At this point, I don’t know. I’d just say that really pricey skincare still scares me (overall), but hey, once you shell out $50 for a lipgloss… there’s no turning back.
.
Dior, Chanel and such. I’d rather buy MAC than spend so much on a product when you pay mostly for the name.
I agree! MAC has a decent price range with excellent products. I love looking at the more expensive make-up, and they do have some great products, just not great enough to validate the high price tag in my opinion.
I third that!
Dior, Chanel, YSL, Givenchy, and the like. Your reviews and photos have persuaded me to at least take a look at their products, but I still haven’t bought any. Pricey skin care scares me also. I think the prices at Lush is most I’ll spend, and their really pricey to me.
Totally agree with you!
I had never moisturized (gasp, I know) but just started too. Prices are scarry – I go midway. But I recently shelled out some coin for 20 mL of Clarins Eye Contour Calm (to soften fine lines for all skin types). I did it b/c I was having soreness around the outer corner of my eye. I haven’t had a sore eye since 🙂 So clearly, it wasn’t the makeup!
Exactly my thought.
Realistically, I don’t bother with Chanel, Guerlain, La Mer, CdP, R&R, and Dior, although Dior may sway me with a quint one of these days. I stick to mid-end cosmetics.
By Terry, at least in Australia.
And the Serge Lutens cosmetics line. Looks fabulous, but sooo expensive. Luckily, it’s not available in Australia.
brands like By Terry
I’m scared to shell the big bucks for La Mer moisturiser. Otherwise it’s not so much pricey cosmetics that I don’t want to shell out for it’s more of the case for brands that I can’t access here in Australia such Edward Bess or Dolce & Gabbana, etc.
Chantecaille. Come on, over 100€ for an eyeshadow trio???
Also the Chanel skincare is very overpriced I think.
i find dior n chanel too pricy ! i rarely buy anything from them,,,
but on the other hand, Bobbi brown is pricy but i do buy alot from there coz their products r really worth it !
their products r really special , i love their foundation and their concealer and the lipsticks r my favorite !
Right now I’m into MAC and Urban Decay. They aren’t too pricey for my college student budget and they are excellent quality. While in Sephora I’ve looked at brands like Nars and Dior, but I just couldn’t see what I would be getting from them that I couldn’t get from brands like MAC and Urban Decay. At the most I’ll pay $14 for a lipstick and $14-$20 for eyeshadow. People already tell me that I’m insane for doing that, but it could be worse. I could like Chanel. Speaking of them, they are the only higher-end brand that I’m considering. I don’t know why I don’t find clothing lines that come out with cosmetics lines to be appealing, but Chanel Dragon does look pretty interesting.
NARS blushes are REALLY worth checking out! Not too much more expensive than MAC!
I’ve always thought Chanel & YSL is very pricey. I dont bother because if I really really like their products then my wallet would be thinner than it already is.
La Mer, La Praire, Nars (not so much the cost, just too blah), Shu Uemura, Dolce & Gabbana, By Terry, Armani.
Yeah, I don’t think I’d ever be able to pay $50 for a lipgloss. The highest I paid was $32 for a Chanel laquer… but I can’t fathom paying over $50 for a single cosmetic item. NARS and Chanel are as high end as it gets for me right now and that’s when I feel like I deserve a treat.
Honestly, MAC is the priciest I’ll go. Anything more than that I tend to leave alone (Chanel, Dior, Guerlain etc.) Their products are beuatiful and of good quality, it’s just my wallet can’t take that kind of beating. Also, my makeup competes with my shoes. I’m not sure which one I have a bigger addiction towards… lol!
Sisley products are very expensive. I got some samples of skincare and I really liked them but at some point I have to say “that’s too much”.
I also think Serge Lutens makeup is really too expensive, I’ll just stick to his perfumes!
I’m not too sure. I remember getting a sample once for a skin cream from Guerlain that I liked but when I went to buy the product, it was $420CAD. That was too much for me, but I don’t have a problem paying $50CAD for YSL’s Rouge Volupte lipsticks. I guess it depends on the product.
La Mer for one, and I guess Chanel is another one, although I would love to try both of their products.
Like you, Christine, there’s no turning back for me…I have even spent $75+ on a single hair product! If I have the dough & I really want it…I’m gonna buy it. LOL!!
What brand & was it worth it?! Kerastase?
I like to take the best from each brand although I think that high-end brands shouldn’t allow them to have poor stuff (Givenchy and e/s for example).
I don’t like to throw my money away, so I really check all reviews before I purchase something that’s quite expensive. 🙂
And I do agree about pricey skincare. I don’t think that Dior, Chanel, YSL can ever have such good skincare like pharmacy brads – Rougj, Gatineau, Avene, Vichy… Don’t think those two thing could be compared.
I won’t pay high dollar for NARS, Dior and Channel. I do splurge on MUFE velvet matte and in the summer, Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer.
Cle de Peau – I’m sorry, but $70 for concealer??? that is just crazy.
La Mer…the ingredients are fairly standard for the money.
I”m dying to try but it’s too pricey, SKII
SKII is really worth it – I know its pricey but there really is no turning back from this one!
La Mer, and I wish I could purchase Chanel, but it’s just too pricey for me.
Dior, Chanel, Rock N Republic. I’m okay with their prices for clothing, and fragrances, but not for makeup, and skincare.
MAC’s the right price point for me; I’m reluctant to try anything more expensive. I do have a few NARS blushes and duos as well ae several MUFE eyeshadows which is a tad more expensive. But I just can’t see paying the ultra high end prices.
La mer!
I’ll splurge on any brand, but it depends on the product. I wouldn’t pay $50 for a gloss. From experience, I know I’d get sick of it, and that the quality would not be much greater than a Dior gloss. But I’ll splurge on moisturizer,.
guerlain, YSL, dolce & gabanna…i just don’t see the point because brands such as chanel (which is pricey but i’ll do it every now and then because their products are *amazing!*) and mac can really cover their markets at a much cheaper pricetag
none of the HE brands are ever worth that money…
All of the ones that cost more than MAC. Seriously. I have picked up a few things from Illamasqua, Dior and Chanel, but that’s as far as I’m going.
I don’t mind trying higher end. I’ve tried SKII, Dior, Rock & Republic, NARS and Chanel. I didn’t feel that my skin improved enough using SKII to make me convert to using it. With Dior & Chanel I think I have to be pickier about what I pick up and swatch, swatch, swatch. Rock & Republic was just <3. Their blushes are so yummy to use.
La Mer and La Praire. Seriously 100 bucks for foundation?!?! And 1,000 bucks for some anti age wrinkle cream that has some fancy ingredients?!? No thanks!
I can’t afford La Prairie liquid foundation and eye creams.
But I hope to get some products from this company in future, because the quality is outstanding and the results are stunning. 🙂
To continue the list:
(excluding other hi-end cosmetics derived from fashion lines)
1. La Prairie
2. Sisley (the most expensive products EVA)
3. L’Occitane (not worth the money)
4. Yves Saint Laurent (now that I’ve found my true love – MAC, I won’t spend a cent on YSL products.)
etc. etc.
I agree on this one! La Prairie and Sisley especially, although I’ve read reviews on Sisley phyto foundation is THE foundation. 😀 Haven’t tried it yet, have the sample of it but I’m scared I’m going to like it, lol. 😀
Dolce and Gabanna and I really love those designers. I think it would be worth the money to buy their eyewear or accessories rather than their $60 e/s palette. Chanel and Dior are up there for me too but if I really love the color or product I can justify the purchase. I recently was gifted with the Dior Night Butterfly palette and I bought the Chanel Rouge Laque based on your ratings alone.
NARS is also pricey but I use his products on a daily basis so I get my moneys worth!
Right now I stick with a price range around MAC, Urban Decay, and Stila. I do have one lipgloss each from YSL (Golden Gloss #2) and Chanel (Aqualumiere in Tangerine Dream), and honestly, as nice as they are, I don’t feel that they are worth double my usual MAC stuff. That said, a lot of the higher-end products (especially the lip products!) do seem pretty special to me and if they really, really jumped out I’d give them a try…e.g., I’d love to try Chanel’s new holiday quad, and I am entertaining trying a YSL Rouge Volupte during Sephora’s F&F sale (though none of the colors is really my thing…).
I buy the occasional mid-range of high end like NARS and Laura Mercier, but not a ton of brands in that price range really excite me.
But I have some limits. A, I would never make any of those luxury brands the bulk of my collection. And B, brands like La Mer, Cle de Peau, etc – really outrageously luxe stuff – is just way, way off my radar.
Shiseido, Nars and Chanel push it for me, but I always give fair consideration to an expensive product if it’s either totally unique (like some Nars eyeshadow colors) or an unquestionable staple (like that Dragon Rouge Laque by Chanel – can’t go wrong with red lips). I usually stick to mid-end, but go mostly for a product as opposed to a brand.
I probably would not spend money on Chanel or Dior and those huge designer brand. I’ve always wanted to try LM but their pretty pricy here in Australia.
i just dont bother with many products here in Aus because they are sooo overprice! i just get stuffs overseas, either online or when traveling..nothing is as expensive as Australia! >.< xoxo elle
ps: i got a stila illuminating moisturiser w spf for $10 (RRP $80), stila smudge pot for $5 (RRP $42), pop beauty palette for $20 (RRP 90) OVERSEAS!!! check out beautycrunch!
I’ve splurged a few times on Chanel lipglosses (but they really are great and sooo much more product than others) but i think those and my By Terry liquid rose blush are the priciest i own. In Singapore, Cle de Peau is reallly pricey – if i remember correctly, their lippie (looks like a MAC slimshine) is SGD$105! Will never go to that level (maybe will cave if i’ve got $$$ spilling out of my ears and nose but will still love MAC, Stila, Laneige, Etude House to death!) LOL!
I agree, Cle du Peau is one of the priciest, hands down. I bought a sheer lipstick at Neiman’s a couple of years ago and it cost $55 USD! I have no idea what I was thinking! And to make things worse, the lipstick was crap. It had no staying power whatsoever! Cle du Peau is a division of Shiseido and prices range from $70 USD for concealer, $45 for a single shadow, $45 for mascara, and get this, $118 for their Silky Cream foundation. Absolutely ridiculous!! MAC will always be my fave. Their product line is the best and well-priced.
case in point: i bought a couple of Etude House e/s (cutesy Korean brand); e/s are almost twice the size of MAC’s with a relatively decent colour range and with paint pot underneath, it lasts the WHOLE day and just as vibrant at 10pm at night when i’m taking it off, as it was at 8am when i was applying it. Cost: SGD$7.90 – 11.90 for Etude House vs SGD$26 for MAC. sigh … sometimes, cheap doesnt mean lousy and expensive doesn’t mean fantastic; but it does mean we’ll get tempted and swayed only to cave (it rhymed! LOL!)
Chanel
DIor
Guerlain
YSL
I’m with Christine. I have spent $50 on lipstick…I never thought I would. I was never really into high end brands till a co-worker introduced me it & shared some samples with me. So far the brands I have used – La Mer, Sisley, Chanel, Chantecaille, La Prairie, Cle De Peau, and my favorite Natura Bisse. I have spent $100 on foundation but it is the only one I have found that works for me. I have never spent $50 on eye shadow, mascara, eye liner, or concealer. Most of what I spend my money on goes towards skin care products. I have limits though. My co-worker just spent $400 on a moisturizer. That’s way too much for me but it makes her happy so good for her.
I don’t spend my money on clothes or shoes. To me it would be crazy to spend $200 on jeans.
Probably anything that cost more than MAC, Estee Lauder, Lancome, and Clinique. Although I will treat myself to some Dior or Chanel now and then.
MAC and Urban Decay is the most expensive I’ll go. I just cannot get into Dior, Chanel, or La Mer. Way to overpriced to me.
I do love Lancome though, but always purchase their stuff at the CCOs.
The Dior I get is what my mother passes to me because she decides she doesn’t like it or she may buy one for me out of love. But all I get is MAC and dip in to some other brands here and there, like Urban Decay and Stila. I like the duos from Nars but I can’t push myself to actually purchase one. However, I did get the mascara from Guerlain since I like trying different brands of mascara to find that perfect one. And it is a great mascara, too. But overall, MAC’s the highest.
Dior, Chanel. I’m sorry, I’m just not going to pay $60 for 4 or 5 tiny eyeshadows, I don’t care what the colors are. There are plenty of nice or similar colors for much less. Foundation and skin care stuff I’m willing to spend a lot of money for, just because I struggle with how my skin looks so much.
Uhm…too pricey for me or my hubby. I would say Guerlain, Channel, Dior,Givenchy.
Chantecaille, in France it’s about 90€/130$ for a foundation, I was given one and it isn’t “whouah”. At this price I was expecting something. I haven’t finish it yet to tell.
Clé de peau, Lutens the make up part, La mer.
I don’t think is worth the money you pay for.
I wouldn’t shell out too much for skincare that costs higher than clinique unless my skin really needed it to “recover” and I wouldn’t shell out $50 for foundation or anything, $40 is my maximum unless the bottle was super huge or something. I use those on an everyday basis so it would more likely run out quicker than any other cosmetics I have. Eyeshadows I’ll be willing to pay for if it’s a ONE OF A KIND color in a palette and I wouldn’t care too much how it costs if I really loved it. Other than that, I usually buy higher end cosmetics because of the quality of the product since better quality means less product used which would mean they’ll last me forever 🙂
For me $30 would be too much to pay for a gloss, so brands like Chanel, Dior, Guerlain are all a little pricey and I’ll opt for lower options if possible. On the other hand I covet my NARS bronzer and will continue paying the $30 for that because I’ve found it lasts me longer than drugstore bronzers since it’s more pigmented. So I end up paying the same amount in the kong run.
MAC is about as expensive as I’ll go. I splurged on the Dior Night Diamond compact from last holiday season because it was just too freaking luxe for words but in general MAC has hit my high price points. There are a few NARS products I’d like to try but I balk at $24 for a lip gloss. Guerlain, Chanel, D&G…fuhgeddaboutit!
Most over priced skincare lines are carbon copies of drug store brands with slick packaging that really gets consumers going. Unfortunately, if you don’t know how to read an ingredients list you’re lost. I’ve been studying them for about five years now and have finally deciphered what’s really worth the money and what’s just clever packaging and gimmicky marketing. Pricey cosmetics are something that really is a choice, not a need. Do you want it or do you need it? I find that if you really want something and can afford it, okay then, treat yourself, but when it comes to your skin, you really should take the time to read the ingredients listed on the package, research the brands and see what your skin really needs in order to look and feel healthy. Perfumed skincare and essential oils are so awful for skin, yet sometimes that’s the key ingredient that really gets a consumer hooked on a product line. Sure, the package is pretty, but the minute you rinse that $50 cleanser off your face, all the “amazing” ingredients are gone sister….take the time to educate yourself and you’ll be happier in the long run! So will your wallet!
I’m so lost when it comes to ingredients. Do you have any reco’s for drugstore brands?? Or online sites where us regular folks can check out the scoop? 🙂
Hi Cherie,
I subscribe to a blog entitled BeautyPedia.com, it’s written by Paula Begoun. She has been in the industry for over 20 years, has written 8 books entitled “Don’t go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me”, and sells her own (extremely affordable)skincare and cosmetics at Paulaschoice.com. She really weeds through ingredients, all the different product lines, including high and low end, drug store and department store, as well as cosmetic/skincare lines by dermatologists. I swear by her reviews, and I use some of her skincare products as well. She has samples you can buy, and all her stuff carries a money-back policy. Check out the sight! I’ve been subscribing to the on-line beautypedia ($24.99 per year) for about three years now, and I always check out her reviews, which are done frequently, before I spend good money on anything cosmetic or skin care related. Also, she has beauty bulletins you can subscribe to for free. Just go on the sight and register for them, I believe they come out on Thursdays…Hope this helps!
Totally helps! Thanks so much 🙂
I totally agree with you! 🙂
I’d definitely be interested to hear some product suggestions as well. 🙂
Hi Brigitte,
Check out my response to Cherie. I think that this will help answer some of your questions about “high end” versus “lower end” in terms of department store vs. drug store and product suggestions…
Good luck!
I always find something that I would like an would rationale about buying it but I am also pickier about selecting too, ie colours that I don’t currently own in my collection and, size of product and how long it would last me. I recently picked up something from Guerlaine and I debated for weeks before I did buy it. By that time it was already sold out almost everywhere else. Plus I don’t do it very often. When I do buy something that is more high end, I skip out and sacrifice some items I want from MAC. Sometimes certain higher end brands like Dior and Lancome would have gift with purchase promo and that would persuade me to try something, this way you can sample some of their other products on the side too.
As of right now pricey brands I don’t have lemmings for because of both price and product selection are D&G and Armani.
I’ve never even been able to afford to buy MAC. Maybe if it were steeply on sale. It’s never been in the budget and it’s especially not now that I have a second child.
I’m kind of cheap though. I have trouble spending more than $10 or so for a single item of makeup. It just breaks my brain.
I’d go all the way up to Chanel/Armani/Bobbi Brown but only the stuff from them that’s really worth buying. *hugs* my Aqualumieres. Am gathering change for the allure laques too >.>
I do not care the cost of any product really. If I like it, I buy it! Simple as that!
I would say Guerlain, Dior, Chanel, Clea de peau (probably spelling that wrong) and Chante… I would even say Lancome an Estee Lauder, they aren’t to pricey but they don’t seem worth it to me. 90% of the time drugstore wins my heart 🙂 and the other 10% goes to MAC- I love how MAC has sleek packaging and decently priced products.
You just need to be smart with the money you spend on these high-end brands. I am one of the more frugal people on earth, but I’m willing shell out money on good serums and moisturizers. Less money can be spent on cleansers as the ingredients will just wash away (although I have to say, I need to buy a good shampoo. Cheap shampoos are too drying). I love the Estee Lauder night repair (not that it’s a very expensive brand, ~$100). I did recently buy a La Mer moisturizer, but I’m so “cheap” that I’m scared to use it. I just got into makeup, so I can’t really comment on it. The most that I’ve spent is on MAC and Urban Decay stuff. (I have never spent $30 on a foundation, nor a $40 eyeshadow palette… until now. I bought MAC because of its line of yellow tones, which is perfect for my skin! The palette was a big step for me, going from 5 singles to a pallette of 9.) However, I will never spend lots of money on mascaras (whose life is a max of 3 months) and lip stuff.
Nars, Chanel, Dior,(though I did buy two LE eyeshadow quads because they were too cute) and the like. It’s just too much. Even if I could afford it, I wouldn’t buy that stuff unless I was obsessed with a product. Make up wise, I’ll stay with MAC and Urban Decay forever. I pay a lot for Brand fragrances and I’m ok with that.
I have only splurged a feeew times on Chanel products that I feel are worth it (i.e. I’ll actually use them) but that’s about as far as I’ll go. I know I will never go near La Mer products… that’s just blatantly overpriced and I’m not down with that.
Brands that weren’t originally make-up brands…like Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, etc. I could get better quality stuff for half their price from NARS, MAC, UD, MUFE, shu uemura…lol!
I think La Prarie is extremely over priced. Too high for a foundation or a cream. Sometimes YSL can be too much.
I’m not into clothes. I’m into limited accessories. Therefore, I spend money on cosmetics. I wish I could justify high end skincare, but I gave that up when I hit a rough spot. Although I would like to go back, I would honestly rather spend the money on a few lipsticks than on a jar of face lotion that will last a few weeks! I will probably regret it as I get older and my skin looks bad though:(
Chanel, Guerlain, La Mer, YSL.
I’m a Mac and MUFE kinda gal 🙂
La Mer, Guerlain, Chanel, Dior, Givenchy. I have to buy brands like MAC online from sellers overseas though, because they sell them in Australia at Chanel-esque prices 😐
Dior, Guerlain, La Mer. I have some Chanel products but I bought them with gift cards so I didn’t feel too bad about spending that much.
Brands like Chanel, Dior, YSL, Guerlain etc I don’t buy, but with them I can kinda understand why they’re so expensive cuz they’re old long-running prestige names deeply rooted in the luxury industry, so high prices are very much expected with them. But one REALLY expensive brand I can’t understand is Hourglass–$28 for a normal amount of lip gloss?? $60 for foundation? Are you kidding me?? Some of their packaging is nice and the quality of their makeup is pretty good, but it isn’t even CLOSE to being worth the ridiculously high premium. I’d pay $32 for a uniquely excellent item like Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laque, but not $28 for a standard lip gloss.
Cle de Peau is too pricy for me; I know they’re well known for foundations and concealers, but I use both rarely so they don’t seem worth it to me. I recently got a Chantecaille palette on sale, and while it was nice, I don’t think that I’d ever pay the 130$ USD price tag for it. I am a HUGE Dior fan; and for 5 colours I don’t find 58$ CAD that bad; if I wanted 5 separate MAC colours I’d be spending about 92$ and since I doubt I’ll ever finish all of one colour other than my standby neutrals, I’m happy to pay for the convenience of a palette.
That being said, MAC is not my thing. I prefer the luxury brands that release only a few collections a year, and I don’t mind spending money on things I’ll use.
La Mer, La Praire, Sislye, SKII, By Terry, Cle de Peau, Becca & Makeup Forever….the list goes on…
Guerlain. I just haven’t been that impressed with their products.
Make Up Forever. I haven’t tried them but am tempted to because of the Best of MUFE set from Sephora.
I am an admitted NARS addict. I love their palettes and I think you get your money’s worth on the palettes. I would not recommend buying singles of anything unless there is a color you know you’re going to love. I have bought their blushes, e/s, and lip glosses but it’s their palettes I enjoy the most. I LOVE the NARS bridal palette- it’s my travel makeup kit and I may have to buy back up. If you can get your hands on their Pleasures of Paris e/s palette, I think many people would really enjoy it. I love mine but it was so hard to get. most stores do not carry it and I had to check online everyday at NARS cosmetics before I got mine. Believe me I rushed to click the shopping cart button and check out. ^_^
I get Dior mascaras but that’s about it. They last a really long time and I like Diorshow enough to splurge every couple of months.
The only thing I have ever gotten from Chanel is their nail polishes only because I love the wear and colors of them so much. I have not found dupes that equal the quality of Chanel polishes. I once bought a lipgloss but I immediately had buyer’s remorse and returned it before I left the store. (a sad state of affairs, I know.) However, I would definitely buy them if I could. It made my lips glow with shimmer in the sunlight.
I have my one YSL Rouge Volupte which I treasure but I don’t think I could make them a habit.
Fortunately I am not that into super expensive skin products so I have not been lured in by La Mer and such…
Here’s hoping I stay away from the makeup counters for a while….
La Prairie ^& La Mer!
I once read that the blue tin of Nivea has the same ingredients as La Mer moisterizer and that the only difference is the Algae, which you can add by taking them as pills (hope I explain it okay, as English is not my native tongue).
LaMer, Guerlain, Chantecaille, most of teh pricy french skincare brands. Chanel & Dior are my limit!
NARS and BENEFIT. I wish I was rich just to buy all of there great quality products. I love those brands but they are so pricey. I’m saving up to buy the famous Orgasm/ Laguna bronzer from NARS and the boxed powder blush in CORALisa by BENEFIT. Amazing products!!
On my college student budget, all I can afford is MAC, Clinique, Urban Decay, and anything I can find on places like beautycrunch. And that is still pushing it when you add everything together… I’m trying to cut back a lot (its SOOO HARD)…
I want to venture into Dior and Chanel and other more HE brands, but I’ll save those purchases for when I make bank after I graduate soon.
Giorgio Armani, Guerlain, la prairie, la mer, dolce & gabanna, Givenchy.
La Prarie. Guerlain.
Cle de Peau, Creme La Mer (I tried their moisturizer and hated it), by Terry, YSL, some Givenchy – all overpriced and SO not worth the $$!
cdp, dior, guerlain, lancome, chanel, chantecaille, and ALL manners of skincare that i can’t even think of right now because there are so many.
Pricey, everthing over 100$, so Armani foundation is little too pricey for me.
But I have no problem with Guerlain, Dior.
Chanel, YSL and Nars are less accessible for me so it is the only thing stopping me from buying more product from those companies.
I have a range of all types of products. Mostly, they are “higher end,” but I also do some home-made things too. I notice the more expensive ones [not more then $70!!!] do work better on my skin, but you mostly get what you pay for. They tend to smell better as well, and nothing is wrong with getting samples with your purchase! ;]
thats an easy one for me… Temptu
i’d love to have flawless looking skin, but i’m sure i can accomplish that pretty well without a 200+ dollar airbrush system
I covet but cannot splurge on:
La Mer
Chantecaille
Cle de Peau
Sisley
and the like.
I do have a few products from some of these brands but not the whole range of products that I would like. If I really crave/want something, the price doesn’t matter usually. It’s on my list and the next opportunity arises, I will get it. It might be a “once in a lifetime” thing but still; my curiosity will be tamed! lol
WHile I do agree that not all highend products are great (case in point: Chanel’s Noir Obscur e/s quad), not all cheap/er products are fine as well. As a general rule, one gets what one pays for.
Thew lowest end products I am willing to buy are:
NARS
MAC (which accounts for 90% of my stash of stuff)
MUFE
UD
Stila
L’Occitane
LUSH
But, unless I win at the lottery, I would not be able to use Guerlain Imperiale skin care line (@ $500+/jar) on a regular basis!
Sisley, SK II or La Mer. I am really tempted by the La Mer concealer because I have never found a really great concealer. But at 36, I am afraid if I break that invisible line I have drawn and approach the counter, it’s all over. The mystique is gone, I realize I am aging and should think about investing in some more serious skincare for my face. EEK!
I second Diana on By Terry. There are some lovely lipglosses in that range but WAY too expensive in Australia. I think Lancome is getting pretty pricey too. I bypass YSL, Guerlain, SKII, La Mer, La Prairie and Chanel.
Chanel, Guerlain.
They are way tooooooo pricy and given the feedback, NOT WORTH IT at all! To be frank, money spent on their masks can get you a good facial plus a spa every other week, why bother it? Plus while their hydro lines are so-so, their whitening lines…just don’t wast money on those, go for Japanese brands.
One more thing, I’m not sure about Chanel, but about Guerlain, you can get them from warehouse sale at end of the season with 80% OFF PRICE. So yes, save ur money, even limited edition go to warehouse sale and they are open to public.
However I do consider high-end brands targeting at older lady like La Mer, Chantecaille are priced reasonable, since the products do work effectively and I’m like 30 years from starting using them…..
Chantecaille, La Mer and La Prarie are just way out of my price range. I prefer MAC because I want something colorful and innovative- not just another black eyeliner or peach blush. I feel some brands don’t even try anymore- they just coast on their brand exclusivity.
Chanel, MakeupForever, Dior, Clarins and Shiseido. I think it’s fine if you only buy it once or once in a while but occasionally is bad.
