What do you look for in a seasonal collection?

What do you look for in a seasonal collection?

I like something that seems edited but still has some variety, and I like seeing a theme. Part of wanting to see variety in color is that I want to see products that can work across skin tones. Example: if a brand is going to release a blush, I don’t want to see something that is a shade that will...

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to mascara?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to mascara?

One of my pet peeves is mascara that applies a little differently every day (or every few days), which is sort of the issue I have with foundations (and why I don’t get excited about until after sustained use). Wetter mascaras that tend to clump up during application are usually more work then...

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to fragrance?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to fragrance?

I’m not keen on sugary, gourmand scents, and I’m not a fan of sweet, fruity scents generally. I tend to prefer woodier scents, and if I diverge, then things dominated by citrus, lavender, and greenery. I rarely have issues with longevity, so most fragrances last long enough for my needs.

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to concealer?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to concealer?

I prefer thinner, more buildable concealers or ones that are higher coverage but a little dewy and not too thick, so they dry down but don’t look too flat/matte. Obviously, it has to come in a shade match that works for me, too, but I feel like that goes without saying!

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to bronzer?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to bronzer?

I like redder, rustier tones, so anything more orange or too golden I won’t reach for. While I like both matte and shimmery bronzer, as I rarely wear bronzer all-over and tend to wear it as a semi-blush/contour so some shimmer is usually welcome.

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to powder eyeshadow?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to powder eyeshadow?

For more matte finishes: anything really powdery that has a lot of fallout, tendency sheer out, and thinner textures–I just find that weaker performers tend to have these kind of traits. For more shimmery shades: drier, more powdery bases where they can go on unevenly or require fingertip...

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to pencil eyeliner?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to pencil eyeliner?

Sheer pigmentation, drier/firmer formulas that tug or drag, and if it’s more than a few dollars, then it can’t dry out quickly!

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to cream eyeshadow?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to cream eyeshadow?

I personally prefer more pigmented cream eyeshadows since I’m nearly incapable of doing one-and-done (it’s not really… enjoyable? to me, like my favorite part of doing my makeup is eyeshadow so doing one shade isn’t satisfying–hopefully that makes sense!). The formula has to go on evenly,...

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to highlighter?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to highlighter?

I like light to intense glow, so anything really subtle ends up being a miss for me. I’m not particular about color or pigmentation level as I find most are forgiving and easy enough to work with. I love a more sparkling/glittery finish but it can’t migrate too much over time.

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to blush?

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to blush?

I’ve found that anything really intense–like a deeper hue–coupled with opaque coverage ends up being something I don’t reach for. I like more light and mid-tone colors and prefer medium, buildable coverage. I also don’t like thinner consistencies and prefer something with more slip or...
