Your skin tone/coloring: Light/Fair with neutral undertones. I have sensitive/dry skin as well.
Best all-around face mask? Lush’s Oatifix Fresh Face Mask! It makes my skin feel so nice.
Best sheet face mask? I’ve only really used Tony Moly’s sheet masks, so out of those the Milk one was my favorite.
Most luxurious face mask? Oh I’ve never really done any “nice” facemasks before. I tried GlamGlow’s ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment and that made my skin feel soft (but it made my face burn a little bit, which I didn’t care for).

Best all-around face mask?
Biologique Recherche (BR) Masque Vivant. It is claimed that “if you use this twice a week, you will never age.” 🙂 OK, a stretch, but there is something to that. This is amazing. Although a caveat… The BR line is NOT for someone who wants a floral-y spa experience in skin care. This is workhorse stuff that is about efficacy. Most of it smells, um, unusual. This is very yeasty and almost medicinal, so you have to know that going in with this product and a lot of the line. Worth it.

Best sheet face mask?
Not sure what the “best” is as we are all so different, but I do like the Dr. Jart+ Ceramidinâ„¢ Skin-Friendly Nanoskin Sheet Mask the best of all I have tried.

Most luxurious face mask?
Hands down for me, Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask. I got a big tube of it as a GWP (I was suprised as the size of it), and it is wonderful. I sleep in it. I do a long massage of it into my skin, which feels heavenly, and in the morning it’s glorious. I have to say, the Sephora sleeping mask (which they are discontinuing) works very well too. That’s a nice, luxurious feel too.

I’ve heard people rave about the Sisley mask. It’s so expensive, I haven’t tried it. I’ve been using Decleor’s Hydra Floral mask for years and use it the same way you do Sisley’s. A little goes a long way, so there’s a lot of applications in the full size product, that’s for sure. I’ve often wondered if the sheet masks wouldn’t be more expensive in the long run, but without the benefit of letting them work overnight.

Hi Anne!

I don’t think I will go into the realm of purchasing the Sisley mask. It’s very $$$$ as you say. I have nearly a full-size sample — crazy sized GWP. I dated it to see how long it lasts me. Maybe cost per use will be palatable? I dunno. It’s wonderful stuff, so I’ll see.

I have come to the conclusion that sheet masks aren’t my thing. I think they’re pricey, and while I like the Dr. Jart one, it’s not like I go running back to the store for it. This post made me figure out that I’d rather go with the sleeping cream masks at this point (and age). 🙂

Check out the Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant. Read up on it and see what you think. Together with the P50 1970 — whoa, effective.

My skin is dry and sensitive, so I have to be really, really careful what I use. I looked at Makeup Alley for the Biologique and it seems to be very effective, especially for normal, combination or acne prone skin. Others complain it’s too irritating, I’d say the Decleor works well for dry to combination skin, but may be overkill for oilier skin and not very ineffective for acne prone skin. Decleor contains chamomile so it really calms and hydrates my skin on nights I exfoliate. I’ve been using it for so long, I feel like I’d be lost without it.

Skin tone: pale warm/NC15
Best all around face mask: Paula’s Choice Hydrating Treatment Mask
Best Sheet Face Mask: I don’t use sheet masks
Most Luxurious Face Mask: Juvena Comforting Cream Mask or Estee Lauder Triple Crème Skin Rehydrator (just wish it was available still in Canada or US)

Fran Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: between fair and light; cool undertones and warm features. Combo normal/oily skin, sensitive and with rosacea.

Best all-around face mask? I’m not really into face masks. Other than moisturizing masks, I don’t think they’re on your face long enough to do much good. I have tried First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask, and it is moisturizing and doesn’t irritate my skin.

Best sheet face mask? I don’t use them.

Most luxurious face mask? I use Paula’s Choice Radiance Renewal Mask, but it’s really a night cream, not a mask.

Mariella Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
Best all-around face mask? I really like the Fresh Yogurt Sleeping mask
Best sheet face mask? I’ve only got one – it’s from Sephora and I’ve still not used it!
Most luxurious face mask? Maybe the Borghese Fango mask but I don’t really think of it as “luxurious” – it’s more just really nice and quite effective

Your skin tone/coloring: Light
Best all-around face mask? I just really love GlamGlow’s face mask. Haven’t had much luck with other ones.
Best sheet face mask? Never tried any.
Most luxurious face mask? Again, GlamGlow is probably the most luxurious one I’ve had.

Rachel R. Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones. Skin type: Usually oily, sometimes combo with oily T-zone. Issues: oil control, aging/perimenopausal, sensitive, cystic hormonal acne.

Best all-around face mask? For me, it’s Nu Skin Epoch Glacial Marine Mud mask.

Best sheet face mask? I don’t use them often enough to know.

Most luxurious face mask? No idea. The Glacial Marine Mud mask leaves my skin feeling the nicest.

Lea Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/cool with normal skin

Best all-around face mask? My favorite is the Chantecaille Detox Clay Mask; it clears your skin out but still adds moisture, so you’re not super tight afterwards

Best sheet face mask? I’m partial to the Cle de Peau and SK-II masks; they can be pricey, but I do get a lot as either GWP or just extra thanks from my SA. I like the SK-II because they’re in two pieces and that fits my smaller face better than the single piece sheets.

Most luxurious face mask? La Mer Intensive Revitalizing Mask and any of the Chantecaille masks. Totally worth the price tag to me.

I think that Tony Moly makes great beginner friendly masks. But Leaders and Mediheal are my favorite brands. They can be purchased at the Ulta or MemeBox website.

Your skin tone/coloring: MAC NC20.
Skin type: Normal-dry-sensitive-mature, with tendencies to rosacea and cystic acne.
Best all-around face mask? Lush Oatifix, Mary Kay formula 1,

Best sheet face mask? Never used them.
Most luxurious face mask? My faves are all discontinued.

Anne Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: NC15 w/some redness (also dry and very sensitive for the purpose of the next questions)

Best all-around face mask? PTR Pumpkin Enzyme Mask. It’s like a car wash for your face. Also the only chemical exfoliant I can use that doesn’t ruin my skin.

Best sheet face mask? I cannot stand sheet masks so don’t have a favorite

Most luxurious face mask? For me right now, the Farmacy Honey Potion one. It feels so amazing on my skin and makes it ridiculously soft.

ShariP Avatar

Skin tone/coloring: Porcelain NW10. Normal with periodic dry patches in winter. Black hair and eyes.
Best all round mask: Glamglow. I’ve tried several, but probably like the one in black the best. I’ve just picked up several samples of sleeping masks to try, but I haven’t gotten to try them yet.
Best sheet mask: I’ve only tried one that came in my Ipsy bag and I wasn’t overly impressed. However, since I’m trying to be better to my skin I just purchased several Tony Moly masks for anti-aging, toning, brightening, and moisturizing. Maybe I’ll have an answer to this question next time.
Most luxurious mask: Would have to be one of the Glamglow masks which I really do love.

Fair with pink undertones / my skin is very sensitive and hates almost everything.

Le Metier de Beaute Chem Peel followed by the Glow Mask. My skin is completely rejuvenated and radiant. This line’s skincare is fantastic.

SK-ll sheet mask is amazing! And you can get 2-3 uses out of each expensive mask. Leaves my skin feeling super soft and hydrated. Looking stupid for 20 minutes is so worth it.

Guerlain Orchidee Mask. Scented products, but my skin loves this entire line. For me, it’s true what they say about the Guerlain Glow. My skin is super soft and I love the scent so much, I bought the Orchidee candle! I much prefer this mask over Sisley’s Black Rose mask.

Your skin tone/coloring: light and warm
Best all-around face mask? Hard to choose! I would say the Institut Esthederm Intensif Hyaluronic mask.
Best sheet face mask? I really like When 10PM mask, it makes my face look very hydrated and plumped
Most luxurious face mask? The Cinq Mondes Kaolin and Herbs mask is really wonderful – one of the only clay masks that doesn’t dry out my face – but it’s a bit pricey!

Best all around: Fresh rose mask. It tightens and tones and leaves my skin really refreshed feeling.

Best sheet: a Korean bean I came across during a recent trip there, atopalm sheet mask, the hydrating one. The brand is geared towards more compromised/ sensitive skins and I wish they were more easily accessible.

Best luxurious: tony moly sheet mask, the one with snail essence. I know sounds gross but I never saw such instant results and was always skeptical about such claims. But omg my complexion was immediately refreshed and little lines were smoothed out. Overall a plumping and pre event mask I would say.

Your skin tone/coloring: Deep Dark / NW50
Best all-around face mask? Sephora Collection Purifying & Mattifying Mud Mask
Best sheet face mask? Anything from Leaders. Especially their 7 Wonders collection.
Most luxurious face mask? Peter Thomas Roth Gold Mask

My overall recommendation across all categories is the Primary Raw DoYou 2 Step Milk Peeling Kit. It is a sheet mask, and it was a little difficult to manage, but the results are astounding. It comes with a chemical exfoliant and a super moisturizing sheet mask. I did this before an event and my makeup never applied so flawlessly. I have acne scars along with some serious texture, and this mask smoothed out my face and even minimized my pores. I had oily skin at the time, and now I have normal/dry skin, so I can confidently say that this works for all skin types, but maybe those with sensitive skin might want to be cautious. This is the best overall mask, best sheet mask, and most luxurious mask I have ever tried and will be repurchasing over and over again.
