Does your makeup routine change for family occasions?

Does your makeup routine change for family occasions?

In the beginning, nope! I’d wear WHATEVER and I mean whatever. After awhile, I definitely dialed down and went a bit lighter/more traditional – often I was traveling to a place for a family event (funerals, weddings, etc.). These days, it’s really based on what we’re doing and what I have...

Do you ever keep a product's packaging?

Do you ever keep a product's packaging?

It’s extremely rare that I do to the point where I can’t really think of standout items where I have. Sometimes with press kits or boxes, I’ll keep interesting ones out for a few months, and then swap them out for newer pieces (breaking down and recycling the old ones).

What's your current, go-to special occasion look?

What's your current, go-to special occasion look?

I don’t have a real go-to; I tend to opt for warmer tones, either a jewel-toned eye if I’m feeling colorful or a smokier, gold/bronze kind of vibe and then pairing cheeks/lips from there.

Do gift with purchases entice you to purchase?

Do gift with purchases entice you to purchase?

I can’t recall an occasion where I made a purchase because of the gift with purchase. I’ll make a purchase where I get a gift card back or something like that, but if it’s a makeup bag or some travel-sized products… I don’t think I have (not intentionally, at least).

What makes a brand or retailer's sale or promotion compelling?

What makes a brand or retailer's sale or promotion compelling?

I feel like anything below 20% off is ho-hum–potentially compelling if I’m in need of something specific but anything less isn’t going to make me think about my wish list or reconsider what I might “want” or “need” at that specific moment. I don’t want to see price jumps, free...

What kind of packaging are you drawn to?

What kind of packaging are you drawn to?

I like clean lines, minimal wasted space, and something sturdy without being obnoxiously heavy or oversized. My all-time favorite packaging is probably Burberry’s — it’s subtle, clean, functional, and custom to the brand.

Has there ever been a product that just felt made for you?

Has there ever been a product that just felt made for you?

Pat McGrath’s Decadence really feels like it was for me since it was all shimmers, more jewel-toned, and incredibly pigmented… just all the things I gravitate toward in eyeshadow.

Is makeup more functional or more of a creative outlet for you?

Is makeup more functional or more of a creative outlet for you?

For what it means to me, it is more of a creative outlet than a functional one; like I’d ultimately apply it because of the joy I find in creating and putting together various color combinations and finishes. That being said, I’m usually testing at least half a dozen products each day (if not...

Does a palette need to be standalone or only complement what you already own to purchase?

Does a palette need to be standalone or only complement what you already own to purchase?

For me, complementary palettes are just fine. In years past, I’d have a go-to brow bone shade as a single, and I’d have no problem putting together a quad or small palette of go-to brow bone, transition, etc. type shades for my skin tone. Complementary palettes would offer more diversity then,...

How old were you when you first started wearing makeup? What about when you loved it?

How old were you when you first started wearing makeup? What about when you loved it?

I know I had my friend to my makeup on the sly a few times in high school, but I didn’t wear it regularly until I was 18 (when I started college). I fell in love with it pretty immediately!
