What are your deal-breakers when it comes to considering a new eyeshadow palette?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to considering a new eyeshadow palette?

For review purposes… anything over 30 shades I have to really think about whether I’ll be able to test and review (and pull dupes) fast enough to make it worth the effort. For personal use, I don’t like really large format palettes as they take up a lot of space. It doesn’t matter to me if...

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to considering a new lip color?

For me, totally flat and matte (not really into liquid lipsticks myself!), drying, and prone to emphasizing flakiness/lines.

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to considering a new cheek product?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to considering a new cheek product?

For me personally, I’m not hugely into matte finishes – I like a little bit of shimmer/shine as I also find that those are more blendable and easier to use. I also tend to prefer more buildable coverage or more mid-tone depths. I’d say: stiff/dry textures, overly pigmented + deep in hue,...

How long do you need (and how long do you want) your makeup to last?

How long do you need (and how long do you want) your makeup to last?

For my real life? Eight hours is more than sufficient since I’m inside most of the time, so when I leave, it only needs to look fresh for a few hours. I like makeup to wear for a solid 10 hours, though, because I think this allows for really good/strong wear for 8 hours and then a gradual...

What are you willing to trade off for longer wear in a lip product?

I’ll give up some hydration, but it can’t be actively drying where it causes my lips to crack/peel/bleed or otherwise SHOW the damage the next day.

What tips & tricks do you have for getting the most out of your collection?

I think it’s good to deliberately rotate through different products or by taking a moment every few weeks to pull out something that you know you haven’t used in awhile. My other tip is to keep things accessible and organized–the easier it is to find and use, the more likely you’ll be to...

If you don't like how your makeup has turned out, what do you do?

If you don't like how your makeup has turned out, what do you do?

If I have the time, I’ll completely remove it and start over. If I don’t, then I’ll try to correct it, whether that’s layering a glittery eyeshadow to distract from poor blending, buffing cheek colors to oblivion because it didn’t pair well, etc. If it’s the lip color, I’ll usually...

How do you organize your makeup?

How do you organize your makeup?

I organize a lot of my makeup by brand, then by formula, and if there’s a lot of a formula (like MAC Lipsticks), then I’ll organize by letter (As, Bs, etc.). I do keep staples out separated by type (e.g. highlighters with highlighters).

What makeup brand are you most likely to purchase from without a lot of research?

What makeup brand are you most likely to purchase from without a lot of research?

Most of the major brands I’ll buy from without quibbling over will it or won’t it be decent. I have started to hold back on buying full lines of certain types of products that seem like they might not be worth reviewing every single shade for (because they’ll fail based on metrics, e.g....
