What's your favorite finish for complexion? What do you use to achieve it?

What's your favorite finish for complexion? What do you use to achieve it?

In person, I like a natural finish – not quite semi-matte but not dewy. What I’ve been doing these days is mixing in an illuminating primer/liquid highlighter (been reaching for Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter) when I apply my foundation and then setting the perimeter of my face but going in...

What are some products that have been mainstays in your routine for years upon years?

What are some products that have been mainstays in your routine for years upon years?

Tough as someone who naturally cycles through products at warp speed and significantly more often than most, LOL! There are products I’ve been using for a couple of years, but I really wanted to share ones that I’ve been wearing for as long as I can recall, really. Here are some that come to...

How do you test a foundation to determine if it works for you?

How do you test a foundation to determine if it works for you?

I’m the worst! It usually takes me a dozen or more wears to determine if I just like a foundation. I can usually tell if I don’t like one within a few wears because there’s something in the application or how it sits on the face from the get-go that isn’t working for me. Otherwise, I’ve...

How do you test a concealer to determine if it works for you?

How do you test a concealer to determine if it works for you?

A part of me hates concealer because the only area that I see “aging” over time is underneath my eyes as my fine lines multiply and become more prominent, and my under eye bags get darker and more noticeable. I like to test concealer in terms of covering up unevenness or blemishes on my skin as...

What was the last product you bought because of rave reviews? How was it?

It was either Skinceuticals CE Ferulic or Sunday Riley’s UFO. They both do what they’re supposed to do as far as I can tell, but I don’t have particularly problematic nor reactive skin, so it’s not like, “My skin went from F to A!”

What was the last product you bought in spite of poor reviews? How was it?

I can’t recall! I have the privilege of buying products as they release so I am typically reviewing before lots of review come out. But I love reading answers to these types of questions!

What was the last beauty brand you tried? What was the verdict?

What was the last beauty brand you tried? What was the verdict?

I picked up a few within the same time frame, so they’ve been tested in some mixture. Bad Habit Beauty, which has been a mixed bag but some worthwhile palettes for sure but has really come down to the formulas used in a particular palette. Flesh Beauty, which I did not try a full assortment but...

Does social media do more harm than good in the beauty industry?

Does social media do more harm than good in the beauty industry?

I am torn; there are some good aspects, like when we collectively voice to brands that a shade range is poorly done or that we see through misogynistic and pandering marketing campaigns, because our voices are louder together and it’s easier to tweet than it is to write a letter into corporate....

What drugstore beauty brand needs a makeover?

What drugstore beauty brand needs a makeover?

Probably Revlon, since they’ve been around for a long time but I feel like they have the weakest offerings among the big drugstore brands (like Maybelline, L’Oreal, etc.).
