What is the most time consuming part of your beauty routine? Do you love it or hate it?
Skincare, and I actually like it. The reason I like it is at least I feel like I’m *trying* to take good care of my skin, LOL!
Thanks to Heather for today’s question! Got a question idea? Submit yours here.
I have to go with skincare as well, but out of my makeup routine, it would definitely be face stuff like concealer, foundation, powder etc. I hate doing my face make up! I wish I had perfect skin lol.
My nighttime skincare routine! I take off my eye makeup with one product, take off my face makeup with another, then wash my face, tone it, moisturize, put thicker moisturizer on the super dry spots, then use an eye cream and then my acne treatment! It takes forever, but it does work.
Care to share the products you use?
Washing my hair. It’s so thick, it takes forever to rinse!
Probably eyeshadow application. I never like to go without or just slap on 1 color. I really put forth the effort to make it look nice and well blended every morning.
Yeah I have to work pretty hard to get it symmetrical on both sides and well blended and the shape I like.
haha me too!
Being middle eastern… hair removal! Shaving, waxing, tweezing, nairing… and everything grows at different times. Annoying!
Yup, Im puerto rican and I’ve got the same problem! damn hair everywhere!
Seconded! I’m Indian and trying to keep up with everything is a total hassle!
Basic face make up! Prepearing the canvas is worth spending much time on 🙂
Applying eyeshadow. I don’t enjoy it very much 🙁
Eyes, all the way. I love using a lot of colors and blending to perfection is time consuming. I have a loose idea of what I want to do but trying to get it to work out in my eyelids not the same story. Might look cool on my hand in a swatch but bad on the lid.
I know what you mean!! Just because a color looks cool in the pan or swatched on your hand does NOT mean it will look flattering on your eyes
Skincare and then foundation application. I apply it with a damp sponge and try my best to make it look at natural as possible… And that takes time. 🙂
Nails – filing, oiling, shaping, and especially polishing.
I know!! I’d paint my nails far more often if polish didn’t take so long to COMPLETELY dry. Its annoying not having use of your hands while you wait for polish to dry
..also skincare.. because a lot of times i need to cover up a few blemishes..!!
and i really want my skin to be glowy.. that needs a lot of time!
Eye make-up!! I take forever trying to achieve the perfect evenly blended look!
Skincare for me as well! But other than that, filling in my brows. They have to be perfect!
For me its actually eyeshadow – it takes me forever to decide on a combination, carefully put the colors on and blend….however, I enjoy doing my eyemake up anyways:)
For me, it’s my artistic outlet 🙂
Sunscreen. Because it takes me a few minutes to blend it properly into my skin, and another 20 minutes to set in order to get the maximum effective protection. I hate this, because it’s so time consuming, but it’s so necessary (because i’m trying to fade my acne scars asap), so I put up with it.
Filling in my eyebrows. I over-tweezed them when I was younger (as most of us do) and now they don’t grow very well, so I have to fill them in and I feel like it takes forever to get the shape/darkness/thickness right! Not to dark, not too light. Not too thick, not too thin. Making sure they’re relatively even. It drives me nuts! I wish I just had perfect eyebrows. 😉
Have you thought about having permanent makeup for your brows? I’m currently saving up for it. I live in CA but I want to get it done out of state so I have to save for a plane ticket too. I hope it’s worth it!
Straightening my hair! About 5-10 minutes, but still by far the most time consuming.
Omg before I had Keratin Complex Smoothing treatment it would take me more than an hour to blow dry my hair and flat iron it
Applying concealer, then liquid foundation, and then powder. Takes FOREVER to get flawless results. Sometimes I just use concealer and powder because I’m too lazy to be beautiful that day. xD
For now, I’d say my eye makeup. I’m trying to be more careful and meticulous to learn and look more polished xP
Eyebrows! I hate doing them, they take the longest, can be the most frustrating and I don’t go out with out them ever. I wish I had good brows :-\
eyelash curling! stupid poker straight eyelashes take forever to get a curl to hold!
Same here Christine. I take longer caring for my skin then putting on makeup.
The most consuming part of my beauty routine is putting on my makeup. It takes me the longest because I might do my makeup and then decide that I don’t like the look and have to start all over.
Doing all the skin care hands down! I want to go to bed but got to make sure I’ve cleaned and put on all the creams I need first. lol
I spend alot of time on my skincare as well, but makeup wise definately my eyes…I am still perfecting my technique so sometimes it takes me awhile to get things how I want them
Putting on eyeshadow and liner. Skincare isn’t the most time consuming, because I believe simplicity is the best to maintain a clear complexion.
Eyes. Not just application but clean up 😀 I am very messy LOL
I agree with you Christine that it’s skincare, but I feel the same – sure it may take time now, but it’s worth it! My skin is happy almost all the time, and hopefully will be my whole life since I enjoy really taking good care and pride in it.
Eyes….ugh. I’m not very good at them. Eyeliner is so time consuming to get right!
Concealer + Foundation. I long for a day when I can just skip it or not have to take such great detail to hiding blemishes and making my skintone look even.
Eye makeup takes me the longest.
Eyeliner. I want it to be perfect and my eyelids aren’t exactly even so it takes longer than anything else. But you can’t rush it or it just looks bad.
It used to be prepping my ‘canvas’ (skincare, primer, foundation, concealer and powder), but now that my skin is in much better shape I can get ‘er done in half the time. Now I spend a lot of time on my hands and nails. The end result is a salon-worthy manicure, plus it gives me something to do when I can’t sleep.
base makeup for me. I’m still working on clearing my skin(almost there!) so I have alot of scarring to cover up
My skincare and my make-up routine. I don’t have flawless skin but I do try my best to get it as clear as I can and covered with out looking caked on or fake.
Mascara! I’m a ginger so my eyelashes are nearly colorless, but I love dramatic black lashes and liner. I have to really get in there with the mascara to coat every little bit, clean up the smudges, THEN do the rest of my makeup. I’m really thinking about having my lashes tinted again…
Eyes in general.
Eyeshadow – I use at least 3 different colours & blend them as well as possible.
Eyeliner – the line needs to be pretty thin and perfect.
Mascara – not before curling the lashes, and because I use waterproof mascara (an the tend to have pretty watery formula) I usually put on two coats to get some volume.
Funny thing is, that I never really go for only mascara, or mascara&liner or so… It has to be the whole set or nothing. And no eye makeup with flawless skin and some blush isn’t bad at all, I think.
In terms of just the makeup application itself, Mascara! It always takes me forever…:(
My skincare routine and basic makeup application tie….I fight acne AND wrinkles so they take forever, but I like to look nice.
Eye makeup. I do a LOT of it, including false lashes!
Blending. Blending. Blending.
Putting on mascara cause I need my eyelashes to be perfect! Yes, I am crazy like that lol.
Foundation can take me fifteen minutes or so to get just right…which is why I usually skip it. 😛
Applying eye makeup, for sure.
Primer, at least 3 colors of eyeshadow, eyeliner, curled lashes and mascara. The fact that I have OCD issues doesn’t speed this process along!
Tweezing my armpit hair… TMI? Shaving I get ingrowns, sugaring at home is hard in that area and also irritating, don’t have any special tools and can’t really afford to get it taken care of professionally.
I’d love to get the laser hair removal on my pits!
Probably either applying foundation or eyeshadow. Foundation takes a while most days because I loathe anything shinier than a matte finish. So it’s a five-six step process. Illamasqua Matt Primer is a miracle product for me, though it makes foundation take longer because it doesn’t work as well if you don’t give it time to sink in. Also, depending on which foundation I use, I either have to set it or not, and the foundation determines whether I set with loose powder (more time consuming) or pressed.
Eyes, though, only take time if I’m trying something new. That, and since I prefer having flawless skin over ueber-complex eye make-up, if I’m short on time I’ll generally do a simple wash of colour, with eyeliner and mascara.
My skincare routine is pretty time consuming, but my haircare is even crazier! It’s so long, and even though I am blonde, I am half Italian and my Grandmother instilled in us some pretty strict routines to keep hair healthy. It gets a little nuts.
Definitely skincare but the result’s worth it :]
My hair because it is really long
Eye makeup. I need everything — shadow, liner and mascara every time I do eye makeup. I love doing eye looks though so I always make sure I have time for it. I will go without face makeup if I run out of time.
Filling my eyebrows, it’s hard to balance both sides.
My nightly skincare routine, removing my makeup, cleansing my face, exfoliating and then moisturizing – the whole routine takes almost 22 minutes for my boyfirend often tells me how long I was in the bathroom.
My skin is so dry so I’m moisturizing everything constantly. It really annoys me sometimes!
putting on eyeshadow is the most time consuming for me because i usually just go with my instincts on what to combine so it takes me quite awhile to decide and blend them all together!
Hair straightening and concealer! It takes so long to look right!
