I don’t mind them as long as they make enough stock to last a week or so. I can even live with a few days, but I think that people should have the ability to think on it for more than half of a second!

Makeup Brands + Social Media

I enjoy seeing what brands have to say about their products, seeing sneak peeks and products in action, but I find that sometimes what gets posted is too much about over-hyping products (and it really does make sense from the brand’s perspective) and gets old quickly (for me).

Makeup Reviews

I love reading reviews where it is clear that the person actually tried the product out–used it, wore it, checked in on it–to see how it performs. I want to hear about why someone liked or didn’t like a product in a meaningful way, not just “hated the color!” The latter drives me batty–I don’t mind a comment within a larger review to the effect of, “I didn’t think it was flattering on me,” though.

As someone who reads lots of press releases every week, I don’t want to hear or see press release verbiage in a review (unless it’s in quotes) passed off as the reviewer’s own words–I immediately lose interest and do not trust anything said in the review.

I also cannot abide by positive-only review policies and find it extremely difficult to rely on that person’s reviews, even when I’ve felt that they’re pretty honest. There’s something about the lack of “negative” reviews that is inherently dishonest to me. (Shouldn’t you be saving me from a potentially bad purchase?!)

Makeup Tutorials

I love when someone takes the time to walk-through and explain the steps and procedures while also offering alternative tips and tricks as they repeat steps. I don’t need to see everything in real time, but I like to have a good portion of it not sped up. Though I don’t think it’s necessary to use exactly what the person used in a tutorial, I would appreciate a list of products used!

Please keep the discussion to a high-level rather than critiquing any specific one person otherwise these posts derail very quickly. Thank you!

They feel really wasteful to me, even though I understand the appeal, and as someone who takes forever to finish a single jar of face masks, it would be more economical to just be able to tear open a fresh mask as-needed.

I so rarely wear it that I don’t really have any major rants! I think it can be a useful step for anyone who has skin that seems to break down foundation quickly or needs extra-long wear.

I like them when they’re versatile and not too mega in size — like 5-10 shades with a good variety in color. If they’re too large or have too much overlap within them, they get overwhelming.

For me, they’re overwhelming to review,
and they are rarely filled with 100% amazing shades – there will most likely be a few duds. I don’t mind palettes in the 15-or-less range, but when they creep up to 20, 30, etc., it’s too much for my taste.

Bronzer

I love when they’re redder in tone, less orange,
or when they have a browner base (without being red or orange). I tend to wear them more as slight contour or as a sculpting blush than all over the face.
