What scents do you enjoy in lip products? Ones you dislike?
I’m good with slightly sweet vanilla and don’t want or need much else. I prefer unscented (though more in the “non-scent” than perhaps truly unscented). I dislike more floral scents, especially if they result in some taste!
I like the vanilla flavors also, and Bite Beauty’s flavor, and that peach-fig kind of flavor in Too-Faced Peach Kiss Comfort Matte, but I hate florals as well, like L’oreal’s lipstick. It’s horrible!
Despite having way too many Bites, those little hits of sweet (stevia? It’s not listed, which also makes me bonkers) make me avoid tasting it. The scents i like do not lend themselves to l/s, so a definite preference for unscented. I can stand slight scent, as long as it dissipates quickly and is not overly artificial…especially the fruity, saccharine-y ones. Muse has featured some that smell like Sanrio erasers recently. Smell has a big nostalgia component.
The TF Peach Perfect POWDER is flavored and scented too, which is always mind-blowing!
I prefer vanilla, chocolate, cake batter, mint, or lemon. I dislike strong chemical/makeup/playdough scents, florals, perfume scents, and cheap artificial grape, orange, and cherry. The worst is low-quality, sickly sweet fake cotton candy scent. It makes me nauseous.
I like vanilla or no scent. I really hate fake chocolate, mint or the rose scent like og L’Oréal lipstick uses. I esp hate whatever Colourpop has put in their lip tint crayons. It’s this gawd awful mix of fruit and floral. Cannot stand it and won’t buy another of those crayon bc I hate it so much lol
Your comment made me go grab my Colourpop lip tint crayon and you’re absolutely right — I was trying so hard to pin down what I didn’t like about the fragrance and it’s that it’s fruity PLUS floral. Ick. However, it still applies and performs great so I guess I’ll use it when I have allergies lol
I’m okay with anything vanilla or cupcake scented, even better if there’s a slight sweet taste to it, but not a fan of berry scented things or minty scented things. Berry things make my throat sore, and I’m not a fan of minty tingle on my lips.
Vanilla! My ultimate love were the original LORAC lipsticks that were around 20 years ago. The ones named after female celebrities like Ashley, Julia, Natural Demi, Samantha, etc. Buttery vanilla! The closest I’ve found to the scent was Jaclyn Hill lipsticks, very unfortunately I got a shade that’s absolutely horrible on me. And, well we know what happened to those lipsticks.
MAC has always been a big love, wonderful scent.
Am I crazy for enjoying scented palettes? Tarte’s smell good. I don’t own any Too Faced palettes.
I dislike L’Oreal lipstick scents.
I’m ok with a faint scent that fades but no taste please. I received a sample from Sephora once and I brought it to work and I put it on and the smell was so horrible I had to take it off, I called them and told them, it was just so nauseating. They gave me some points for my trouble, but they were giving out samples that had gone bad!
I am one of those people that loves for makeup to have a strong scent so much so that I actively seek out perfume that’s based on makeup scents (IE Guerlain’s Meteroites scent that you can buy as a perfume, Margelia’s Lipstick On, etc). I adore the scent of Chanel and L’Oreal lipsticks, and when my cousin and I went to the Bite Lip Lab one of the things I was most jazzed for was adding a scent/flavor to my lipstick. I like when the sensory experience is enhanced, I guess.
Either vanilla like MAC or citrus like Bite. Wouldn’t mind other slightly fruity scents, but I don’t want them to have a flavor as that inevitably ends up having, you guessed it, sodium saccharine in the formula. UD is guilty of this with their relatively new lipgloss formula, As for those strongly perfumed “old lady” scents, uh, no bueno.
If it was by me, all makeup and skincare would be unscented, or at least come in both scented and unscented options.
For lipstick I don’t mind the sweet vanilla hint some products have (like MAC). For lip balms definitely no scent at all for me.
Anything too fruity or floral is a no go for me. I mean… lips are constantly under my nose ? I don’t want to smell the scent of a lipstick constantly.
I prefer no scent. First of all, my skin is very sensitive, second I just don’t like it. But absolute nonos are coconut and mint. Brrrrr.
I hate obviously fake/perfumed cosmetic smells. If the scent is a natural consequence of what they use in the product, and the product is non-toxic & dissipates fast (like Bite lipsticks, RIP) then I’m fine w/it. Chanel lipsticks used to smell and taste like nauseatingly heavy perfume. Never understood how they sold any.
Lanolin! I know it’s good for the skin, but I cannot have it that close to my nose.
Vanilla, lemon or mint are usually my faves. Something like Bite Beauty is okay. The only fruity one I like is the peach from TooFaced, every now and then the fruity Burts Bees are fine. Simply CANNOT stand floral of any kind!
I dislike bitter/sour cherry in general.
I’m fine with unscented “ingredient smell,” but I do enjoy the standard vanilla, mint, fruits, and assorted sweet scents. Not as big a fan of some citrus or cinnamon, although I’ll tolerate them. Can’t stand floral/soapy or coconut.
Likes: MAC lipstick/lipglass, Fenty Gloss Bomb, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (if they smelled any sweeter it’d be too much, though), Jack Black lip balms (mint and shea—the latter smells like vanilla cake to me)
Meh: Sugarpill lipsticks, plumping glosses, ~nothing at all!~
Dislike: Fresh Sugar lip balm
Hate: Essence Shine Shine Shine (it’s like a waxy, flowery-yet-berry Lip Smacker and it’s gross)
I loathe unscented lip products, where I can smell or taste the chemicals and oils in the item. I also detest floral or herbal scents, grape scent, and spiced scents. Also ANY scent that leans soapy/bitter, even if it’s one I’d usually like.
My favourite scents in lip products are (looking at my current pile) strawberry, vanilla, (realistic) chocolate, honey, and apple (and currently using a berry/slightly citrus scented product that I can’t place but it smells like Sweet Tarts).
Whatever scent it is, if there is one, it needs to fade fast. That’s pretty much my only requirement!
I hate flavors like vanilla, mint, cake batter or cinnamon in my lip products. A few years ago I ordered two Tarte lipsticks that were unfortunately mint-flavored; I was so disappointed. They were unusable.
