What is your go-to foundation and concealer combination right now?
I really dig Fenty’s Pro Filt’r or Huda Beauty’s #FauxFilter with either NARS Soft Matte or Tarte Shape Tape.

Kind of flipping between Too Faced Peach foundation in Natural Beige (it’s got a fantastic finish but is a TOUCH pale so I usually have to blend in some Tarte Maracuja Bronzing Oil – sadly the next shade up is a bit of an undertone mismatch, and the one after that matches my undertone but is too dark… sigh) and Tarte Empowered Gel-Cream in Medium Honey w/just a touch of Light-Medium Honey blended in. Someday I’ll find an actual one-stop shade match, but for now those two are my absolute favorite formulas so I’m willing to do a bit of mixing. My main priority is that they don’t break me out, don’t crease/settle/emphasize pores, and most importantly – they feel weightless.
For concealer, NARS Soft Matte Concealer for undereyes/blemishes, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer for any brow shaping. Both in Ginger. Tarte Shape Tape in Light-Medium Honey for days when my undereye circles are really bad/if I’m sick and I need the thicker coverage + brightening effect of a paler concealer.
/lots more words than you probably expected
It’s fit me from maybelline or face and body from mac with la girl pro concealer and kiko skin concealer.
I keep coming back to Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place foundation with MAC Pro Longwear Concealer.
Mature skin and Fenty? Any anecdotal?
Huda fauxfilter is complete fail for me. I’ve experimented, but makes me look like death after a couple of hours of wear. It starts out ok, but then makes my skin look sucked in.. too matte, too drying.
Estee Lauder Double Wear with shapetape and NARS soft matte is my go-to combo. I usually mix in a bit of a shimmer product; either Cover FX custom enhancer in Celestial or The Ordinary coverage foundation in 1.0 NS which I also use as a lightener for other foundations. Kat Von Lock it is another regular choice, but shades with good undertones need to be lightened. I prefer the EL overall, but it does require careful prep for winter use. Summer, this foundation is about as good as it gets for me so far. If I am just slapping on a bit of cover, I reach for IT cosmetics MSBB CC illuminating. Undertones not perfect by any means, but it’s a good fast casual base for me.
If I could get it, it would be Dior Forever foundation. No one has any of the lighter shades (I’ve called 2 Sephora stores and even though they have the sample bottles, they don’t have the product available for sale except in the darker shades) and the same is true of The Bay. I don’t know if it’s some sort of testing or reformulating issue with the lighter shades but no one has any of the lighter colours, including #14 and 15, which are the colours I would need. Concealer – I’m back to using the Clarins one in the squeeze tube – Instant Concealer – and I’m using it with the sample containers I have of the Dior foundation. I just hope that stuff arrives SOON at one of my retailers (and what’s doubly odd is that even though it IS carried at Sephora in Canada, though in limited shades, on their website, when I click on it, I get the message that this product is not sold in my country!
I’m mostly using NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (on blemishes) or Tarte Shape Tape (under eyes) with LORAC POREfection Baked Perfection Powder. I have oily skin and tend to go for powder foundations. I love that this LORAC one has salicylic acid.
Too Faced Peach Perfect foundation with Essence concealer or Tarte Shape Tape.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation and the matching Aquacealer or Tarte Shape Tape 🙂
I’m loving Doll 10 Hydragel Foundation (stick) and concealer.
Covergirl 3-2-1 Gorgeous (shade 105) paired with Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Fair.
Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion foundation with three different concealers: Tarte Shape Tape under the eyes, and two different shades of MAC Pro Longwear concealer elsewhere.
I switch between Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk and Wet n Wild Photofocus. Like, I’m so into Photofocus right now. I think it’s my drugstore holy grail.
Concealer is Shape Tape but I’m not married to it. It’s hard to find my holy grail concealer! I feel like I’ve tried them all!
Photofocus is my favorite drugstore foundation!! I have 4 different shades I got with a coupon when they first came out at Rite Aid.It really is a fabulous foundation?
I love it so much, it really does look incredible in photos! I can’t stand the scent but if the brand is keeping fragrances out to keep the price tag low then I’ll put up with it for the one or two minutes before it dissipates.
I have two shades and I don’t know why, when the darker of the two is quite literally my perfect match. The lighter one is still unopened, I think I’ll donate it to a woman’s shelter.
Lately I’ve been using a mix of the Urban Decay One and Done with the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Fond de Teint gel for foundation. For concealer, the Maybelline Better Skin concealer for around my nose and other parts of my face with Tarte Shape Tape under my eyes.
I’m happy to say…None.
Haven’t put a drop of foundation or concealer in my face since summer 2017.
Spending more money on skincare and very happy with the results.
I’m always changing up my foundation routine, but for foundation I usually use either A) my Bare Minerals foundation, followed by BE Warmth all over color, or B) Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. For Concealer, I use Shape Tape, but I honestly prefer the Maybelline Fit Me concealer. I find Shape Tape to be heavy for my 40+ skin.
I do also like the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless. I need to fit it into my foundation routine.
I started using Shape Tape and felt the same way. I am 53. Then, I read a review that said it dries quickly. I had been using Nars creamy and It Bye Bye, both which have a lot of play time.
Try the Shape Tape again doing about a 3″ x 3″ area at a time. I am using it for my whole face. No creasing but I hated it at first..
I’m 49 and the Shape Tape is the only thing that works under my eyes but…I have to use a LOT less than what you would see a YouTuber using. I touch the tip of the doe foot to my undereye area 3 times (3 dots). No sweeping it on with the actual doe foot.
Longtime go-tos: Lancome Teint Idole Ultra and Bobbi Brown corrector and concealor.
Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder and Bobbi Brown Skin Finish also in regular rotation.
I only ever have 1 foundation at a time because otherwise they’d go bad before I finished them. Right now I’m using Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation in Porcelain. I really like it but even with primer it gets a little flaky around my nose and between my brows after 4-ish hours. Once it’s out I think I’m going to go back to using CC cream, I’m thinking about trying IT Your Skin But Better or the Super Smart Skin Perfecting Beauty Fluid.
I don’t use concealer because I have yet to find one that doesn’t look flaky/cakey.
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water SPF 30 in fair/light is perfect shade for and it doesn’t oxidize nearly as quickly as its MAC counterpart. It’s on sheer side so If I need a touch more coverage I’ll mix in Guerlain Lingerie de Peau old formula in N01.
With Cle de Peau concealer in ivory for general use, NARS soft matte in Chantilly for spot concealing.
For reference, I’m ~NC10-ish, oily/normal in summer and dry/normal in winter.
Tom Ford Traceless Foundation in Pale Dune is my current everyday foundation. Our weather has been vacillating between hot and cold and this foundation works well on my über dry, sensitive, mature (old!) skin no matter what the weather is like. I don’t really like concealers for a number of reasons and very seldom use one. Occasionally, though, I have a blemish that needs more attention than a bit of extra foundation can provide. On those rare occasions, I like Kat Von D’s Lock-It Concealer Crème in L11 Neutral. It is creamy and buildable so it doesn’t look caky and, once it’s set with a finishing powder, it doesn’t budge!
I skip concealer most of the time, as I don’t really need it, and it’s difficult to find one pale enough for brightening.
For foundation, I’ve been switching between Almay Best Blend Forever in Porcelain & L’Oreal True Match Lumi in W1-2. I do really like the Almay, but I’m just trying to finish up the L’Oreal, which is a great foundation formula, but the shade isn’t quite right.
As you all know my favorite foundation is Chosungah 22 Luminous Light Blend in the shade O1 Porcelain. I am sure you have all gotten tired of seeing me write that response. It is still my HG foundation. For days that I don’t want to apply a full face of makeup and yet feel like I need something to go out in public, I have been using the Dr. Jart BB in light/fair. It actually works pretty well in lightening the areas of hyperpigmentation that I have on my cheeks. As for concealer, I have been using Tarte Shape Tape ever since it was released. I just started my second tube. I have been using it differently lately. The Chosungah foundation comes in a spherical container that has two holes on the top. When you twist the lid one way you get the foundation and when you twist the other you get the “blend” portion which is a honey based product. After I have applied my foundation I take the smallest amount of the Tarte Shape Tape, mix it with the foundation residue on the palette and use that to conceal. It seems to be working well for me. Nothing really covers the hyperpigmentation but with this combo no one notices it except myself.
For winter, I’m using Lancôme Teint Idole 24H foundation with a little bit of MAC Strobe Cream mixed in a 4:1 ratio. And then Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Medium because it is a little lighter than my foundation, so it lights up my undereye area. Yet it also works perfectly for covering any areas of eczema or redness without lightening those spots.
In warmer weather, I am crazy about Fenty ProFilt’r Foundation!
I’m somebody who rotates between foundations a lot, but I’ve been using the MUFE Ultra HD Liquid in 215 and the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light in 1.0 pretty steadily for the last few weeks (actually for the last year or more for the MUFE!). In terms of concealer, I rarely use it and just put my foundation up to under my eyes instead. I’d rather have a hint of darkness come through than have my lines emphasized, but if I must use concealer, I usually use Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser concealer.
Most days I wear e.l.f. Flawless Finish Foundation in Porcelain (using it up, as the newer Light Ivory is an even better match). I don’t wear concealer very often. If I need to cover a zit, it’s Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer in Bavarian Cream. If I need to conceal dark undereye circles fron lack of sleep, it’s e.l.f. HD Concealer in Brightening (discntinued; not sure what I’m going to find to replace it with).
Your go to’s are my go to’s also Christine!!!I like to throw Becca Aqua Luminous Concealer, the Urban Decay All-Nighter Concealer, or the Kylie Cosmetics Skin Concealer to the mix also!!I normally use Fenty on my T-zone and Huda everywhere else and either the Tarte Shape Tape, Nars Soft Matte Complete, or the UD All-Nighter and Kylie or Becca right under the lash line because they are dewier!
MAC Prolongwear concealer has been my go to for YEARS.
For foundation, I either use The Ordinary’s Full Coverage foundation, L’Oreal True Match, or Too Faced’s BB Cream!
I’ve been using Lancome’s Teint Idole Stick foundation a lot with MUFE Camouflage concealer. I find it to be so fast in the morning. Today I switched it up and am using The Ordinary’s Coverage Foundation, same concealer.
Double Wear Light is the only thing that lasts through the workday reasonably well, but the lightest shade is too dark on me right now (#pale) so I’m mixing it with MUFE HD Ultra. Concealer for the last few days has been Nars Radiant Creamy concealer, which is working well.
Clinique Even Better Foundation and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Neutralizer Concealer
I don’t use concealer at all, but I have a few favourite foundations.
Everyday foundations: Elf foundation in Porcelain and Rimmel Match Perfection Gel/Creme foundation in Porcelain. Sometimes I use the Nude by Nature BB Creme in porcelain underneath to give the Rimmel foundation extra life.
HE foundation: the Clarins Everlasting foundation in linen and the Chosungah 22 foundation in porcelain.
Mine is also Fenty Profilt’r or Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder (for lighter days). I absolutely love the Colourpop concealers. They work really well for me and they’re so cheap!! Im an NC 25 to 30 for reference, a 240 in Fenty and 6 in the Light Wonder.
Haven’t put the Fenty foundation down since it was released. I don’t really wear concealer, but when I do my favs are Nars creamy radiant or Tartes tape shape.
For concealer, it’s Nars radiant creamy. I love this concealer!
I recently tried Mac Pro long wear concealer and like the finish a lot, but can’t seem to find the right shade/undertone for my deep skin tone.
I don’t wear liquid foundation that often, but I use powder or B.B. cream/ tinted moisturizer mostly. Lately, I’ve been using the L’Oréal pro matte powder. When I do wear liquid foundation it’s been Lancôme teint idole.
Giorgio Armani Luminius Silk mixed with Laura Mercier Candleflow. Not necessarily for the finish, but really cuz the LM leans really peachy and I’m trying to somehow use it up. LM Secret Camo, again just cuz I have a tiny bit left and trying to use it up. And BareMinerals serum concealor under my eyes.
I’ve been using Loreal infallible pro glow in creamy natural with Maybelline age rewind concealer in fair. Sometimes I use Maybelline fit me concealer in fair. I love the way they sit on my skin. Such a great glow and dewey.
NARS Sheer Glow in combo with the NARS Soft Matte concealer and/or the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer (and yes, I’m having a serious NARS moment right now).
Usually Maybelline Fit Me Dewy & Smooth or Holika Holika Aqua Jelly (though I have to use a lightening mixer because the lightest shade is too dark).
I don’t use concealer because I don’t need it. I only own one and it’s by NYX.
Koh Gen Doh Maifanshi moisture foundation in shade 123 is my current one but I probably will change it up when it is gone. My concealer is CoverFX cream concealer. I bought it as a spot concealer so it matches all my foundations but I find it works well as an under eye concealer over a little eye cream. The tube seems to be lasting forever.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation (fair-light neutral) and Nars Radiant concealer (vanilla), but I’m waiting for my Nars Soft Matte (vanilla) to arrive (heard good things right here).
Loreal Demi like it more than Infallible I use both with the glow having on the dry skin side and Maybelline Fit Me! Also. Like these three very much I feel the Infallible has more coverage mild to medium than both Loreal’s ones. I like very thin foundations hardly use concealer except under eyes when having allergies, lack of sleep, headache or looking like Droopy. On those days.
LA Girl Pro Concealer in Green, for color correcting my cheeks.
elf Under Eye Concealer, that my mom gave me because she didn’t like it but I think it’s actually pretty nice.
elf Flawless Finish Foundation, my holy grail!
The first foundation I reach for is Kevyn Aucoin’s “The Etherealist”…It applies easily with a light-medium coverage, that I’m sure can be built up. It leaves a radiant healthy glow without looking or feeling overdone. I use the same line’s Etherealist Super Natural concealer or the Etherealist corrector concealer treating pigmentation, red areas or a breakout.
Clinique’s Even Better Glow & Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation are my other go to foundations.
During the Xmas Holidays, there were tons of deals on Ulta.com & I discovered a Drugstore Trio Pack that performed Way better than I expected: Physicians Formula
The Physicians Formula Trio pack included a Bottle of Argan Oil, BB foundation cream in Light-Med w/SPF 30 & a rose shaped blush. The oil worked great as lightly applied primer. The BB Cream worked best applied with a Beauty Blender. The blush was a flush of different shades of pink. The trio cost only $9.99, & I always love a Great deal on a great product…Recommend all of the above mentioned foundations & concealers. Benefit’s line of BOI-NG Airbrush, brightening, hydrating & industrial strength concealers are great too.
I’m using Tom Ford foundation and concealer in one and i like it. I am dry now and could use a more moisturinzing combo but it’s easy and the color works. I might try the Fenty though. It has good feedback
MUFE Ultra HD Invisible Cover and the Fenty Pro’filtr have been my go tos depending on whether I want a more satin to slightly luminous finish or natural matte finish. If I’m using concealer I pair them with my HG Cle de Peau concealer.
For reference I wear an nc20/25 and wear 225 in the MUFE and 180 in the Fenty (the slightly olive undertone in 190 is actually the best for me, it’s just noticeably too dark, but 180 is still a pretty good match).
I’ve been mixing my MAC Face & Body with Becca Aqua Luminous – gives a radiant glow that I love. And for concealer I use MAC Peach Luster corrector mixed with MAC studio tech.
Currently using Lancôme Dual Finish foundation in Clair II 210 (N) shade with Urban Decay Complete Coverage Concealer in Light Neutral shade. Under the eyes I use Urban Decay Pink shade concealer. It changes to Peach in the summer months.
Let’s start by saying that I don’t use any concealer other than Tarte Shape Tape for undereye. Before I discovered this, I didn’t use any because they all made my undereye skin look worse than without. (I do dabble, rarely, in other concealers for blemish cover, but it’s rare that I need/want more coverage than foundation for blemishes).
My favorite foundation, the one I come back to no matter how many others I try, is Maybelline Better Skin. Sadly, it’s discontinued. I just bought a backup on clearance since the one I’m using is almost out, but then I’ll be moving on. I do like to try others, but nothing has done what this one does. Quite simply, it lives up to its name and gives me…better skin. Maybelline’s Fit Me Dewy & Smooth is a close second though.
I don’t wear foundation, but I really like Wet N Wild Photo Focus concealer for under eyes and to cut down the redness on my cheeks near my nose. I usually set that with Essence All About Matt powder and then use that same powder all over my face just to keep the oiliness down (plus, blush/contour applies awfully on the cheeks without some kind of powder there first).
Missha Cho Bo Yang BB cream: this is the most gorgeous thick creamy foundation that melts into the skin. I find it to be medium to full coverage.
Benefit Erase Paste: just for blemishes and obvious redness. I have seen a lot of girls on the YouTube tutorials packing on the liquid concealer under the eyes and on the forehead, but I’m not really sure what the purpose of that is so I don’t do it.
Generally, there’s no use for it, they’ve just seen it done by others so they imitate it. Very few need the level of or type of concealing you see in those videos. The ones who do need serious concealment, don’t need it done *in that way*. Kudos to you for being reserved.
That is good to know! I’m in my late 30’s so I find concealer under the eyes just sinks into my fine lines and looks worse. I’m one of those annoying people who thinks it’s probably better to do stuff like get enough sleep and staying hydrated so your skin needs less make-up in the first place though. I definitely spend more on skincare than makeup.
I love mixing the Wet N Wild Photo Focus foundation with the Covergirl Vitality Healthy Elixir foundation! Then I usually use my Urban Decay Naked Concealer for under the eyes!
The only concealer I use regularly is YSL Touch Eclat Radiant Touch, and that’s only for undereye. When I need to (the occasional spot), I use a powder concealer (2-Abyssinian) from Meow Cosmetics. When I run out of that, I’ll likely find another touch-up powder as a replacement (powder foundation or concealer). I also have KVD Lock-It concealer in L7 Warm, but it’s serious stuff, and I find I don’t have much need for that level of concealer. My concealer use is independent of my foundation choice.
I use two foundation combinations — one for work days, and the other for weekends or vacation: Workday foundation is a mix of Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue in Birch 1.5, NARS Siberia, and EL Double Wear in 1W1 Bone. For weekends/vacation, I use IT CC+ in Fair blended with a little sunscreen, though I’ll sometimes use it straight if I feel a real need for coverage. When I use up my other foundations, it’s possible I’ll switch to just the CC+ permanently for everyday.
