What order do you apply your makeup in?
What order do you apply your makeup in? What do you do first? Last? Why?
Eyes, foundation, cheeks, setting powder, lips. I do eyes first, so I can blend out any fall out/harsh edges once I apply my foundation. I do cheeks on top of foundation so that the blush has something to adhere to. I do lips after setting powder, since I don’t want any loose powder in my lipgloss!

1) concealer, 2) foundation, 3) powder
4) eyes, 5) cheeks, 6) lips
Primer, foundation, powder to set, blush, eye primer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, brows, highlighter, lipstick ,lipgloss (:
Face, cheeks, eyes and then lips.
I do face first, concealer, powder, then eyes and cheeks. Then comes lips and finally I do mascara. I feel like the end result looks better as a presentation, like I’m building up or something 😛
primer, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, eyes, lips. but if im doing a really dramatic look with a lot of fall out, then i will do my eyes first
Eyes
Under eye concealer
face concealer
Foundation, which is just my MSF natural for summer
Blush
Lips
i start with base (concealer, foundation, concealer = i have MAJOR dark circles), always.
if i’m doing one of my go-to looks, then the next steps are always: eyes, cheeks, then lips.
however, if there’s a specific product i want to use, that product goes on first and i base the rest of my look on that one product. after i apply that specific product, the rest get slapped on in the order above.
i.e. if i apply a specific blush, i follow with eyes then lips. if i apply a specific lip, i follow with eyes then cheeks.
…can you tell i’m kinda ocd? :p
Concealer, powder foundation, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara then lips.
moisturizer, primer, concealer, foundation, setting powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lip balm. done!
Mine is the same as your Christine! I do eye first incase of fall out and the rest is a natural progression
On YT and clients: Lip balm, eyes, foundation, concealer, mascara, bronzer, blush, highlighter, powder, lips!
On me: Foundation, concealer, bronzer, highlighter, powder, lip balm!
concealer, eyes, foundation, powder, blush, lips!
First I apply eye primer, then face primer. This gives the eye primer time to dry so after I apply the face primer I can go do my eye makeup, but not mascara quite yet. Don’t want to get any stray powder of finished lashes! After the eye makeup comes foundation, (or just spot concealing, if it’s too hot) then I apply concealer. The next step is setting powder, then blush and bronzer. Finally I curl my lashes, put on mascara and fill in my brows. The finishing touch is lipstick or gloss. It’s the last step because colored lip products, I feel, can either pull together an entire look or put it over the top. So it’s last so if I feel its too much I don’t have to mess with anything else and just wipe it off and slick on some chapstick. 🙂
Mine is kinda crazy…
First I do my eyebrows, eyes-all but mascara and lower lashline, otherwise anything on my lower lashline melts off and lashes…no reason- then primer, foundation and concealer, blush, powder, lowerlashline, mascara, lips.
1)Concealer 2)Foundation 3)Concealer again 4)Cheeks 5)eyes 6)lips
primer, concealer, foundation, bronzer/contour, blush, brows, highlight (around eyes & mouth), eyes
Foundation, concealer, powder, eyes, cheeks and finally lips 🙂
foundation, powder, cheeks, brows, eyes, fallout cleanup, lips 🙂
Primer, Foundation, Highlighter (cheeks), Eyeliner, Mascara, Lipstick, Lipgloss!
concealer , powder , fix + , eye primer , eyeshadow , blush , skinfinish , eyeliner , mascara
foundation, powder, blush, eyes, brows, lips.
I usually do eyes first just when I use dark or shimmer colours because I can’t stand the fall out 😉
1. felt tip liner 2. concealer and powder 3. mascara 4. blush 5. highlight 6. lips (weird, i know, i just always start with Penultimate liner)
I do:
1. Foundation, Concealer, Setting Powder
2. Eyes
3. Eyebrows, Mascara
4. Cheeks
5. Lips
I use a brush to put my moisturizer on then the same brush to put foundation on right after. I like sheer coverage but am very picky about my moisturizer so tinted products just don’t work. Next is concealer ( and powder just under the eyes) followed by my eyes makeup. the powder makes it easy to take care fall out) Powder goes on next since at this point the foundation will have set and the powder will not stick but just dust. Then any blush or bronzer and last is lips.
1 primer
2 foundation
3 setting powder
4 blush
5 eye primer
6 eye shadow
7 eye liner
8 mascara
9 lipstick/lipgloss
I like to have the face done before the eyes and lips- it’s like prepping the canvas!
concealer – foundation – powder – eyes – cheeks – lips
1) eye shadow primer 2) concealer 3) foundation 4) setting powder 5) eyes 6) cheeks 7) lips
I do mine in the exact same order! It just makes more sense to me to do eyes first, not only so I can fix any mistakes/fallout, but also because I don’t want to smudge my foundation from having my hand against my face doing my eye makeup.
Most people don’t seem to think the same though 😛
Foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, eyes, brows and lips.
Sometimes I do last blush, but only when I wear dramatic eyes, in order to put the exact amount of blush (if not, I’ll probably go overdone ¬¬)
Eyes,Foundation,Cheeks, Eyebrows, Setting, Lips
Sorry if the typing is funny I’m commenting on my phone and it’s hard to see. 🙂
1. eyebrows
2. top eyelid makeup
3. concealer and powder (under the eyes)
4. rest of eye makeup (lower lid portion)
5. concealer on the face
6. powder or cream blush
7. powder blush or powder
8. lipstick
9. set lipstick with powder
primer
foundation
powder
blush
eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara
lipstick
Since I don’t really use foundation, I just checked it out. Kinda roughly what I do in sequence:
Eye primer, primer, loose powder on undereyes (to catch later eyeshadow fallout for easy sweeping away with), eyeshadow, eyeliner, brows, concealer, all over loose powder, blush, mascara.
after a meal, i do my lips. moisturise, prime, lipstick, gloss.
Eyeshadow, foundation, blush, powder, mascara, eyeliner, lips. I usually separate out the lash primer/mascara/eyeliner steps to give the product time to dry in between coats, so that I’m not smudging eyeliner when I open my eyes to apply mascara, or anything.
1-Concealer
2-foundation(sometimes I skip it )
3-Powder
4-Eyes
5-Bronzer and Blusher
6-Lips
I generally do face, eyes, cleanup with concealer under the eye, cheeks, powder, and lips. But if I’m doing a dark look, then I leave face till much later.
We have the same routine, Christine.
primer, concealer,foundation, powder
eyes, cheeks, lips
Primer – Foundation – Concealer – set very lightly with HD powder – eyes – set whole face with mineralize skin finish – cheeks – highlighter – lips and then a spritz of evian water or studio fix
1. foundation/powder
2. concealer.. to cover up the dark circles under my eyes and the red spots that the foundation/powder didn’t cover.
3. eyebrows
4. eyes
5. blush/bronzer/highlighter.. after i’ve done all the steps before i decide how much stuff is necessary on the cheeks!
(i don’t wear anything on my lips normally..)
Primer, foundation, powder, cheek highlight, blush, brows, eye primer, eyeliner, eyeshadow, liquid eyeliner, highlighter (brows and tear duct), lips and at last mascara.
1.Brows
2.Eyes
3.Concealer
4.Powder
5.Blush/bronzing powder
6.Lipgloss
1. Concealer
2. Foundation
3. Eyeshadow/liner/mascara
4. Blush
5. Lipstick
Serum
Foundation
Concealer (just a bit on spots)
Eye primer
Eye makeup
Powder
Bronzer/blusher
Mascara (so the loose powder won’t stick to my mascara)
Lips last
Toner, moisturizer, concealer, foundation, eyebrows, eyes, powder, blush, mascara and lips
Eyes first so I can clean up fallout, and my inevitable mascara mishaps, I am so clumsy with those big ol’ brushes! LOL. Then concealer, powder foundation to set the concealer, blush, lip conditioner, lipstick, also because I don’t want lipstick all over my powder brush, and don’t want powder on top of my lipstick and finally Fix + to set the blush and the whole look.
primer, foundation, loose powder, brow, eyes, blush/bronzer, lips.
foundation, eyes, blush, powder (and then lips if I do anything, but I rarely do)
face primer, concealer, foundation, blush. eye primer eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, then brows 🙂
Sunscreen, face primer, concealor, foundation, powder, eye primer, eyes, brows, cheeks, lips.
Currently (summer): Sunscreen, primer, foundation, concealer, powder to set. Then brows, eyes, cheeks, power (again). Finally, mascara and lips.
when i wear make-up:
1- primer, 2- foundation, 3- blush, 4- highlighter (if not already in the blush), 5- eyes (some-times- when I’m bothered), 6- mascara and 7- lipgloss
btw, your blog is excellent! xx
If I’m wearing foundation and/or concealer it usually goes on first. After that it’s eyes, cheeks & lips last.
concealer, foundation, eyes, powder, cheeks, lips, mascara
Primer, foundation, concealer, powder, eyes, brows, contouring, blush, lips.
Concealer, Foundation, bronzer, (maybe blush), eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara
Mascara
Brows
eyebase
concealer
foundation
blush
powder
Primer, foundation, concealer, powder, contour, blush, eyes, lips.
It sounds like a lot, but I keep my makeup looking as natural as possible!
Foundation, concealer, powder, eyes, cheeks, lips.
I know lots of people do eyes first, but I can’t seem to visualize the finished look without having a flawless face to start with. Also, I always use tissue to catch any fallout so it’s never a problem for me.
face, cheeks, eyes, lips
I do primer, concealer, powder/foundation or tinted moisturizer, and then powder to set if I used a liquid. Then eye shadow, liner, mascara followed by blush and lips last.
Awesome! This was my question, thanks Christine!
For me its: Concealer, foundation, powder, blush, eyes, and lips last.
Pretty much the same as you Christine. It makes sense. 🙂
NORMALLY – concealer, foundation, setting powder, eyes, brows, blush/bronzer, lips
BUT if I know there’s going to be a lot of messy fall outs, then eyes first before concealer/foundation
Foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, hightlight, and eyes
Face primer/make up base, then eyes, foundation, concealer, blush and finally lips
Concealer, eyes, face, cheeks, eyebrows, lips/
Under eye concealer
Foundation
Spot conceal if necessary
Bronzer
Blush
Powder
Eye primer
Eye shadows
Liquid liner
Eyebrows
Mascara
&& Lips
I try to stay away from everyday foundation, but if I am wearing it then I do my concealer first, then foundation, then prime my eyes then do them. Then I’d do highlight then mascara, and I usually don’t wear anything on the lips.
I typically do concealer, foundation, eyes, cheeks, powder, lips.
I apply my moisturizer first, all over and let it sink in. I then apply eye shadow primer, and then do my eye shadow and liner. Then I do my foundation. Next I do my brows. Then I do my cheeks. Then I do my mascara. Last I do my lips.
Specifically I do my eye shadows before foundation so I can clean up any fall out. I do my mascara after my foundation in case any falls onto my lashes by accident.
eyes, primer(s), concealer, foundation, powders, brows and then lips.
i’m the same as you. i do eyes first mostly because if i’m in a rush and have to leave, that’s what is important that i have done. than concealer and powder. cheeks and bronzer. lastly lips.
tinted moistuerizer
cheek and lip stain (benifit posietint)
powder (if i need more coverage)
brows
eyes
lips
Eyes, foundation, concealer, setting powder, eyebrows, cheeks, setting powder (translucent, over the cheeks!), lips. :]
Concealer, foundation, eye makeup, cheeks, then lips.
Pretty much the same as you do. Eyes, face, cheeks, lips.
Concealer > eyes > foundation > blush> lipstick > mascara
foundation/concealor, powder, eyes, cheeks, lips
Matte creme, corrector, concealer, foundation, highlighter, powder, eyes, cheeks and lips.
Mine is kind of weird 🙂 I start with foundation on my forehead and then do brows, then eye primer and setting powder on forehead and eyelids. Then eyeshadows & eyeliner, then the rest of foundation and setting powder. Then blush, mascara and highlighter/shimmer. Then i blend all with a kabuki brush and finally put on lipstick or gloss.
I’m not insane, my mother had me tested 🙂
Undereye concealer, foundation, blush, concealer, eyes, lips. I don’t use a setting powder because a) my skin tends to be dry, and b) I use a Revlon Colorstay foundation.
My routine is – Face: foundation/tinted moisturizer, concealer, powder. Eyes: eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara. Then I use blush/bronzer, and last is lips!
I apply moisturizer, primer, UDPP, foundation, blush, powder, eyeshadow, lipstick or lipgloss.
1. Prime Face
2. Foundation
3. Concealer
4. Cream Blush
5. Eye Makeup
6. Set Foundation
7. Powder Blush
8. Highlighter
9. Mascara
10. Lips
It depends on what i am doing with my makeup that day… if I do a dark eye then i start with my shadow then my foundation, concealer, powder, blush, and so on… if my makeup isn’t going to have much fall down, then i do my foundation and concealer… i always leave powder for last though that way if i mess up it is easier to blend my misstake away.
I firstly apply foundation, just because it’s the most important thing for me, and when I’m late, I prefer to take care of the uniformity/beauty of my skin in case of a lake of time!
Then I make up my eyes, cheeks and finally my lips (I think everybody finishes with lips)
Foundation, concealer, highlighter (liquid), powder, brows, eye primer, some transparent powder under the eyes for the fall outs, eyeshadow, cheeks (contour, color, highlight), mascara, lips 🙂
Eyeshadow, eyeliner, undereye concealer, foundation, concealer, setting powder, bronzer, blusher, mascara and lip balm. 🙂
Gosh, it sounds like so much when you write it down, doesn’t it?
I start with moisturizer, wait 5-10 minutes while I get dressed, then do eye primer and face primer. Since the eye primer dries faster, I then put on eyeshadow base (usually MAC paint in bare canvas). Most of the time on weekdays I don’t wear any other shadow on my lids because I feel the primer and paint give me a bright-eyed look on their own. Then I load on the mascara on top and bottom lashes (L’Oreal Voluminous). I then apply Revlon Colorstay foundation (and MUFE Full Cover concealer if I’m using it). I then do bronzer/blush duo (NARS), followed by setting powder (MUFE HD), followed by lip balm (Smith’s Rosebud in one of the flavors) and gloss if I feel like it (MUFE, MAC or NARS)! Phew!
primer, foundation, concealer, eyelid primer, eyeshadow, liner, blush, SPF powder, Fix+, mascara, lipstick
I always do my face first, then brows, then eyes, then lips. If I have time after that I’ll do my cheeks– usually just a contour and highlight, sometimes blush if I’m in the mood for it.
It depends if it is an everyday/work/neutral type look in which case I do:
Foundation, concealer, powder, eyeshadow, mascara, blush, lips
If it is a going out look where I know I will get fallout, I do:
Eyeshadow, primer, foundation, concealer, powder, eyeliner, mascara, highlighting, contouring, blush, lips
1. moisturizer/SPF
2. eye concealer
3. eye shadow/liner (for everyday/office I only use pearly white liner on lower waterline)
4. loose setting powder
5. mascara
6. lips
Primer, concealer, foundation, powder(sometimes), hd/settingpowder, eye primer, eyeshadow if any, liner, curl lashes, mascara, lips if any.
Eyeshadow liner mascara foundation setting powder and last lipstick and lipgloss
1. foundation 2.concealer 3. powder 4. cheeks 5. eyes 6. lips
I can never do eyes first, I always feel like my loose powder is going to ruin the darkness of my mascara!
i apply mine from the “bottom up” if that makes sense – base first then everything on top. this is my routine:
primer > foundation/concealer > powder > blush/contour > eyeshadow > brows > liner/mascara. and i leave my lips bare 🙂
moisturizer/primer prime my lips , foundation powder to set , concealer , eyebrows , eyeprimer , eyeshadow , eyeliner , masccara , blush / bronzer lips with either lipstick or gloss
(1) eyes, incl. primer
(2) foundation, incl. concealer
(3) blush
(4) lips
1) foundation (liquid)
2) concealer (1st blemishes, then undereyes)
3) cream blush if I’m wearing it
4) translucent loose powder
5) powder bronzer/blush/highlighter
6) brows
7) eyes
8) lips
First I do face – primer, foundation/bb cream, concealer
Second eyes – primer, brows, eyeshadow and liner
Third face – blush, contour/highlight, powder
Forth lips – usually a lip conditioner, lipstick and gloss
Lastly I like to finish with curling my lashes and mascara to pull everything together!
To be honest I’ve never thought of the order that I apply my makeup in. Its really quite interesting how it varies from person to person!
Face primer, concealer(if I’m using studio fix concealer), foundation, eye primer, eye, face, lips
okay i do my concealer first, then my powder (i dont use liquid foundation) then i use my bronzer/blush. then i do my primer, then my waterline and tight line, and then i do my eyeshadow, and then my mascara and/or upper lash line, and then i use my eyebrow gel. oh and then lipgloss. hahaa 🙂
