Right now basically nothing because health issues means makeup is difficult to do and carrying things is tough, but I have a few things. I keep a Burt’s Bees lipbalm on hand always, and I have a Travalo rollerball with Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt in it (even when I can barely walk, I can put on fragrance, which is awesome). I have a travel-sized La Roche-Posay Anthelios sunscreen I got with a fullsize in case I need SPF and I also keep a mini pop-up Wet Brush (the Wet Pop lol) along with a comb, some hair ties, etc. I used to keep a lipstick and a lipgloss, as well as mascara, a setting powder and some hand cream, but it got too heavy so those are out for now. Hopefully I’ll be able to slowly add them back in with time.

Surratt diaphane loose powder compact (the shade matte): So freaking gossamer fine. It goes on like nothing. Hard to tell you are actually applying powder until you see the results. It mattifies in a very gentle way. Count me amazed. Perhaps not best choice for someone with oily skin, but certainly an optimal find for an older ‘gell’ comme moi. Downside: expensive because not much product in cartridge. I also have the eclatant shade which has a super subtle shimmer finish (think Guerlain meteorites). I use the matte around my nose forehead and chin and the shimmer everywhere else. I lean towards a dewy look for my base.

Korres Lip butter in jasmine

Yesterday’s lipstick: Dolce & Gabbana shine lipstick in shade 145 Baby Darling. I went with a very nude subtle light goldish (inspired by the MAC patina post) and bronzed look yesterday and this lipstick is a warm pink with champagne gold shimmer.

GA ETK liquid eyeliner in shade 02 a dirty light gold. I also have shade 03 a shimmery taupe. These were LE and I covet them sooo sooo much.

Apologies for the TMI: I was very enthused about my uber minimal super summery look yesterday

I enjoyed it! I’ve been eyeing the Surratt powder for awhile and you gave me the info I needed to pull the trigger on both, more so than any review from bloggers I’ve read because we share similar “age” and sensibilities when it comes to foundation finishes. Thanks!!!

Wednesday Avatar

Hope it works perfectly for you, Lisa. 😀 I think both are fantastic. I used to use La Mer powder before the Surratt. I really liked the non-powdery soft focus finish to the La Mer, but I think the Surratt is superior. It’s so incredibly lightweight. I does not affect or change your foundation colour either..so important!

Girl, you have a makeup bag on the tractor? Y/Y. Awesome. Good luck with the sun protection, boy do you need it. That’s critical.

It seems idyllic, right? I could type pages. It is incredibly challenging. Our best laid careful planning can come crashing down courtesy of Mother Nature. There are so many variables which are completely outside our immediate control. While there is a sh*tpiile of animal science and crop science involved in what we do, we do still answer to Mother Nature. The goats’ health is paramount and we do not subscribe to a mass produced pelleted feed ration program. We strive to have our animals’ diet as close to natural as possible. This changes everything and creates more physical work, money, and planning on our parts. That extra we do for our animals makes zilch difference to our raw milk broker..sadly..so It’s completely thankless. But, WE know; feel very passionate about what we do.

Oh and city people like to try and kill us while we are on the road, give us the finger, open their windows and yell at us because we are holding them up on their trip to their cottage and because we are only allowed (by law..which they seem not to be familiar) to travel 40km an hour with a slow moving vehicle sign on the back of our farm equipment. Last year I got so sick of the constant abuse during haying season, I designed these cute Goat Farm signs to put on the back of our equipment with the following in big letters at the bottom:

Goat Cheese starts here: Thank you for your Patience.

It helped somewhat. Eyeroll.

At this point: Despite living in the big city for most of my life, I now hate being anywhere near it; total duck out of water..the noise, the smell. I feel stiffled, unsettled, and in some cases almost claustrophobic. We live on a dead end road and cannot see a single neighbour… not a one.. so..

I’ve always worked independently even during my professional technogeek work. I’m hyper driven and never satisfied with good enough so I’m not at all easy to work beside. So seemingly my former bosses had this figured out. Hairball is far more easy going. Nicer. It works. We love it and that’s that 😀

Nobody wants our life. We don’t want theirs either. Teehee!!

Korres lip butter is amazing! I had one in Plum and it seems like they stoped selling this shade. I’m really upset abut it :((

Oh dear, looks like I need to check out that Surratt powder! I’ve been looking for a light powder during winter for my drier, more mature skin. Do you have to buy the Suratte compact, or can you just buy the refill ? I was planning to use the refill at home, then use a regular compact powder just to touch up the T zone during day. But can you also travel with just the refill?

Wednesday Avatar

Yup Katherine, you can just buy the refill, but it is very flimsy so you would need to put it in a container of some sort with a cover over it so you do not lose the precious cargo.. there isn’t a lot there. When you open for the first time, you pull off a tape style cover over the mesh dispensing area.. my concern: without a compact, you would have no cover over the product itself. I don’t know how reuseable that tape would be. I definitely wouldn’t travel with it. Being stupid optimistic, I picked up two of the compacts to go with the powder. Fortunately, it worked out and I love the product 😀

Katherine T. Avatar

Ok, gotcha! It’s just like their blush –ridiculously expensive for teeny tiny amounts of product, and the refill is so flimsy that you have to pay extra for the compact (what a scam), but that La Vie En Rouge blush is so pretty, and the closest I can get to my natural flush. Sigh. Ok, I have the Surratt powder (and maybe the compact) on my list for next Sephora sale in fall/winter. Thanks for the tip!

I only have a hard candy velvet mousse lip stain in cherry blossom. I don’t keep much makeup in my bag at a time. I don’t want things to break or go bad so I take things out. My hard candy lip product needs to come out lol

Rachel R. Avatar

I keep some basic neutral makeup in my bag. Between having a son with severe mental illness and aging relatives, we frequently end up at hospitals on short notice. Once there, you end up waiting around for hours, of course, so I do my makeup during the down time.

Right now I have: Blistex Medicated Lip Balm, eos Lip Balm in Summer Fruit, a compact with regular & magnifying mirrors, blotting papers, e.l.f. Perfect Finish HD Powder (pressed version compact), e.l.f. Makeup Remover Pen, travel-sized Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Mascara, black Cynthia Rowley mini eyeliner pencil, e.l.f. eyeshadow quad in Brownstone, e.l.f. Mineral Blush in Sweet Retreat, e.l.f. Long Lasting Lipliner in Mauve Luxe, e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer, a shimmer mauve Milani lipgloss (color name is worn off), cosmetic pencil sharpener, mini face & eye brushes, and a lipstick brush.

I usually keep my lip colors and eyeliner of the day in my bag, but I take them out at the end of the day.

KJH Avatar

Have one, but don’t seem to use it, or even a pocketbook these days. Occ throw a l/s in a pocket, what’s on, or a sheer version of the same color. Only have one 7 hour day; the rest are shorter, day or night job. And that day is usually non makeup. Not much time/need to touch up.

It is a great day for this question as I purged my purse yesterday removing probably 20 lipsticks. I carry a small face mist which I make myself based on a recipe from an Asian beauty blogger and made without water so you can control the quality of ingredients and the amount and type of scent. An Estee Lauder mirror, Pearl Jam Lip Pop, Smith’s Rosebud Salve for lips, Nuxe Riev de Miel lip salve, KVD Lockit Foundation in Light 42 which is too dark for me but I use just under my jaw for a subtle shading, Colore Science Sunforgettable Broad Spectrum SPF 30 powder**, Benefit Lip Liner, UD Ozone, Lorac Highly Pigmented Lipstick in Seductress, Elizabeth Arden Sunset Bronze Prizmatic Lipgloss in Midnight Kiss(chunky glitter so beware), Issey Miyake Perfume Roller Ball, Q-tips, Elf makeup remover pen and tweezers.
**Just a quick note about the Sunforgettable in case anyone is interested and not familiar. This is a powder sunscreen that comes in it’s own sealed compartment with a roll up brush. You simply tap the brush and the powder filters down through the brush and then is swept over the face. It is water resistant up to 80 minutes and is a loose mineral sunscreen containing Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. I think it comes in 3 or 4 colors. I am very fair and use the shade fair and don’t really notice it darkening my skin tone. It is the perfect way to touch up sunscreen during the day as needed.

Katherine T. Avatar

Deborah, I’m curious about that home-made facial mist, as I have such a hard time finding ones without alcohol or fragrance, or if I do, it doesn’t come in travel size, or the full sizse container won’t open up, so I can pour into a smaller one. Can you provide me the name of the blog, so I can google it and check it out? Thanks!

Great question and excuse to take stock of/clear out some of the stuff in here!

Clean&Clear oil absorbing sheets, a small Altoid tin full of bobby pins (it’s the perfect size), a travel mirror from Sephora (the one that comes with the gift cards), MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Light Plus, a Bobbi Brown travel powder brush, Loreal True Match concealer crayon (I hate it, I’d love a recommendation for a good stick concealer), Supergoop Defense Refresh Setting Mist with Rosemary SPF 50, Lancome Juicy Shaker in Walk the Lime, Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Heftiest Hibiscus, Visine, Dial hand sanitizer, Tide To Go pen, and 3 Chapsticks.

Definitely cleaning this sucker out!

I have only one thing which is permanent in my bag at the Moment. Blotting paper in a nice case with a mirror from a korean Brand. But they sell it also at sephora.
The other things change Daily depending on what I am wearing on that day. But usually I only take the lipstick I have on in my bag.
