I like matte finishes the best (bullet lipstick only). However, I don’t like the mattes that look super dry, such as Makeup By Mario’s shade Erin, which turns my lips into beige prunes. MAC and Huda are my favorite brands for matte lipsticks. Satin is ok, too. But I don’t like anything shinier than that on myself.

MAC’s Amplified Cream formula was absolute perfection for me. It was reasonably long wearing (for a lipstick with a hydrating and creamy finish) and wasn’t drying or uncomfortable. Years ago, Clarins had (for a short time) a long wearing lipstick in a formula that was also hydrating and flattering. It was called Rouge Prodige and it was so wonderful but if it was around for 2 years, that’s saying a lot. I just really dislike matte lipsticks and those long wearing, drying liquid “lipstick” formulas that look and feel like you’ve used a Sharpie marker on your lips. I hate how they feel on me and I don’t think they’re especially flattering even on younger women.

I like glossy lipsticks because I’m needing more and more hydration as I get older — even satin lipsticks need a bit of gloss on top to avoid sinking into my lip lines. I’m surprised I can still get use out of my MAC Mattes, but it requires two layers of Vaseline under and over them. Most other matte lipsticks are just terrible.

Definitely something on the creamier end of the spectrum, whether a satiny matte or something even more juicy and hydrating. Usually, something very pigment saturated and not frosted. Although, like yourself, I do love a good luminous finish now and then!
My absolute favorites? PMG Labs LuxeTrance Lipstick and the old UD Vice lipstick formulas, which are both sadly gone. Also love MAC Amplified and Satin formulas.

I too prefer a creamier texture that doesn’t accentuate my lips lines. Does anyone have rec for a lippie that isn’t drying or cracky, that does not look like chalk on my lips? Thanks!
