Temptalia Asks You - How much time do you give a skin care product before deciding its working?

How much time do you give a skin care product before deciding its working? A few weeks? Months?

.

Usually if I break out from a product, I give it up instantly. Otherwise, I’ll keep using it for 3-6 weeks, depending on how I’m feeling about it (or if I want to try something new).

I’ll give it 2 – 3 weeks to see if it’s working. However, if it gives me bumps/pimples/itch, I’ll give it another try and discard it if the reactions happen again.

I decide pretty fast if a skin care product is working for me or not. Usually a few days up to one week are enough. The most important characteristics for me are noticeable upon first application/use, like the scent (I hate strongly perfumed stuff), the texture, the amount of moisture it delivers, the time it needs for absorbing into my skin and so on.

I give it a month. Because every skin product I’ve used works for the first week or so, but I have to wait another 2 weeks to see if the results last.

usually instantly for moisturizer since consistency, feel and hydration is the most important to me. I just found my HG moisturizer and it drug store — It’s Yes To Tomatoes Hydrating Moisturizer. OMG! I LOVE! Cleanser usually instantly as well….if my face feels too tight after I wash it I know the formulation is not for me. It’s it’s too drying I will instantly get a breakout the usually goes away quick, but that’s a tell-tale sign for me. My HG cleanser is Purity Made Simple in the original formulation. I’ve been pretty lucky with my skin, but I’m still really picky about the products I use. I like Clinique’s Moisturing Surge as well, but what I just found is slightly better and WAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper.

If it breaks me out or causes excessive dryness I’ll stop immediately. Otherwise I’ll give it a couple weeks to see a difference.

My skin is pretty clear about telling me what it doesn’t like – with redness, flakey dry skin! If there isn’t a reaction right away, I give it two or so weeks for acne products, and a month for things like eye creme.

It depends on how it reacts with my skin if i get a bad reaction the first time i use it then i stop instantly if not then i stick to it for like 3 months.

i usually give it the life of the product’s container… like if it takes me 2 months to go through the whole bottle, and it hasn’t done anything it claims to do, i’ll ditch it…

KyaLyn Avatar

I usually complete a container of the product before I decide. The only time I didn’t do this, was because I could tell instantly that I was going to have a reaction.

I usually keep with a product for 2 months or till I finish the bottle it says usually to stick with a product for awhile to see results. But if I break out in the first week I will stop using it right away. I try to only use one new product at a time so I can figure out quickly what changed in my regime that made my skin unhappy.

thnks for including my question…
i try a product for like 2 weeks…if it works fine, i finish the whole jar..if i find its not working..or reacting, i just try to use it in alternative ways…like face creams as foot creams….:)

Depends on what it is. If it’s irritating, I’ll immediately return it. If it doesn’t bother me in any way, I’ll try it for the time the packaging states. For example, if the packaging for an anti-aging skin cream says that it takes two weeks for it to show complete results, I’ll use it for that time (and a little bit over depending on how good the product feels on me). If it doesn’t work, I’ll either give it away to my mom or just keep it and use it sparingly.

I have a question though: Shouldn’t you technically use a skin care product at least 6 weeks to see if it’s working? I think I’ve heard that in regards to acne care products, but I’m not sure. It’s been a while since I’ve read the information.

For facial products, my super sensitive skin means that I notice within 1 day if something will work or not. If it can’t pass the one day test, the product is either tossed, returned, or passed along to someone with stronger skin. If it’s a body product, I’ll usually give it a few days. I’m into instant gratification. 🙂

I am allergic to a lot of skincare so i’ll have an allergic reaction within the day – if this happens it’s completely useless to me so I’ll throw it away (can’t return products in the UK)
If -happy days- I’m not allergic I’ll use it up 🙂 No point wasting it!

I can usually tell right away if a product is bad for me, for I breakout within the 1st week of use. If it doesn’t break me out I stick with it. But my skin grows tolerance pretty fast to products, even those that have worked well, and it seems like after a month or two it will just stop working. I hate my skin!

niknik Avatar

Around 2 weeks to a month.
Some products I’ve used worked amazing for a week with no evident breakouts or dry patches, but I still give it the benefit of the doubt and wait 2 weeks or more to fully decide if I’ll welcome it to my beauty routine.
