What is the difference between a good and great foundation for you?
If it wears for closer to 10 hours and has a nice wear down/fade, it usually becomes a go-to for me, if it was already meeting my other criteria.

A great foundation is versatile, I can get light coverage sheered our, but I can build to full coverage if needed. A great foundation can double up as a concealer. A great foundation lasts to a mud race, not only a work day (still not proud of some of my 20s choices 😆 ).
I found that great foundation 3 times, too bad one died with the brand.
1. If I can get away with using less rather than more. Good foundations (I prefer light to med coverage) can get the job done in a single pump.
2. Lasts all day, looking consistent, without gathering into lines
3. Does not polka dot or streak
A nice skin-like finish with buildable coverage that I can dial down or go more medium-full coverage. Also, one that lasts all day without breaking up or going patchy/streaky, which is a big deal on those days where I have to go out and it’s over 100°F and the dewpoint/humidity is high.
Do I feel like I am wearing foundation?
It has to dry down well, not oxidize, and leave my skin at least the same if not better than it would have been without foundation. The new “skincare” foundations have made me set the bar a little higher than just “doesn’t break me out.”
The difference between a good and great foundation is how it matches my porcelain skin tones and does it have a natural kind of finish – not dewy, not overly matte. Also, I do want it to last the full 10 hours of the day without oxidising.
A great foundation will have a color and undertone match for me. The formula will have great longevity with my oily skin (8+ hours), meaning it won’t oxidize and break up. If full coverage, it won’t feel heavy and mask-like. It won’t settle into my forehead lines .
