Swatch Saturday: Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows (Iridescent Finish)
This Saturday, here’s a swatch-a-palooza of the Iridescent shades from Make Up For Ever’s Artist Shadows ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) that I’ll be reviewing (a couple may have already been reviewed). This post does exclude any shades from the 30th Anniversary Palette (click the link for swatches of those), which I already posted before! 🙂
Any favorites?

OOO Bronze and Reptile are so calling my name!
They’re really lush!
I agree they are really lovely.
They’re the two that caught my eye too! Any chance of them together in a palette/duo?
The blue cedar one is GORGEOUS!
The finish makes it less common, I think!
The bronze and pinky clay….on my list for sure!!!
Pinky Clay is an interesting shade (though dupable).
Chrome, Wheat, Linen Khaki and Pinky Clay are so gorgeous! I’m not sure what’s happening to me this morning – I’m kind of on a neutrals kick, LOL! 😀
Haha! 😉
I like chrome a lot! Don’t own anything like it, and I feel like I have a lot of silvers/grays.
Chrome is an interesting shade!
Linen Khaki is an interesting colour I think – champagne beige with a touch of green – I think it’s my favorite and most unique of this particular bunch. 🙂
Awesome! 😀
Such gorgeous shades….especially Reptile, Pinky Clay, Linen Khaki, Olive Beige and Bronze. I don’t even wear blue shadow much at all and yet I love the look of Blue Cedar. If I could only have 3, it would be Bronze, Reptile and Olive Beige.
All great picks, Mariella! 🙂
Blue Cedar is so pretty! haha and I’ll totally buy Reptile just because it’s named Reptile.
Haha! Well, perhaps just to save you money if you don’t love the shade itself, but the names are technically just what Sephora gave them (Make Up For Ever doesn’t recognize them as real names!).
These are all gorgeous, especially Chrome and Pinky Clay! Will definitely check these out. Thanks for the swatches!
No problem, Sarah!
I want it all
I want it all
I want it all
And I want it now (sing it!)
Haha!
Pinky Clay reminds me of MAC Vex.
Yes, they’re very similar.
Chrome and Pinky Clay are so pretty. Who am I kidding, they’re all gorgeous! But I really love Chrome and Pinky Clay. 🙂
Those seem to be two of the faves!
These colors look so beautifully pigmented and lovely! *.*
Glad you’re liking them, Lana!
I love Blue Cedar!
Yay!
I love love these eyeshadow swatches!! Make Up For Ever I112 Chrome Artist Shadow is my favourite from this bunch!
It is an interesting shade!
These shadows look lovely – especially the Bronze and Reptile colours. I thought I would like the Blue Cedar more, but it was just a shade too light for my tastes. Did they swatch well?
When I’m ready to review, I will review! 🙂
Blue cedar looks nice. Love Bronze, I’m ready to try at least one of these new shadows soon.
I like the finish of Blue Cedar!
Is it my imagination, or does Makeup Forever just make really good (excellent) eye shadows? I’ve never used them, but it seems like every swatch looks about perfect.
A lot of them have been good so far!
:-O How is it possible that I haven’t seen Reptile before? Need it!
Luckily, all permanent so you can always go back to look for it 🙂
I’m in love with Pinky Clay! I feel like its a necessity in my life. 🙂
It has a cool duochrome (though it’s one of the duochromes that we’ve seen before).
I like Chrome, Bronze and Wheat a lot, but they are all so pretty and wearable.
This batch is definitely some of the more wearable shades, I think.
Pink Clay & Linen Khaki look a little duo-chrome-y?
Pinky Clay is definitely a duochrome.
Blue Cedar is really pretty!!
The finish makes it interesting!
Chrome is my top choice from this lot!
Yay!
OMG they are amazing, I wanna buy them all!
They’re hard to resist!
Reptile has now joined my happy (not so) little eyeshadow family. It looks darker than the photos here make it look but that could be because I’ve not even opened it yet. I also got S556 but was SO disappointed that the Sephora near me didn’t have either I 328 (Bronze) or D562 (Taupe Platinum) – it’s not that they were sold out there wasn’t even room in the gondola for them so it seems that some stores only have a limited selection of the full range. And man, is it EVER hard to find the colour(s) you might be looking for…..there is no logical organization – either by number (they’re not even close to being consecutive) or by letter/finish. It seems they’re grouped more or less by colour/colour family but that’s not especially helpful when you’re looking for specific shades/numbers. At least UD’s shadows are arranged alphabetically.
I’m with you, Mariella! It is CONFUSING. The numbering system makes it totally difficult from the start, but as it is primarily sorted by color… and there are so many in each color family… it is hard to distinguish. The boutique was the same way (but they did have all of them there) — arranged by color. I was just thankful that I could pull out the actual carton from behind each shade so we didn’t get lost in a sea of “Which one did you want?”
I can’t wait for you to test Reptile, though!
Oh, these shadows are BLISS! I’m wearing Reptile and Taupe Grey today and it’s such a wonderful combo. I was surprised that Taupe Grey applied as light as it did (it’s very pigmented but just lighter than it appears in the pan) but it looks really nice all over the lid. I’ve put Reptile in the outer corner and outer crease and blended it in – this stuff blends so easily and seamlessly! But here’s my confusion/question. WHERE did I see S556/Taupe Grey???? I have the number and the name and used them to shop but I cannot find Taupe Grey here on the site anywhere at all and yet I KNOW I must have seen it in a swatch-fest or similar feature that you would have done a few weeks ago. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even know this existed but I am not seeing it anywhere on the site.
Hey Mariella,
It exists, but I don’t have it! Well, I might have it NOW, because I bought a bunch, but I don’t have a swatch of it up yet!
So glad you are as impressed with the formulas I am! They go on sooo nicely!
Here’s what I don’t understand, though. I had written out this little list of shadows I wanted to get/check out (#’s and names) and Taupe Grey was on it (S556) – the ONLY place I’d have seen it and learned the name and # would have been HERE at Temptalia. There’s no place else where I’ve seen reviews or seen swatch photos. My little list has Reptile, Bronze, Bronze Khaki, Taupe Platinum, Pinky Clay and a few others. There’s just nowhere else I’d have seen them! It’s a mystery, I tell ya!
LOL! I mean, the only thing I can think of is you saw “taupe grey” and went “Yeah, gonna need that!” from the original post with the full list of shades available. I can’t find any mention of it on the site except our comment thread here!
Is it gorgeous, though?
I must admit, I just bought about 115 of them………. Shh.
Yes, they really ARE gorgeous but the display makes it so hard to find what you’re looking for and some of the shades are SO close (maybe a different finish or maybe one is slightly more green while the other is slightly more beige) so I end up picking up 3 or 4 that are so close to one another. And yeah – it would be very easy to buy 115 of them (I assume “ordered” or “bought” is the word you left out???). I’d be happy with 5 or 6 more. As Sephora only had part of the whole collection, I couldn’t find a highlight shade that was special enough/different enough for me to want it but some of the others…..whoo!
LOL! Yes, bought. I gave them a list of all the shades I didn’t have yet, and now I’m missing 15-20 (they didn’t have those in stock).
I agree – there are definitely some shades that are pretty close with slight differences in either finish, undertone, or lightness/darkness.
How does Bronze compare to MAC Golden Gaze? Thank you!
