fall/winter I think it’s the dark purply-red (think red wine). I don’t see either color going away any time soon.
I agree with the coral/ orange but nude might be a close 2nd I think
Like every other decade (except the 60’s, when the nude lip really heralded a new generation), I think it will be red. Â Red lipstick has always defined style, womanliness and female allure. Â I think it will always be thus (barring the 60’s, as I said).
@Mariella I would love to see it end up as a red lip – but I think too many cannot find the ‘right’ red they are comfy with for lips.
I think that for the past decade, it would be Nude.
Â
And I’m hoping that for this next one, since we are in the beggining of a new decade, it will be Red! Like MAC’s Ruby Woo or Illamasqua’s Box.
@Tayrine I agree about the last decade.  The 2000’s started off with Lipgloss.  ALL THINGS GLOSS!!!  But then mid-late decade nude lips started to creep in thanks to the likes of Kim Kardashian, Paris H., The Olsens, etc., the comeback of lipstick, as well as dark smokey eyes becoming de riguer.  The classic FB picture clubbing/nightout look, if you will.  For now though I think coral is making a strong comeback. It’s a really fresh color.  Soft and sweet or really intense Nicki Minaj kind of lips.  Plus all the Fashion Bloggers seem to be doing the bare face – fierce lipstick thing in varying pinks, reds, corals and oranges – even purple!  So yeah…if I had to pick I would say coral.  PS I love Ruby Woo.  And probably so does everyone else:)
Definiteley nude lipsticks. Everybrand has its nude lipsticks/nail polishes, maybe a sign of times to look more natural ? Or a trend like many others ?
Now in 2012, probably bright and colourful lipsticks, all shades including blue, violet. Maybe a sign of times ? We need colours to feel alive, colours mean life in fact.
Nature/Life well quite logical in a changing world !
i think it will be sheer lipsticks trend rather than a particular colour!
I agree with coral, although nude or my lips but better are possibilities too.
It’s definitely coral/orange. Look at just about any brand, whenever there’s a lipstick in that color group it’s the first to go. We have finally realized how flattering, if in the right formula, coral can be to any and every skin tone. It’s youthful, sexy and sophisticated. It has definitely replaced red for me. Before discovering coral, I would wear nothing but various shades of red.Â
I agree! Though I think more coral/peach than coral/orange.As soon as I read the question coral just sprang to mind. The 90’s was more brown toned hues, for instance, and I think this will definitely be coral. And I think the nail polish “colour” will be pastels, like mints and peaches. 🙂
coral or it might be fuchsia as I really don’t find all that many good corals and i think we are all a bit over sensitive to things coral right now because of tangerine tango being the ‘it’ shade of this year…when it flips to something next year that is a non lip shade, our thoughts on corals will change and once again our focus will go to pink ranges. i don’t think it will be a nude lip for the decade – that was the last decade…we are still laying claim to this decade’s trends.
 @beachgal
Laura Mercier had a coral kit wiith a shadow duo in cream and brownm a coral blush, and a flattering corla lipstick. It included a make up bag also. There may be other products in the kit. I will find the lipstick in the daytime and post the color name. The kit was at Sephora.
I think bronze or gold with a warm peachy-pink- Like Nars Orgasm for the lips.
Agreed, it’s certainly a tangerine orange sort of decade! And I love it!
in general for this decade it would be “the return of a colour”! we are wearing colour on our lips again, ‘cos before it was all about lip glosses, and sheer nude lipsticks, I’m happy that colours are back!!!
Either a coral or purple. I’m just thinking purple because that’s been happening more in the last few years and I can’t remember any other time when it’s been acceptable 😛
jungle red by NARS
MAC Angel / MAC Ravishing
Probably peachy nude pink
Ruby Woo by Mac
I think that fuchsia
orange/coral? No way, matte retro red. Ruby Woo all the way!
Ruby Woo 4ever 🙂
classic pin up red will always be a classic
media by MaC
russian red and saint germain by mac or any bright red and bubble gum pink color.
I think corals like ever hip b/c they have been in almost every new collection
Hmm, in the 80’s it was a frosty pink. In the 90’s it was brownish nude pink. In the early 2000’s it was different shades of nude. I haven’t thought about this… I imagine peachy pink will win. Those are everywhere now. Personally, mine would be something like Burberry Rosewood.
natural peachy nude, pinky nude etc but not super pale nude.
basically like lipcolour but tone it down.
I’m thinking the classic red(that will always be in style) and very bright lipsticks like Mac impassioned and Mac violetta…..really fun colors
I think nudes although I prefer darker colors.
Coral or nude.
I’m going with coral! It’s definitely my favorite!
