What is your current morning skincare routine?

I cleanse with Cle de Peau’s Cream Cream Oil, Kate Somerville ExfoliKate (as necessary), and then use my prescription topical (clindamycin) followed by La Roche Posay Antehlios SX. If I’m going to be outside (not just going from car to place), then I use La Roche Posay Anthelious 50.

To start the day with a clean slate; I cleanse my face using Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Face Cleanser (4-5 days per week) or Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel (2-3 days remaining), apply Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream over upper lid and undereye area, then if I’ll be staying in, I’ll apply FAB Ultra Repair Cream (in the tube) or on most days, FAB Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer spf 40.
Daytime skincare is far less complicated than my nighttime routine, I tell ya!

Great question – I’m curious to hear what everyone else loves! For me it’s
Olay Gentle Clean Foaming Face Wash
Paula’s Choice Resist 2% BHA Treatment
Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm
Paula’s Choice Resist Ultra Light Antioxidant Serum + C15 Super Booster Drops
CeraVe Eye Repair Cream
Paula’s Choice Resist Super Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30

Marie Avatar

I use Cetaphil mild cleanser with Clarisonic (extra soft bristles) in the shower. Then I use Paula’s Choice CLEAR Extra Strength Exfoliant with a cotton pad. I follow with Algenist serum with Retinol. Then Rodan + Fields eye cream. Then Dr. Jart Sun Fluid SPF 30.

Yes, this takes me about 15 min in stages. But I do these things in between brushing my teeth, flossing, and drying my hair. ?

These are my current steps/products for my morning face routine:
1. Cleanse – Glossier jelly cleanser
2. Tone – Nip + Fab glycolic pads
3. Serum – Drunk Elephant: C-Firma Day Serum
4. Moisturize – Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel
5. Primer/Suncreen (if needed)

I begin by using Nuxe Reve de Miel Gel Cleanser on a Konjac sponge. I use the sponge very gently in a circular motion to remove any skin deadened by my acid peel from the night before. If necessary I follow with Tatcha Rice Powder and again gently make circular motions on the skin of my face and neck. I then spray my face with Pixi Milky Moisturizer and follow that with Laneige Water moisturizer. I then apply Smashbox Primer Oil and follow with whatever sunscreen I am liking at the time. I do not have an HG sunscreen and have been trying several different ones to see which I like best under my foundation. When I use my cushion foundation it has SPF 50 and then I just use my Skin Chic powder during the day. I allow all products to set and then apply my makeup.

I shower every morning so in the shower, I alternate between the Hylamide cleanser and the Pacifica Glow Baby (using charcoal scrub pads). Out of the shower, I spray with the Hylamide Density Mist (wait a bit) then use the Hylamide SubQ and SubQ Eyes. I just ordered the new Urban Decay Quick Fix to use on days I feel I may need a bit of moisture. I always use a bit of the Kiehl’s Buttercream balm as well.

lisebeth Avatar

I first clean my face with the Louis Widmer skin appeal lipo sol mousse, then I applied the nuxe crème fraiche moisturizer on my face and the nuxe nirvanesque premières rides eye cream around my eyes and I finish with the nuxe lipbalm rêve de miel.

Morning Routine —
Cleanser: Shiseido Benefiance
Toner: Shiseido Benefiance
Serum: Decleor Aromessence
Moisturizer: Decleor Cocoon Cream (Sun: Josie Maran Daily SPF 47 + Dr Jart BB SPF 45)

They’re all appropriate for dry skin. I also apply a prescription cream to flaky skin when necessary.

If I’m going out and about or doing yardwork, I’ll splash water on my face, then use a hydrator (Cosrx Snail 96; my skin loves it!) and sunscreen (Biore 50 water essense or somesuch, blue tube) and any makeup I want to use.

If I’m staying in, I’ll skip the splash and just pat on some hydrator or VitC (Lumirance) or niacinamide (trialing MUAC atm), or just leave my face alone.

Banila Co. Clean It Zero Oil Wash

Kiehl’s Calendula Wash

Kiehl’s Calendula Toner

Evian Mineral Water Spritz

Mizon Cosmetics Water Volume Ex First Essence (adding this in for the first time this week to help with dryness caused by NE winters coupled with swimming. We’ll see.)

Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Face Oil Concentrate

Kiehl’s Rose Arctica light day cream

Kiehl’s Rose Arctica eye cream

I rely on the EL BB cream under by foundation for sunscreen — SPF 35. I assume this is enough and don’t need a stand alone (like La Roche Posay) in addition?

I live in Boston, so this routine changes often depending on the weather. It’s winter and I rarely go outside so don’t bother with SPF. Plus I’m pregnant, so I’m trying to avoid using anything that will thin my skin or has dubious ingredients. Right now it’s all about keeping my pregnancy glow and dryness at bay. So far no crazy pigmentation and I’ve had exactly one pimple my entire pregnancy. I’ll go back to anti aging post baby.

Wash with Omorovicza hydra melting cleanser (jury’s still out on whether it’s worth the $$$ but I don’t regret buying it on sale. I think it may work better on someone with less dry skin or not in the dead of winter)

Exfoliate with Omorovicza facial polish (best exfoliator I’ve ever used and absolutely worth the $$).

Use whatever random serum/toner sample I have open. Right now it’s Ren Beauty Shot or Lancome Energie de Vie pearly lotion. I almost never buy serums, because I get so many samples that it doesn’t seem worth it.

Depending on how cold/dry it is I follow up either with Josie Maran argan oil or The Ordinary roseship oil. I will say that this oil has done A LOT to reducing pigmentation and keeping my skin soft, which is great. I switched products because I’m pregnant, but this may be one of the few things I’m loyal to. Plus it was under $10.

If I’m really dry, or if my shower was too hot, I finish with Ren Global protection day cream and embryolisse.

AB Avatar

For this season, Cerave cleanser for normal skin, SK-II cellumination mask in lotion, clyndamicin as needed, the most intensive eye lotion I have (currently working through samples including La Mer, also La Prairie). If I am going to spend time outdoors, La Roche Posey 50 for sun protection.

Erica Avatar

I wash with Cera Ve and that’s it. I maybe put on a lightweight sunblock after but that is all. I keep it super simple for day and add a serum at nighttime. After years of acne etc I have found the more simple I have kept things, the better my skin has been. Now no acne. My skin isn’t crazy oily. And everyone thinks I’m my 14 year old’s sister so I must be doing something right:)

Fran Avatar

Cleanse with CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser; apply Paula’s Choice Clear Regular Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution With 2% Salicylic Acid (for BHA that feels almost like water on my skin), then PC Resist Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum, then PC Eye Cream and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Cream.

Usually I wear a base product that contains mineral-based sunscreen, but, if I don’t, I’ll use PC Resist Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 under a really dewy foundation that needs mattifying, or Elta MD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 in place of my moisturizer under sunscreen if I’m going for a dewier finish (my skin has calmed down enough that it can tolerate some octinoxate with its zinc oxide).

Mariella Avatar

I usually wash with Purifying Cleansing Gel, Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser or sometimes just warm water on a clean face cloth. I will sometimes use a toner or “wake up” type of lotion-y toner. Clarins Super Restorative eye cream or LRP SPF 60 sun screen cream as an eye cream. On my face, first an oil or serum (I’m fickle – it could Vasanti, Algenist, NUDE, Boscia or my newest acquisition, The Body Shop Oils of Life) and then either Clinique Super Defense Cream or IT Cosmetics CC Cream.

Christine (or anyone who loves Exfolikate) – if you can get your hands on Vasanti Brighten Up Enzymatic “something or other”, give it a try. It’s a Canadian company and you get a whole lot more product for a whole lot less money and I find this stuff to be very bit as good, if not better. I used to use Exfolikate (and still have a small unopened tube of it somewhere) but was so happy to find Brighten Up….it’s really amazing though I doubt I’d use it daily – once or twice a week does it for me.

Currently nothing if you can believe it! My face gets easily irritated and I start work very early in the morning. Many days start with a meeting and my skin looks best in the morning in terms of redness and texture so I leave it be so I don’t show up looking like I’ve smeared blood or jam all over my face. I’d like to find products that don’t do it but I’m also lazy and presses for time!

Anne Avatar

I’m hesitant to comment, but if I don’t, then I might regret it. Having said that, I knew someone who had a very similar problem, and she finally asked (of all people) her gynecologist if it could be caused by an hormonal imbalance. It turned out that it was, and she tried a birth control pill that had a different estrogen/progesterone ratio. (They’re not all the same.) The difference in her skin within 60 days was incredible. All of this to say, sometimes our problems aren’t just with skincare, but also with an internal imbalance that needs some readjusting. Just wanted to offer up a thought for your consideration. I hope you don’t mind.

That’s really interesting! I will be changing my BC this month. Luckily, I already knew about the BC in terms of all the different types and what is in them and the major side effects. We’ll see what happens.

My main issue is rosacea and the fact I have very pale translucent skin. You can see all the major veins in my face on my forehead, under eye, and temples and a bit on my chin where the skin has less fat or muscle. Just rubbing my face makes it flush.

I have nice products I use at night, mostly Sunday Riley, Pixi, and Fresh with a side of Deciem. The issue is most of the products are better for night use and they don’t really add additional redness. I’m considering getting SR’s new CEO cream and moving Tidal to the morning. I’m also looking to add some The Ordinary to make a morning routine. I’ll probably end up with a short routine with just a few products, one for I have to be presentable asap face and one for I can hide out for a few hours face! I just need to get off my duff, be willing to spend some money, and risk a few rudolf weeks until I find what works!

Anne Avatar

She had the identical issues; very, very fair and her rosacea gave her fits. She had been going to different dermatologists for years, and her current dermatologist at the time suggested that she might want to consult her gynecologist. The right BC helped her so much and I hope it will for you, too. It may take some experimentation (hormones are tricky little beasts), but it would be worth it if you saw improvement. Good luck to you!

Carolyn Avatar

I have the same issues. Ironically the best thing for me has been evening prep too. I have spent a fortune on finding a moisturizer that won’t irritate my skin. I’ve discovered that using just regular coconut oil as a moisturizer seems to calm the redness and blotchy/dry texture. In the morning I use bare minerals tinted brightening serum (other foundations just seem to cause more patches of dry skin, this one doesn’t for me). Mario Badescu’s Aloe Rose Spray works great as a setting spray and doesn’t irritate.

Ana Maria Avatar

I cleanse my face with the Simple Foaming cleanser, follow with Paula Choice Calm toner, then with Paula Choice Liquid 2% BHA (twice a week, when I’m doing benzoyl peroxide at night and avoid to apply also BHA), then with Alpha Skincare Nourishing Eye Cream (around my eyes, forehead and smile lines), then with Paula Choice Calm SPF 50 moisturizer.
Far less complicated then my nighttime routine for me as well. 🙂

Linda Avatar

I’ve been starting my day with a swipe of FAB Beauty’s facial radiance pads – they have glycolic and lactic acids and are a very gentle exfoliator, and leave on for 1/2 hour or so, then cleanse with Boscia clear complexion wash. If I’m feeling extra fancy and want squeaky skin I’ll follow up with Tatcha’s rice powder.

The FAB pads are pricey but you can cut the rounds in half to stretch them out – they last 4 months a jar for me this way.

Debbie Avatar

Olay Regenerist Regenerating Cream Cleanser, Trader Joe’s Nourish Oil-Free Antioxidant Facial Moisturizer, CeraVe Eye Repair Cream, Rimmel Lip Conditioning Balm, and an SPF. Very simple, economical, but it works for me.

Andy Avatar

My morning routine is my nighttime one and vice versa cause I’m a night shift nurse. So I don’t need to use anything with spf since I don’t really see the light anymore, and it shows. My skin is pretty dull right now, I can’t wait to live in daylight again!!!!!

But Christine, if you don’t mind me asking, why are you using an antibiotic (clindamycin)? Thank you!!

Bon Bon Avatar

I use a milk cleanser in the shower and a facial scrub. First thing in morning and when I’m in for the night, I use makeup remover facial wipes. After drying I use Carols Daughter Monoi Body Repairing transformative Cream Oil followed by Belif da Bomb gel. If it’s a no makeup day I just cleanse and da Bomb after wipes. If going outside for any real length of time I use an spf moisturizer or facial tanner.

Glenda Avatar

I do a light cleanse with either Cera Ve Hydrating Cleanser or The Face Shop cleansing Oil. Then I use my vitamin C serum (currently by Deciem The Ordinary Company) and any other serums I might need that day, subject to change depending on the day.
I use the Aveeno Hydrate and Protect Sunscreen SPF 50. I only use this in the winter though because it’s very hydrating.

My skin type: SUPER Acne prone towards new products, Dehydrated deep down, but oily on the top!

My morning skincare routine is:

Marcelle ultra gentle cleansing gel (It’s a super light cream/lotion that doesn’t foam up at ALL!) to cleanse.
Marcelle Tonifying Lotion for normal/dry skin (It’s a toner that doesn’t have alcohol in it!! It makes my skin feel nice and smooth!!)
Clinique Dramatically different moisturizing lotion+ (I’v been using this for about two weeks now!! But I do really like it!!)
Clinique all about eyes serum (I like this! It’s a lightweight serum that makes my eyes ready for concealer!
Coppertone Sensitive skin facial sunblock SPF50 (I bought this on christmas eve, so i haven’t been using it long. But it hasn’t broken me out. I usually buy Neutragena clear skin SPF60 Sunblock!!)

BonnieBBon Avatar

I’m so jealous you can get Marcelle!! I love every single thing I’ve ever tried from the brand. It’s been several months since I unsubscribed from birchbox and having access to marcelle has been my biggest regret about leaving. I don’t know if they still make the night time bb cleanser but oh man is it good! It’s the best cleanser I’ve ever used. If you’ve never tried it, give it a go. It’s not something you’d use every night but when you do it’s like waking up to skin that teeny tiny facialists have been pampering all night. LOL after all that, Hi. I’m Bonnie, nice to “meet” you 🙂

Cleanse with Lancer, exfoliate with Lancer, few drops of Lancet serum then Lancer cream. Love this streamlined regime, much nicer than my past ten products, and my skin looks better than ever!

Donna E. Avatar

I have a simple routine:
– Garnier Micellar water on cotton square
– Timeless eye cream
– Trader Joe’s Antioxidant serum
– CeraVe Moisturizer (in tub)
If I am going out:
– Algenist SPF 50

Dianne Avatar

Mine is pretty simple:

Wash face in the shower with Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters face wash, then Origins GinZing eye cream and Olay Complete moisturizer with SPF 15, and some Chapstick. During the summer I throw on additional SPF or go straight in with the It Cosmetics CC cream, but yeah, for the most part that’s all I do.

Pamela F. Avatar

My routine is very minimal in the AM. Plain water, Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum then Neutrogena Healthy Defense Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 50.
If my skin feels flaky from the previous night’s treatments, I’ll use Garnier Micellar Water then Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner.

Peta Avatar

I cleanse with Bioderma Atoderm cleanser. Then SK-II Essence. Then Olay miracle boost. Eye serum, Delarom then Verso super facial serum. My eyes then have Sunday Riley Start Over followed by face cream Chantecaille La Creme Riche Anti-Age +. Finally La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+. Ok over kill but my skin feels superb

Anne Avatar

Cleanser: FAB Pure Skin Face Cleanser

Serum: FAB Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum

Moisturizer: Depending on how much moisture I need, either Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream for dry skin (they’ve discontinued the dry skin version which was lighter so I’ll have to find a different one when I run out), or if I need something heavier/am just feeling lazy, I just throw on the FAB Ultra Repair Cream.

Eye Cream: currently finishing off Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream, then will move on to my Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

I really need an SPF to incorporate but have yet to find a decent moisturizer for my skin type that has SPF in it. I’m hoping the Body Shop’s Skin defence Multi-Protection Essence SPF50 gets FDA approved here because they are ridiculous about SPF formulas in this country…. It would be a perfect step in-between serum and moisturizer to add in SPF.

Kendra Avatar

Ooh! I like this one!
I wash with Cetaphil. Then I mix Andalou Naturals Vitamin C and Turmeric serum with Oke Henricksen Sheer Transformation. Next, Neutrogena sunscreen, and then Olay Regenerist Regenerating serum as a primer under my makeup.

ShariP Avatar

I normally use Olay Gentle Clean wash in the shower. Followed by Lancome Genifique and Visionairre serums. Then Olay Regenerist moisturizer cream and ProX Eye Restoration Complex. Then makeup. Currently I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark and rarely see daylight. In the summer I add an SPF50 cream by Neutrogena.

Great question. I’m planning on starting a 10 step Asian type regimen for the new year. I don’t have problems with breakouts or terribly dry skin, but do have some areas of pigmentation from too much unprotected sun exposure years ago. Hubby was diagnosed with melanoma 17 years ago so I’ve pretty much avoided the sun unless I have on a sunblock with a minimum of 50 SPF.

Cleanser: CeraVe or REN Rosa Centifolia Hot Cloth Cleanser

Acid Toner: Pixi Glow Tonic or Clarins Toning Lotion with Chamomile; Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkley Peel Pads (1x week a.m.)

Hydrating Toner: Belif Hungarian Water Essence (forehead & nose only), and Pixi Hydrating Milk Mist

Eye Cream: Eysilix or The Body Shop Vitamin Eye Cream

Serums: Suki Skincare Targeted Bio-Brightening Face Serum (for melasma spot), and Hydraluron Serum

Treatments: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lip Therapy (if chapped lips); May Lindstrom The Blue Cocoon (spot treatment if eczema spot and/or pimple; amazing for any inflamed spots)

Moisturizer: CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion (if flaky or dry patches) or Belif The True Cream Moisture Bomb

I have an amped up skincare regimen in the winter as my skin is very, very dry this time of year whether it is cold or not (due to humidity differences). It might seem like a lot, but if I do not follow this morning routine, my skin flakes off. A lot.

1. Cleanse – Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel
2. Tone – Pixi Glow Tonic
3. Oil – Tarte Maracuja Oil (1-2 drops)
4. Serum – Origins A Perfect World Age-Defense Skin Guardian with White Tea
5. Moisturize – The Body Shoppe Vitamin C Glow-Protect Lotion SPF 30
6. Eye – Clarins Eye Contour Gel
7. Lips – Smith’s Rosebud Salve

Monika Avatar

1. Cleanse: Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (for sensitive skin)
2. Tone: COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner
3. Hydrate: COSRX essence (hyaluronic acid or galactomyces or snail)
4. Moisturize: first Cerave Cream then Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask (as cream)
5. Suncreen: A’Pieu Pure Block Natural Sun Cream SPF45/PA+++

Great question! Thanks for sharing your routines everybody, there are several things I was reminded I want to try. My morning routine is a lot but way less than at night! Because my skin is so dry and we’re on well water I don’t use cleanser in the morning just bioderma on a cotton pad. Then I use Paula’s Choice Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner. Up next exfoliation with Paula’s Choice 2%bha lotion. I was using Korres wild rose cleanser for years thinking it was a great product bc it could cleanse and provide gentle but effective exfoliation but once you’ve tried a chemical the manual stuff just seems ineffective. Next I mix 3 or 4 drops of Dr Jart Ceramidin liquid with a couple drops of Josie Maran Argan Milk. Once that soaks in, Dr Jart Ceramidin cream. I top it off and seal it all in with Josie Maran Daily moisturizer spf 47 before sun exposure. If I don’t need spf I skip that last step. It’s an elegant almost weightless spf. I love it ?

I use Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom cleanser, Murad Clarifying toner, Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic and Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (UK resident).

i wash with warm water, drunk elefant c-serum plus la roche posay toleriane. no need for suncare, because its grey all day, no sun.
i am keeping it simple at the moment, because i do no make up at the moment. sort of vacation for the face-skin..

I don’t use a traditional cleanser in the morning, only at night. I start with Paula”s Choice Skin Balancing Toner followed by her 2% BHA liquid and her Ultralight Antioxidant Serum. On top of that I use my Clindamycin gel. Finally I use jojoba oil under my eyes only and Skinceuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF50. This has kept my rosecea and acne at bay most of the year in combination with my evening routine.

Mo Merrell Avatar

My morning and night routines don’t really differ in product.

I wash my face at night so when I wake I only do a quick face wash with Aveeno foaming face wash.
Apply Joise Maran Argan Infinity Oil
Then begin Makeup routine.

I have been blessed by the skin gawds with good skin so I don’t need much product on my face but moisturizer after a cleanser.

Silvia Avatar

Cera Vé facial cleanser followed by its moisterizer. I been noticing my skin looking lot more plumpy/less dry. . Also instead of primer also use CeraVé before foundation. Bingo! Is working! 🙂

Bonnie Avatar

Morning? Skin Care? Lol. I just rub in a moisturizer, or a BB or CC cream, depending on what I’m testing this week from subscription services. Then if I have any blemishes (those few days a month), I put a treatment on them. The current one is Balance Me for Congested Skin. It’s awesome.

Oh, and I use Miracle Blur, but not until after bronzer, so I consider that part of my makeup routine, not skin care.

And I do a little more skin care at night, but you didn’t ask that. 🙂

Bonnie Avatar

I forgot to mention, I use lip balm morning, noon, and night. Always after brushing my teeth and rinsing the toothpaste off the brush. Also if my lip color is wearing off in the lines. I have so many brands, but the current fave is Vaseline LE pink bubbly. And the CC cream I am currently using is Marcelle CC Cream Complete Correction, Golden Glow. Got it from Birchbox, and I love it. I will be using this little sample up any day now. It’s a perfect complement to my golden yet slightly-winter-pale skin.

1. Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser but if my skin is drier, then I might mix with Cerave Hydrating Cleanser.
2. Paulas Choice BHA 4 all-over face except eyelids
3. Paulas Choice 5% Benzoyl Peroxide as spot treatment as needed
4. Paulas choice BHA9 as spot treatment
5. Bareminerals Complexion Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream mixed with…
6. Paulas Choice Niacinamide Booster (2 drops)

If I’ve slept with Aquaphor or a sleeping pack on I’ll sometimes skip washing my face and just go straight to either c+e+ferrulic acid serum (Timeless). Occasionally I’ll use an AHA (Pixi) or a BHA (Paula’s Choice) beforehand. If I d wash my face it’s with CeraVe hydrating and a konjac sponge or a microfiber cloth. I wait 15 min after the c serum to use hyaluronic acid (Timeless) and a moisturizer (Belif or Embryolisse if my skin is extra dry). If I have a longer time to wait I’ll slip in some Jojoba oil before the moisturizer. It ends with spf 50 (Biore or Shiseido) and lipbalm before I start makeupping.
