I bought a few of the discontinued Revlon lip butters in Pink Truffle when they went down to clearance prices. I might snag a second ColourPop Dazed lippie off ebay. I keep waiting for ColourPop to reintroduce basically the same color under a new name (which they do a lot with LE stuff) but they haven’t yet.
Durrr I should have got a back up of pink truffle!
Pink Truffle (and Berry Smoothie & Peach Parfait) have been re-introduced as sheers in the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick line. Not the same formula as the lip butters, but your color still exists!
OOH I grabbed a few of those Revlon lip butters too on clearance. I love those!
Awww Man! They discontinued them? I’m so glad I picked up another Revlon Pink Truffle when I did as a back up too!!!

I bought like 4 backups of Colour Pop Lip Pencil in Petit Four because it’s so hard to find gray lip liners, they’re cheap (only $5 each), but there’s not much product in there, so need to stock up. I use them to line my lips and also to mix with other lipsticks to get the perfect shade of gray pink, gray blue, or greige. That way, I don’t need to spend $20 on a gray blue lipstick that I might only wear a few times a year.

Colour Pop Ultra Satin Lip Molly!
I bought backups of UD Revolution lipsticks in the DC’d Catfight and also, Streak, which was a noticeably altered shade once it was released in the Vice formula. Had to, because these are two favorite lipsticks of mine!
theBalm TimeBalm concealer – that was a while back but I very rarely stock up on makeup.
MAC Blanc Type since MAC discontinued it!
WHAT???? They did? I saw that Handwritten (also a Matte2) was only available in the compact, not in the Pro Pan but figured I could get it at the MAC store. Why would they discontinue Blanc Type, one of their universally highly rated eyeshadows (and yet they keep Crapon, oops – I mean Carbon!)

I never buy backup personally… I’m sure that even if my favorite product will be discontinued, I will find something else that I will enjoy. There are so much makeup on the market. But that’s only my opinion.
I’m with you on that mostly…but I really love MAC Blanc Type. Sure in color dupable but I love the creamy Matte 2 formula and cannot for the life of me understand why they discontinued it. I bought a back up. May return to buy a third. Yes there is always new stuff on the market but I’m not ready to give this one up:)
I agree, Erica, I cannot understand why MAC is DC’ing all the Matte2 eyeshadows. Those are their BEST matte formula and work like a dream! Going to try for a b/u of Handwritten and Brown Script.
I feel sort of this way and also, there are very few colour cosmetic products I finish up. But I do make my way through pencil liners fairly frequently (it’s all the sharpening and the fact that you really don’t get much) and those 2 Sephora liners I mentioned were both so fabulous and so inexpensive….I can’t understand why they’d discontinue both (the colours were somewhat similar so why not keep one of them?)
This is me as well. Like, I have some products I really love and plan to repurchase when (if?? some of these are blushes and they last foreverrrrr) I run out. But if they were discontinued, it’d be okay, I think I could replace them with different products I’d love just as much.
Joining the chorus here. There is so much new stuff coming out all the time that I’m sure I’ll find smth I’ll love as much. Why limit yourself, right?
The fact that the color makeup runs out soo slowly for me contributes to this as well.

Backups are generally a bad idea for me unless it’s a base product I use daily, since I change my preferences so much and use things so slowly. BUT, I did buy a backup of Sephora Ultra Shine Lipgloss in Love Me Pink when it was recently in the sale section. It’s a gorgeous, subtle sheer pink with a blue pearl reflect. I love it and I couldn’t pass it up since it was being discontinued!
The Lipstick Queen Medieval. It was so lush and moisturizing and balmy but not in a vaseline way, and looked so nice on my lips. It made the dryness and lines disappear when it was on and my lips looked like wow!
MAC Pearl Blossom beauty powder. I wish it was permanent because I can’t go a day without it.

Sephora’s Diving in Malaysia and Cappucino eyeliners. The way the stealthily discontinue certain shades (Snakeskin Dress and Rooftop Party are 2 faves that are gone now and I use what I have like a greedy miser) taught me to grab backups of my faves. I almost bought a backup of the eyeshadow format of Snakeskin Dress but the reality is that I’ve yet to hit pan on any eyeshadow so I figure I’m fairly safe!
Smashbox lipstick in Cognac! I keep two.. It’s the best darn nude brown ever with a great formula!
I also like to have an extra BiTE lipstick in Palamino which i think they don’t have anymore ??
I absolutely get backups for favorite items! Just in case. Most recently Marc Jacobs highliner in Jazzberry. Also recently — MAC Rich Ground liner (stocking up since it’s been discontinued); Laura Geller blush in Pink Grapefruit; UD Riff eyeshadow; NYX eyeliner in Copper (disc., but I got from Amazon); Revlon HD lip gloss in Rose Quartz; favorite mascara, foundation and skin care items.

I bought a backup once I got halfway through. I love this lipliner and the color!
C: TF Love Lust. Well, you pictured it anyway, with the Nordstrom sale enticements. Lol. You need an extra back up for your parents’ house. I used to get b/us, due to pwps or gwps, but do not seek them out. This can be a real good idea, when there is some notice of a formulation discontinuation. Worked well for most w/ UD lips. Bite, not so much. Wonder what happened to their older stock, when the amuse Bouche came out.
Recently bought a back up of MAC’s Quite Yummy cream shadow…I love the colour, the texture and how great it wears on my oily lids. It’s been my go-to shadow all Summer and I couldn’t risk not having a spare when this one runs out!

Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Pink in the Afternoon. They discontinued it once, brought it back, and I never want to be without it!
It’s discontinued now. I bought the last one at the store by me but Walmart /Walgreens/Shopko/Target doesn’t have it. Not like I will use it up. Have so many lipsticks but yeah a lovely shade!
LOVE that color. Looks no to great on me personally, but it’s a lovely, lovely shade.
That’s the lipstick shade Audrey Hepburn wore and reapplied in the taxi in Breakfast at Tiffany’s as she said, “a girl can’t read that sort of thing without her lipstick.” And, thus, the color of legends was born. Why they discontinued it with that pedigree, I’ll never know. Then again, I suppose no one knows about it at all anymore. 🙂
I rarely buy backups of color cosmetics bc typically something new that I want to try is always being released. The only backups I have of color cosmetics are: Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No. 1 lipstick: my HG MLBB lipstick (sadly it was LE so it’s no longer available), Dior Forever foundation (Ivory): a solid matte for me, REN BB Cream: an outstanding BB, and MAC Faerie Whispers Beauty Powder (Sparkling Rose). The only other “backups” I purchased were not as per se backups but bc I felt the product would be collectible in the future. I have several plastic tubs filled with collectible cosmetic packaging as well as collectible cosmetics. (Btw, I tried to get the Tarte Rainforest foundation during their sale but my shade was out of stock. I ordered their gel foundation instead…hoping it’s decent.)

I have a few items I’ve recently bought backups of, the most recent being the It Cometics CC cream when It was on 5x points at Ulta. Also picked up two bottles of Revlon Nearly Naked foundation on Amazon, which I haven’t been able to find in stores anymore, but it’s my favorite foundation to mix in to foundations that I find too pink-toned.

Many years ago, one of my absolute favorite eye palettes was made by Max Factor (can’t remember the exact name), and I found out they were going to be discontinuing the MF line here in Canada, so I went around to the local stores and bought every palette of that specific color I could find (about nine or ten of them). Many of the stores had already pulled all the MF stuff, so I got lucky with what I did find.
They lasted me for a good eight or nine years.
Paula Dorf baked eye essentials in the browns. Ohhhh my gosh. If something ever happens and I can’t get my hands on these babies, I will cry.
The last one I bought was a backup of one of my favourite eyeshadows, Smoke and Diamonds by MAC. It was limited edition but I managed to get my hands on it years later! I’m glad because I was always wary of using it since I didn’t want to finish it without having a spare. It’s nice to finally get some use out of this lovely eyeshadow. ?
Urban Decay Sheer Rapture and Tom Ford Bicoastal blush. I generally prefer cream blushes over powder, but Bicoastal is lovely.
Tarte Shape Tape, and the Tarte Metallic shadows in Speakeasy, Scarlet and Dame. Amazing.

most recently was colourpop puppy love shadow, only because the profits go to help puppies in no kill animal shelters! and I’m so glad I did buy a backup, because that shadow is one that got lost in the move I went through recently ?

I’m really afraid the regular Cover Girl Super Sizer mascara, not the one with the fibers, will be discontinued. I like having a back up of things I love and use regularly, so even if it is a product that’s a mainstay, I will have it on hand.

Maybelline Rebel Bloom Color Sensational Rose Rush lipstick. About an hour ago. I just love the color, it’s so perfect for summer! Also got a backup of L’Oreal’s Miss Manga Rock mascara for my wimpy lashes, and Colourpop Lippie Stix in Brink, my favorite (so far) nude lip shade.
Beccas backlight priming filter. I bought it & the very first time I used it, I literally walked into my office & ordered a backup. I love it so much!
Mac Orb. Terrified I’ll run out of it. It’s been my mainstay for years. I keep looking for dupes for it because Macs sales associates are so condescending I hate to bother them. Is there a dupe for Orb? Since refills are only $6.00. I’ll just look down my nose at them while they ring me up.
Now this is weird, but I was thinking this morning about what your question would be today and I thought it might be about what backups you have or what you would buy again……..
My back up would be foundation too – for summer I love the Rimmel Match Perfection in light porcelain and now in winter I have the Covergirl Outlast Illuminating Foundation in pale ivory and I have backups for each. I get them when they are on sale.
I also have a back up of my favourite blush – the Natio Sunkissed mosaic palette of warm peachy colours.
I certainly don’t need backups of eyeshadows!
Oh and lipsticks – my favourites Milani Cinnamon Spice, Candied Toffee and Maybelline’s In Style Sienna.

“Jean Queen” lipstick, by Lipstick Queen. I got tired of shuffling that single tube back and forth between my makeup drawer at home, my purse, my travel bag, and my boyfriend’s apartment. So now I own two, and I’m contemplating making it three (just to be sure, y’know)!

Two things…Clinique cheek pop in heather pop and UD eyeshadow in pistol. I bought all of them that I could find. I heard they were retiring that shade and it’s a favorite.
The Alchemy shade from the Colour Pop x Jamie King collection. I actually bought two extra… It’s just a glitter topper but it looks great even alone and I’ve gotten so many compliments for something so easy! I was happy to have them when they announced the final sale a few weeks later.
Givenchy #301 Magnolia lipstick. I’m going to get more before it’s discontinued. (It’s not being discontinued as far as I know, but these products eventually always do, especially if I love them. Lol.)

Actually just bought a back up of my nars creamy concealer in Custard. I was going to pick up the new born this way concealer but I read the reviews and it veered me back to Nars.
I brought a second Tom Ford Creme Color shadow in Sphinx. I fell in love with it after buying the first, knew it was limited, and wasn’t sure if they would bring it back like they have Golden Peach.
Laura Mercier smooth finish something or an other. I. Just can read with out my glasses. I like it as much and before my Tarte Rainforest epiphany. I tend to buy one ahead on my UD Perversion mascara in the small size so I don’t waste too. I don’t use anything else except weddings and funerals.
IT cosmetics celebration foundation illumination. i always make sure i have a back-up, just in case.

I try to keep myself from buying back-ups nowadays, because otherwise I’d have two of everything I like (no idea why I am like this haha!). I did buy two of the Halsey lipsticks from a while back though, because I really like the color and the artist.
When YSL discontinued Copper Rose 122 lipstick I bought all I could find, and still have a couple left. When they’re gone will go to Three Custom Color! Always keep a stash of my best lipstick, Laura Mercier Peony just in case it gets discontinued. Also Blush Horizon de Chanel, LE in 2012.
My NYX Slide On Eyeliner in Black Sparkle. I have all the colors, but black sparkle is by far my favorite.
MAC Outre eyeshadow. My last LE item from them. It’s part of my “basic eyeshadow for bold lips” ensemble. I’m still looking for a dupe (Flutes, from ColourPop, is a denser, more saturated version, but not quite a dupe; in reality, I like Flutes better, but I want a true powder version of that color as well).
Revlon Lip Butters!!!!
There’ve been three, but I’m not sure which one was the last one… It’s either MUG Foiled In The Spotlight, or the ABH Self-Made palette, only bc I felt like I NEEDED a backup of Treasure! For me it’s the perfect inner corner highlight.
& In The Spotlight is a great solo lid shade for me when I’m short on time & need that beautiful, simple, shiny, pop of barely there color (N15-20).
& a NYX brow pencil in Ash Brown bc they’re always sold out of that color lol
I usually never buy backups but I’ve been using that Tarte Rainforest of the Sea eyeshadow palette nearly every day in one way or another since I bought it in March. It is so good for travel too, I don’t want to be without it so I recently bought a backup and put it away. I think its supposed to be LE but they should just make it permanent.
