Lipglosses | 2014 Editor's Favorites
I tend to like my lipgloss to be rather pigmented, and for the rare occasions I fall in love with a gloss that isn’t pigmented, it’s usually ridiculously sparkly. This list definitely reflects those preferences! 🙂 I hope to hear from you about your personal faves!
- Chanel Crazy Fuchsia — a slightly muted, fuchsia-raspberry with shimmer and full color coverage
- NARS Corisca — a muted, rosy pink with subtle gold shimmer and mostly opaque coverage
- MAC Clear Water — a dazzling, ultra-sparkly gloss
- Chanel Audace — a muted, plummy brown with fine gold shimmer
- Marc Jacobs Beauty Gone Bad (216) — a bright, neon orange-red with opaque color coverage
- Illamasqua Touch — a bright red with light shimmer and mostly opaque pigmentation
- Hourglass Ballet — a brightened, light-medium pink with blue undertones and a creamy, glossy shine
- Marc Jacobs Beauty Boom Boom — a bright, fuchsia pink with shimmer
- Chanel Affriolant (13) — a light-medium, coral-pink with very fine shimmer
- OCC Aurora — a light-medium, yellow-toned pink with a subtle shine (I loved it, despite it not quite living up to claims)

Oh, gosh these are all amazing picks. I don’t wear a ton of glosses. This year for higher-end glosses, I’ve been loving MAC Explicit and Kinky, UD Lip Junkie in Flushed and Strip. Budget glosses: e.l.f.’s Essential Shimmer Lipglosses, Bourjois Effect 3D Lipgloss in Beige Elastic (terrible name, gorgeous ultra-shimmery gloss), Max Factor MAXalicious in Just a Crush, Nyx Butter Glosses.
Both nice MAC shades! 😀
I really like they’re sparkly glosses, but I don’t own many. I got Rihanna2 for Christmas, and I think that’s going to be a favorite this coming year.
I also like to wear their Plushglass in Oversexed over Max Factor lipstick in Hipster. It keeps the super-vampy lipstick from making me look like a corpse, and the color match is spot on. It’s amazing how a little bit of shine can make all the difference.

This year I quite enjoyed the Nyx butter glosses. I also love all the glosses from the Mac alluring aquatic collection, ver unique and pretty.
Oh and I discovered the beauty that is nars Priscilla!
Do you wear the NYX Butter Glosses alone or layered, Karen?
I wear them alone, some of them have fantastic pigmentation, for a gloss they are quite nice and moisturizing. They aren’t terribly long wearing, but I don’t mind that for the price.
Heh, that Alluring Aquatic collection still haunts me, LOL! There are some amazing picks here – I really want to try the new Chanel formula, and I’m looking forward to trying the Marc Jacobs and Hourglass minis I have!
My gloss year has been pretty low key – finishing off a couple of Revlon ones (Sugar Violet and Snow Pink), and enjoying trying out Laura Mercier Blush and Ana Hilwa. Nothing terribly exciting, but all solid, quality glosses for my purposes. I’m looking forward to seeing those new Revlon HD ones when they turn up here…
The packaging of Alluring Aquatics is still amazing to me. Seriously, so well done!
My personal favorite high end gloss from the year has been Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lipgloss in Naked Plum. It’s such an easy color with a bit of fun from the sparkle. After seeing this post, I definitely want to get my hands on one from Marc Jacobs, the opaqueness is to die for!

I tried an OCC lip tar and I like the formula; however, I don’t like having to apply/touch up with a brush…no bueno! I still need to try TooFaced’s Melted lip colors.
I totally understand! Lip Tars are great, but they’re not as easily reapplied!
Mine have all been the Revlon HD glosses because they are only glosses I bought this year!

Lipglosses are possibly my very favorite beauty product as I have extremely dry and sensitive lips. I’m very particular about glosses as they absolutely must feel comfortable on and hydrate. I can’t do anything with SPF and I can’t tolerate floral scents on my lips. See, lots of boxes to tick. My top 10 are Chantecaille Luminous Lip Gloss in Pink Melon and Framboise, Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Bare Pink, bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie in A-lister, Buxom Full-Bodied in Mwah and Yow, DiorAddict in Dormeuse, YSL Gloss Volupte in Corail Lingot and Rose Jersey, and UD Naked Lipgloss in Lovechild.
Mmm, I really love MAC Clear Water! I try not to wear it too frequently to preserve the product. 😛 Great shine and sparkle without looking or feeling like goo on me. (I’m weird, though, and actually enjoy sticky gloss, which I never hear anyone else say)
You picked Clear Water! Love it. My favorite lipgloss is still VG Rihanna 1. Favorite this year is Revlon HD Rose Quartz.
I gave lip glosses a miss this year but I would love to try Chanel and Marc jacobs this year! 🙂

what is it you love about OCC Aurora? does the color evoke a certain emotion? curious what it is about it caused you to love it so much that it made the list with the only B ranking.

I tried Chanel Crazy Fuchsia in the store, but it looked much more vivid than I imagined when I saw it IRL. I am in love with Gloss d’Armani #505 and it is almost gone; can you please compare it to Crazy Fuchsia? Thanks so much!
