I usually go through old makeup campaign promos – sometimes they do really fun things!

Organize my drawer so that I can see what I forgot I had. It almost feels feels like I just went on a shopping spree in Nordstroms beauty department again. 😛

I spice up my makeup routine by reaching for items that I haven’t used in a while. I also try to recreate looks I have seen in Youtube makeup tutorials.

I will add in a pop of another shadow shade as accent. I will pull in a liner over my more ‘normal’ liners that adds a pop. Or of late, I am getting brave and going with no liner or a liner that is not in the typical for me at all and giving myself a whole softer look vs. a more defined liner that is typical of me.

Honestly Christine, your site has helped me learn about a lot of new brands I wouldn’t of otherwise tried. Mainly Deborah Lippmann Nail Polishes (THE BEST) and Le Metier De Beaute (stunning, unique colors and so freakishly smooth.) So I ordered a lot of the things you liked (the swatches help so much)…and it’s made my makeup routine a lot more fun!! Thank You!!

YAY! My question! 😀 I look through old magazines to see what was in style during the 90’s and early 2000’s then try to bring those old looks back to life.

i put all of the makeup ive been using too often in a plastic bag and leave it there for a month. that forces me to “shop my collection” and discover new favs. plus it makes me sad to see neglected makeup

amanda Avatar

aah! this is an awesome idea!! isnt it sad that i actually felt bad when i thought of “neglected makeup” lol… gosh, you know we’re obsessed when…..

I follow a ton of bloggers and get inspired from their looks. Random fabric designs are inspirational too. When I clean up my makeup table and find palettes I haven’t used in awhile I will incorporate them into a look. Also, I will google or search flickr for a specific color and see what awesome pics pop up…

I try to wear an eyeshadow or lipstick color I havent worn in a while. Like, I’ll try to wear blue eye shadow for 2-3 days in a week. Just to spice it up. 🙂

I look at the swatch pages of make-up I made in my sketchbook, pick a colour I haven’t used in ages, and coordinate the rest of my make-up look according to that shade!

Flipping through a recent fashion magazine is also very inspiring. I especially like Allure — they always seem to have such nice make-up features.

Sometimes, I just grab some random colors and make myself work with what I’ve got. Or, I’ll look through my archives (that sounds super-fancy, but it’s just a bunch of files on my computer and a pile of magazines) of fashion and beauty photography.

Using a coloured liner rather than my standard black, brown or blue/black. Just using a jade green liner or MAC’s Birds and Berries as a liner makes a real difference. And like Nadia, I’ll try new looks I’ve seen in YouTube tutorials (that’s how I discovered YouTube…looking for ways to use some of the products I have!)

I try to find inspiration from things around me. Maybe this week I’ll create looks that are inspired by starbucks drinks or maybe a movie or tv show I’ve been obsessed with. Game of Thrones anyone? I also find reorganizing my drawer helps a lot.

i wear a bold/bright lip or add some glitter to my lids to spice things up. when i’m in the right mood, i’ll even throw on a pair of dramatic falsies.

Even if I’m temtped to use the same quad/palette/single shadow two days in a row, I force myself to try another! I always rotate through my eyeshadows. The rest of my makeup look follows whatever I’m doing with my eyes that day. Keeps me on my toes!

use sugarpill, just one chromalust color, with the others eyeshadow I own. i have 10 chromalust shades so the variety is there. for example mac satin taupe with sugar pill weekender.
