NARS

Rave: I love that their seasonal collections are more edited; they feel on-trend but never filled with tons of products just to sell more shades. They have some fantastic products in their range, like complexion products, primers, and lipsticks. Rant: They can be inconsistent in quality from shade to shade, and some of their eyeshadows could be better (in general).

ColourPop

Rave: I love how affordable they are, that they’re on-trend, and they aren’t afraid to release colorful or less traditional shades. Rant: I wish they had a stronger core range of products that stuck around more permanently; even things that are “permanent” seem to disappear after a few months–some shades ARE timeless!

Tinted Moisturizer

When I feel pretty good about my skin, I enjoy them for quick, slap-on-and-go makeup, but I tend to reach for buildable, medium coverage foundations (whatever I’m currently hooked on) even if I don’t necessarily need the coverage. I wish they had deeper shade ranges/more diverse undertones, though, as most brands have limited shade ranges.

Waterproof Mascara

I rarely wear it these days, as it’s not a necessity for me on a day-to-day basis and is usually harder to remove at the end of the day! I love that it exists, and it’s definitely what I’d opt for if I knew I was going to be out and about with possible crying moments!

Setting Sprays

I spend most of the day indoors or going from car to one air conditioned place, so I don’t find that they’re part of my daily routine. They’re useful for when I’m going to spend more time outside or if I have really, really long day elsewhere. I like when the mists are super fine, but when they aren’t fine, they can make eye makeup go quite awry!

Bronzer

Rave: I love reddish-toned bronzers with a bit of shimmer as they add depth and warmth to my face, and the bit of shimmer makes them easier to blend out overall. Rant: It’s not a one-size-fits-all kind of product and yet most brands treat the color range that way with one shade or if you’re lucky, two to three shades but rarely enough. I also feel like the undertones could be better in general offerings.

Liquid Blush

Rave: Sometimes they can have a dewier finish and have a more natural look to them as they tend to look like stains. Rant: They tend to take more effort to apply and blend out than a powder blush for me (on average), especially more pigmented formulas as they often pump/disperse way more product than needed (and can be hard to manage getting less out).

Liquid Highlighter

Rave: They tend to have smoother, more luminous finishes that don’t emphasize skin texture. They can also have a shinier, almost wet-look finish, too, that isn’t as typical of powder-based highlighters. Rant: The delivery systems often gives wayyy too much product, and they can sometimes lift up base products or spread too easily.

Foundation Brushes

Rave: I still reach for a brush over a sponge for applying my foundation! Sometimes, with more matte or quick-drying formulas, a sponge is nice to soften and make a finish a bit more flattering/natural after initial application, but otherwise, I’m a brush gal! Rant: I find the bristles can get too thick with product so they have to be cleaned often (preferably after each application but if lazy, two). To get every last bit of foundation out, they can take a little longer to clean, though I still find they’re faster and easier to clean thoroughly than sponges!

Matte Lipstick

Rave: I love the richness of most matte lipsticks, and it’s amazing how long some formulas can wear… Rant: but they’re often drying in order to have such long-wear! They can also stain, which can be good or bad depending on the particular day or how it stains.
