I always get warm toned lipsticks because I have a reddish complexion and cool lipsticks make me look strange. And I usually go for the Coral side of things.
There are a few exceptions to my Coral obsession. I bought Party Line from the first cremesheen release and I’ve fallen in love. Totally my HG lippie.
I usually decide depending if I wear eye shadow or not. I usually stay on the neutral side with a nude or brown gloss or lipstick with no shadow. If I’m going out, I usually go bold with a sexy bright or dark red or dark brown if my eyes are subtle. If I have a lot of color with the eyes again I keep it neutral.
These are the only colors I seem to stick with. I really do need to expand my lip colors 🙁

I only use neutrals and light tones because I’m used to see my “big” lips in the mirror. The first time I tried a red lipstick it seemed my lips were half their size… hated! but everybody tells me it will take time to get used to red or any other strong color… anyway: hated!
I have brown hair and brown eyes, I thought a brown lipstick would be a good choice to stand out (and to replace red) but someone told me it wasn’t “fashion” anymore… please tell me that’s not true! It’s my only chance to get away from neutrals and start to get used to strong lip colors…
Well I’ve always LOVED browns so I say thats not true..LOL..But i definitely think you should try a red. I find reds to be sexy and bold. Maybe try a darker red, like a wine or burgundy color because it’s red with some brown in it. Then once you get used to that, you can go brighter. ???? Just a thought.
But I feel you on being scared to try new colors. I feel that way about like coral or pink colors.
Fashion is what you make of it. It’s not what others deem it to be. Individuality, not conformity, is the key. Rock the browns! I do.
For tropical looks, I wear coral type colors (like B-Babe and Red Devil). For soft wintery looks, I usually go with pale pink with lots of shimmer (like B-Babe and Snowscene). Pink, purple or dark eye makeup, I usually go with a darker pink lip (like Pomposity and Ms Fizz). And Dark blue or maybe brown eyeshadows, I would use a bronzy type lip (like Miss Dynamite).
Usually it’s instinctive, but if I really don’t know, I either wear a sheer raspberry pink gloss or just some balm 🙂
Red lips used to be my signature color, and I STILL love a red lip. However, I also love wearing burgundy, wines, plums, pinks, and iridescences. Recently I’ve also tried golds, coppers, and peaches. I tend to either have strong eyes or strong lips, but not both, so that’s why I started getting iridescent colors or light pinks so that I could do very bold eyes.
I very rarely will wear anything on my lips. Mainly because I can’t find a nice colour that brings out the pretty colour I have for lips. 🙁 Everything either masks it, or looks really bad on me.
i choose by what look i’m doing.
but i rarely wear eye m/u, i tend to wear more lip products.
i love to do pink nude lips or berry vampy lips.
deep wine lippies are my fave too.
i just cant wear bright pink lips, it looks like shat on my tan skin.. *head desk*
I notice that l/l will soon become my friend and will help me w/ fixing any problem I may have w/ a lip color suiting my skintone.
I usually pick my makeup or my clothes in the morning, and then coordinate the other around the one I chose, lol. So, if I’m doing warm greens/coppers, I pick a nude. If I’m doing cooler pinks/purples I’ll pick a subtle pink. If I’m pressed for time and do a really neutral eye, then I’ll pick out one of my darker lippies, like a red or berry.
Mainly I’ll dare to try anything. How my eyes look determines what I’ll wear on my lips considering all I ever wear is black.
For redheads like me it’s quite simple

I consider my skin complexion and the overall look I’m trying to convey. I love reds, pinks, and browns. Since I’m a honey brown woman, I feel I could carry these looks; so, I rock them full force. I am hesitant about purples and pale pinks, though. In addition, if I’m wearing strong eye makeup, I’ll keep my lip color light or neutral to avoid competition or the “clown look”. If I desire a stronger lip color, I neutralize or mute my eye color.
I base it on what I’ve done with the rest of my makeup and what colors I’m wearing. If I do a strong eye, I’ll do a lighter lip & vice versa. If I’m wearing warm tones I’ll do a warm toned lipstick, and the same with cool tones. If I’m wearing no makeup at all I’ll still do a lip gloss or balm.
I always make sure it does not clash with my blush. If my blush is more pink based, then I will go for a richer coral/brown toned lipstick. I don’t like being too “matching” in that department by having pink lips and cheeks!
I usually base my lip color of my eyeshadow. I refuse anything that makes me look washed out. Sometimes I have to experiment with two or three depending on my look.

I keep all my lipstick in a basket, the ones that are for keeping odds and ends in that you can buy at home decor stores. In the morning I reach in and pull one out and that’s the colour I wear!
I always always wear neutral lipcolors these days. As I’m getting older- (44) I’ve just found that I’ve fallen in love with the nude or neutral lip look. I can find one of my fave lipsticks to go with any eye look. For instance today on my eyes I’m earing Mac Vanilla all over with BE Purrfect in the crease and Your Ladyship on bbone, wet lined with BE Foliage. I am wearing a nude lipstick, Fairest Nude by L’oreal, which is a really pretty nude. Some of my other faves are Mac High Tea, Jubilee, Entwined-gone forever sadly as I LOVE that color, Embraceable, Hug Me,Blankety, and Rimmel Paradise, which is a very neutral mauve/brown. I have ONE lipglass that I wear over every single lipstick–Spirited. It is my absolutely HOLY GRAIL of lipglosses. I have several backups at home and if they were d/c it I will stockpile like crazy.
