Must-have skincare product in winter? Cleansing oils. Non-drying compared to foaming cleansers

Best fragrance for the winter? I was really into YSL Black Opium. I like the warm, cozy scents for winter (in contrast to the fresh and clean scents I’m usually into)

Best night time lip balm? I just finished up my sample of the Bite Agave Lip Mask and it was nice. Woke up with soft lips, but idk if I would splurge on the full size

Must-have skincare product in winter? It’s no longer available anywhere but I still have 2 large and only partly used tubs of Ombra Melkfet cream. It’s a waterless cream that contains calendula and has a texture sort of like Vaseline. In very cold temps and/or if you’re outside skiing, hiking, shovelling snow in a blizzard, etc., water in most moisturizers can freeze and damage your skin; the Ombra cream prevents this and also makes a good, protective layer. I’ve since found another brand at my local German home store – Elkos, I think – but it has quite a vile smell. In addition, facial oils (almost any), Nivea cream, Jose Maran’s thick Intensive Creamy Oil (especially good when my nose is chapped from a cold) and Astral Cream. For body – LRP Lipikar and Lise Watier, Aven or L’Occitane spray body oils. We Janie Canucks usually have a pretty big arsenal of winter skin care products.
Best fragrance for the winter? By the Fireplace (Maison Margiela), Fresh Cannabis Rose and Clinique Aromatics Elixir (I only wear that last one in winter)
Best night time lip balm? first a scrub with Fresh’s lip scrub and then either the BITE Beauty one or Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. My lips have been really bad the last few days but that scrub last night followed by the Lip Sleeping Mask and my lips are smooth and flake-free today.

Nicole D Avatar

Mariella, you might give a try to Weleda Calendula Intensive Skin Recovery cream or to REN Vita Mineral Emollient Rescue Cream when you finish your Ombra Melkfet. Both have very good, clean ingredients and they are excellent for protecting the skin in the freezing temperatures.

Skin tone/coloring: Very fair, neutral-leaning-warm undertones

Must-have skincare product in the winter: Lately, it’s been the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. I’m currently trying out about 10 different moisturizers because my skin gets horribly dry in this upstate NY winter weather, and the FAB moisturizer is the only one so far that actually keeps my skin feeling plump and healthy all day.

Best fragrance for the winter: I have a couple perfumes that I would call my “signature scents,” and my winter signature is definitely Marc Jacobs Decadence. To me, it’s the fragrance equivalent of pulling on a cashmere sweater.

Best nighttime lip balm: I’ve been alternating between the Bite Agave Lip Mask and the Kiehl’s Buttermask.

Your skin tone/coloring: Light medium, yellow undertones. Dark brown hair & eyes.

Must-have skincare product in winter? Two really excellent lip balms to layer, first a super moisturising product, then a wax based occlusive one for protection – cracked lips are no joke.

Best fragrance for the winter? Something rich and warmly exotic – I like Tocca Maya and Floral Street Black Lotus. I love pulling on a merino woollen jumper that smells like sultry summer nights when it’s chilly!

Best night time lip balm? Bite Agave lip mask or the new Colourpop lippie balms are pretty excellent too.

Must-have skincare product in winter? Nu Skin Epoch Sole Solution Foot Treatment

Best fragrance for the winter? Tom Ford Black Orchid; YSL Black Opium; Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black and Nirvana Bourbon

Best night time lip balm? IDK. I wear whatever random balm I’m working on during the day. No waxy balms such as Chapstick.

Kat Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair neutral.
Must-have skincare product in winter? Too Cool for School Egg Cream Mask-Hydration and Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Mask.
Best fragrance for the winter? I’ve really been enjoying samples of Tom Ford Oud Wood and Noir Extreme, and I’ve been using my Nirvana Bourbon lately.
Best night time lip balm? Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.

Ana Maria Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Light-Medium with yellow warm undertone

Must-have skincare product in winter? I don’t actually change my skincare routine in winter (the air in the California Bay Area is dry all year round). If I’m feeling extra dry I’ll just apply more layers of hyaluronic acid booster at night (I actually really enjoyed the ELF Hydrating Water Essence, but now I use Paula’s Choice booster).

Best fragrance for the winter? I personally pair fragrance with my mood and outfit, I don’t take seasons into consideration. From the fragrances that are considered best for winter, I really like Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium… but then again, I would wear this in the dead of summer as well. But my most worn fragrance this winter was Pinrose Secret Genius.

Best night time lip balm? If it wasn’t in a pot, it would be Paula’s Choice Lip & bBody Treatment Balm. But since I hate dipping fingers in pot for skincare and make-up application, Clinique Pep-Start Pout Perfecting Balm (the clear one) is almost as amazing; the `but` for this is the plastic pink packaging (I can’t have it all).

Skin tone: Below my name.

Must have winter product: Face oils. I am currently using Noni but have used several others. So far haven’t found one that I like so much I want to repurchase but all of the ones I have tried have done the job.

Favorite winter scent: Tainted Love 69. I love a good tobacco or smoke scent in the winter.

Lip Balm: Nuxe Reve de Miel. I have the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask and prior to my trip I had tried it and it was okay but I still preferred my Nuxe one. I was running low on the Nuxe one so took the Laneige on my 5 week trip. I used it out of necessity and it isn’t a bad treatment but I prefer the Nuxe and found it in Europe so returned to using it for the remainder of the trip. I carry it in my purse all of the time and also have the Jack Black balm in my purse.
I know some people have issues with the texture of the Nuxe as it can get grainy towards the end of the pot but that doesn’t really bother me as I don’t feel it on my lips after a minute or two. I think the warmth of my lips melts the little grains.

Christine, On the daily question there use to be a link below to suggest questions and I don’t see it there now. Wanted to suggest a question. “What makeup and skin products are in your purse right now. Specific names. Thank you.

Must-have skincare product in winter? A rich nighttime moisturizer because my skin tends to be a touch drier in the winter.

Best fragrance for the winter? Maison Margiela By The Fireplace

Best night time lip balm? Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask or Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask

Lesley Avatar

Skin tone/coloring: light medium neutral, blue eyes, chocolate brown hair with magenta highlights

Must have winter skin care product: Face oil for occlusive layer over my regular moisturizer, a humidifier, and Biafine, a French cream that miraculously heals dry patches.

Best fragrance for the winter: I don’t wear fragrance

Best nighttime lip balm: I seem to have a bottomless tube of Clarins Hydra Esential Replenishing Lip Balm so I am using that at night and it has been enough so far. When it’s gone I will be using Bite Agave Lip Mask.

Your skin tone/coloring: Light neutral skin tone, green eyes, salt & pepper hair

Must-have skincare product in winter? Since it never gets super cold where I live, my skincare routine stays the same all year long. Nothing special for winter.

Best fragrance for the winter? Though we rarely get really cold weather, I have some fragrances that I don’t like to wear in the hot summer months, such as Nirvana Black and Armani Si, which I’m wearing right now.

Best night time lip balm? Jack Black is my current go-to.

Nancy T Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Next to my name! (blue-green eyes)

Must-have skincare product in winter? Moisturizer! For my face and for my body, too.

Best fragrance for the winter? Tom Ford Black Orchid for something intense or formal, YSL Black Opium Nuit Blanche for everyday use, and *still*, Christian LaCroix for Avon Absynthe for when I’m feeling a mysterious, “leave me alone” type of vibe!

Best night time lip balm? Most nights, I slather on a nice coat of Laneige Lip Mask. Generally, this one usually does the job wonderfully….as long as my lips aren’t too dehydrated or chapped. If so, then I use Jack Black Lip Balm for healing and re-hydration.

Your skin tone/coloring: fair, warm, NC-10ish; normal-to-slightly dry in winter.

Best night time lip balm? Jack Black.

Must-have skincare product in winter? Moisturizer. I don’t tend to need it in the summer. Just something w SPF for day. But in the winter, I need it more and morning and night

Best fragrance for the winter? I’m loving Replica By The Fireplace, MAC Velvet Teddy, Viva La Juicy and Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black. I like to smell like my Daddy’s pipe lol. Prefer warm and musky scents:)

Best night time lip balm? I’m using lip balms up so I don’t have one I prefer. But I wear a lip mask over whatever I’m wearing. I’m loving my Bite Agave Lip Mask in Champagne! !

Deborah S. Avatar

I am with you on smelling like your Daddy’s pipe. I use to work with a surgeon who always arrived at the hospital smelling wonderful. Really smokey with hints of chocolate and so one day I asked him what cologne he used and he told me he didn’t and that the scent was his chocolate pipe tobacco. If someone could find that scent and bottle it I would be all over it!!

Must-have skincare product in winter? Sleeping mask. I have dry skin & they’re extra dry when it’s cold. I’m using the Glow Recipe Avocado Sleeping Mask.

Best fragrance for the winter? Guerlain Gourmand Coquin. Smells like hot chocolate to me and I only use it in the winter because of that.

Best night time lip balm? Not really a lip balm but the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is so amazing. Even if my lips are dry/chapped/sometimes bleeding, I use this at night and the next morning my lips are smooth.

Lt-med red u/t. Winter skin: i’m oily, dehydrated. Biggest change is after bath: always a body oil, then body butter. Usually Shea moisture. Facially: at night, layer either Paula or Cosrx ceramide cream over differin. AMs, cannot use anything more rich than an essence, or I break out. So, it’s 5-6 watery, usually KB/AB products, then my DIY essence w/double HA, Matrixyl, Argiriline, snail. (Insert RIP Brandon T.) Then alternate a Cosrx essences, either the snail or the galactomyces. Winter frag: Commodity Book, Marilyn Miglin Pheromone, or go big with the oldies: Mitsouko or L’Heure Bleue. Or anything Vetiver. Basically, any non-sea, non-citrus: those are summer. Lip balm: Bite barely to never came out of the tube; should have returned it. Jack Black went out the window, when I got allergic to chem sunscreens. Tried Mamonde: no. Repurposed it for under dry LLs by day. So it’s Laneige, Paula Lip and Body, or both, layered.

Must-have skincare product in winter? It’s freezing here in Montreal for the past two weeks and we had in the past couple of days -33C/-34C during the day. Best day creams that act like a shield/protector during the day and react very well with/under makeup: my trusted Weleda Calendula Intensive Skin Recovery and a recent discovery, REN Vita Mineral Emollient Rescue Cream. Both are thick, so I have to use just around a pea size, warm it between my fingers and then apply it on the face and gently massage until I feel the oils get into the skin. I usually give it 10 additional minutes to fully absorb, before applying the primer.
Night time: Almost every night I use PC 2% BHA lotion followed by either her Resist Intensive Repair Cream or Skin Recovery Replenishing Moisturizer.

Best fragrance for winter? Atelier Cologne – Vanille Insensée, Guerlain – Mon Guerlain, Maison Margiela – By the Fireplace, Juliette Has a Gun – Not a Perfume.

Best night time lip balm? Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask for the winter.

Light-med w yellow undertones

Skincare: la roche posay hydraphase intense moisturizing lotion. Works better than the Kiehl’s balm I’ve been trying, it’s plumps my skin and spreads really nicely.

Fragrance: I always enjoy Joe Malone blackberry and bay.

Lip: lanolips 101 ointment. I put on a thicker layer than usual if I really need it and since it’s so thick it really stays in through the night. I’ll need to wipe it off in the morning but so far it’s the best night time balm I’ve tried.

Must-have skincare product in winter? Origins High-potency Night-a-mins
Best fragrance for the winter? Gucci Guilty
Best night time lip balm? Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask its seriously the best lip mask I’ve found. The Bite one is good but very thick. My lips tend to feel more moisturized and nourished with the Laneige one.

Must-have skincare product in winter? I use a combination of Sunday Riley oils, Belif Moisturizing Bomb, and my Lotion P50, which helps keep my skin balanced all year round.

Best fragrance for the winter? I only use one fragrance – Bulgari Omnia Crystalline. It’s a very light, fresh floral that doesn’t give me a headache. If anyone can suggest another perfume I may like that is similar to this one please let me know! I love light florals but I am also very sensitive to fragrances.

Best night time lip balm? Carmex for me, day or night.
