Temptalia Asks You - How do you remove your makeup?

How do you remove your makeup? What do you use?

.

I use Lancome Bi-Facil for eye/lip makeup, and then I use my regular cleanser to remove face makeup. I follow-up with a toner after that!

Sadly my mother opposes buying expensive eye make up removers so she’s made me find an alternative. A friend of mine told me that some olive oil on a make up pad should do the trick. I’ve tried it and it’s better than any make up remover I’ve ever owned. Plus after a month of using it, my eyelashes are shinier and longer. 😀 It doesn’t matter what kind you use either. I’ve used dark, light, cheap, Syrian, Lebanese olive oils…all the same effect. 😀

For lipstick and face make up, I just wash it out with my daily facial scrub, then once more with Dove soap. After that I pat my face dry and use a Garnier pure liquid toner that cleanses my skin. Gets all the grease out. 🙂

Thanks for sharing and letting us ms. Temptalia!!! I’m new to this site and I’m so addicted haha!

I use olive oil as well, but I vastly prefer the extra virgin. If you are used to expensive/perfumed/any other kind of make up remover, I think you’ll agree with me. It smells and tastes better – it’s just nicer. Besides from that, I’d REALLY advocate using an ecological oil. Non-ecological oils can contain pesticide residues, and even if any detrimental effects aren’t proved, I really wouldn’t suggest putting possibly-cancer causing chemicals on your face.
In winter I have a mix of verrry dry skin with flaky patches (my nose in particular – red and flaky. Ew.), and slightly greasy forehead and chin, so when I started using olive oil almost 2 months ago, I figured I’d break out like mad. Instead my skin-tone has evened out – the dry redness has gone -, I have no more flaking, and my lashes are longer and shinier. The length I guess is from the diminished tugging and rubbing to get off make up. I Clean my whole face with it, then wash off with warm water, and tone with rice water. The last I started doing with quite a bit of scepticism as well, but it makes the slightly enlarged pores on my cheeks completely disappear, as well as removing extra dirt that none of the other cleansers I’ve used have got. Almost like commercial magic 😉

(sorry if my language is a bit crude and long-winded – non-english speaker, I am)

Alice Avatar

Kat, how do you get rice water? Do you buy it somewhere or do you actually get it from cooked rice? Does it matter what kind of rice? Haha I want to try it myself, if you can’t tell!

Lolly Avatar

I use Shiseido Tiss Deep Off Oil, it gets everything off really easily, but my vision goes blurry for a minute when it gets in my eyes! My face is so breakoutty these last few months, I think it could be one of the culprits, but I’m not too sure haha

Patricia Avatar

I remove eye makeup with “bareEyes” (by Bare Escentuals), which is the best I’ve ever tried!

For the rest, I use Clean & Clear makeup disolving foaming cleanser. It will also remove eye makeup, but my waterproof mascara comes off faster with the bareEyes.

The Clean & Clear is actually my regular cleanser when I’m not wearing makeup as well… that’s how much I love it. 🙂

Basis Sensitive Skin bar soap on my whole face, Alba Un-Petroleum Jelly around my eyes, and Dickinson’s Witch Hazel toner at the end for anything I missed on my hairline, jawline, and neck. I feel like this is a super low-end plan… but it works for me!

Madeleine Avatar

I use MAC’s oil cleanser. Easy and effective!!
Sometimes, if i just have eyeliner and mascara on, i’ll just use Garnier oil base make-up remover. Garnier makes one really good make-up remover!

Chelle Chioa Avatar

I swipe on a bit of cleansing oil on my lashes to melt the Majolica Majorca mascara, I take a shower so the steam would help melt the mascara easily. When I step out of the shower I pat my face dry and use my cleansing oil to wipe away everything.

jael Avatar

I use the neutrogena wipe from Target. I start with my eyes to remove all the eye make up and then flip it to a clean spot for the rest of my face and follow up with my facial cleanser.

Cat Avatar

Most days I just use wipes but if I went out on the town and my makeup is a lil on the heavy side I use mac cleanse oil. It gets everything off without all the harsh scrubbing.

Tavia Avatar

I use Vichy or Bioderma for sensitive skin aqua thermal makeup remover and the Clinique toner after that. When I wear foundation I clean my face with Clinique facial soap before proceeding to my normal beauty routine.

dudisea Avatar

MAC Cleanse off oil has been a great life saver it’s so easy to use. I use bifacil for the left over residue on my eyes. Then Use Lush Tea Tree Water tonic to clean everything else off which is almost always nothing.

Heather Avatar

I use Purity by Philosophy once on my eyes and lips to remove any hard to get make up. Then I clean my whole face with Purity and a face brush to remove my foundation and face makeup. To finish everything off I wash my face a second time with Purity and the face brush to cleanse my actual skin (learned that from Petrilude’s skin care tips video…to wash face twice…once to remove makeup, second time to clean your skin)

Nikki Avatar

I use olive oil to take off my eye makeup, a MAC wipe or Neutrogena makeup remover wipe for the rest of my face. Once I’ve gotten 90% off my makeup off, I wash my face as usual.

Avery Avatar

I use Philosphy’s Purity- it melts makeup off and makes your face feel so so clean. Then I use the Garnier Cleaning wipes to make sure all the makeup is off. If I’m not being lazy, I’ll use a toner, but I’m not sure that it really does anything LOL

Samantha Avatar

I use Boots soothing botanical eye makeup remover for my eye makeup, then Equate cleansing cloths to remove my face makeup, then I cleanse with my usual cleanser… then toner, serum, moisturizer, etc, etc.

kpenn Avatar

I use the MAC wipes to take off my eye make-up. They’re the best I’ve found, particularly since my MUA suggested flipping the package over each day so that the top ones don’t get dried out.

I take off the rest of it just with a cloth and my normal Roche-Posay cleanser. Anything else irritates my skin.

If I’ve worn a particularly dark or drying lip that day, I might follow up with Smashbox’s lip exfoliant so that I’m ready to go in the worning.

Erica Avatar

neutrogena eye makeup remover and then cetaphil face cleanser. I do this before i shower each night and then after my shower, I use clairins cleanser.

Sara(m) Avatar

I was a big Bi-Facil fan… until I met Shu Uemura cleansing oil. It can take anything off, and it’s also my nighttime cleanser! They make a lot of different varieties for different skin types, and you definitely want to follow instructions (apply on dry skin, massage for a while, moisten and massage some more, rinse off) for good results. This stuff has replaced my arsenal of removers (wipes, cold cream, Bi-Facil).

Alice Avatar

I’m a fan of the Shu Uemura cleansing oil as well.. I use the green one which smells good and fresh! It was expensive, but my jumbo bottle has lasted a year and I’ve only used half! Plus, it doesn’t dry out my skin, and since it becomes a cleanser with just a bit of water, it’s easy and convenient. On days where I’m wearing a lot of face makeup, I double up with Philosophy’s Purity cleanser. Love the shu!

Meghan Avatar

I’ve been using Aveeno Foaming Face Cleanser. It’s actually pretty good at getting most of my makeup off, but it’s not great. I’m looking for a better cleanser after this.

Cathy Avatar

i was using makeup remover wipes but they were breaking me out so now i use victorias secret makeup remover..i think its oiled base…works really well then i wash my face in the shouwer with a face wash and then a toner to follow.

Jennifer Avatar

With time? j/k

No, Um I use Neutrogena eye make up remover…Then I use a variety of samples lol … Currently I’m using my deluxe sample of Philosophy’s Purity , and it is pretty good. I just bought Philosophy’s Peel Wash and tried it yesterday as well as their lip exfoliator.

I try to keep it simple otherwise I will stop doing it after awhile.

Rosie Avatar

I use a face wipe for removing my face makeup and the target brand eye remover that’s like the neutrogena one. Then I wash my face with my cleanser.

Sue Avatar

I’m currently using Neutrogena eye makeup remover, too, on my eyes and then over the rest of my face. Then I cleanse with my regular cleanser (Decleor cleansing milk), and finish up with toner. Once I’m finished the Neutrogena I may go back to LUSH’s Ultrabland cleanser. It’s thick, so it’s easier to manipulate, and takes off absolutely everything.

fiaspice Avatar

I used Yves Rocher Soft Eye Makeup remover with Chamomile in the past, but doesn’t remove mascara well. I recently bough Nivea Visage Eye Makeup Remover and it’s terrible. Yes it remove all make up, ingluding black kohl, but it stings my eyes! I think I’m gonna change brand as soon as it’s finished.

Makeupholism Avatar

I use Neutrogena’s Eye Makeup Remover on eyes and lips, and then Clinique’s Redness Solutions Cleanser on the rest of the face. I have very sensitive skin, everything else breaks me out IMMEDIATELY… I’m in love with Redness Solutions… 🙂 I remove it with a tissue, and then just wash it away with water… pat dry, and that’s it.

Cassykins Avatar

I’m a Lush addict, so it’s Ultra Bland to get off tough eye make up (only eye makeup, though, this stuff kills the rest of my face) and then Fresh Farmacy to get everything else off. I usually follow with Breath of Fresh Air toner to make sure I got it all.

Stephanie Avatar

First I use Neutrogena makeup remover pads and Almay eye makeup remover pads. Next I use the Clinique 3 step system: the cleanser, the toner, and the moisturizer. Finally I use some Acne Free spot treatment stuff if I have an annoying zit.

Philippine Avatar

I use Sesame oil for the bulk of the makeup, then i spray La Roche Posay Eau Thermale, then wipe. Then i use Nude Skincare’s Facial cleansing oil, the Eau Thermal again to emulsify, then water to rinse, then follow up with Nude’s Clarifying water as a toner.

BeckBeck Avatar

My routine is EXACTLY like yours – Bi-Facil on eyes (I don’t usually wear lip products that require a remover) and then just wash like normal.

Ebru Avatar

For the days that I do a lot of makeup, I use MAC cleansing oil to remove my makeup first, then, clean my eye makeup with Lancome bifacil ey emakeup remover(there is always some left even after washing with cleansing oil)and then wash my face again with Purpose facial wash (whic I LOVE and can’t leave without). For lighter makeup days, I just wash my face with Purpose which takes everything out without drying your skin.

Cat Avatar

I’ve just started to use Olive Oil to get eye makeup off (or I use Neutrogena makeup removing wipes), then I wash my face with whatever cleanser I have/need to use up. After I move on the my normal skin care routine.

P.S. Does anyone know if the Olay make up removing wipes are any good? Or better than Neutrogena?

glitter princess Avatar

i used to use a wet wipe to remove makeup and an eye makeup pad for eye makeup but due to an allergy i know use boots no7 cleanser and toner or use lush ultra bland cleanser

Alyssia Avatar

I use Garnier grape cleansing lotion for my eyes and face, I use one cotton pad for eyes, one cotton pad for face. Then I use Neals Yard Remedies lavender water toner to tone and remove any missed out makeup, then I moisturise with Nivea moisturising fluid. I have combo/oily skin for reference.

I read about taking eye makeup off with oil-based removers and then found an article highlighting its dangers as apparently the oil can get trapped and create pockets which require surgery…apparently during surgery when they open the pocket it literally bursts with the oil, so that’s put me off ever trying that!

Jennifer Avatar

I use MAC Cleanse Off Oil to remove everything on my face, then use Philosophy Purity or Avalon Organics Vitamin C Refreshing Facial Cleanser to wash my face. If I’m lazy or really tired I use MAC wipes to get my makeup off and wash my face with one of the two cleansers.

I’m still in search of a good toner though, one that won’t cause inflammation to my sensitive skin or make my dry patches worst and oily areas worst too.

Kristina Avatar

I use a Micellar. I am very surprised more women don’t use them. Biotherm, lancome, Avene all make great ones. It removes ALL m/u, cleanses and tones with a few swipes of a large cotton pad. There isn’t any need to rinse and my skin is ready for moisturizer or serum next.

This has made my skin look fantastic because I don’t have to wash my face more than once a day. ( I just wash in the morning) My skin isn’t overly dry or oily now.

Jeanie Avatar

I used either BB or Lancome’s eye remover for the eyes first, follow with Fancl (not available here sadly) or Shu Uemura’s cleansing oil. I might wash my face again with normal cleanser depending on my mood. Actually, the cleansing oil alone would be enough to remove all eye/face makeups. I’m using both only because I still have some eye makeup remover left prior to the discovery of cleansing oil.

Aimee Avatar

I use MAC cleansing oil all over my face, including my eyes, and then to remove the remainder of my eye make up, I use the Lancome Bi-Facil (first on a cotton pad then with a Q-tip to remove the most difficult, small corners carefully without tugging). I am a believer in double cleansing, so I use my regular cleanser after this.

Nicci Avatar

I have used Extra Virgin Olive Oil but started using Loreal Eye Make Up Remover…I like it but it is nothing great, going to look for something better!

Brenda Avatar

Right now I use a cucumber/comfrey soap to remove makeup/dirt and follow with Thayer’s Witch Hazel (either regular for breakout times or alcohol free rose witch hazel for sensitive days). I don’t moisturize if i do this before bed. Sometimes a dab of Tea tree oil on blemishes. I will try out the Olive oil for makeup removal.

Yvonne Avatar

For my eye makeup I use Lush Ultrabland cleanser. Its a gentle cream that comes in a pot. Its a peanut oil base with rose water and beeswax as well. This stuff is extremely gentle…I can get this stuff all in my eye it won’t burn or sting in the slightest. Its also great at removing most of my makeup. Sometimes I have to give some areas some extra attention but other than that it removes eye makeup completely.

To keep the pot sanitary I dip a clean q-tip in it each time and then apply the produt to my eye and muss it all around the eye area. Then I spritz some of their Breath of Fresh Air toner on a cotton ball to remove it.

Since its an oil base you have to remove it with some type of toner or with hot water on a washcloth, just using water or a dry cotton ball won’t get all the grease off.

I love Ultrabland not only because its gentle but because its very natural. I believe the only unatural ingredients are one or two food-grade parabens, but other than that no mineral oils, gylcols, sulfates, etc.

Yvonne Avatar

I forgot to mention that for my face makeup, I just wash my face with my regular cleanser (BWC 3% AHA cleanser) and then use a toner to get all the rest off.

Catherine Avatar

Currently, I’m using the combination of Yes to Carrots makeup remover followed by Mamdom’s makeup remover to take my mascara off (Kiss Me Heroine Long and Curl) which is a bit frustrating. I have heard that the L’oreal green makeup remover can take that mascara off no problem though, so that’s next on my list once I run out of the Mamdom. For the rest of my face, I have been wiping the Mamdom m/u remover all over my face on a cotton pad, but in general my Soapalaya Soaps Chamomile Calm bar soap does a fantabulous job of taking everything (except that mascara) off my face. Usually nothing comes up on my toner pad at all and I trust it so much now (I mean, 0 residue for over a year is pretty good in my book) I don’t even use a cotton pad with my toner anymore. I just pour some in my hands and pat it on my face – wastes less.

Rengirl Avatar

As of now I’m “trying” Loreal’s oil-free makeup remover but I’m not super happy with it. I use vaseline to get out any stubborn, water-proof makeup but I think I’ll try olive oil as suggested above. Finally, I do an overall cleanse with Purity Made Simple and buff that in with a soft, cleansing brush sprayed with watered down tea tree oil.

Jodi Avatar

I like using Mary Kay’s eye makeup remover to take off my eyeshadow and lipstick, L’Oreal’s Revitalift cleanser for my face most days. I’ll also use a makeup wipe (L’Oreal’s Revitalift Cleansing Wipes) or a cheaper Equate facial wipe when I’m lazy. Well, I also might be found using Noxema or Pond’s Cold Cream (green lid), sometimes Jergen’s Cold Cream also when I want! I like to mix it up!! 🙂

Jodi Avatar

Oh yeah…and sometimes when I can afford it DHC’s Olive Cleansing Oil! GREAT STUFF!!! It seems like everything from Japan in skin care is wonderful!

Sally Avatar

At the gym, I use Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleansing Wipes and to get the waterproof mascara off(it holds curl way better than non-waterproof), I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover.

Paloma Avatar

I use the Neutrogena cleanser wipes, they look a little like baby wipes but yeah…I campaign products through bzzagent.com and they gave me a ton of the wipes as well as a gigantor bottle of Neutrogena eye makeup remover, and all for free! The products are great.
