What is your best back-to-school or "work-safe" look?
What is your best back-to-school or “work-safe” look? School’s coming up for some, but many go to work, so let’s do both!
Probably something like a champagne on the lid and a taupe in the crease, some mascara, coral blush, and coral lips.
Thanks to Leanne for today’s question. Got a question idea? Submit yours here.
You should do a week where you take a picture of your makeup everyday. Not just your tutorial looks buy what you’re actually wearing that day. :).
Ps don’t you sleep? I swear you’re always awake. Haha
Painterly Paint Pot, Retrospeck, Cliniques Glossy lashes mascara, Tarina Tarantino Carved Rose Blush (super light), and C.O Bigelow’s Ultra Mentha Lip Shine. The retrospeck is super simple and dynamic enough to be used alone, and the lip shine is simple and helps freshen your breath!
I go to high school and my quick everyday look is MAC’s MSFN all over my face for light coverage, some eyeliner and mascara. :\ Idk about you guys but at my school it’s perfectly normal to wear tons of dark eye makeup but if you put anything on your cheeks or lips, the rumors will start spreading! 🙁
And non-related, Christine, can you do a review on Lancome’s La Rose Deco powder and their new sweet nude lip gloss from their new French Coquettes collection? I swatched Rose Deco today and it was gorge, but i’m not sure if it’s worth $40. Thanks! 🙂 Love your blog by the way, I check back daily!
Maybe a powder foundation, and some mascara, if I wear anything. Otherwise, it would end up similar to my no-makeup style-naked lunch over the lid, some more matte browns in the crease, and a light frosty gloss.

Maybe a smoky eye like that if I feel fancy.
I ‘m lucky enough to be able to do whatever I want with my appearance when it comes to work , which works out well since I have bright purple hair 🙂
Painterly and NARS Bali on the lids, brown mascara, NARS Zen and MAC Blushbaby on the cheeks, and a brown-pink or dusty rose lipstick, like Dolce Vita.
Christine,
What are your favorite ‘work/school-safe’ champagnes for e/s?
Thanks!!!!
I wish I could wear as much as I like, but being a guy brings “work-safe” into a serious scenario.
I wear either MAC studio moisture tint or smashbox sheer focus, along with Mac finishing powder. I brush on some mascara and apply a nude lipgloss/lipstick. And then I’m good to go! 🙂
Face: Tinted moisturizer/MSF Natural
Eyes:
MAC Soba on lid
MAC Bronze on crease
MAC Era for brow highlight
Brown eyeliner on lower lash line and mascara
Cheeks: MAC Lilicent Blushcreme topped with Benefit Dallas on cheeks
Lips: some type of tinted lip conditioner or Vaseline
all that glitters all over lid with tempting in the outer corner and crease blacktrack fluidline on upper lash line and waterline with loreal telescopic mascara. angel lipstick with just superb dazzleglass creme
a light neutral colour on the lid, usually matte, and a brown shade in the crease, again matte. I prefer going matte, less noticeable that way, at least in my opinion. Some brown mascara, I tend to avoid black for school, brown is softer and more natural.
peachy coral blush and some coral lipgloss, preferably sheer.
em pinky nude lips , bronzed cheeks and really thick mascara on my eyes that’s it
Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and secret concealer under eyes and secret camouflage on any blemishes.
Shiseido Taffeta Taupe eyeshadow duo, used wet – lighter color all over, darker color through crease and on lid, and under bottom lashes.
Bobbi Brown Gel Ink eyeliner in Forest Shimmer to very lightly line upper lashes, and make a tiny tiny wing. Fresh Firebird mascara.
Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Pink Truffle on cheeks and lips.
Tinted moisturizer, powder, pink blush, nude-ish pink lips with a champagne or pinky silver on the lid to brow and lots of mascara
light pink e/s on the lid + dark pink on the crease.
Peachy blush & long wear lipstick 😉
Luckily, my work is pretty relaxed plus I wear glasses so I can get away with a bit more eye makeup… I like a sultry nude or vintage violet eye (rich pinks, soft, smoky lilacs and deep purples in the crease) with a soft pink cheek (Jordana Rose Silk with MAC Petticoat or Gentle is a favourite) and a nude, beige or pink lip, Chanel Hydrabase Lily Beige, Jordana Matte Rafael or Estee Lauder Dune Rose are favourites.
I love to use brown eyeliner for work, Revlon wins with the discontinued Wet n Dry liner in Chocolate Bar (I have several backups stashed) or Luxurious Colour in Sueded Brown – or MAC Powerpoint in Permaplum or Estee Lauder Double Wear eye liner in Black Plum does it for purple, which I also adore.
Plus a flawless (as can be) foundation, black mascara amd groomed brows and I’m good to go. My boss doesn’t mind that I turn up with damp hair 9 days out of 10 either, bless him….
This comes in at the right time for me! School starts again on Moday.
I think a light beige on the lid, a beige in the crease and a copper to deepen the crease. Black liner and black mascara to give it more traction. Then just a sweep of peach blush on the cheeks and a nude-ish lipstick and I’m good.
Right now, when I need a ‘safe look’ (which I never need at my job) I use Fyrinnae Rapunzel Had Extensions as a wash of color on my lid and crease, on top of TFSI. I use Blanc Type to highlight. I put on a bit of Black Out Gel liner on the upper lash line. I use lash primer and then Flirt! It Curl mascara. I put on my foundation, and I define my brows with Lorac dark brown brow pencil. I use MAC Hot Tahiti lipstick. For blush I either go without or I use Aromaleigh’s Verve (which is a red-peach-pink).
My safe look is as follows:
– MAC Bare Study painpot
– MAC Dazzlelight eyeshadow all over lid
– MAC Copperplate eyeshadow in crease
– MAC Typographic eyeshadow on outer lash line
– Urban Decay Zero eyeliner on tightline
– Max Factor Masterpiece Max mascara in black
– MAC Concrete eyeshadow in brows
– Benefit Coralista blush
– MAC Plink lipstick
For work I usually use Vanilla and Naked pigments under my brow. I use tan on my lid and Chocolate Brown pigment on my crease. Some days I use Coco Pigment and Tea Time pigment as well.
Eyes: MAC Ricepaper (lid), Bare Escentuals Coco (crease)
Cheeks: MAC Instant Chic or NYX Natural
Lips: L’Oreal Fairest Nude or Jazzed
Foundation: NARS Sheer Glow or Revlon Photo Ready
For eyes I mostly stick to neutrals, pinks, beiges, champagnes, the lighter shades or other colours. I do sometimes dip into the darker ones depending on my mood.
For lips I like to go with whatever works with the eyes be it pinks, reds, berries, browns, or neutrals.
I’m not afraid to do my work “goth” look. Dark shadow and dark lips. I’m also not afraid to wear glitter to work be it liner or all over the eye lid. LOL
maybe Teddy eyeliner, some mascara, pink blush and pink lipgloss 😀
Face: Some Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and some Well-Dressed blush on the cheeks.
Eyes: I like Urban Decays scratch eyeshadow. Its a gorgeous pinky champagne, and I will wear a plummy brown like MAC Twinks in the crease with some brown liner and mascara
Lips: Korres Pomegranate lip butter
Simple winged eyeliner, matte white eyeshadow underneath my brow bone, shimmery gold or silver eyeshadow on my tear-duct area, tons of mascara, a flawless complexion (thank goodness for foundation, concealer, and powder), and pinky nude gloss. Super simple and super fast
Ah just a neutral color on lid, eyeliner, mascara then a peachy pink blush and some neutral colored lips
I can do whatever makeup I want, thankfully! I love doing bright makeup, but lately (after I got UD’s Naked Palette) I have started doing a lot of neutral looks, you can do so many different looks with that palette alone 😀
I’d have to say mine is a soft smoky eye, with a pinkish nude lip. That’s because it’s quick. All the places I’ve worked haven’t had any issues with bright makeup though, so if I have time, I’ll do just about anything.
When I’m in school this fall, I probably won’t do too much if it’s classroom work all day, but if I’m in the lab with clients, I’ll probably rock out at least a little bit 😉
When I wear my glasses I wear absolutely no makeup to work… I’m just so lazy and my glasses shield my face LOL. But since my glasses broke and my face is naked I like to wear Bobbi Brown creamy concealer under my eyes, NARS Powder foundation, NARS bronzer under my cheekbones, temples, etc., lots of black mascara (right now I’m using L’oreal Voluminous in Carbon Black), some clear Revlon brow gel and usually some sheer gloss, Korres lip butter or Blistex! 5 minute face that I can do at my desk if I’m running late 🙂
Dior Parisian Lights e/s palette (light neutrals), Elegant Taupe eyeliner on the upper lash line, Browstyler, Chanel Inimitable mascara – black, UD 24/7 Zero on the waterline, CORALista blush, light pink lip gloss. (I wear whatever I want to work but this is my go-to for interviews, meetings, funerals, etc…)
Eyes:
Nars Smudgeproof eyeshadow base
MAC Paint in Untitled
If I feel like some color, Lorac Glamorous or Serenity or MAC’s Jest with White Frost in inner corner. I like my eyes to shine and be bright!
L’Oreal Voluminous black mascara
Face:
Make Up For Ever HD Primer in shade 1 (green)
Revlon Colorstay Combo/Oily Foundation
NARS Laguna Bronzer and Orgasm Blush
Coastal Scents silica ball powder (MUFE HD powder dupe – and only $4 for a huge container!)
Lips:
Smith’s Rosebud Salve in Minted Rose or Brambleberry Rose
MAC Cremesheen Glass in Partial to Pink OR MAC’s Lickable cremesheen lipstick(sometimes, if I’m feeling sassy!)
I work as a teller at a bank and fortunately by boss allows me to be as colorful as I want (as long as it’s tasteful and done well). I’ve never been a fan of neutrals/work/day looks on me. It’s bright and beautiful everyday for me!!
Oh my gosh, would it be horrible to say my go to look for school is MAC Foundation, with a light peachy blush (Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach), light taupe eyeshadow, and red lipstick? I reach for that almost everyday :)I guess my thing is sort of a mix of Dita Von Tease and Zooey Deschanel, pretty and natural with everything but the lips!
Tame Work = My normal Foundation and Blush (Revlon Colourstay and Mac Eversun) Mac Orb on the lid, Woodwinked in the crease and Nylon as Highlighter.Diorshow on lashes.
MAC Next to Nothing e/s
dark brown pencil liner
brow grooming gel
black mascara (False Lash Effect, Max Factor)
Medium coverage foundation
Little concealer
a touch of loose powder to defeat shine
MAC Intimidate Slim Shine l/s
Office:
light smokey eyes with Armani Quad (No 4 or 5)
concealer
bit of camouflage but no foundation
rosewood lipstick (Chanel Allure Incognito)
So dark eyes are working good when you wear glasses, and at the office I always use creamy lipsticks instead of gloss – gloss is too girly.
