We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Garnier BB Cream and elf lip exfoliator. Hate them but people rave about them. The BB cream is gritty and was straight up orange on me and I got the lightest color. The lip exfoliator just tugs across the lips. Quite uncomfortable even for that type of product. Threw it out after one use!
But mostly a lot of products are just meh and don’t live up to the hype for me ie face primers in general , the original beauty blender and UD original primer potion. The last two, are ok but nothing to write home about and definitely not the miracle products everyone makes them out to be!
Kat Von D LL in Ophelia. It makes me look like I have concealer lips. I haven’t tried yet, but I’m hoping it will look better over a pencil.
Charlotte Tilbury’s Liv It Up lipstick. The shade is cool and light and looked nothing like the swatches, photos, etc. I poured over. CT’s lipsticks are the hardest for me to buy sight unseen. I won’t buy another unless I buy it at the counter.
I have the same issues – these are must try in person products for me.
Urban Decay palettes – I had all the Nakeds. a few Vices, and a few other smaller palettes and gave them away. Some shadows were great but mostly I found the quality in the palettes so-so and inconsistent. I’m not a fan of the brand but I think the single shadows are better quality on the whole.
Burberry Cream eyeshadows – very pretty colors but very tonal and I didn’t feel like I could layer or build up the colors. To be fair, I think I wanted more of a cream texture, like the MAC paint pots or Tom Ford creams, so the drier formula added to my disappointment. I love the packaging, though.
YSL Volume Effet mascara – love the brush, love the formula but can’t handle the fragrance (makes my eyes water).
Colourpop eyeshadows – great colors but I don’t find them very blendable.
Oh I totally forgot YSL mascara! I bought YSL Babydoll. It is highly fragrance, horribly old lady fragrances and boy it is a pain to remove!
wet n wild photofocus foundation its just not what everyone raves about… at least on my skin
Good question 🙂 The Kylie Royal Peach palette! Weak pigmentation and lasting power. I should have waited for your review.
Nyx Lip Lingerie. Even after finding a beautiful, flattering shade, I can say that the formula is no KVD ELL or ColourPop Ultra Satin. It was comfortable to wear, but it wore off very uneven and just looked terrible after about 4-5 hours….and I happened to be out and about! ?
The Lorac “I Love Brunch Color Source Blushes” in the shade Panoramic. It is a very pretty lavender blush that when applied disappeared within 2 hours. I returned it.
It’s probably just me not knowing how to use it properly, but Holy, Holy paint by MAC comes to mind somehow. It swatches soo good on your hand, but I just cannot make it look good on my lids. Ohh.
One shade of the new Dior Lacquer Stick called Indie Rose. It looked patchy and clinged to the dry areas of my lips. The other shade I tried was great though!
Drunk Elephant Vit C. Everybody raved about it. It broke me out and I started very slow. I also NEVER break out from anything, so I am bummed, because I hear this is the most stable Vit C out there.
This happened to me with Drunk Elephant’s sunscreen. I was so excited to use a physical, cruelty free, well reviewed sunscreen and it just pulls like crazy on me. No matter what.
I have combination & acne prone skin and I’m using DERMAdoctor Kakadu C .. I use it 5 times a week and in mornings only .. so far, so good .. and it has been a month and a half.
PS: Choose a good SPF. Depending on where you live.
It’s definitely not the most stable vitamin C serum out there, since it uses the basic form L-ascorbic acid. If you’re concerned about stability check out the ones from Dr Brandt or Algenist that use the much more stable form 3-0-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid. There might be other products that contain this form, but these are the two I know for sure!
Ardency Inn Modster mascara – clumpy, a tiny bit smudgy and just does not hold a curl at all. My cheap @ss Wet N Wild Volume Max was waaaaaaaaay better!
Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer. I got a points perk sample (a nice sized one – would have been perfect in my travel bag) and I’ve tried it 3 times, thinking it must be me or my imagination, etc. but it was awful….balled up when I tried to blend it and my eyeshadows just disappeared by the afternoon. I was really surprised.
The Dior Diorshow cushion foundation. It requires so much preparation, otherwise my skin looks either greasy or it clings to all the dry patches.
Becca Ever Matte Poreless Primer. I have oily skin and this was recommended to me to help with my t-zone during the day. It didn’t help whatsoever so now I’m back to square one.
One? There are so many….
But the last one is easy — it is the Sisley Phyto Teint Expert Foundation. I am still stumped how the samples could be so wonderful and provide the finish I want, with longevity too, and then the product itself was so different — watery, sheer, not buildable. It went back.
Apparently companies amp up the ingredients in the sample so you love it and go buy the full size. Apparently they do that with mascara tubes. The sample will be amazing but the full size just so so. They think consumers won’t notice the difference? Lol
Linda, you just reminded me of an even worse disappointment with a product than I wrote about above: Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation! What is it about foundations that makes finding the “right” one as huge a pain as finding the right shoes or bra??? Seriously!
Nancy! I’ll tell ya, girl, at this point I’d rather by shoes or a bra! Too funny! 🙂
Making the decision to go to that price point did not come willy nilly. I really thought I had it dialed in, and with the small amount I had to use (in the SAMPLE!) it would be worth it over time. I was so stunningly disappointed it made me mad. 🙂
The Marc Jacobs I am liking a lot, but the application takes some fussing, but in the end it’s working out. I feel so gun shy about a full throated recommendation for foundations right now. I’ll wait a bit, and see if it stands the test of time.
Tarte Drench Lip Splash Lipstick in Rose – nice color, but it went into all my lip lines and it didn’t last as long on the lips as I had hoped. Reapplication was a bit of a pain too, it didn’t layer too well immediately.
The Too Faced Natural Love palette was a bit of a bummer to me. I was hoping for it to be amazing, but it was just okay. A few of the colors are great, a few are horrible, but most are just so-so.
Thanks to Temptalia, I’ve had no real disappointments in a long time. All that comes to mind is Bobbi Brown eyeshadow — it’s even dustier and less pigmented than I expected.
This is SO true! The biggest “duds” I’ve had have been product samples (like the Smashbox shadow primer and Nars Audacious mascara) or else products that weren’t reviewed here (a Vichy mask, for example).
The new Chanel Rouge Coco glosses. Beautiful colors, lovely texture, but they all feather on me. I tried all my tricks, but even my best liners wouldn’t stop the feathering?
Anastasia Beverly Hills Ultimate Glow Kit. I thought it was so pretty and sparkly but it turned out to be a beautiful mess lol. The glitter was chunky and poorly binded so it was fallout everywhere. I kinda hated it lol
The Surratt Beauty smoky eye brush was an expensive fail. It is too soft and doesn’t pick up color well at all.
The disappointment I saw (but didn’t purchase) were those same illuminators from Laura Geller. The applicators were awful and while I know the testers shouldn’t necessarily be representative of the product due to the handling they get, the product was just coming out in gobs and messy.
The last disappointment I actually purchased were the new prism lip glosses from Bite. It may be just overhyped expectations and while they are nice, they just simply are not as fantastic as they have been made out to be. I can take them or leave them.
Bite Beauty’s Prismatic Lip Crème. Oh my goodness they were awful on me. Returned immediately.
Urban Decay One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector done nothing for me. Swatched and covered nicely in store but showed no coverage once I got it home. You need to have perfect skin for it to work!
Bareminerals The Nature of Nudes eyeshadow palette.
》week pigmentation that don’t last troughout the day.
It’s skincare, not makeup.
But Dr. Jart Water Drop “moisturizer” !!
I have oily skin, so I thought this would be PERFECT as a daytime/under makeup light moisturizer.
But nope! My OILY skin just feels dry and tight at the end of the day with this 🙁
It was more a color that disappointed me more than a product; but Chantecaille’s lip matte in Suzy. It was not a pretty “nude” on me, so it went back ASAP.
Medusa’s Make-up Stick It eye primer. It came in a sub box, so not a big deal. Even as a glitter glue primer just on the lids, it creased terribly on me. (With someone with dry eyelids, though, it might be wonderful.)
It’s impossible to pick one . Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer just didn’t work for me and I don’t get the hype . Also the Dior Lip Treatment in Lili – way overhyped and overpriced . Last, the Clinique Color Pop Eye Shadow Chubby Sticks – swatched beautifully but I couldn’t get any of the six (!!) I bought to blend .
Agree about the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. It didn’t work (no better application or longevity) and if anything, made me more oily.
Nars Laguna “overhyped is an understatement”.
LimeCrime Diamond Crushers.
Mario Baduscu Facial Spray.
SmashBox Photo Finish Primer Water.
Forgot about :
Becca Ever Matte Poreless Primer.
Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks.. I swear they disappear and fade while drinking water! With all the hype out there I though I was crazy so I bought different colours from different places and even countries LOL. Still Faded Away!
I went into Sephora ahead of the sale and swatched a bunch of stuff and a lot of the highlighters disappointed me. The NARS Banc de Sable palette was WAAAY too much shimmer/glitter for me, as were all the Dior ones, but that just saves me money. The Milk Makeup Blur Stick was also waaay to thick for me and on my dry skin I just know it’s going to pill so that’s also saving me money (though the Milk Holographic Stick in Supernova astounded me and is already in my cart for the sale!). I don’t tend to be disappointed by products I buy because I (almost) always test them out before I buy them.
Laura Mercier Translucent Powder – the powder is great, but the amount of product you get for the hefty price here is really disappointing. I started to hit pan about month after I purchased it and I use it lightly too.
L’Oreal foundations – they just turn yellow on me. Ditto for Clinique.
Marc Jacobs re(Marc)able full cover foundation – I really wanted to like it since because of its oil-free, full coverage claims but it broke up on my so badly and made my soooo oily. Also, I couldn’t find a good color to match me. I’m very fair with pink undertones, but I also have a lot of redness.
Face primers all of them will not repurchase they tend to break me out and I don’t like too much gunk in my face only spf or Cera Ve moisturizer under a hint of foundation. On the eye even sometimes primers does help but do not make any difference either. Depends on what kind of eyeshadow is whether powder I think it holds best, the creamy ones no use on me it disappears.
Colourpop lipsticks. Very hard to spread across lips, heavy and drying. Not a fan at all.
Too faced peach eyeshadow pallet ! I’m not sure if it was the ones they rushed out last Christmas or the kit as a whole. I was never so excited to find something in stock. It was awful even with a primer I couldn’t return it fast enough and I bought it at a discount ?
I just recently tried to shop MAC again because they had a 25% off sale and I immediately regretted it! I bought Sweet as Cocoa blush and Mocha lipstick. The blush broke me out within a day and was so sheer that I could barely see it even after several layers of application. I’ve always hated their lipsticks. I just thought I’d try a different finish because the color was a pretty nude but nope, their lipsticks are still horrible for me! Dry out my lips terribly. I’ll be returning both for a full refund!
While I wouldn’t say I was disappointed the NARS Dual Intensity Blush palette is very hard to get product out of the pan!
