My favourite eyeshadow is a golden-orangey colour. I love it to bits and I’m really attached to it. About 6 months ago, I was looking for another colour, pushed a few eyeshadows around and suddenly I sense something falling and hear a crash. I look down, hoping whatever fell down did not break and it’s my favourite colour, smashed to dust. I was lucky that even though the case broke, it didn’t open, so I saved it. I’ve re-pressed now and still use it.
There was once I left my makeup bag behind at a dressing room as I was helping some pple do their makeup for a show , and I rushed back to the place very next morning hoping to find it before the cleaners arrived, and man, am I glad and relieved it was still there.
The trauma of leaving behind my stash was enough to keep me up all night, and perhaps is only something a make up junkie can understand.

Somehow some pencil shavings from my MAC Feline e/l got on the carpet, then I walked in them and dragged them all around my room…. now my light coloured bedroom carpet has black little stains ALL around it… I can’t get them out.
And I’ve dropped a jar of pigment or two everywhere…
And I’ve left lipgloss in my car in the heat and it’s melted EVERYWHERE.
And I’ve dropped a bottle of foundation and it sprayed allllll over my bedskirt.
Gosh I sound clumsy.
That sounds like me actually. don’t feel bad.
i was doing my nails in my car, and forgot to screw on the top on the bottle. So next time i opened and closed my door, there was nailpolish everywhere. The car was 2 months old at that point.
I have feline tracks all over my room too! And I rent. And the landlord is my roommate’s parents! :S
One of my foundations has a pump, and apparently I wasn’t expecting the pressure to be so high. I pumped it onto the back of my hand and squirted past my hand to my wall, carpet, and a little on my mirror. Thank god it got out of my carpet!
Thankfully, I haven’t had too many accidents other than the fingernail chipping of pressed products (usually while depotting).
I did make a mess in my car once when a red lipstick rolled out of my purse and under the passenger seat, staying there and melting. Ew.
I’m sure many of us have had the experience of using a new MAC MSF (in Warmed or whatever that color is called) and having it slip only to fall and shatter on the floor. Fortunately, if you crush them up enough, they make a fairly nice pigmented powder.
Also accidentally spilled Accent Red Pigment all over my bathroom light grey bathmat. That was fun.
Only nicking stuff (usually eyeshadows) with my nails!
At my old apartment, I shattered my Waternymph e/s all over my bathmat, so it had these bright turquoise areas, and my carpet had several black quarter-sized spots of Carbon e/s ground into them–i used makeup remover on it to get most of it off, but not completely.
I carry a small makeup bag in my purse and once a lipgelee came uncapped and squirted all over everything, eww.
And of course, depotting shadows, everything’s going perfect and then right at the end when putting them in the palette, the surface shatters and big chunks flake off! ;(
I have problems in depotting matte e/s. One went into several pieces, and other two have a large crack. I don’t dare to try again.
I spilled some of my Bell Bottom Blue pigment from MAC on my cream/tan colored carpet. I almost had a stroke. But it came out easily because I have a carpet cleaner/vacuum at home.
One time I was also getting out of my car and my purse was open and one my pink shadows from MAC fell out of my purse and went into several pieces all over the ground. Good thing I had a back up in one of my quads.
OMG one time I was using my LORAC blush/bronzer duo in Hot Flash and I dropped it on my white ceramic tile floor. The blush side only, busted into a million little pieces and got all over the tile and it took forever to get it out of those tiny little cracks! I was soooo sad because that was my favorite blush 🙁
ok…so i have a bad story. I usually travel overseas a lot…so this tym, when i was goin back home in ASIA for a wedding, i kinda took a little more of my high end makeup…(MAC pro-palattes/blush)…some cool perfumes. The bag or the suitcase was THROWN n ABUSED (security check) soo many tyms..crossing practically half the globe, that my perfumes wer lost…one of my e/s palattes crushed (MAC..:(), 2 blushes in palate turned to powder… and not sustaining the pressure, 2 lipsticks just got broke..
I had packed pretty well…but security people wud not do that again…also, i cant carry these make up wth me in CABIN baggage..RULES!!!
I’m usually pretty careful but I once dropped a nearly new Sculpt and Shape duo and it shattered all over the tile in my bathroom 🙁 I saved the pieces but I’m not sure how I’ll be able to fix it because one side was matte dark and the other a shimmery highlighter…
This just happened to me. I recieved the 120 eyeshadow palette yesterday. It arrived in perfect condition from Hong Kong. I unwrap it and set it on a chair. It then slips off and two eyeshadows shattered and 3 others chipped. I’m so annoyed with myself that I could have something that survied international shipping but can’t last five minutes in my possession.
One afternoon I ran home, just for a second, so I left my purse on the kitchen counter rather than putting it away (I think I just ran in to grab some papers before an appointment) I guess my father needed said counter space so he moved my purse. The problem is he moved it onto the stove top where my brother had just finished cooking. My purse was ruined and all my make up inside was melted to gooey grossness. I was so upset with him for not checking before he moved my bag there.
How horrible! Yet…funny. I could see my fiance accidently doing that. Man!

well once i left a brush cleanser bottle on my makeup case i didn’t know it was kinda opened and well it spilled all over the case and ruined my Neon sci-fi bronzer and my heatherette highlighter powder and a whole eyeshadow palette, i totally lost my MIND!! i got to save the neon sci fi and the heatherette but non of the eye shadows.
I had taken in a stray cat and he was staying in my bathroom, away from my other kitties, until he could get his shots. One night he went on a mini-rampage, knocking things over, clawing up my shower curtain, breaking stuff… he shattered several eyeshadows and one jar of green pigment got open and it was EVERYWHERE- on the floor and walls and all over the kitty’s cream-colored fur. It was hilarious, actually- the fact that none of my favorites got ruined helped. And now the kitty is settled in and very mild-mannered. 🙂

I dropped a foundation bottle in the bathroom sink once and it completely shattered.
The worst accident didn’t have anything to do with me, though. I got home from work to find my cat had knocked my brown/neutral palette on the ground, shattering severaly eyeshadows. And then she played with them. So I had Embark and Romp and whatnot *all over the house*.
UGH I always drop my palettes, don’t ask me how, and have broken a couple shadows, and i always nick, and chip them. I never twist my lipstick up very far, just enough, but somehow they break, which is REALLY annoying. I’ve had a pack of gum melt inside my make up bag. I never knew gum could melt in one’s purse. I’ve learned liquid foundation likes to squeeze out of the bottole, i’ve dropped liquid foundation, which isn’t a fun mess. I forgot to fully close my loose powder foundation in my make up bag. MORE FUN. I’m very clumsy and forgetful. :]
I always get red makeup all over everything…… once it’s on my hands – it then ends up everywhere else.
I dropped my Barbie Loves MAC Pearl Sunshine compact and all of the powder shattered. Thankfully I had just gotten wood floors so it was easy to put back together. I didn’t bother pressing it back into the pan, but I put it in an old MAC face powder jar. Prior to the wood floors, I would drop pencil shavings on the floor constantly and got marks all over the carpet.
I also left a lipstick in the car while on vacation in the California Redwood forests. It got up over 100 degrees with 100% humidity, so it melted.
I have spilt my Dior loose powder at least 6 times – it has a screw on lid which I never bother to screw on…I guess I never learned my lesson!
Yesterday I had some major retardation with fluidline. First I made the line too thick and then I had the bright idea to smudge it out which ended up in a hot black mess approching wino status! When my entire lid was covered in fluidline I admitted defeat and took it all off to start over. Then the eyemakeup remover wouldnt dry and was making everything slip and slide around , I wiped under my eye and it streaked everywhere so I started yet again but by then my eyes were all red and I was annoyed at my stupidity so I ditched the fluid line and used liquidlast for the top only. GRRRRRR 🙂 Does anyone else have days like that???

The main thing that has happened to me in the past is having my pressed powder scatter in my handbag. This sometimes happens when my powder is nearly been finished and when using it in the morning, I’ve had to break a few of the sections off from the side so that I can swipe it with a sponge or brush to put on my face. It’s usually okay doing this but there have been times when the compact has maybe not been fully closed and the small pieces of powder have fallen out and scattered in my handbag. It looks like there’s been a snowstorm in my handbag!
I placed my powder foundation on the counter one morning. a curious feline then decided to jump up and see what I was doing. She landed on the compact causing it to fly to the side, hit a drawer and then sail through the air to land face down in the litter box.
The special effects were movie worthy.

When my dog was a puppy, my husband let him chew on water bottle caps (well, he still does) for a while to keep him busy and I had just come home from the mall with a few mac purchases. To his sweet little eyes, a mac single eyeshadow looked just like his fave chew toy, so he chewed up and ATE a brand new dark green shadow. I put him in time out and was seriously livid, this was minutes after I had bought it!! Then after I let him back into the living room, he threw up dark green vomit =/ I tried to clean it up, but there’s still a little spot 3 years later, at least it’s under the stairs. =)
I’ve had two nail polishes break and go all over my bag & it’s contents. You think I’d learn – don’t carry nail polish around!
by accident i knocked over an entire MAC mutiny pigment
I don’t know if this is my fault (I don’t think so) but I just opened my fashion mews 2 days ago (I left it unopened…I don’t know why) and it’s broken at the bottom! I’m so sad because it’s sold out all across town and the website!
I had to exchange my Fashion Mews because when I got home and opened it it was broken at the bottom too!
you can fuse the lipstick back together! Not sure what the best way to do this is, but I would probably use a lighter to carefully melt the broken ends (not too much) and then stick them together. You can probably find a tutorial for it on YouTube.
Once, I hope this will never happen again, I knocked over my Cocomotion pigment, it was a sad moment for me because it’s my first pigment, I cried, I’m glad I still have some left. 😀
not really a makeup accident….
when i was in college, an assignment in studio photography was to recreate an AD. i choose a cool water fragrance ad because the lighting was nice. i bought a bottle with my mom’s credit card (it’s totally a school suply, right?!) After i had the shot i bumped the sweep and it rolled off and smashed to bits on the studio floor. worst of all, everyone knew it was me because of my shot and the fact that the studio reeked for weeks. oh, and i couldn’t return it when i was finished so i had to pay my mom back.

Occasionally, I blink when applying my liquid eyeliner and fudge up my shadow. Oh, it angers me!
I also dropped one of my favorite shadows and the whole thing broke and went all the floor. *tears*
Oh yeah, and I took makeup with me on a vacation, and every shadow broke and my lipglosses and general tubed items exploded. It was ATROCIOUS. That one was probably the worse. I’ve never been so upset over makeup. I paid a lot for that stuff, and I am a poor student! Stupid airport people anyway.
Well never any accidents with my own makeup.
But while at the mac counter during the Holiday collection with the mineralized trio eyeshadows, I was checking out “Danger Zone” dropped it accidently and it broke and shattered all over the floor. 🙁

When I visit my bf we have a very tight schedule since he is always working…So sometimes I end up putting make up in the car…One time I was trying to put my mineral foundation on…and one of my friends scared me through the window and I spilled the mineral foundation all over me and my bf’s car…Yeah my bf was NOT happy at all lol >_< (Men and their cars, pft)
I was at work when my Blot Powder crashed to the floor and shattered all over the office’s dark carpeting. I got up what I could, but salvaging the powder wasn’t going to happen. Luckily, I worked across the street from a mall with a MAC store and went over there on my lunch to get a replacement. The day was saved and oh yeah the carpet was cleaned when I arrived at work the next morning lol!
I keep some of my make up in a big plastic container with a lid on top of my chest of drawers. One day I lifted it up to move it onto my bed so I can try and find something in it. Unfortunately the lid wasn’t on properly and it remained in my hand while the box hit the ground. Fortunately only one very cheap palette got a bit broken (a few of the colours) and nothing else. But it could have been a lot worse.
I’ve had some trouble with things getting damaged in the post lately though, I bought some items from Ebay incl. Stila Precious Pearls palette and the white shadow got shattered because the seller didn’t wrap it properly. 🙁 Got refund, but it’s still annoying.

not rly makeup…but i dropped a bottle of dark purple nail polish on my bathroom tile…took me forever to pick up the pieces of glass and my tiles are still stained purple
my lancome lip gelee’s (pot lipgloss)lid fell open in my make up bag…ALL the products and my makeup bag were covered with sticky lipgloss AND the same thing happened to TWICE…im more upset the second time b/c lip gelees are discontinued…

some how one of my clear top coats (nail polish) ended up in the cup holder of my moms car
not sure if she had used it but im pretty sure i used it and forgot to screw on the top tight enough
the nail polish spilled alllllllllll in the cup holder and the hot summer weather made it turn into intensely thick goop. I went to get some coins from the cupholder but i stuck my hand in this mess. My mom was mad and after it dryed we were able to pry it out. The nail polish had TONS of coins sealed into the sry polish along with the bottle ! WE WILL NEVER LEAVE POLSH IN THE CAR AGAIN
Not too long ago, I dropped my MAC palette. This sepcific palette held my pressed pigments. And guess what? All of them shattered on my baby blue carpet 🙁

Just today I dropped a MAC quad palette I had put together and Climate Blue broke a little.
I’m just cringing while reading these! Our poor makeup! I recently depotted all of my MAC eyeshadows. I cracked a few of the matte shades (Carbon, Shadowy Lady, and a few others). Some chunks came out of them. I was annoyed, but all-in-all I’m really glad I depotted all 50-something of them. I will use all of them more often now. I guess that mishap had a happy ending.
more often than i would like! once i dropped a little bottle of benefit highlighter and it spilled on my (white) bed skirt; earlier this week i knocked over my jar of BE foundation and had to vacuum it up before it got ground into the carpet.
but more often, “accidents” are things like, getting mascara on my brow bone or on the side of my nose, or being absentminded and almost putting UDPP on my lips instead of my eyes (the wand applicator, LOL).
i knocked over a brand new bottle of estee lauder doublewear all over my carpet. it won’t come out properly, and i lost most of my bottle! and that stuff isn’t cheap 🙁
I once knocked over a bottle of She-laq from Benefit.. thank goodness it was 2/3 full, not a brand new bottle.. Those stories about damaging e/s from depotting really keeps me from depotting my own shadows. I guess I will just b2m them when I actually use them up! lol
I walked into my bedroom to find my son diggin his nails into one of my pallets and my husband sitting on the bed watching tv. my husband was the one who got in trouble for that one
OH and just recently i unscrewed the cap on my Fix+ for my bestie to smell because i didnt want to spray it and waste anyway well i screwed the cap too tight broke it and it spilled everywhere. should have just sprayed it 🙁

OMG, while visiting my mother, I left several palettes on her sink. She knocked all of them over, as well as a case of my Milani Runway effects with thsie fragile bars… broke the milani, broke a palette, and shattered every single shadow in the pallete. I’m still scared to open that broken palette so I can reassess the damege and replace those shadows… it’s just that bad.
grrr…my carbon e/s got all over my new purse when i was traveling from dominican republic back home…i had my 15 pan palette in my purse in my suitcase and it went all over! cleaning that eyeshadow is the worst
I was backing out of my parents’ garage and heard this strange noise. I got out of the car and realized I ran over my powerpoint eye liner! Straight cracked!
I once fumbled MAC’s Tilt Eyeshadow and it hit the ground. Normally it’s okay when that happens, but I opened it and the shadow had completely lifted out of the metal pan. Sad, but I’m glad I bought some those MAC empties. I just put what I could in there and had an empty case to save for my Back to MAC collection.
Ive had plenty of accidents…the most memorable being those black pigment splotches all over my white carpet. They stay there, laughing at me…
DO NOT USE AN AIRCAN TO ‘DUST OFF ‘ YOUR PALETTES.
I ruined all my shadows in the big 15 palette. It was the great palette disaster of 07.

I have a feeling it won’t be long though! At my boyfriend’s house, his bathroom has like ZERO sink space, so I have to be super careful when using my makeup. Recently he bought me a little 3-tier table/stand so I have somewhere to put my stuff, which gives me a little more room to work with, but I’m still worried because both of us are a bit clumsy.
At my place, I store a lot of my makeup on shelves in my walk-in closet (right next to my bathroom sink vanity area), especially non-MAC palettes. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve knocked some of those palettes onto the closet floor while trying to reach for something else! Good thing there is usually a small pile of clothing (all clean, of course) there to break the fall!
I spilt almost an entire bottle of nail polish on my carpet. I was in the middle of doing my nails and it fell off the my bed and under it, it took me forever to find it and by the time I did my carpet was covered in nail polish.
One day I was running late to get the train so I just put my l/s in my pocket. The day turned out to be like 40 degrees and it melted in my pocket. It was my favourite l/s and it was from one of the 2008 holiday lip sets so I couldn’t just buy it separately.
Oh sheesh. Once my dog ate my green eyeliner and smudged it ALL into my beige carpet. It took HOURS to clean. Sadness.
