Tarina Tarantino Jasper/Agate Eye Dream Highlight Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Tarina Tarantino Jasper/Agate Eye Dream Highlight Duo
Tarina Tarantino Jasper/Agate Eye Dream Highlight Duo ($19.00 for 0.26 oz.) is described as a “soft golden beige” and “muted light fawn.” The compact doesn’t seem too large, though it’s certainly bigger than most eyeshadow duo compacts, but each eyeshadow is over twice the size of your average full-sized eyeshadow at a whopping 0.13 oz. each. I can’t envision running out of either shade in a hurry!
Jasper is a warm, yellowy beige with a frosted finish. The color payoff is good (even better on the eye, though still good in the skin swatch), and the texture is soft, smooth, and very blendable. Cle de Peau #207 is slightly pinker, less yellow. Urban Decay Skimp is less yellow, more beige. theBalm Hiii-Yaaa! is less yellow, more peach.
Agate is a light-medium brown with warm undertones and a frosted finish.  It has the same soft, smooth texture I’ve come to expect from the brand, along with good pigmentation. MAC Arena is similar but a little darker. MAC Sweet Satisfaction is similar, a little less frosted. Chanel Eclosion has a slight pink tinge to it. MAC Grain is similar in color but not frosted.
Undoubtedly, this is a straight-forward eyeshadow duo–it’s not particularly unique or inspiring, but it is extremely useful for anyone who reaches for neutrals often. I think of all duos/palettes, the neutral ones tend to be the most successful, because they’re easy to use and versatile. I absolutely love Tarina Tarantino’s eyeshadow formula–it is one of the best on the market–so having go-to neutrals with such amazing textures is worth having. It’s not a must-have if you rarely wear neutrals or have a ton already, but if there’s a gap of neutrals in your stash, this is worth checking out. Â Without a base, these two wore for eight hours without creasing/fading but did have some slight fading after ten hours. Â With a primer, I didn’t have any issues.

I am so going to pick this up! I love my neutrals and these would go with anything!
I’m surprised you’ve rated this so high! It doesn’t seem pigmented enough. And I generally LOVE TT eyeshadows!
Pretty pigmented when I used it (without a primer), though not perfect – hence the 9/10, but it was close to full coverage color!
Oh! I think it is a color very close to your natural skin color and hence my misunderstanding 🙂
Also now that you updated the Agate swatche it is clearer to me why this might be nice 🙂
This actually looks like a pretty everyday kind of duo, or something to wear with a bold lip. How would you say it compares to Hourglass Suede?
Suede seems cooler-toned – I think that is where it would be different. If I’m remembering correctly, the darker side of Suede is almost grayish compared to this one. They seem like they’re similar, though!
I cannot tell a lie… they both look the same to me!
In both the photos (the swatches and on your eyelid), they look the same! I’m guessing the difference is more clear in person? Doesn’t seem worth it as a duo if they’re so similar in my opinion, though I love the brand in general.
Agate is definitely darker, but they’re both close enough to my skin tone that it may be harder to see the difference! 🙂
The reason why is they’re the same photo, LOL! The swatch photos should be right now – Jasper was showing up twice!
Haha I was very confused!
Ooohh I wear a lot of neutrals for work. Jasper and Agate look very pretty. ^^ Doesn’t look too frosted, I think.
Why didn’t you swatch them side by side?
I swatch everything so it can be in a single swatch so they can be compared in our Swatch Gallery! 🙂
Do you think this would work well on pale, cool-toned skin? Your description of the texture and wear has me wanting this, but I’m not sure if it’s too warm or frosty.
I actually think it could! It’s so neutral that I think the warmth in it is very natural – I don’t see it looking yellow, orange, or red on cool skin tones. You may also like Iris Plume/Moon Opal, which is a little purplish, but I can see that being lovely on cool complexions.
I went to Sephora today with the intention of grabbing one of these duos, but they jacked the price to $26 in Canada. I might pick up the 5-shadow Delightful palette instead since it’s only $12 more, or maybe just plan a cross-border haul soon!
i use this as a face highlight, on tops of cheek bones, it is so amazing 🙂
They seem boring.
I love this duo. TT really does have top notch quality shadows. Christine you rock! Thanks for another great review
Looks very good.
Love this duo! & the love it or leave it buttons are back!! Yay!!
I recently started getting into this brand, I think I will be checking this out thankyou for the review! Does it look like UD Sin at all?
I was going to purchase one of her holiday palettes on sale at Sephora, but I did’nt think I would use the frosty pink so I passed. Looks like now I will get to try her shadows.
I would say Sin is pinker 🙂
it kinda reminds me of the NARS All About Eve duo.. both light neutrals. 🙂
All About Eve is so sheer for me I can hardly get it to show up or get on my brush…maybe mine came from a bad batch.
While the quality and quantity is there the two shades seem way too similar. Usually I prefer my crease shade to be at least a little bit darker than Agate is. Those both seem like lid shades to me without a shade for the outer v or crease. Still, if they have any similarly neutral duos like this with a bigger difference between the intensity of the two shades I’d be interested.
Christine is your compact hard to open?I just got this exact same product and it is SOOO difficult to open. I have gouged the product with my nail on more than one occasion trying to PRY the container open.
Every time I open it this happens and chunks of the shadow get loosened.
It’s like it’s super glued shut! I’m thinking I should return for a new one. This is really a nuisance, because I love the duo. Thankyou for your input!
I would return it – I have all of the duos and none of them were difficult to open! I did recently have an Urban Decay eyeshadow that I had to pry open because the glue ran over, so it had sealed the actual compact shut!
Will you be reviewing the iris plume duo?
