I know Christine wasn’t wild for it, but as matte shadows go, I really like Dystopian. Slate is a fantastic shade, as is Twig (perfect crease/blending out shade for me). The shimmers – oh, my…Ember, Cinder and Steampunk are all so lovely. And Pearl is the sort of shadow I always like to have in a palette. I could pass fairly easily on Bloom (not my sort of shade at all) and Noir (nothing wrong with it but I have so many iterations of black and rarely use them) but everything else in this palette is fantastic!

Cyborg is stunning! It has this almost lilac shift to it. On the eye on a blank base it looks almost like a really beautiful warm silvery white, but layered over other shadows it shifts true silver and picks up on different tones.

Favorite product this month? Diorskin Pink Glow Nude Luminizer (I’ve been saving this gorgeous, expensive highlighter for special occasions, but this month I started thinking: how often do I actually have a special occasion? I adore this highlighter, so why let it sit in a drawer almost unused? Pretty silly. So I’ve been wearing it practically every day this month.)

Most used face/cheek products this month? NARS Orgasm Blush and Diorskin Pink Glow Nude Luminizer

Most used eye product this month? NYX Worth the Hype Mascara (I wore surprisingly little eye makeup this month, but always, always, always mascara!)

I love Pink Glow! I got it about a month ago (the last one they had in the store at that time, though they’ve since restocked) and it is so pretty! I have the LE “Glowing Gardens” one too and both are so lovely – I even enjoy just looking at them.

Skintone: Medium Warm (MAC NC37, GA Luminous Silk 6.5)

Favorite product this month: I was surprised to discover I basically bought only three items in October, unless you count last week’s Sephora haul, which I haven’t opened yet. And oh yes, the three new Pat McGRATH palettes are sitting unopened on my dining room table, because I am strongly considering sending them back. The looks I had previously seen (until I saw Christine’s two looks she posted today—which are stunning—where she used the new palettes with their predecessors) did not convince me these palettes were going to add something special to my stash.

The products I bought during the Sephora sale will have to be considered for my November favorites.

So the winner for October is: Bite Beauty Libra. I love this brown shade, so unique and perfect for fall.

Most used face and cheek: This month I created a cocktail of Paula’s Choice tinted sunscreens, Luminous Silk 6.5, and Drunk Elephant’s D Bronzi, and I wore it nearly everyday. I’ve also “discovered” Anastasia’s Amrezy highlighter. I bought it in spring, wasn’t feeling the gold, and basically left it untouched until October, and it has suddenly become my current favorite highlighter. I almost gave it away, lol.

Most used eye products: All three of the smaller Pat McGrath palettes released last fall, the big blue purple Natasha Denona palette, and the Natasha Denona Five Pan Palette #10 (with the orchid color).

I love Paula’s Choice sunscreen. I was loyal to CALM for normal-dry skin for maybe two years until I tried to find something more moisturizing and/or cheaper because I was flying through it. Tried a couple popular K Beauty options and La Roche Posay and they just don’t hold a candle to Paula. I came crying back (aka made a skincare haul when there was a sale and a promo) yestersay.

Your skin tone/coloring: Light-Medium with yellow warm undertones (NC 20-25)

Favorite product this month? I started using the BECCA Ultimate Coverage 24-Hour foundation and I really like how it looks, no matter the way I apply it (works beautifully with fingers, buffing brush, make-up sponge). It’s still not holly grail status (I reserve that for Estee Lauder Double Wear and MAC Prolongwear Waterproof), but the way my base make-up looked this month is a favorite.

Most used face/cheek product this month? Well… I use foundation, concealer and powder everyday (and I own only one of each)… but keeping it to the cheeks, I mostly used MAC Harmony, didn’t felt this month the need of more color on my cheeks.

Most used eye product this month? I use mascara everyday, so it would be my current one NYX Worth the Hype Mascara (which actually is not that worth the hype and it also dried out very fast)

Favorite product this month? MAC Shape + Shade Brow Tint! I like Stila’s brow pen too, but the Stila runs out in six months or sometimes much less (I think maybe the felt tip can get irreparably damaged by using it over greasy skincare? Or maybe it just randomly dries out…) and the sheer/buildable color can take a while to build up when the pen is being fussy. MAC’s doesn’t last as well throughout the day without a base but man is it fast and easy to apply and the pen itself is solidly constructed. The powder side is nice too. I use it to fill the start of my brows on days I want a more “done” look.
Most used face/cheek product this month? Glossier Puff Cloud Paint. It’s everything a blush should be: easy to apply without overdoing it, long lasting, a pretty texture on the skin, and a gorgeous fresh color. A++
Most used eye product this month? I might be in a rut, but it’s a happy rut. Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks in Sand Glow and Caramel. Sandglow is a great sheer wash or heavy on inner corners. Caramel is gorgeous for a soft grungey eye that goes with basically any lip.

Favorite product this month: I revisited a couple of oldies from my stash, the Dior Dreamskin Cushion and Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion. I have sort of jumped back on the Asian beauty market and have purchased quite a bit from YesStyle, StyleKorean and what skin care they have at Sephora that is Asian. The Dior Cushion really has less than light coverage, like nothing, but it does protest your skin from pollution, imparts a nice level of glow and makes my foundation last longer. It is ridiculously expensive but it does come with a refill and since I use so little of it I have been able to make it last for a long time. Sulwhasoo is known as the makeup for “older” women in Korea. I like the coverage and the finish on this one but the shade is just a hair off for me. I have taken the cushion out, added a little L.A. Girl White Foundation drops and a couple of drops of moisturizer to help the added products mesh with the cushion then flipped the cushion a couple of times and voila, right shade. For those unfamiliar with cushion foundations, when they appear to be all used up you just take some tweezers, pull up on the foam cushion and it comes out very easily. You then just flip it over and you will have quite a lot more foundation. I have flipped mine sometimes 3-4 times and still getting foundation out of them. I have also made my own cushion by using an empty one, washing it well and then adding my own foundation, skin care, moisturizer, etc. It works better with a more liquid foundation and that is why I picked up the Synchro Skin Foundation.
You can buy empty cushions to make your own on-line, also.

Most used face/cheek product this month: See above and Jill Stuart blush in shade 06.

Most used eye product: Pat McGrath Mothership V, Bronze Seduction. I haven’t had it the whole month but have used it almost daily since receiving it.

Favorite product this month? Pat McGrath Sublime Bronze Temptation palette, ABH Sultry Palette and Pat McGrath mini lipstick in Full Panic (described as bright fuchsia). I had my mind on buying Elson during the Sephora sale, as I was 100% it will be perfect for me from the swatches I saw online and on YT. I was lucky enough to be able to order the mini set “Colour Blitz” before the sale, and to my great surprise Elson is a bit too dark on me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still gorgeous as is the orange red Obsessed!, but Full Panic takes a completely different life on my lips (on me, it’s a very wearable toned-down fuchsia). Love it! Such a pity that there are no Pat McGrath beauty products on display in the Sephora stores in Montreal and around.

Spoiler alert (faves for the upcoming month): I love the new YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick. I checked it in store during the sale and I fell in love with three shades: two gorgeous reds (1 and 21, 21 being a bit darker than 1) and the one I purchased, no. 12 – Nu Incongru (described as rosey nude). The last one is perfect for every day wear, a shade in the range of a medium rose with peachy tones, but not that greyish nude/rosey taupe. I’m so tempted by no. 1, the only thing holding me back being the fact that I already have a few reds which I don’t wear often. The bullet is in a square form and it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but personally I love the formula (matte but comfortable, very good staying power, at least for the shade 12), and I actually find the angled tip practical, as I can easily line the lips without needing a lip liner.

Most used face/cheek product this month? MAC x Robert Lee Morison Blush in Linda, Hourglass Mood Exposure Blush.

Most used eye product this month? The above mentioned eye palettes (ABH + PMG) + I rediscovered the Tarte Miracles of the Amazon Eye & Cheek Palette (I used mostly the plummy shades). As eyeliners, Dior Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner in Matte Brown and Pearly Bronze and MJ Highliners in Brown(ie) and Earth(quake).

Most used face/cheek product this month? wet n wild blush! Messing around with placement, I discovered placing it almost like highlighter it more flattering than ‘apples of the cheek’ placement.

Favorite product this month? Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo. Wow, this stuff is great. I never thought I would love a dry shampoo more than my trusty yet affordable Batiste, but the Moroccanoil is magic. I bought 2 more during the Sephora sale as I’m scared to run out! Makeup-wise I was pleasantly surprised by the new Makeup Revolution Fast Base Concealer. It’s medium coverage and so easy to apply. Blends out well, too! I can’t complain about the price either.

Most used face/cheek product this month? Besides the Makeup Revolution Fast Base Concealer, I’ve really been enjoying Black Moon Cosmetics Moonlighter in Squid. Glowy and buildable.

Most used eye product this month? Still enamored with the Norvina palette.
