Quite awhile ago I answered a question that was related to products that are no longer available but which we would like to see back and I mentioned a childhood memory of the perfume “Ben Hur” which was sold in drugstores back in the day. I can remember when I was about 7 buying a little bottle of it from a Coronet store in San Clemente, California as a Christmas present for my mother. Recently I was surfing the net and ran across a company that makes/produces classic fragrances and one of the fragrances they offered was “Ben Hur”. I purchased the tester size as I wasn’t sure if my memory of the scent would be anywhere near accurate and also wasn’t sure if this production would result in something that was even close to the original perfume. So, I received it about 2 weeks ago and I am really loving it. I don’t know if it is really similar to the original perfume but it is the same as my memory. Now, I am thinking I will get a bottle of it for my Mom for her birthday!

The website is called Surrender To Chance and apparently there are 3 or 4 woman that reproduce the scents and so orders may arrive split up if you order more than one scent. Hope you find what you are looking for. I am going to look at a couple other scents I remember from my teen years that both my sister and I liked to wear and see if I can find one for her for her birthday.

I’ve been obsessed this and last month with Zara’s Sunrise Rose EDT. It’s got a lovely rose and bergamot scent that’s very fresh and heady. The lasting power could be better but I enjoy the slight whiffs I get of it on my shirt throughout the day.

Hey!!

My favourite DC one is Moroccan Rose from The Body Shop.

But I’v been alternating between Tory Burch Jolie Fleur Rose, which is lighter and more feminine and soft. But still has lasting power,

I’v also been using a lot of Versace Bright Crystal, it doesn’t promote its self as a rose perfume, but It smells almost exactly like my favourite Moroccan Rose!!

My fav has been a tie between Chloe Chloe and Bvlgari Omnia. Although I have allergies to scents I have a little drawer of sample size fragrances to try and Nirvana Black is nice but also all of the Derek Lams too.

I alternate quite often but I have been wearing MAC Velvet Teddy the past few days. I can’t wear scents at work, but I do at home. It’s a rich, leathery winter scent with a hint of floral on me.

Lately it’s been Jo Malone’s Basil & Neroli. I think the unusual and total freezing cold of Portland has been getting to me (and also bad for my chronic pain) so I’m wearing it as a sort of “spring please come” even though I hate hot, sunny weather…

Anne, I feel your pain about the weather! And I thought I was the only one who isn’t a big fan of being blasted by heat! I like being warm but anything getting too close to 90 is too much!

A lighter scent that I’ve used for years is Victoria Secret’s Body Mist “Pure Seduction.” I’m a chameleon when it comes to evening fragrances, but recently used Miu Miu.

My two favourite fragrances of all time – Guerlain Nahema and Guerlain L’Heuure Bleu.

Both hard to get in Australia. I have to order them in and they cost a fortune!

I supplement them with Opium in winter and Le Jardins de Bagatelle (Guerlain) in summer.

Nirvana black is my current obsession as well. I love to layer the oil, perfume and dry shampoo. The dry shampoo smells slightly different but equally lovely.

YSL Black Opium is my new favorite! But, I also love Bvulgari “Red Tea” and my everyday scent is EL Beautiful Sheer. The regular Beautiful is just so heavy and floral, the sheer version has been my go to now for 6 years.

Maison Margiela Replica “Beach Walk” & Tea escape, Dancing on the moon, and flying. I love all the Replica perfumes but these are my most worn.

A classic. My very first perfume was Shalimar, so memories come back every time I smell it. I do still love it; I should pick some up come to think of it.

Deborah Avatar

It was my first perfume too! I purchased the Shalimar body powder recently and I am telling you it takes me to another place and time! It smells so good I have a backup LOL!!

Jenny H Avatar

Decided to buy Shalimar for myself as I used to buy this for my mom when I was a teenager. I love it! I’ve also been wearing Black Opium a lot lately.

I alternate between dolce and gabanna light blue, Marc Jacobs daisy, and Chanel Chance eau tendre. Also commodity Book, it’s a lovely musky library smell. I wear scent based on my mood and not the season.

Even though I’m a Jo Malone junkie, I’ve been loving MAC’s Candy Yum-Yum! It’s smells so pretty. Who would have thought?! And I’ve just been using the samples from orders.

& Alien…?
…ever since they took away my beloved Miss Cherie Dior, I’ve been searching for a new HG perfume. Alien & Stella have made my list so far, but I’ve yet to love anything like Miss Dior Cherie (whichever way it was written). I wish they never changed it…?

I’m ready for Spring!!!!! So I’m breaking out the florals-
Forest Essential’s Madhurai Jasmine- Beautifully simple jasmine soliflore. Not indolic or heavy at all. Simply fresh & beautiful.
Orangers en Fleurs Eau de Parfum by Houbigant- Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Somehow manages to smell retro as well as modern. Everything a ‘white flowers’ perfume should be. This not an orange blossom soliflore nor in the typical ‘orange blossom- white flower- woods- musk’ domain either. This takes all of the orange tree (blossoms, leaves, shoots, oil) as well as ylang, rose, tuberose, & jasmine spiced with the notes of nutmeg & cedar & rounds it out with a clean musk to create an entirely new floral! Not overly sweet, heavy, cloying or ‘disinfectant’ smelling as some orange blossom/white flower perfumes can be. Beautifully rich & complex yet clean & sparkling at once. Very similar to Serge Lutens’ Fleurs D’ Oranger but without the skanky cumin note. Was only available at Bergdorf Goodman but Houbigant failed to promote it well so it flopped. You’ll find it marked down to half it’s original price online & in duty free shops now. Bargain!

There’s three I have recently fallen in love with! Paris Hilton’s Gold Rush. I have been wearing that and just ran out. But I also get a lot of samples and I loved Nirvana Bourbon and Viva La Juicy enough to buy the full size right away! I was sure Nirvan Bourbon was it for me until I smelled Viva La Juicy. Now I realize I’m torn.

Heather Avatar

I’m a Scentbird girl, so I get a new fragrance every month. For a long time it was Gucci Bamboo. Until last month. I got Moschino Fresh & I’ve been wearing it nonstop ever since.

Carol Bundy Avatar

I love the new Tori Burch Love Relentlessly. It’s more of a spring fragrance, but it smells so good. When the weather is cold/snowy I have been wearing Narcisco Rodriguez.

I normally don’t like rose scents as they can be quite old ladyiwh, but my husband got me the Elizabeth & James nirvana rollerball set for Christmas. I previously had Elizabeth & James Nirvana Bourban and adored it. Nirvana rose smells like honey and roses to me. So good! In my Glossybox this month, I received a bottle of Jeanne Arthes L’Eau de Rose perfume. Previous to Nirvana Rose, I would never have worn this scent, but I am now starting to really like scents with rose in them.
