Temptalia Asks You - Do you wear makeup when your skin is acting up?

Do you wear makeup when your skin is acting up? Like a breakout?  Dry patches?  (What-have-you!)

.

I wear what I feel I need to not be totally self-conscious about it, but I do try to only wear it when I’m going out for longer than 10-15 minutes (e.g., not just the grocery store).

I usually don’t, if I do than it’s usually just MAC’s MSF natural. I try to keep it light, and if my skin is acting up then I find it goes away faster if I just let my skin breathe, and keep it very clean. I have very dry skin anyways, and so if I do get blemishes most of the time they have dry skin around them and you can’t conceal stuff like that and it just makes it look worse.

Well if I have dry patches or something I take extra good care of them with a huge moisterizer and for make up I just try to draw the attention away of the dry patches, make a smoky eye or something…. Fortunately I never really break out (lucky me!)

I do, but it really only acts up once a month. Ahem. Darn that auntie-visitor-time! Haha. But I do worry a tad & feel guilty a tad also… I don’t want to make it worse. Sometimes I just need it to feel comfortable when in front of more social crowds, or the mall, not the market no.

Yes, I do wear makeup if my skin is acting up simply because you can do so much with makeup to trick the skin into looking fabulous–even when it’s not. Light reflective makeup, mineral makeup, concealer, silicone-based smoother…all of these can really make a difference.

Like you I only put makeup on when I’ll be out for a while or be seen by a lot of people. I find it to be a real hassle to get my foundation to go on nicely when I’m breaking out and it takes a long time to cover up those blemishes. When my skin is dry I pretty much skip foundation as it looks so much worse and just accentuates any dry flaky skin.

If I’m going to be home, or going to my Mom’s, or something, I don’t. However, if I’m going out, I will, or I am WAY too self-conscious. At least something to cover up, not necessarily full face.

My face breaks out in tiny pimples when I consume dairy products, so I mostly try to avoid them but sometimes a yoghurt or some ice cream is just too tempting. It doesn’t alter my makeup very much, though, because I can usually cover it with some concealer, and my skin is otherwise clear.

It depends on where I’m going, how long I will be out and how bad the breakout is. Usually I won’t wear any makeup because I know it will make it worse. Sometimes I’ll put a full face on to then take it off again — makeup just looks better on me when my skin is clear!

I have difficult skin so I break out weekly and I can tell if it’s a product reaction at this point in my life. So if it’s just my skin being itself and no longer reacting to my acne regimen I change that up but usually I still do my makeup since it doesn’t seem to affect my acne at this point. Plus I’m very careful to find oil-free noncomedogenic face stuff and that seems to help.

Lately though I have been getting drier skin due to the weather change and santanas so I’ve been looking for a good moisturizer. Last day to get 20% off at Sephora so I might pick something up.

I’ll cover pimples with concealer and powder the shiny bits, but if my skin is irritated, I won’t make it worse by putting heavy foundation on it. I’ll use a non-irritating sunscreen on and leave it alone to heal.

If I’m staying home, I wear lip balm or gloss. When I go out for longer than half an hour, I usually wear a lighter amount of foundation and concealer over obvious blemishes. Sometimes though, it’s better not to conceal it and let the acne be when they’re really big.

Only if I’m going to a big-deal event. I actually didn’t even own foundation until late this summer, and I only bought it because I was a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding and didn’t want to have a big distracting zit in the pictures. I don’t have major acne problems but since I turned 25 I’ve had cysts on my chin, and I’m pretty fair so the redness stands out. But if I’m just going to work or out and about, I don’t make a lot of effort to cover them. I *might* dab concealer on them if they’re really fuschia, but I feel like I’d rather have them out in the open than have them look better but get worse from being occluded.

I tried to leave it alone and let my skin breath. When I go out for the day, I would use concealer and powder at least for the blemishes. For dry patches I leave it alone because, makeup could actually make it look worst.

I’m very fortunate as I have very little trouble with my skin. In my teens I had a big acne problem. I went on Accutane and I haven’t looked back! I def. recommend it to those considering it!
….
Anyways, I just wear an MSF natural. Works well!

Amy Avatar

Nope. I figure the more I leave it alone and let my skin breathe, the sooner it will go back to normal. Often I’ll pay extra attention to my eyes to draw attention away from the rest of my face. Of course, after the horrible cystic acne I had a few years ago, a blemish here or there is not embarrassing at all.

Jadetive Avatar

Nope. I don’t want to pile more stuff on my face. Even if I really want to, I ‘ll only use concealer when the acne is in the healing stage, not the red, inflamed stage.

Depends on how badly I’m breaking out. If it’s just a stray little pimple here or there, I usually am able to just zap it with a salicylic acid treatment and not worry about it. If it’s a cystic outbreak on my nose though… I skip everything but sunscreen (and maybe just a dab of powder for oil) and heap on my Juice Beauty Soothing Serum as well. I’ve found that + extra sleep (as stress and sleep dep seem to be my #1 culprits) do the best in not further aggravating my acne and helping it heal faster. Plus… more concealer/foundation on angry red peeling zits usually just makes it look worse in my experience.

If I am going to run a small errand or see my grandma or be at home, I wont wear any make up but if I am going to school or hang out with a friend of mine its a must have!
