What one beauty product would you recommend someone to splurge on?
What one beauty product would you recommend someone to splurge on? What do you think is totally worth the splurge?
Guerlain Rouge G.
Thanks to Kristin for today’s question! Got a question idea? Submit yours here.
i would say the clarisonic but since i already own it, i would LOVE to purchase the guerlain rouge g. in fact that is next on my list, i tried it at the store and i think it’s both great on my lips and eye candy for my eyes.
That’s easy – UD Naked Palette. It isn’t exactly a splurge since it’s an amazing deal, but still quite a bit of money!
I completely agree! I highly recommend the UD Naked Palette.
I agree with the UD palette…. it seems expensive but it’s such a steal. I’d also recommend YSL’s Rouge Volupte lipsticks.
nars blushes
I totally agree! =)
a good eye cream. as early as possible. you won’t regret it.
Amen to that.
Skincare. Make up stuff only cover up temporarily. But skincare can potentially improve your complexion. Then you don’t need to spend so much on makeup.
I absolutely agree. That’s my no. 1 rule 🙂
I agree! I spend more money on skincare than make-up…although I do love lip gloss and my nail polish collection is growing suddenly!
I would totally splurge on a really good foundation. Everything else I could live with coming from the drugstore.
I have 2 that I have recommended they really aren’t splurges yet if on a budget they are…Make up Forever HD Foundation and the Makeup Forever HD translucent powder.
a good foundation!
The Naked Palette! Best palette ever!!!!
foundation, in general, is something i would encourage people to splurge on. i’ve been able to find fantastic quality eyeshadows, eyeliners, and lipsticks from drugstore brands but the same can’t be said for foundation.
NARS blushes & eyeshadows and Murad skincare products.
Easy question for me, Guerlain Rouge G lipsticks, they are the best.
Georgio Armani Lasting Silk Foundation… has all the luminosity of the Lasting Silk foundation with an amazing semi-matte finish, never makes me break out and blends so easily! Lasts all day! I’m obsessed!
i second that!
A high end/department store foundation that matches your skin perfectly.
Dior Lipglow and Clé de Peau concealer. Worth every cent.
Foundation.
A Really good foundation. No particular brand. But investing in the best foundation you could aford makes a big difference to your total make-up look.
I second this.
I feel like everyone needs one really fabulous and expensive lipstick that comes in a really beautiful case. But other than that, perfume seems to be worth the extra cash more than makeup. 😉
Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick! 🙂
FOUNDATION
I can’t name just one product, because everyone is so different, but I’d say that once you find a “holy grail” foundation, go ahead and splurge on it.
Skincare hands down. Makeup just looks better on skin thats been taken care of. (Acne and scarring aside)
guerlain powder compact foundation 68$CAN, and their 360degrees mascara in waterproof 38$CAN 😀
One expensive skincare product worth getting is Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum. This stuff does wonders, if my skin looks dull and blah and is starting to break out, this always does miracles and saves me overnight.
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbricks! They give the most beautiful glow.
I don’t know if hair products count, but if they do, then a great flat iron! Ceramic ones won’t burn your hair and they’ll get the job done faster. Personally, I love my GHD IV Styler 🙂
Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in “Dragon”.
It’s pricey for 1 single lipstick and absolutely the most PERFECT red ever made.
Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer!
Does Dior powder count? I haven’t tried a lot of loose powders, but the Dior one seems nice and my skin feels really soft and smooth after applying it.
It has got to be Chanel blushes and lipsticks!
You should definately splurge on a really good professional brush set…
YSL touch eclat!!! or chanel foundation
cle de peau concealer , it worth the investment if u want the perfect concealer
Guerlain Le 2 Mascara. Fantastic if you have short, sparse lashes like mine. Love it!
I’d also say generally Guerlain products because they are all fantastic!
clinique eyeshadow 303 lucky penny, is a pinkbrown tone, thats applied on brown eyes they become very attractive.
try it ! if you have brown eyes…a very good effects !!!!
La Prairie 3 minute peel and their resurfacing cream, and this new serum by Keraskin Esthetics called Pure 195. Keraskin is made by the Kerastase people which should be L’Oreal, but it’s supposed to good and it’s cheaper than La Prairie’s things.
I have the La Prairie 3 min peel and got a sample of the resurfacing cream – combined together, it really works! La Prairie is one of the priciest skin care brands but some of the items are worth it.
skin care or foundation!
MASCARA! I can’t live without it. Mascara can definitely make or break your look, might as well splurge 🙂
dior lip polish smoothing lacquer and diorskin nude foundation
Shiseido Future Solutions cream….it’s over $200 so it’s a REAL splurge, but it smells heavenly and it works wonders, especially as a night cream. I’ve had one pot last me a LONG time, too, so it comes out less than a dollar a day anyway. 🙂
chanel nail polish. i know what people say but i love the colours and the application so they’re a must have for me
NARS Blushes
YSL Lipsticks!!
Burberry eyeshadows – you get more product then a Chanel or MAC so, in my mind at least – it’s not AS expansive. They’re just so smooth, great neutral colors.
Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment
Chanel rouge allure laques! I also think that Chanel polishes are worth it for the amazing formula.
Oops, that was two! If I had to pick ONE it would be the laques.
completely agree! Love laques!
Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick
A Chanel Glossimer
skincare like dermalogicas line of cleansers, moisturiszers, serums, exfoliants, masques etc etc etc
I would say to splurge on Foundation. It is something that can make or break your face. It is the basis on which the rest of your makeup will be judged upon!
LUSH perfumes
I would recommend buying Eve Pearls salmon concealer I love how creamy they feel and coverup.
Urban decay naked palette! And ysl rouge voluptes…
Cosmetics – Cle de Peau Extra Silky Lipstick… these are the ULTIMATE!
Skincare – La Prairie Cellular Resurfacing Cream. This transformed my acne prone/sun damaged/combination skin… you actually do see results overnight!
GHD flat irons. They cause the least damage to the ends and leave hair smooth. I use mine to straighten, curl, and make waves.
I would recommed benefit high beam and nars blushes!
I would suggest splurging on…
Lancome Oscillation mascara–got compliments everyday including “are those real?” so often it got annoying!
Definitely foundation and a quality brush to apply it. Finding good stuff has made all the difference in the world to my complexion.
That and Chanel Dragon. ^_~
MAC Prep+Prime Transparent Finishing Powder. Not really a splurge and it seems like such a redundant product but it works wonders under powder foundation and over all other foundations.
Ling Skincare Instant Oxygen Recovery Mask for sure! I just recommended it to a co-worker actually. 🙂
great question…Id say the clarisonic….its so amazing to see how well it cleans your skin and how great your skin will look in a week!
Clarisonic Skincare
a good quality foundation and/or a proper eye primer/concealer. it’s no fun using foundation on the eyes and having it run later causing eye irritation and a spoiled make up look!
Mmm, a great foundation and Dior Amber (or Rose) Diamond.
Are you essentially paying $46 for shimmery powder? Yes.
Is there anything quite like it? No.
Your perfect foundation, for sure! While you COULD splurge on skincare, I have had a lot of luck with natural products such as grapeseed oil and lemon juice. To be honest, I think as natural and as few chemicals as possible is my skincare preference.
The Clarisonic, Cle De Peau concealer and Guerlain lipsticks. These products are really expensive but you really get what you pay for and more.
A good foundation, I’m still currently in love with NARS sheer glow. The canvas is the most important part imo.
I’d say splurge on lipstick (because it’s my favorite makeup item) and invest in good skincare items (so you don’t have to splurge on foundation).
It’s certainly not what you need to splurge on, but I’m always on the lookout for affordable ways to get hold of lux palettes or face powder compacts. Something cute to take with you on a night out versus something that just sits in your makeup drawer and nobody sees I like to try to go for something that has nice, conversation starting packaging.
This may sound too general, but I’d say that you should splurge on any product that is a staple for you. I wear black mascara every day or no makeup at all. I’ve tried a lot of different brands and formulas but for the last 3 years Chanel Inimitable has been the best by a long shot. $30 for something I throw away every 2-3 months would make some cringe, but I truly believe it’s worth every penny.
MAC’s Mattifying Lotion. It is a wonderful moisturizer that help the face stay matte during the day.
Hi Christine, I have a question, what brushes would you recommend for someone who is just starting to get serious about makeup?
Thank you! And love your blog.
For face or eyes?
Smashbox Halo foundation
Chanel Rouge Allure Laques!
UD naked pallett
The VitaLumiere foundation. No other “moisturizing” formula that I’ve tried looks as good on my dry skin as this. It’s so super dewy, yet still gives great coverage.
Moisturizer, eye cream and foundation.
The clarisonic. Oh, and skin care. I don’t understand why people wouldn’t be willing to pay extra for good skin care.
Good skincare absolutely.
You can buy the best and most beautiful makeup out there but if you don’t take good care of your skin, it will never look like it should.
Another splurge is a good foundation.
It’s the base of the rest of your makeup so why not invest in a good quality foundation that makes your skin look flawless?
Skin care, Foundation & Cle De Peau concealer! (For special occasions. A little bit goes a long way. Great coverage and does not settle into fine lines)
its worth it
