Happy Wednesday! Here's this week's survey, which you can copy and paste and share as a comment.
- Your skin tone/coloring:
- Best brand for highlighters?
- Worst brand for blush?
- Best brand for blush?
P.S. — Thanks to Leigh for this week’s survey idea!
I’m fair to light with neutral undertones.
I love Anastasia and Becca highlighters.
I hated Rimmel’s Match Perfection blush, it had no pigmentation at all.
I love cream blushes since my cheeks are dry, and just managed to get the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea cream blush palette before it sold out! Loving it!
1 – usually a light ivory or a fair. Not like, special snowflake uber pale. I’ve got lots of red in my cheeks as well.
2- Honestly, I was using the UD Afterglows but haven’t touched mine since the KvD alchemist palette came out. I tend to do less traditional looks, so that palette fits the bill most of the time. Plus, it seems made for lighter shades without blinding. I know people have issues with it, though.
3- Benefit. Any blush I’ve tried by them doesn’t show unless I build, and when I build it goes from no show to OHMYGOSHBROADWAYMARQUEEBRIGHT with no in between.
4-UD’s Afterglows are still my go-to, but I’m seriously considering the MUFE blushes.
Your skin tone/coloring: LIght Olive NC20
Best brand for highlighters? Becca or Hourglass
Worst brand for blush? Tarte – amazonian clay is a hateful formula for me
Best brand for blush? Surratt. I would also choose Tom Ford, but I far prefer the d’cd formula Estee Lauder is very nice too
Oh… I forgot about Tartes blushes. I would have to agree they are pretty bad. The only one I’ve liked has been the one in the Sephora birthday gift.
They have a nice colour range, but too many minuses: they invariably become super hard in pan, my skin regardless of base seems to get a max of 3 to 4 hours of wear.
Your skin tone/coloring: light and warm
Best brand for highlighters? MAC
Worst brand for blush? Tarte (see below)
Best brand for blush? Tarte – they can do some fabulous blushes, and I think their permanent line of Amazonian Clay blushes is really worth exploring. BUT, I’ve noticed with most of my singles that the surface hardens quickly and color becomes harder and harder to pick up. I also strongly dislike the fact that their limited edition blush kits and palettes are made in China when their permanent formula is made in the USA. Plus, those palettes are not well thought out, with too many shades that look extremely similar once blended on the cheeks.
I completely agree! I love a new Tarte blush but three months in… just not the same
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/light with neutral undertones.
Best brand for highlighters? Becca!
Worst brand for blush? Sephora! I will admit that I have only tried their cheek tint though (and it was TERRIBLE).
Best brand for blush? I love Urban Decay’s formula!
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair, with cool undertones, but warmer features.
Best brand for highlighters? I love most of my Anastasia glow kits & the Cover Fx liquid highlighters.
Worst brand for blush? Hmm, not sure I have tried enough to say which formula I dislike. I think Benefit’s packaging for their blushes is the worst.
Best brand for blush? I have been really enjoying my Marc Jacobs blush lately…
Your skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
Best brand for highlighters? Becca and Dior, with a tip of the hat to UD…all 3 make phenomenal highlighters
Worst brand for blush? A toss up between Physician’s Formula and Bare Minerals (I was shocked by how bad the “Ready” blush I got in a gift bag was – just dreadful)
Best brand for blush? Right now, I’d say Dior because of my love affair with Rosy Glow but I really like MAC’s blushes (the Extra Dimension ones and the Sheertone Shimmer finishes are favourites) and a few of Tarte’s blushes from their regular line (not some of the real duds they’ve released lately for the Holidays)
Your skin tone/coloring: Light neutral, MAC NC20
Best brand for highlighters: The one I like the best of the few I’ve used is Laura Mercier’s Baked Highlighter. I don’t have much highlighter experience.
Worst brand for blush: I tried one by Rimmel a long time ago that didn’t show up very well.
Best brand for blush: I loved NARS for many years, but stopped using it because of the price. Right now I’m loving the Tarte Amazonian Clay blush I got as a birthday gift from Sephora. It goes on easily and stays perfect all day.
I started using your tip of blush first, then setting powder – and voila, it works really well. My blush stayed on for longer. Thank you!
Actually, that’s how I always used to do it until just recently. The tip I just learned was to put setting powder on after foundation, then apply powder blush on top of the setting powder.
That order is working so much better for me. The blush blends more smoothly on top of setting powder than on top of foundation and I have better control of how much blush to use. And it stays on perfectly all day.
~nw 15-20. Prob Red, rather than pink undertones…but virtually all base products look wrong and yellow. Best highlighter: don’t always do it. But ABH Aurora would be it. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing in spades. Ironically, think I would vote abh for worst blush, as well, were I not a T reader, who knows better than to purchase them. Best blush: by the #s would have to be Nars, but remember, I’m working on 25 years of Nars Blushho. Also adore (now old formula) mufe AS. Never bit on old TF.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light Neutral
Best brand for highlighters? Dior, Cle de Peau, MAC
Worst brand for blush? Most drugstore brands don’t do blush right.
Best brand for blush? Marc Jacobs, Natasha Denona, Dior
Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones
Best brand for highlighters? Becca, the Balm
Worst brand for blush? Revlon
Best brand for blush? HE – Chanel, Low cost – my favourite is Natio Blush/highlighter mosaic in Sunkissed. The brand also has one in Rosy Glow – pinky shades.
Skin tone: Fair, MAC NW10 in winter, NW13 in summer. Black hair and almost black eyes.
Best highlighter brand: I really like MAC Extra Dimension, Double Gleam in particular. But Lorac has very nice highlighters too. My favorite from their line is Starlight.
Best blush brand: That would have to be Clinique Cheek Pops. I love several, but my favorite is Heather Pop.
Worst blush brand: I found this question rather hard to answer. For the most part I’ve had good luck with blush, high end and drugstore. If I had to choose I’d say drugstore in general is worse, but that’s really not too fair. Essence and Catrice have some very nice economical blush options. I’ve heard good things about WnW blush too, though I’ve never tried them.
Agree 100%. I am a blush hoarder. I have lots of good blush from the drugstote: Essence, Jordana, Makeup Revolution, Cover Girl, Revlon, Wet N Wild and they are right up there with my NARS, Hourglass, MAC, Tom Ford etc. I don’t really have any brand where I’m like that truly sucks and if people say drugstore doesn’t do blush right, then I’m pretty sure you haven’t tried many lol
Try Pearlescent Pink from WetnWild I have a few shades and they don’t go dry like an Elf one I had. I find them awesome, always apply smoothly and beautiful colors. The most crazy one with glitter is Fantastic (Barbie?) Pink which I also have but is really pretty for fun some days.
Skintone / coloring : light, MAC NC 20, med brown hair and eyes
Best brand for highlighters : All I know is I like highlighters from NYX, MAC and Wet n Wild
Best brand for blush: MAC, Clinique, Hourglass, Tarte
Worst brand for blush : I’m not sure. I like blush from most brands
Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes. Skin type is oily.
Best brand for highlighters? Anastasia; Looxi Beauty
Worst brand for blush? Rimmel; Revlon
Best brand for blush? Tarte; Urban Decay; theBalm
Your skin tone/coloring: MAC C7, DEEP TAN/GOLDEN UNDERTONES
Best brand for highlighters? BECCA
Worst brand for blush? TARTE – THOSE 12 HOUR BLUSHES ARE CRIMINAL
Best brand for blush? MAKE UP FOR EVER
Your skin tone/coloring: fair/warm-toned (elf Flawless Finish Foundation in Natural/Porcelain)
Best brand for highlighters? Wet n Wild
Worst brand for blush? Clinique (at least the ones that come in the bonus bags are meh)
Best brand for blush? Tarte
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair, cool
Best brand for highlighters? Dior, Becca
Worst brand for blush? Hourglass (not enough pigment for me, just blah)

Skin tone: Fair with cool undertones.
Best highlight: Becca
Worst blush: With the exception of Galifornia, Benefit.
Best blush: Marc Jacobs, Ciate and Chanel.

Best brand for highlighters? So many! I love my highlighters from Bitter Lace Beauty, Looxi, Aromaleigh and Notoriously Morbid. Also, I don’t know about these brands’ other highlighters but I really like the Elf highlighter palette, NYX strobe of genius and Tom Ford Moodlight.
Worst brand for blush? I feel like Lancome, Estee Lauder and Dior are all mixed bags in my experience.
Best brand for blush? Rodial, even though they only have two shades! I also really like my blushes from Laura Geller, My Pretty Zombie, Marc Jacobs, Clinique, Hello Waffle, Tarte.
Fair/light with cool/pink-to-neutral undertones
Best brand for highlighters: Hands down, Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters. However, honorable mention goes to the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter Liquids.
Worst brand for blush: I was not a huge fan of Mac powder blushes when I used them, and overall I really don’t favor powder blushes anyway.
Best brand for blush: I’ve been using the Glossier Cloud Paints almost exclusively for the last 4 months, but for more color variety I like the Colourpop Super Shock Cheeks and Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes.
I also want to mention that Tarte goes under “worst blushes” too. When they do it right it’s great, but when they’re bad I either can’t get any pigment on my face or I end up with clown cheeks. Plus their LE’s have been so bad recently.
Skintone: MAC NC23. Light skin with prominent warm yellow undertones. Warm dark brown hair, and reddish brown hazel eyes!
Best brand for highlighters: my current favorite highlight is a “bronzer” from Physicians formula. Which I feel really conflicted about loving, and reccomending anything Physicians formula.
Worst brand for blush: maybelline comes to mind!
Best brand for blush: Clinique or NARS are my favorite formulas!
Your skin tone/coloring: NC 15 w/some redness
Best brand for highlighters? Hourglass or Becca
Worst brand for blush? I’ve been using the same brands for a while so hard to remember, but I think my last blush declutter included a lot of the Benefit ones.
Best brand for blush? Depending on finish, either Hourglass, NARS or Tarte (though I basically only use Exposed from Tarte at this point). For liquid or cream blush I’ve really been enjoying the Glossier Cloud Paints and NARS liquid blushes, and the Charlotte Tilbury Norman Parkinson cream one
Your skin tone/coloring: Caramelish/MAC NC50.
Best brand for highlighters? MAC, ColourPop and Becca.
Worst brand for blush? Tarte. Terribly disappointing after all the hype. To think I had it shipped to Lagos from the US. Urgh.
Best brand for blush? These days I’m really into MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish Blush. I’d like to buy more NARS blushes, but they’re not readily available in my part of the world.
Your skin tone/coloring: NW45-47
Best brand for highlighters? Becca & Mac
Worst brand for blush? I don’t like Bourjois, and Rimmel cream blush was meh
Best brand for blush? Mac, Nars, Illamasqua, Sleek, Milani

Worst brand for blush?

— This brand was so popular some years ago in the YT makeup community (and deservedly so). Their blushes are still amazing; some of the best I’ve used.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light with neutral undertones
Best brand for highlighters? Nars – especially the newer formula
Worst brand for blush? Tarte – Amazonian Clay Blushes are just a joke for me.
Best brand for blush? Nars
