What beauty brand and collaborator would you love to see work together?

I’d love to see more inspiration from Disney villains, and I’d prefer to see it tied to a mid-to-high-end brand, like Urban Decay, who I think could do a good job with colors, textures, and not be limited by certain colors.

Haha MAC already did a Disney Villains collection. A good one so another brand taking that on would always come off as a copy cat and inferior. No offense. I cannot really think of a celeb I’d like see do a collab with a beauty brand bc I think literally every celeb has had some collaboration of some sort. A Charlie’s Angels themed collection or special 90s supermodel collection would be cool. Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbel, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista have their own colors/products. I’d be on that!

Erica Avatar

Btw not trying to knock you but so sick of Disney. Villain or otherwise. Disney has been everywhere from lip smackers to Sephora to MAC to ELF. What is there new to do there lol. Oh well to each her own:)

Rebecca Avatar

The MAC Collab was sub par. It wasn’t well executed at all. I agree Urban Decay would be far better as they like to push the boat out regarding the different finishes and I can only imagine the packaging.

Bernadette Avatar

great idea! Id love to see that, beautiful women who aren’t 20. I think ithat campaign would be very successful, especially with mature consumers

Nancy T Avatar

An 80’s Rock Chic collection! Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett are the first 3 to come to mind, I would have also loved Whitney Houston, but that would have to be posthumously. And I’d love to see Urban Decay or MAC take it on, because both brands evoke a bad@$$ Rocker Chic type of mood and imagery. Both push that proverbial envelope and could definitely bring it.

Pearl Avatar

Not really collaborator, more like a theme, but . . .

MAC x Charlie’s Angels – the collection could be lots of lashes, sheer washes of colors for eyes and cheeks and sheer, glossy lips and collectable packaging

MAC x 90s Sirens (or Supermodels, Faces, something like that), and the spokesmodels would be Linda Evangelista and/or Christy Turlington and/or Cindy Crawford, etc. – the collection could be lots of dramatic, contoured eyes (mostly mattes) and brown/beige nude lips (glosses, satins, mattes), ‘iconic’ packaging

MAC x I ❤ the 80s – the collection could include lots of vibrant colors with a few different finishes (mostly shimmers), collectable packaging

MAC x The Sugar Shoppe or some kind of candy store theme (the names and packaging . . .so much fun and so many options), this could be a fun right-after-the-holidays collection, like the Fairy collection was this year

MAC x Diners, Dudes and Dames/Dolls with an old fashioned diner and soda fountain annnnd now I want a hot fudge sundae

It would come down to marketing and packaging because just about every color and texture has been done over and over. This was a fun question, Nancy T.!

Julia Avatar

I looove the Sugar Shoppe idea! There would be so many great textures and finishes (SHIMMER! SPARKLE!), and I don’t think I’d be able to resist the packaging! Actually, I feel like MAC does “kooky” well enough that they could even do a whole Willy Wonka collection… they could have colors like Golden Ticket, Snozzberries, Violet, You’re Turning Violet!, and Chocolate Waterfall ?

These r some Great ideas. I am 80s high school grad and married BITH in 86. So that would be cool. Have to do Blues. Because that and pink was a big part. They r bringing draping out I saw from several places. Which is what we did then with Covergirl blushes that came in three times of pinks and peaches etc. but I like the Diana fountain the BEST and the Sugar one. But last Mac I bought was Cinderella and very disappointed in the lipsticks and compacts. Never again from them. Only thing I liked was eye shadow palette.

Pearl Avatar

Yes, some of the MAC collections are hit and miss. I remember the eye gloss from the Cinderella collection was a total miss for me, too.

Yes to the blues and pinks and shimmers! It could be the bubblegum candy shade!

I like to see MUFE do another collaboration. They have one of the best shadow formulas on the market, and a huge range of colors for eyes/lips/cheeks. They did an awesome job with the 50 Shades of Grey collection – a lot of people were turned off by the theme, but the makeup and packaging were top notch, they had value kits at every price point, the colors were very wearable, it was promoted well, and there was a steady supply of stock. I know Cover Girl has done it before, but I’d like to see MUFE do something outrageously creative, with a Hunger Games or Star Trek collection, or maybe Game of Thrones.

Heather Avatar

I would buy the heck out of a MUFE Hunger Games, GoT or Star Trek collaboration.

Also, I want a quality brand to do a Star Wars collab. Pretty please?

Julia Avatar

Covergirl has the licensing rights to Star Wars, so I don’t think we’ll see it from any prestige brands any time soon, unfortunately! Usually the license is restricted to one manufacturer per product category (at least it is in my industry).

Joyce Chitwood Avatar

That sounds Grrat To me. Because as a reviewer u know who ever makes will feel pressure to bring out a good products that pass ur inspection. This is the BEST idea yet. I’m all for it. Need it be very affordable like Drugstore prices. Like 20$ palette with ;-6 shadows. And lipsticks about 10$ I could actually get some. Depending on budget but if they keep it stocked for more than a month or so. That would help me a lot. Recently single mom after 30yrs of marriage. Not to mention Cancer survivor/fighter. Not curable been dong it off and on for 13 and half yrs. NHL but it’s slow growing kind so that has helped me a lot. Had a cpl way too close calls. But attitude helps so much. I have a good one and friendly. Helped when spent 4mo. In Houston, Tx for a bone marrow transplant.

My favourite collaborations are MAC, so I’d like to see a release geared toward iconic women in music from the past with distinct styles represented. I know they do this all the time with current artists, but it would be neat to pay homage to the innovators who came before and paved the way for these artists. My #1 is Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxie and the Banshees, but Joan Jett or Blondie could be fun. Special packaging is a must!

markiebamboo Avatar

They used to do an Icons series with Diana Ross, Raquel Welch, Liza Minnelli. I wish they would continue doing this. Or maybe a music icons series. I would love to see a Siouxsie collection or Debbie Harry collection. MAC collections have been so uninspired lately.

I would love for them to go back to thier roots and do a RuPaul collection. Maybe feature some of the RuPaul’s Drag Race stars who have distinct makeup looks like Kim Chi, Raven, or Bianca Del Rio.

Chloe Avatar

Sugarpill is doing a collab with Kim Chi. They only have one eyeshadow so far, but I’m fairly certain there will be a lipstick as well. Hopefully more!

Anne Avatar

I’d like to see a generational campaign — the same collection designed for 3 different generations and creatively applied on all 3 in suitable ways. Makeup isn’t just for the young. As for the beauty brand — I don’t have a clue (the smartest one, probably) but pretty makeup sells at any age. But, super trendy makeup is swallowing up the industry, imo, and I’m tired of all the collections and collaborations that are apparently being released one after the other to out-trendy the latest trendy collection of their competition. When trendiest and predictable intersect, I say, “Enough! This stuff isn’t trendy; it’s ridiculous!” Rant over.

Pearl Avatar

I hear you about the trends. At the same time, I’m actually kind of relieved that I am aging out of certain kinds/styles/finishes/application techniques – I’ve got it narrowed down to only a few brands, few finishes, few colors. I don’t really have any use for the wave of strobes/highlighter colors or the editorial brights (could the 80’s be making a comeback???) by and large unless I want to gift them.

I like your idea of a generational campaign. I think companies only targeting a certain demographic and heavily marketing the trend-of-the-moment/season alienate most other customer bases, myself included. I’ll always find something at MAC, though ?

AB Avatar

Something that leans to the classic and wear-at-all-ages approach… like Chanel (which I feel has lost it’s ‘classics’ way, a pity) and like a Garance Dore or other French-type, hip but elegant esthetic.

Dianne Avatar

Ohhh I like your idea! Kind of continuing on that idea, I would like to see some major brands do quality collections based on pop culture/fandoms. I know a lot of indie brands do this, but I like to be able to see and test the colors and quality in store before I buy, and you can’t really do that with indie brand products.

Mo Avatar

You know I’m not into collaboration ls but a Disney Villain would be nice. I’m not a MAC fan so an Urban Decay or even a Smashbox or Kat Von D Disney Villain would be nice. I’d love a Maleficent lipstick!!

As far as celebs and beauty bloggers collaborations it’s not my thing. It actually annoys me especially with Colour Pop. IDKY.. It just does.

Alice Avatar

(1) A “decades” collection that had a few pieces or a kit for each decade relating to underground fashions scenes – like 60s mod, 70s punk, 80s glam/rock, 90s grunge, 00s cyberpunk…

(2) MAC or Urban Decay doing a “horror” collection inspired by the classic Universal Monsters. (I’d also love to see an indie brand do a Hellraiser collection.)

(3) Comic book inspired. I’d especially love an X-Men collection, a Wonder Woman collection, or a female villains collection. Hayley Atwell has said what cosmetics she used on set for Agent Carter and most were Besame, so I’d love to see Besame do a Peggy Carter collection too!

Lizzi Avatar

I’d love for MAC and Criag McCraken to do a Powerpuff Girls collection!!!

Also, UD did a Pulp Fiction mini collection for the movies 20th anniversary. I would love to see a Big Lebowski mini collection for that 20th anniversary. Pulp Fiction and that are my two favorite movies. Has to have a red toned shadow called ‘the rug’. Lol!!

LindaP Avatar

The thing that comes to mind is a post/present inspiration — can’t think of a collaboration. I’d love a Chanel, Guerlain, or Dior (you know, an iconic, classic house) to do an inspired theme of timelessness ala Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Princess Diana, up to and including Kate Middleton, Halle Berry, and Keira Knightley. (Audrey and Grace and immutable, I could negotiate the rest. 🙂 )

Janie Avatar

UD did a collab a while back with a prominent drag queen (I remember her face but not her name) – considering the Pulse Orlando debacle, it’d be nice to see them do another and donate a percentage of each sale to the gofundme for Pulse. They might pull in other smaller boutique brands as well, ones known for their flash and dash – Armour Beauty, OCC, Lime Crime, Coloured Raine… other Brit and Aussie niche makers might be possibilities. Live Love Polish (multiple brands, unusual nail colors & finishes) might make a good partner as well.

Honestly, this year has seen so much awfulness, maybe a collab could offer buyers a choice of beneficiaries. ? Sorry to be a downer!

Bea Avatar

I don’t know if anyone would be honest enough to admit it, and I’m NO celebrity, but: how ’bout ME and let’s say, any major brands [both low & high-end]? I’ve been involved with make-up (sales, classes, application) for a long time, and NOT to sound cocky, but I’d like to think I have some good thoughts on the matter.

Diana Puckett Avatar

I’d like to see more Collabs between Youtubers and makeup companies like kathleenlights. I’d love to see emilynoel83 and Tati do a collab

Lizzy Avatar

I definitely second more Disney collabs with Urban Decay. I’d love to see more princesses too! MAC did such a beautiful job with Cinderella, I’m waiting for more. Another thought is having J.Lo collab with someone like Kat Von D! KVD needs to collab with another strong and successful woman like herself.

Lulle Avatar

I don’t follow celebrities so a collection curated by a current celeb wouldn’t do much for me, besides the quality of the product or the appeal of the shades. If a mainstream brand such as MAC or UD did a collection inspired by 90s grunge bands though, now that would get me excited!

Kaitlyn Avatar

I may just be a disney fanatic, but I would also love to see really good disney princess collections. Sleeping Beauty – Laura Mercier or maybe Guerlain, Little Mermaid – Urban Decay, Beauty and the Beast – Anastasia, Snow White – Besame, etc….

Mika Avatar

I would like to see Jackie Ania do a collaboration with Colourpop, Makeup geek and Lancôme. And not just a lipstick but a collection of lipstick, eyeshadow and liner.

Sally Avatar

I am in my 50’s and I love makeup, but some times it is sad when most of YouTube vids and cosmetic company’s show make up on young models or younger people, or if they do use older people the makeup is bland and boring. I love colour and sparkle and glamour. But some YouTube vids say you can’t use colour or shimmer etc and I say why not ? Show me how I can not how I can’t.

Nigerian Girl Avatar

1) MAC and Beyonce (It’ll sell out in seconds).
2) ColourPop and Jackie Aina (I wonder what’s taking them so long).
3) MAC and Me (Not the movie, but me, i.e. myself 🙂 ).

MissJae1908 Avatar

I would love to see more brands reach out to WOC for collaborations. I’m dying for Jackie Aina and Lancome to do a line together. It would be spectacular!

Caroline Avatar

MAC x I Love Snoopy would be good. 🙂
I’d also like to see a Golden Age Of Hollywood collab (not necessarily by MAC, though), inspired by the likes of Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, Rita Hayworth, Clara Bow etc. Lots of rich golds and sumptuous reds!

RMW (Rose) Avatar

Hi Temptalia,

– I think the different Rock Era’s would be a total sell out. It hasn’t been done before. Start in the 1920’s, all the way to 2016. It would be a sell out and well worth the money. ?

Anne Avatar

Now that there are things like Harry Potter World, I’m assuming Disney has merchandising rights for Harry Potter, and I’d love to see some Hogwarts House themed stuff! Especially with the metallic trend coming in and blue lipstick already in, a blue Ravenclaw lipstick, green Slytherin one, gold lipstick for either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff (or red for G and brown-toned for H) and some palettes that go with them could be really cool! Also I am a huge nerd.

Laura Avatar

Oh, I agree with Vivienne Westwood and a beauty brands, maybe Urban Decay or Illamasqua? I’m not really into celebrities. I would really like a horror themed collab, especially Silent Hill, maybe with Kat Von D, Illamasqua or Urban Decay?

Ava Avatar

Even though Mac did a Disney villains collection I’d like to see urban decay do that also. I can only imagine the colors and the packaging.
